Different -{Terushou}
Look, I ship this so much but there's like no content for it, so I had to make some myself. If you don't like the ship, then just skip the chapter, please don't leave hate or a lengthy essay about how dumb the ship is. And I'm sorry if this is a controversial ship, I wouldn't really know because I don't really look into fandom tea qwq
Terushima felt privileged to be invited by Karasuno to a training camp. Johzenji had a few practise games with them and the managers started to get along really well, so it wasn't unexpected for the 'Party Team' to get thrown into a van and driven up to Tokyo for a month.
That's when he realised how tough the 'big leagues' were. There were three Tokyo powerhouses there, two of which were going to nationals, Karasuno, who beat Shiratorizawa, and two other teams that were pretty threatening. Not like the Johzeji team felt intimidated. They were here for a good time so that might as well be what they did!
On the first day, Johzenji won a set from a team with insane serves but lost the second and third set out of excitement. The next game they played was against Karsuno, who were just as fierce, if not fiercer than they remembered from the prelims and practise matches. Their final game of the first day was against a team called Nohebi and Terushima felt something different the moment he greeted the captain.
The guy looked nice, but there was a mean gleam in his eyes and his smile was cold. "Let's play a good game, hmm?" He said and shook Terushima's' hand.
"Sure!" He agreed, feeling his palms go sweaty and his face grow hot. "Obviously."
The other captain raised an eyebrow at his reaction but the game started soon afterwards, so they could both forget about it and Terushima was happy about that. Whatever happened earlier was something he wasn't too keen on remembering so the best thing to do was get as much adrenaline as he could in his system and forget all about it thanks to a good time. This match was far nicer than the other matches they had played but it was still not easy. Nohebi hit where it was hard to receive and their own defence was strong.
The first set went straight to Nohebi but the second one ran a lot longer. In fact, by the time everyone else had finished, the score was 32:31, with Johzenji in the lead, the two teams battling out a deuce. As a rally dragged on, players from the other teams began to gather around the court and watch. Most of Nekoma was loudly supporting Johzenji, especially the Rooster-Head, who mostly showed his support by hurling insults at Nohebi's' captain, who'd return them whenever he could.
Eventually, Nohebi won the game, thanks to one of their spikers making two service aces, finally solidifying the point gap. The moment it was done, both teams almost fell to the ground, breathing heavily.
Terushima face planted next to the net and noticed the Nohebi captain flopping onto his back on the other side.
"Hey," Terushima panted. "What's your name?"
"Suguru... Daishou..." Panted the other captain. "You?"
"Yuji Terushima." He rolled onto his back too, running his hand through his hair. "That was a good game."
Daishou made a grumbling noise, wiping the sweat off his face with his shirt. "You guys just didn't run out of energy..."
Terushima nodded. "And you guys kept the ball up and sent it to tough spots."
The captain of Nohebi glanced at him. "What year are you in?"
"Second."
"Really?" Daishou sounded surprised. "I thought you were a third year."
"Well, what about you?"
Daishou shrugged. "I'm a third year."
Terushima nodded to himself. "Yeah, I can believe that. You were hot- hardcore out there."
With an exhausted yawn, Daishou stretched his arms out and sat up. "You were good out there too. I can see why they made you their captain." Then his teammates called him over to join them as they finally began to do their stretches.
Terushima watched him leave until he too was dragged over to his team.

"There's something different about him," Hummed Terushima over breakfast with his team that morning.
Futamata looked up at him with a mouthful of food. "Who?" He asked.
"Daishou."
His friend swallowed his food. "Again, who?"
"Suguru Daishou, captain of Nohebi," Terushima elaborated with a thoughtful expression.
"What's so different about him?" Bobata asked, arching an eyebrow.
Terushima shrugged. "I don't know. He's just got this thing about him. He seems nice."
Futamata and Bobata exchanged a perplexed look.
"Uh, sure..." Bobata said.
"Nice," Futamata echoed.
"I'm warning you, snake, keep the hell away from our little libero, or I'm gonna-!"
"Gonna what, kitty? Are you gonna claw me with your little-wittle kitty claws? Are you gonna swat at me?"
"I swear, I am this close to spiking you into the floor!"
"Funny, that's the size of your brain!"
"Yeah, and I bet it's the same size as your d-"
"Shut up!" Shouted Daichi loudly, interrupting the argument between the two captains. Both Daishou and Kuroo awkwardly turned around and looked at Daichi, who stood there commandingly with his hands on his hips. "Kuroo, go to your table! Daishou, go to your table! Stop the fighting, now!"
The two bickering third years looked sulky but obediently slunk off to their respective teams, murmuring insults under their breath.
Futamata and Bobata looked back at their captain, only to see Terushima staring after Daishou with a sickeningly sweet and simpering expression.
"Oh, no," Bobata sighed.
"Oh, yes," Futamata grinned evilly.

There was a brief pause during the matches that day for the teams to grab lunch and Terushima seized this chance to talk to Daishou. Johzenji wasn't going to play against Nohebi today, so he decided to take any chances he got.
"Hey, Daishou-san!" He greeted, popping up behind the other captain, seemingly from nowhere.
"Oh, uh, Terushima," Daishou said, pausing his talk with his teammates to look at the second-year. "What's up?"
Terushima shrugged casually. "I just wanted to know, do you have some sort of beef with Nekoma's' captain? The rooster-head guy?"
Daishou's' eyes lit up when Terushima insulted Kuroo and he slung an arm around the second-years' shoulder like Terushima was an excitable first-year. "Well, between you and me, I think Kuroo is lying about his height," He said like it was a huge scandal. "I think he uses that crazy bedhead of his to add a few inches on, you know what I mean?"
"Ooh, do you think Karasuno's' number ten does that too?" Terushima asked. "His hair is like a damn explosion it's all over the place!"
"And Fukurodani's' little ace, right?" Daishou urged brightly. "Imagine if they were all lying, right? That'd be hilarious!"
One of the Nohebi third-years Daishou had been talking to simply rolled his eyes. "Honestly, Daishou, we know that they're not. Nekoma's' setter told us that Kuroo wasn't lying and he's not the type to cover stuff up like that."
"Oh, shut up, Numai, and let me have my fun!" Huffed Daishou grumpily.
Nohebi's' setter, Sakishima, snickered. "You're still sore that Nekoma beat us and is going to Nationals."
Daishou huffed loudly and removed his arm from Terushima's' shoulder to put his hands on his hips bossily. "Well, I'll just have to beat the hell out him when we get to college! And I will, that's a promise!"
"Course it is, captain," Numai laughed, punching Daishou in the gut in a friendly way. "But let's just beat their ass in one of these practice games and then you can keep going on with your dumb rivalry."
Sakishima looked up. "I think Coach is yelling for us," He said.
Daishou huffed. "Then I guess we gotta go." He turned back to Terushima and gave him a sly but friendly smirk. "See you around, Terushima. Good luck in your matches!"
"Right! You too!" Terushima called after him as he left.
Behind him, Futamata and Bobata slunk up behind him silently.
"You are either incredibly gay for him or you think he's a god in mortal form," Bobata decided.
"I think it's both," Futamata decided.
"You two-?! What the hell?!"

A few days into the training camp had passed and everyone had picked up on Terushima's' idolisation of Daishou, and nearly everyone had noticed his very obvious crush on Nohebi's' captain. However, Daishou managed to seem oblivious to those feelings, even if it looked like he was starting to feel the same way towards Terushima.
It was painfully obvious to everyone in the whole gym that they both liked each other when Terushima complimented Daishou's' serving skills in such a flattering way that he may as well have been Hinata gushing about the Tiny Giant. Not to mention, Daishou got incredibly flustered and tried to brush it off as nothing special shyly, while trying to dig for compliments at the same time.
Kuroo thought it was disgusting. Mainly because it involved Daishou and, in his opinion, Daishou was disgusting. But everyone else found it cute, in an awkward sort of way.
Eventually, though, the awkward, sickeningly slow romance was becoming too much for Terushima's' friends to handle. So they decided to take matters into their own hands.
The practise matches had just finished and the teams were drinking from their water bottles and wiping the sweat off them, casually talking amongst themselves, when Futamata and Bobata approached Daishou calmly with badly disguised causality.
"Hey, Daishou-san," Futamata said loudly, getting the attention of most teams. "That's a nice pair of shorts you've got."
Daishou arched an eyebrow, visibly untrusting. "Thanks?"
"They would like so much better on Terushima's' floor, though," Bobata added, leaning on the captain's' shoulder.
Nohebi burst out laughing and Daishou went an angry, flustered shade of red. Johzenji cheered and cackled and Kuroo made a noise like a hyena as Bokuto hooted. Terushima lookedlike he wanted to strangle his two teammates but didn't want any witnesses to the crime.
"What the hell?" Daishu spluttered defensively, forcing Bobata off him. "Are you hitting on me for Terushima? How the hell does that even work?"
Bobata shrugged. "I don't know."
"But do you want to know how Terushima can work your body?" Futamata asked, quickly jumping in with a terrible pick-up line.
"What are you two doing?" Terushima half-shrieked-half-whispered. "Shut up!"
Daishou looked either very furious or very embarrassed at the spectacle the two Johzenji second years were showing and he haughtily tried to ignore them but it didn't work out very well. Futamata and Bobata made loud and hilarious comments constantly until the teams finally parted ways.
The teams' manager began to step forwards nervously, preparing to scold Futamata and Bobata but she was beaten to it.
Instantly, Terushima grabbed his two friends by the shoulders and shook them vigorously. "What the hell was that, you idioits?! What if you just lost me my chance? Dammit, I am not having a good time anymore!"
"Relax, Teru, you were just taking too long!" Laughed Futamata. "We thought we'd help out a bit!"
"You flirted with Daishou-san for me!" Terushima exclaimed frantically. "How the hell was that gonna help?!"
Bobata shrugged. "I don't know, but it was funny, huh?"
"You probably made him feel really uncomfortable! You made me feel pretty uncomfortable! What the hell?!"
Slowly, the two stopped smiling. "Sorry, Teru," Apologised Bobata. "We just wanted to help..."
"Well, you didn't need to!" Scolded Terushima. "If you guys must know, I was planning something but I guess I'm gonna have to rethink my plan now!"
Futamata looked surprised. "Wait, you were actually gonna do something?"
"Yes!"
"What?"
Terushima stopped shaking them and smiled. "You're gonna find out."
.:*:.
Nohebi was playing against Nekoma first thing and they lost the match. Kuroo began lording it over Daishou and they began bickering once again. Most people at the camp acted like nothing had happened yesterday, although both Nohebi and Johzenji were whispering amongst themselves about the humiliation their captains had to go through.
Johzenji had a free period while Nohebi played their match and Terushima had been watching Daishou for the whole games' duration, with an almost thoughtful expression. Futamata and Bobata had often exchanged glances, wondering what he was planning, but they didn't speak up about anything.
Once the match had ended, Terushima stood up from his cross-legged position on the floor and dusted himself off, sweeping back his hair before fluffing it out again, trying to make it look perfect by using a dirty window to see his reflection. Finally, he deemed himself handsome enough and straightened up, smoothing out his clothes.
"Is it time for your re-evaluated plan?" Futamata asked eagerly.
Terushima nodded. "It is. Watch and learn, boys," He announced to his team. "This is how you try to score a date with a hot upperclassman!"
With his friends all watching on excitedly, Terushima walked, a little nervously, across the gym. He had never really felt nervous approaching anyone before. Daishou was different.
As he got closer and closer to the Nohebi team, he forced his hands to stop shaking and kept a calm expression on his face. Once he reached the team, he knew everyone was looking at him. No doubt, Bobata and Futamata spread the word that he was planning something to practically everyone in the camp.
Daishou looked up at him, having just finished wiping his face with a towel, and smiled. "Hi, Terushima," He greeted. "What's-" Terushima darted forwards, grabbed the third year by the collar and kissed him.
This was not the plan at all. The plan was to ask him if he wanted to hang out with him after dinner that night, then take him to a really good spot he had found nearby on google, flirt with him a little and then ask him if he wanted to go out on a date with him. Instead, he panicked when Daishou smiled, freaked out and did the first thing he could think off. It was not smooth, or hot or at all professional.
Before most people even had time to register it, Terushima quickly backed up awkwardly, bright red. "I did not mean to do that," He said, before Daishou could say anything. "That was not the plan. Oops."
"Nice going, Teru!" Yelled Futamata, in his personal way of being sarcastically supportive.
"I-I mean," Terushima rambled, ignoring the hoarde of laughing from the Johzenji as he awkwardly tried to explain what he was planning to do. "I was originally going to ask is you wanted go for dinner- no, I mean, ask if you wanted to hang out after dinner, an-and then ask if you wanted to go on a date and then I was gonna take you out for dinner, if you said yes, but then I sort of, kind of, completely freaked out, forget what I was gonna do, and sort of, kind of kissed you, which I wasn't really planning to do and I am so sorry!" Terushima bowed apologetically, clenching his fists in embarrasment.
Daishou was staring at him. He could feel his eyes focused on him and refused to look up. "I-I mean," Daishou began. "You could still go ahead with the original plan, if you want."
Terushima looked up, surprised, and saw Daishou quickly averting his eyes and awkwardly rubbing at the back of his neck, fidgeting around while keeping his feet grounded on the floor, face pink.
The second year perked up and Daishou kept talking. "It would only be fair, really, seeming as you randomly kissed me. To make up for it, y'know. And... stuff."
"Great!" Terushima said, bouncing back to his full height excitedly. "Then let's forget about that completely! Hey, Daishou-san?"
"Yes, Terushima?"
"Do you want to hang out with me after dinner tonight? Y'know, just have a look around?"
"Sure, Terushima. Sounds fun."
"Great!" Terushima hesitated. "Uh, so, I'll see ya after, uh, food consumption- I mean dinner!"
Daishou tried not to laugh, attempting miserably to keep a straight face. "Of course. I'll see you then."
"Bye?"
"...Was that a question?"
"Uh, no, it wasn't. Bye."
"Bye."
Terushima turned robotically on his heel and marched back to Johzenji.
The whole team was smirking at him, raising one eyebrow each in unison. It was deathly silent amongst them. Terushima stood in the middle of them then screamed into his hands and the rest all started laughing. Bobata and Futamata practically seemed to run out of air and ended up sprawling around on the floor.
"That-" Gasped Bobata, "Was the most- unique- way I think- I've ever seen- when sc- scoring a date- with- with an upperclassman!"
"I recorded it!" Crowed Futamata. "I recorded it!"
Terushima started laughing too, although he didn't collapse onto the floor with his friends. Daishou made him act differently, sometimes.Hopefully he'd be able to survive hanging out with Daishou without panicking again...
