Birthday -{Terushou}
Once again, I am feeding you my TeruShou agenda :D
Have some hurt/comfort and birthday surprises!
Terushima was in the changing rooms after practise, loudly chatting with his team when he got a phone call. It made everyone start, since Terushima's ringtone was an incredibly loud screaming noise, and he quickly rushed to answer the call. The caller just so happened to be one Daishou Suguru. His secret boyfriend.
Ah, shit.
"One second, boys!" He said, answering the phone so Daishou could hear he was with people. "My grandpa's just calling!"
All of Johzenji quietened down and separated slightly, to let Terushima out of the clubroom - they all knew how much Terushima loved his grandpa and they wouldn't want to upset him. Terushima hopped out of the room, pulling shorts on quickly. Letting the door shut behind him, he leaned forwards on the railing, the wind running in his hair.
"Hey, snakey-wakey," He quipped. "Why're you calling?"
There was a moment of hesitation. "Hey, Teru," His boyfriend sighed down the other end of the phone. He sounded... sad.
"Is everything okay?" Terushima asked quickly. "What's the matter?"
"The practise matches we had today? They didn't go well."
Terushima's heart stopped at the sound of defeat in Daishou's voice. "H-How so? Are you doing okay?"
"I'm fine, I guess, just... disappointed. It's not like we lost all of them but... The team wasn't playing well enough. They were fighting with each other."
"Numai and Hiroo again?"
Daishou hummed, sounding sad. "Yeah. They were arguing about the right attitude to have for practice and they weren't- no one was listening to me. It was like- like I wasn't even their captain, they weren't listening to me in timeouts or between matches. They just... ignored me."
Terushima clenched his fists slightly. "Well, bullshit for them, snakey-wakey! You're amazing and, if they don't see it, then they need glasses because you're a great captain!"
His boyfriend snorted a little at that and Terushima could almost see his reluctant, brief smirk flashing across his face, even from miles away.
"Seriously, Suguru, are you alright? I can catch a train down to Tokyo, if you want. Or we can meet halfway. Would you like to do that? After all, it is a special day..."
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone. "It is? I guess, yeah. It's Friday, so zoo tickets are twenty per cent off. We can go look at snakes?"
Terushima blinked slowly. "Oh. Uh. Yeah, the zoo. Um, sure, we can head to the zoo, if you want to. Where would you like to go after that?"
"Where would I like to go?" Echoed Daishou. "Uh, I don't know. Maybe we could head back to my place? If you gotta go home, I can just study."
The second-year sighed. "Okay, darling, you're a workaholic. I'm guessing you studied late last night, too?"
"We had a Japanese quiz coming up straight after practise!" Protested Daishou. "I had to do a quick bit of revision for it. Besides, we were set a lot of homework. I wanted to get it done."
"You don't have to do it all in one night, snakey-wakey!" Terushima whined.
Daishou had a smile in his voice upon hearing the nickname. "Yeah, well what do you do with your homework, then, babe? Never do it?"
"I do it before the lesson, obviously!" Terushima said brightly. "Besides, at least I'm getting enough sleep!"
"It was enough sleep!" Daishou answered quickly. "I just..." He sighed. "I slept in this morning and missed a bit of morning practice. Turns out the guys started without me. I had to do warm-ups by myself and then run a lap by myself. It doesn't help that some first-year decided it was a good day to accidentally spill their milk on me. My t-shirt has been smelling shitty all day. And the team left me to tidy up the gym alone after the practice match. They weren't even in the locker room when I got back..."
Terushima winced. "Sounds like you've had a crappy day, Suguru..."
"Tell me about it," His boyfriend sighed. "I don't think it could get any better... Aside from maybe seeing you, of course."
"Wanna see me now?" Suggested Terushima, moving to sit on the railing. "We can facetime!"
There was a moment of silence and then Daishou's camera turned on, Teurshima quickly following suit. Upon seeing his boyfriend's face, Daishou's sad and tired expression cracked a loving smile.
"Hey, snakey-wakey," Terushima said, flashing his brightest beam. "You look amazing. Where are you, right now? Doesn't look like your room."
"I'm still in school," Daishou explained, standing up. With the new angle, Terushima could see his boyfriend had been sitting on a bench in the locker room, with the lights off. He had changed into his uniform but still didn't seem like he wanted to go home, despite his bags being packed next to him. He hadn't bothered to shower after his practice."I haven't left just yet..."
Terushima hummed. "I can see that."
"I'm guessing you're outside your clubroom or something?"
The second-year nodded, looking back briefly to where the clubroom door was, his teammates still shouting inside. "Yeah, they haven't left yet so they don't know about us. I know you don't wanna come out yet, so I'm making sure they don't find out."
Daishou smiled at him. "What did I do to deserve you?"
"Nothing, snakey-wakey. I just adore you."
His boyfriend's cheeks went a little red. "Well, that's a dumb idea..."
"Stop denying my love!" Terushima whined. "Don't you want it?"
"I want it like hell," Daishou sighed, a small smile beginning to tug at his mouth again. "One second, let me turn on the lights."
"You've been sitting in the dark?"
"It matched my mood, shut up."
"So why are the lights going on, then?"
Daishou smiled at Terushima. "Because you've brightened my day," He said smoothly.
Terushima's eyes widened. "Since when were you flirty while going through your broody moping, snakey-wakey?"
"I don't know," Daishou shrugged, flicking a light switch and leaning against a wall. "I'm in a better mood, thanks to you."
"Ah, you're welcome, darling!" Terushima trilled, quickly getting a hold of himself. "And it seems you haven't realised something today, yet, but happy birthday, Suguru!"
Daishou frowned at him. "It's my what?"
"Happy birthday!" A collection of voices suddenly chorused from Daishou's end of the line and Terushima watched his boyfriend jolt in the air, nearly dropping his phone in shock.
"What the-? You guys are-? You heard?!" Daishou spluttered rather dumbly, staring at something the had appeared where he was originally sitting. "What are you-? What the fuck?"
Terushima watched in confusion as one of Daishou's teammates who he vaguely recognised from games hug his boyfriend tightly. "Happy birthday, captain!" He said. "We were gonna try to surprise you but you started chatting so we thought we'd leave you to it!"
Daishou still seemed stunned. "It's my birthday...? Wait, what? When was it- When was it my birthday?"
"I can't believe you forgot your own birthday, sweetheart," Terushima sighed. "I blame all your studying."
Daishou had enough sense in him to glare at his phone. "Oh, shut it, Yuji."
Terushima's view of his boyfriend was interrupted by a small cheesecake with a singular candle in was shoved towards Daishou's face. "Blow out the candle, buddy, and stop looking so surprised!" A voice Terushima recognised as Numai said. "We're sorry you had a bad day, we just wanted to make it a good surprise!"
Daishou looked down at the cake that was placed in his spare hand. Someone slowly pried his phone from his hand, still angling it so Terushima could see his boyfriend - he guessed it was Hiroo, since there weren't any weird twists for the new holder to see his face. Daishou was still looking down the cake, mouth opening and closing, like a fish. He slowly began to tear up.
"Hey, hey! Snakey! Are you okay? Darling, you alright?" Terushima asked quickly, feeling the need to push through his phone and hug his boyfriend tight. "Don't cry-!"
"I'm not crying!" Protested Daishou quickly, raising a hand to cover his eyes. "Shut up, you're crying!"
"Aw, baby," Whined Terushima. "Do you need a hug?"
Someone from Nohebi carefully took away Daishou's cake, keeping the candle carefully alight, and Numai wrapped his arms around his captain, hugging him close to his chest as Daishou began to freely cry, wiping his tears into his palm.
"Hey, bud, stop crying... It's alright, we're sorry you had a bad day." Numai patted him on the back. "But, hey, at least you had your surprise secret-boyfriend to cheer ya up!" A muffled, shaky laugh came from Daishou and Numai nodded sagely. "Yeah, buddy, we're gonna need to talk about that..."
"Hey, I'm not a secret boyfriend!" Terushima tried to protest. "You just weren't made aware of my presence because I'm so hot and snakey-wakey would get jealous and- babe, are you swearing at me? Hey, that's mean!"
"Shut up, Teru, you idiot," Mumbled Daishou, the affection clear in his voice. It made Terushima smile softly. He loved it when Daishou told him to shut up while not really meaning it. It just seemed cute.
"Um, Daishou-san? When are you gonna blow out this candle? My finger's been covered in wax because I tried to stop it getting on the cake..."
