Today I’ve decided to stop being indecisive and take a big step in my life. I mean, it’s not like anything will move unless I do, and today is special after all. I’ve decided to confess to my childhood friend and crush, Nishinoya Yuu.

I skip over to the volleyball club, excited. I know that the likeliness of being accepted after my confession is the same as the likeliness of fantasy becoming reality, but it can’t be helped. I don’t have high expectations anyway.

Right now though, it’s no use thinking about the inevitable. Enjoying the moment is all that matters, and that’s what I’m about to do.

“(Name), (Name)!” An energetic voice calls out. I look up; it’s Hinata. He grins. “Good morning—“

“—It’s afternoon already, dumbass!” Kageyama interrupts, smacking Hinata’s nape.

“That hurts, Bakageyama!”

“B-bakageyama?!” He looked taken aback, as if he’d heard the most offensive thing in his life. He grit his teeth and let out a growl, charging towards Hinata, whose hair stood up at the sight. Of course he doesn’t waste a second more and puts all his energy in escaping the de—I mean, Kageyama.

A chuckle escaped my lips. Really, those two are never tiring to look at.

“Gee, those two.  While I am happy that we have promising first years, they should really cut down on their arguments.” Daichi complains to Sugawara as they exit the gym.

Sugawara nods in response with an amused smile. “Well, it’s fine. Isn’t it?”

“Daichi, Suga!” I call out to the both of them with a wave. “Have you seen Nishinoya?”

They both look to each other before simultaneously pointing at the gym.

“I-I see. Thanks!”

What would make them react that way? But then again, Nishinoya is full of surprises…

I run inside the gym, more intrigued than I’d ever hoped to be, only to find Tanaka and Nishinoya kneeling on the ground, faces flushed, fists held forward, and jaws slacked. There could only be one reason for this, and that is of course Kiyoko.

Kiyoko stared at the both of them, flustered and uncomfortable, though that does not show on her face. Her current situation is really quite pitiful, and since I can do something about it, I will.

“No-ya-sa-n~!” I call out, catching their attention. “It’s lunch time y’know!”

“(N-Name)!” Nishinoya perks up at the sight of me. He clears his throat and straightens himself up before approaching me. (I don’t know what makes him think he needs to be sensible in front of me…) “Good afternoon.”

“It’s morning though.” Tanaka snickered. He looked at me, then to Nishinoya, a leering look on his face. “Well then, if you’ll excuse me~” He seemed to have whispered something to Nishinoya, who grew flustered and shooed him away.

But damn, they sure recover fast. I greet Kiyoko with a smile before she excused herself.

Nishinoya circles around me, interest perked for some reason, and looks at me with a hopeful look. Oh, that’s right. I promised to make him a bento today, too.

“I’ve got it, don’t worry.” I grin and hold up the bento my hand.

He clasps his hands together, a snobbish smile on his features. “As expected of, (Name)!”

*** Sometime Later ***

“Oh, it really is morning!” Nishinoya exclaims in surprise before sitting himself down next to me. He makes it sound like he made a new discovery or something. Why’s everyone obsessing with what time of day it is? Gee.

I smile and hand him his bento before opening mine and digging in. I rest my back against the wall and look up at the sky. It really is morning. Wait, oh my god, it is contagious!

Ten minutes passed since then. I’d secretly steal glances at Nishinoya every now and then, hoping he’d start a conversation. If I could, I would’ve done so myself, but the expression he made every time he tried something from my bento made it hard. I can’t possibly interrupt his enjoyment for my own benefit.

“(Name), (Name)!” He calls out, cheeks stuffed. What is it that he couldn’t wait to tell me? “I’ve come up with a great idea!”

Great idea he says… I gulp. “And what’s that great idea?”

“Let’s play the question game! It’ll be boring otherwise.”

“Well, sure. But lunch break is just about over and we’ll only have time for one question…”

“That’s fine, too! You start!”

“Um, well…” What is it that I wanted to know about Nishinoya more than anything? What is it about him that I couldn’t dare ask before? Oh, that’s right. It’s that. My face grew hotter from the thought. Looking down I say, “D-do you have someone you l-like?” Before looking back up.

Nishinoya stares at me, flabbergasted. It took him some time to recover from my question. A slight shade of pink was visible on his cheeks. “I-I do…”

“Oh… I see…” Well, of course he does… Somehow his answer struck me more than I had hoped it would though… “I-is it someone I know...?”

“It is…” He grew panicky at my sudden outburst of questions.

There was only one person that fit the bill of all the subtile hints he was giving. “Is it Kiyoko-san?”

He jumps up at the sudden accusation, the slight shade of pink on his cheek growing darker by the second. “W-with Kiyoko-san… it’s not like that!” He says through pouty lips.

I couldn’t stop a sad sigh from escaping my lips.

“(Name).” Noya calls out in a stern voice. “Think well.” And with that he exits the roof, leaving me alone with what seems like advice.

***At Home***

He did say think well, but about what? That my chances of rejection are over 9000?

I bury my face in my pillow, depressed from the thought. I guess it can’t be helped that I’ll just have to ask him. Worst case scenario I’ll have to confess as well.

“Yu-u~!” I call out from my balcony. As well as childhood friends, our houses were just a few centimeters apart. It’s pretty convenient, since we can jump in and out each other’s houses anytime.

Nishinoya slides open his window, a sweet grin taking over his features as soon as he spotted me. “Sup’!”

I blink, feeling my face heat up. His hair was down, and damp, he must've just gotten out of the shower. Really, I'm weak to that look of his... It's extremely cute!

"What?" He frowns, as if I'd just offended him with my excessive staring. (Gotta savor the moment!) It won't be good if I stare anymore, I'll get a nosebleed! Calm down, (Name). Freaking calm down!

Giggling, I say, “Well—“The smile leaves my face. I couldn’t help the thought that our friendship might just become strained after my confession. “T-that is….” I nervously look back and forth, trying to escape his gaze.

“What’s wrong?” He looks at me, worried. He probably noticed my weird behavior by now.

“A-about your advice! No one except Kiyoko-san fits really…”

As expected, I won’t be able to confess. I can’t help but feel self-pity.

He sighs, “(Name)! C’mere!”  He gestures for me to come closer with his hand. I gulp and do so.

The moment I do, however, he flicks my forehead with a grin and a shade of pink on his cheeks before saying, “It’s you, ba-ka~!”

--Extended Ending--

“It’s you, ba-ka~!”

I stare at him, dumbfounded and not uttering a single word. Nishinoya stays in place for about five minutes, or it’s more like, he’s frozen in place. A few seconds later, his face grew as red as a tomato, I wouldn’t have been surprised if steam started coming out of both his ears later.

“S-say something!” He yells, avoiding my eyes.

“Well,” Seeing him like this made my shock (yes shock, not surprise.) turn into embarrassment. Gee, he’s contagious.

His confession however, was unexpected. Not even in my wildest dreams would I have imagined he’d answer my feelings. But while I am happy, if I don’t kill this mood soon, things will probably stay awkward between us for a while, and I don’t want that, so I'll be leaving my confession for another day.

Rolling my eyes, I stick out my tongue and say, “Was that ‘baka’ really necessary? It’s such a turn off, BAKA.”

“S-SHUT UP!”

This is just my personal speculation but I think Nishinoya would be really comfortable around someone, or more specifically, a girl he's known for a long time, so this is where this came from... That aside, a vote and comment are much appreciated! Thanks for reading!
