The Only One - {IwaOi}

Kunimi was the only one who seemed to have any idea about the captain and the ace of Aobo Josai. Not even Makki and Mattsun seemed aware of it and it was maddening.

He first noticed it at the very start of practice one day, right after school, while the team was changing into their sports uniform. Kunimi had always been rather self-conscious and had a habit of looking around when getting changed in front of people. Most of the team was used to it by now and no one else seemed to be as uneasy as he was, so there was never a problem with it before. Oikawa was a little bit late, which was pretty usual, and nothing was out of the ordinary.

But today, Kunimi noticed something very odd on Iwaizumi's' back. At first, it seemed like a rash, but when he glanced again, he saw they were scratch marks. Not just any scratch marks. You wouldn't get these from a pet, if anything. He knew what they were, mostly thanks to one incident in middle school, involving upperclassmen sneaking he, Kindaichi and Kageyama into the cinema to movie-hop and accidentally ended up watching a sex film, which is a whole other story. Naturally, in respect for his upperclassman, Kunimi looked away, feeling his face heat up in embarrassment.

Then Oikawa entered, with loud apologies and interrupting everyone's' peace and quiet. Kunimi rolled his eyes and continued changing. He started to glance around once more, keeping his eyes deliberately away from Iwaizumi and nearly swore very loudly when his sight brushed past his captain. Oikawa had just started changing and Kunimi had the misfortune to notice small marks around his waist and a little under his collar line. Hickeys.

Kunimi hid his face in his school blazer, trying not to jump to conclusions but the idea that his captain and his vice-captain might be doing... 'it' was awkward.

"Hey, Kunimi?" Kindaichi nudged him politely, making him jump. "Are you okay?"

"Uh, yeah, yeah, I'm fine."

Kindaichi smiled at him. "Alright. Just remember, we're having a chill practice today, no need to stress out."

Kunimi nodded and glanced back at Oikawa and Iwaizumi. It was a coincidence, definitely. Nothing was going on.

Something was going on.

Practise had just finished and the team was meandering back into the training room when Oikawa ran over to Iwaizumi, holding Coach's' clipboard.

"Iwa-chan!" He whined loudly, practically making the team hurry out of the gym, " Come look at this schedule with me, real quick!"

"Honestly, Trashy-kawa, can't you do captain stuff on your own for once," Iwaizumi groaned loudly, but approached Oikawa and looked down at the clipboard.

They talked together about the schedule, with the team hurrying out before the inevitable bickering, and Kunimi glanced over his shoulder briefly to see Iwaizumi cupping the setters' face and Oikawa lifting up the clipboard to hide them very obviously kissing. Kunimi stared, alarmed, before jolting back to life when Kindaichi called his name from inside the changing room.

Hurriedly, Kunimi hopped away from the gym. This was going to be interesting.

It was undeniable that Tooru Oikawa and Hajime Iwaizumi were dating to Kunimi. The most furious thing was that nobody seemed to notice. Sure, Oikawa had always been clingy and whiny whenever Iwaizumi was being involved but now it seemed to be occurring more and more, which was something Kunimi was surprised at. Who knew Oikawa could be whinier than he already was?

The first time he tried to bring it up was before class. He had stolen Iwaizumi's' timetable yesterday to know which room he'd be in before waiting awkwardly, knowing full well about the odd looks people gave him. A first-year outside of a third-year classroom was a rather weird sight.

Iwaizumi soon rounded the corridor with a bunch of guys, all looking like the sporty type but none seemed familiar to Kunimi.

The first-year went almost unnoticed as Iwaizumi talked to his friends, but Kunimi cleared his throat nervously and said, "Iwaizumi-san! I-I need to ask you something!"

Iwaizumi seemed surprised to see Kunimi but he nodded at his kouhai. "Uh, sure, Kunimi. You guys go in without me, I'll be right there." His friends all nodded and walked into the class. Iwaizumi leaned against the wall, with a curious but friendly expression on his face. "What's the matter?"

Kunimi swallowed, trying to think of the right way to phrase his question. "I was, um... I think..."

"If you're telling me you wanna quit volleyball, you don't have to worry," Iwaizumi interrupted. "I'm not gonna judge."

"No, I'm not planning on quitting the club," Kunimi replied. "It's a little more, well, personal than that."

"I'm sure Kindaichi would love to go out with you," Said his senpai sagely. "He's head over heels for you already, don't worry."

Kunimi's' face went red. "I-I'm not planning to ask out Kindaichi!" He stammered. "It's just..." He hesitated, before deciding that the best way to ask was to blindly blurt it out tactlessly. That seemed to work all the time. "You and Oikawa-san! You're dating, aren't you?"

Iwaizumi stared, for what seemed like ages. "I see what you mean by personal."

"Well?" Kunimi pressed. "You are, aren't you?"

"Wh-Where did you get this idea from?" Iwaizumi asked. Although his face was calm, his ears had gone red and his smile seemed more awkward than before.

Kunimi thought back through all he had seen. "Well, it started about a month ago. We were all changing and, you know, I kinda, well- I'm an awkward changer, so-"

"I know," Iwaizumi assured. "Keep going."

"Well, I saw that you had, um, scratches on your back and then Oikawa came in and, uh, he had hickeys," Kunimi risked a glance at his upperclassman to see Iwaizumi slowly turning red. "Th-Then, after practice, Oikawa went over to you and you sort of, like, held his face, and he hid you two behind coach's' clipboard, like you were kissing. And he's been more clingy than usual and you've seemed, uh, nicer to him for a while too."

Iwaizumi was beet red and he groaned, hitting his face into his palm. "Oh, I knew he was being too obvious. Lemme guess, the whole team's picked up on it?"

Kunimi shook his head. "Actually, no. I'm the only one who knows."

"Really?" Iwaizumi was surprised. He thought for a bit. "No, I see it. You're definitely smarter than the rest of them, 'Kawa included." Then he sighed. "Alright, yeah, we are dating. We have been for a few months now and, if I'm honest, Tooru had been a little anxious about coming out to the team."

The first-year felt his jaw drop. "Oikawa-san? Anxious?"

Iwaizumi nodded. "Honestly, I mostly think he's worried about how you guys will take it. I mean, Kindaichi is pretty gay for you," Kunimi went bright red, "So he isn't worried about him, but the other kouhais... Especially the second years..." Iwaizumi's' face changed softly as he sighed. "He doesn't want to say, 'Hey, I'm dating the ace!' and suddenly lose all the respect he's been trying so hard to get. I mean, just last night, he was panicking about Kyoutani and Yahaba not being happy about it and I literally had to go round to his place to calm him down!"

Kunimi was frowning as Iwaizumi went on. He had never expected it to be Oikawa who was shy about coming out. He'd always thought it would be Iwaizumi.

"Not to mention, if Hanamakki and Mattsun didn't like it, Oikawa could be in a whole lot of trouble," Iwaizumi mused. "Those two have a lot of blackmail material."

Kunimi hesitated. "I think you should tell the team," He said. "I mean, Makki and Mattsun are basically 'no homo, bro, but I wanna marry you', Kyoutani has been padding after Yahaba for ages, Watari is too nice and Kindaichi wouldn't say anything."

Iwaizumi thought about it. "I'll talk to 'Kawa about it. Maybe he'll decide it's time to stop hiding it. If not, I'll have to take it into my own hands."

The next day, practise went by as normal. There was no big announcement or obvious romantic exchanges between the couple. It was infuriating! Kunimi began to get frustrated and distracted all throughout the drills. He slipped up and made easy mistakes.

It finally got to the point where he went to practise a spike, missed the ball and nearly fell when he landed.

"Kunimi!" Gasped Kindaichi, rushing forwards. "Are you alright?"

"Yeah, I'm fine, sorry," Kunimi brushed of Kindaichi embarrassedly. "I just wasn't paying attention."

Kindaichi nodded nervously. "Alright, cool. As long as you're okay-"

"Jesus, just kiss him already and stop being such a baby about it!" Kyoutani yelled. "Grow up!"

Both first-years went bright red and ignored their hypocritical senpai, moving out of the way so practice could continue. Meanwhile, Kyoutani's' words had had an impact, even if not on their intended target. Iwaizumi hadn't managed to convince Oikawa to come clean and he decided that Kyoutani was right. They were going to have to stop being babies about it and grow up.

A few hours later and practice was coming to a close. Kunimi was more frustrated than ever. Did Iwaizumi really have no luck with Oikawa? He looked at Sejoh's' captain hopefully, but the setter didn't seem like he was going to call the team to attention. In fact, he didn't even look nervous or like he had been worrying about something. Kunimi was just about to talk to him when-

"Sorry, before you guys go, I need to tell you all something," Iwaizumi said loudly, getting everyone's' attention. Kunimi glanced at Oikawa and saw him pale nervously.

"Iwa-chan-" He began.

"No, Shittykawa, I'm doing it," Iwaizumi interrupted bossily. The whole team seemed confused and Sejoh's' ace put his hands on his hips and swept them all with a fear-provoking glare. "I am dating the captain, he is the hottest, sweetest and most amazing man I've ever met,  and if any of you have a problem with it, we can take it outside. Got it?"

There was silence for a long time. The team slowly turned from Iwaizumi to Oikawa, who was bright red and examining his shoes intently. Then it hit them.

"WAIT, WHAT?!"
