"Hey, Aran! Kita!" Atsumu shouted loudly at the end of practise one day, as the two third years were beginning to leave, Osamu trailing behind him. "Wait a sec!"

They stopped and turned around, to see the second years bunched up with a grin.

"What is it, Atsumu?" Kita asked.

Osamu sighed. "'Tsumu's decided he wants to throw a party for the team tonight because we just got a text that our parents are gone for the weekend. Ren's said no, so-"

"You two in?" Atsumu asked brightly, interrupting his brother.

Aran turned to Kita, who looked up at him and shrugged. "I don't have anything else going on tonight. But I might leave earlier than the others," The captain told the twins.

"I'll come too," Aran said. "To keep you all out of trouble."

Suna nudged Atsumu and Osamu. "He's talking about you two."

The twins both glared at him and Suna snickered. Aran glanced at Kita again and smiled softly at him, even though he wasn't paying any attention to him.

It had seemed to always be like this. Fond glances, acts of kindness and a happy smile were common from Aran whenever Kita was involved. He just loved him so much and he knew Kita cared about the team, even is he couldn't show it well. Besides, Aran had seen Kita smile and he had heard his laugh. How could anyone not fall in love after that?

As he followed the team to the twins' house, he got distracted just by thinking about him. Kita was just too amazing, it wasn't fair.

The party was quite average, but the second years definitely had fun. If anything, it was less of a party and more of a large sleepover without anyone actually staying over.

It went past so quickly that when Kita stood up to go, Aran felt like he had barely talked to him.

"Do you want me to walk you home?" Aran offered quickly, following him out to the front door, where Kita was preparing to leave. "It's pretty dark out there."

"No, Aran, but thank you for your offer," Kita said politely, zipping up his jacket tightly. "I should be fine."

Aran hesitated, wanting Kita to stay but not knowing how to say it.

Kita's' eyes shined, the way they did when he was smiling without his mouth. "If you are that worried about me, I will text you when I get back."

"Okay, sure. That's good," Aran smiled back. "Well, I'll wait for your text."

His eyes kept shining and the smallest smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. "Goodbye."

"Bye..."

Kita nodded and then the captain left the party, leaving his friend standing in the twins' hallway, watching him go until the door closed.

That was when Suna cleared his throat from behind him, making the ace jump.

"You're obvious, y'know," He said. "Just ask him out."

Aran looked to Suna, then turned back to the front door. "Well... I may be obvious with how I feel, but he isn't obvious with how he feels. Besides, the team doesn't need their ace and captain to date. It'll just get complicated." Not letting Suna say another word, he left the middle blocker alone, walking back into the living room where the party was going on, as if it was oblivious to Kita's' absence.

Suna slipped in behind him, giving him a sharp look, but he didn't press the matter. Instead, he just slid up next to Osamu, who was on the sofa arguing with Atsumu, resting his head on his boyfriend's chest. The ace sat down on the floor, waiting nervously for a text. He kept fidgeting and checking his phone, realising how much he wished the level-headed boy was with him.

He could hear Kita's' voice in his head, telling him it was pointless to worry, because Kita was tall and rather intimidating at first glance. Besides, Kita had set his mind on going home and that was what he'd do. There was no reason to panic or get so nervous. Despite that soothing thought, Aran still felt relieved when Kita's' contact lit up, to show Aran that he had gotten a notification from him.

With a smile, he read the simple message, silently laughing at the formal and grammatical layout of a single text. How 'Kita' of him.

"Aran, who are ya texting?" Atsumu's' loud voice called out.

"Oh, uh, it's just Kita," Aran said.

Atsumu's' eyes widened and Suna sighed. "Woah, you have his number?"

"I've had it since first year," Frowned Aran, wondering if that was surprising. "He gave it to me because I was late to morning practise a lot and he promised that he'd call me every morning so I wouldn't sleep in."

"Wow, that's cool," Atsumu gasped.

Aran frowned. "It is?"

Osamu sighed. "'Tsumu just stole some beers and he's a total lightweight, take everything he says like it's coming from an incompetent toddler."

"When is it not?" Suna mumbled.

"Wait, so, does he, like, still call you in the mornings and stuff?" Atsumu said and Aran noticed the slur in his voice this time.

"Uh, sometimes-"

"Does he, like, remind you to do your homework too?"

"All the time-"

"Are you two married yet?"

There was a long pause of silence, where no one said anything and Aran's' blush grew deeper and deeper slowly. Suna snickered quietly.

"I'm sure he wants them to be married," The middle blocker said, sneakily exposing Aran.

"Woah, wait, what? Ya like Kita?" Osmau exclaimed. "Like, you like like him?"

Akagi clapped his hands together. "Oh my god, that's so cute! Have you told him yet? Is that why you always talk to him?"

Ginjima gasped. "Woah, wait, are you dating? Does he actually love you? How, like, affectionate is he?"

"Oh my god," Whined Atsumu, drunkenly fumbling with another beer. "Mommy and Daddy are dating."

Aran went red and Suna drawled, "They're not dating. Aran hasn't told Kita that he likes him, despite being way too obvious."

"Suna, it's complicated," Aran fired back, ignoring the disappointed slump from his underclassmen. "Besides, I'm not just gonna ask him out without knowing his feelings towards me. That would just be too much hassle and it might disrupt practises."

"Oh my god," Whined Atsumu, as Osamu stealthily plucked the beer away from him. "Mommy and Daddy aren't dating."

Ginjima frowned. "Which one's 'Mommy' and which one is 'Daddy'?"

Suna tried to hide his smirk. "Aran would be 'daddy' in the bedroom, for sure."

"Right, I'm telling Kita to give you extra laps," Aran said, beginning to text Kita back and the middle blocker paled.

"Wait, no, I'm sorry, don't make him give me extra laps!"

Osamu laughed at his boyfriend, opening the can of beer that Atsumu had failed to. "Hah, you kinda deserve this one, babe. Don't mess with the one who will snitch to captain."

Aran's' phone vibrated and he smiled at Suna. "Kita says, 'Sure, if you say so'."

The middle blocker groaned loudly, and slumped into his boyfriends' lap. Osamu petted his head with one head, swigging the bear with the other.

Akagi cocked an eyebrow. "You know that you're just as much as a lightweight as Atsumu, right?"

"Hey, fuck off, I can beat 'Tsumu at anything," Osamu shot back, before looking at Aran. "By the way, if you do like Kita, you probably want to say something about it soon."

"Why?"

Atsumu burped loudly, ignoring Ginjima's' look of disgust. "Because there's a girl in Kita's' class who wants to ask him out."

Aran stiffened and looked down at his phone, which was still open on Kita's' contact. He tightened his grip and sighed. "What if it's the wrong time? What if he doesn't want me like I want him? That would just make it really uncomfortable and it might scare him off."

"Well, either take your shot or give up," Suna said, sagely. "No one ever gets what they want by waiting for it to fall in their lap, y'know. You gotta try for a chance."

"Fine, you're right," Aran said. "I'll go talk to him."

He stood up and Akagi's' eyes widened. "Woah, you're going now?"

"Why the hell not? I'm gonna get it over with."

Ginjima grinned, punching the air. "Go, Aran! Take yer man!"

Atsumu applauded sloppily. "Enjoy yer wedding!" He slurred.

Osamu took a swig of the beer, flashing a thumbs up and Suna glanced up at Aran. "'The team doesn't need their ace and captain to date. It'll just get complicated.'" He mocked teasingly. "Just get on with it."

Aran rolled his eyes and left the living room, leaving the cheering second years behind him. The sound of the front door opening and closing rang through the house and Atsumu sniggered drunkenly. "There wasn't any girl gonna ask Kita-san out," He said, with a hiccup. "I lied~."

Ginjima tried not to laugh.

"Let's follow him!" Gasped Osamu, the beer going to his head. "Blackmail!"

"I couldn't agree more, babe," Suna smirked.

.:*:.

Aran stood on Kita's' porch, hesitating. The adrenaline of competition about this mystery girl was starting to fade and panic was settling in. If he knocked on the door, someone else could open it. If Kita opened it, would he ask him or chicken out? If he asked, Kita could say no. If he said yes... Aran went red at the idea.

Summoning up his bravery, he knocked on the door loudly, clenching his fists tightly. Moments dragged by and then the door opened.

Kita was standing there, looking politely intrigued, in a pale blue jumper and dark grey, loose jeans, with tidy, brown slippers on his feet. The captain tilted his head, stepping out onto the porch with his friend.

"Aran? Did the party end already?" Kita asked.

Aran jumped nervously, suddenly wishing he had rehearsed some lines. "No, the party's still going on, I-I just needed to talk to you."

Kita frowned very slightly. "I responded to your text. I agreed to your request, Suna will do extra laps tomorrow, for whatever reason."

"It's something else."

The white-haired boys' eyes seemed to brighten but Aran wasn't sure if he just imagined it. "What is it?"

"W-Well, I'm not quite sure how to say it tactfully, so... Kita Shinsuke, I like you. A-a lot. You're really sweet and caring and I want to be your boyfriend," Aran kept his eyes trained on Kitas' face, watching his reaction.

Kitas' eyes widened and he stared. "Oh..."

That one word felt like a gut punch. "'O-Oh'?" Aran echoed fearfully.

"Oh," Kita said again. "D-Do you mean it?"

"I do. I really do. Is that bad? Am I too late? Do you not like me back?" Aran began to panic. "That's okay! I can go! I mean, if this is making you uncomfortable, I'll just leave, sorry, I'll go!" He waved Kita goodbye, hurriedly stumbling away, and not giving him time to answer.

The ace began to rush down the porch, only to have someone catch his arm. "Aran, wait!"

He turned around, to see Kita.

The captain smiled at him. He actually smiled. It wasn't just a shine in his eyes anymore. Kita was genuinely beaming up at him. "I never said no."

Those four words made Arans' heart skip several beats and his face go warm. "So, i-is that a yes?"

"Of course." The shorter boys' smile seemed to get wider. "I like you too."

Aran could feel his heart doing flips in his chest and down to hold Kitas' hands in his. "You scared the crap out of me with that 'oh', y'know."

"I noticed," Kita said, sliding his hands out of Arans' grip and wrapping them around his waist instead, embracing the ace. "It's cold out here. Want to go inside instead? I was just watching a documentary, anyway, it was pretty boring."

Aran beamed back, hugging Kita back tightly. "I'd love to go inside with you.

The captain was still smiling at him and began to lead the ace inside his house. When he was sure Kita wasn't looking, Aran mouthed 'score' excitedly, elbowing the air victoriously. As Kita's' front door closed behind them, the second years in the bush clambered out exhaustedly.

"Not gonna lie," Akagi said. "I had a heart attack too when Kita said 'oh' like that."

"Did anyone else see Kita smile!" Gasped Ginjima. "I can't believe it, I used to be so scared but his smile is just the sweetest thing ever!"

Suna watched the video he had taken back on his phone, studying it. "This is totally gonna get Aran buying lunch for me for the rest of the year," He smirked. Then his phone started ringing and he picked up with a frown.

"Osmau? What is it?"

"Hey, babe," His boyfriend said, voice slurred and drunk. "'Tsumu threw up and I hurt myself. When are you coming back?"

"..." Suna pinched the bridge of his nose with his spare hand. "Coming back now."
