ps: B/f/n is best friend's name
I dashed into class, skillfully managing to avoid being late by the skin of my teeth. "Tsukki! Yama-chan!" Two tall figures turned their heads at my voice, one smiling sweetly, the other looking like he had a spoonful of salt in his mouth. Sliding over the desks of my classmates and climbing through the chairs, I was soon standing next to them, my uniform a little messy per usual.
Giving them both a big smile, I reached up, ruffling Yamaguchi's hair who turned into a blushing mess at my touch. I turned, ready to do the same to Tsukishima, but he glared down at me through his thick glasses. "Don't you dare."
I hastily drew my hand back, fidgeting with my poorly tied bow. "How come you're only nice to Yama-chan, huh, Tsukki?" Tsukishima rolled his eyes, flicking my forehead at the same time. "He's slightly less annoying than you are. Also, don't call me Tsukki."
"Okay, Tsukki!" The blonde's gaze became slightly fiercer, sending chills down my spine. I ran behind Yamaguchi, my arms wrapped tightly around his waist with my face buried in his back. "Ahhh! Yama-chan protect me! Protect me from the Tsukki-saurus!"
"Eh?! L/n-san?!" Yamaguchi managed to catch a glimpse of me from behind him, his already big eyes even wider. I brought my head back out, leaning to the side so that he could see me better. My eyes narrowed into a glare, a small pout playing with my pink lips. "Yama-chan, I told you! Call me Y/n, Y/n!"His face went red again, the freckles on his face barely visible now. "O-Oh... Okay..."
"Yamaguchi! L/n!" Our pretty teacher was already at the board, her arms crossed with an eyebrow raised. "Would you two please stop flirting so that I can start class already?"
Heat rushed to my face, my cheeks most definitely bright pink, but it was nothing compared to Yamaguchi. He looked almost immobilized, a glowing red reaching from his neck to the tips of his ears. Swallowing my embarrassment, I turned to my teacher and bowed. "Sorry about that!"
My classmates behind me chuckled, some of the boys muttering about how they were jealous of Yamaguchi. Waving a manicured hand at me, my teacher had a small smile on her face. "Alright, alright, just get to your seat, L/n."
"Yes ma'am!"
*Timeskip brought to you by Yamaguchi's adorable ahoge hair*
"Ugh, class was so hard..." I slumped down, my head lolling forward as I held my cutely wrapped bento. Yamaguchi chuckled softly while Tsukishima was as stoic as always. "It was only hard if you're an idiot," I glared at him, so wanting to flick him on the forehead for a change.
Before I could open my mouth to retort, someone else spoke up in my place. "Tsukki! You know that L/n-san is in the same class as us, right?" The normally timid Yamaguchi was now giving his intimidating best friend the side eye. They stared at each other for a bit longer before Tsukishima clicked his tongue and started walking ahead. "Fine, whatever. I'll see you two after lunch, I'm eating by myself today."
Yamaguchi didn't even try to stop and instead just watched Tsukishima go off on his own. "Yama-chan?" I timidly pulled on his sleeve, nervous that I had just creating tension between my two friends. The greenette let out a small sigh, giving me a bashful smile. "Let's go eat, okay?"
The rest of the day went by fast, and before I knew it, school was over. I said my goodbyes to Yamaguchi and Tsukishima; thankfully there was absolutely no tension between them when we saw each other after lunch. Tsukishima said that he just wanted to eat alone today, which was fine by me.
Having lunch with just Yamaguchi was more fun than I could have ever imagined. It gave me a chance to remember all the little things that made me fall for him; the way his nose wrinkled a little when he laughed, the unruly piece of hair that stuck up from the rest of his olive mop, how his voice got a little louder when he was comfortable, and every single freckle on his face.
I shook my head, trying to get his face out of my mind. Instead, I needed to focus on getting ready for afternoon practice. I ran into the club room, threw on my clothes, and left along with the rest of the tennis team.
Tsukishima's Point of View
"Well?" I stared down at a nervous Yamaguchi, knowing exactly what happened during lunch; or rather, exactly what didn't happen. "I..." My childhood friend pulled on his gym shirt, his shoulders falling. "I couldn't do it..."
"Tch," I narrowed my eyes as he stared at the ground. "Are you ever gonna tell her?"
"Probably not..." Yamaguchi sighed, rubbing the back of his neck when Hinata poked his head through the door. "What are you two doing?! Practice is about to start!"
"Oh! We're coming!" Yamaguchi stuttered, quickly following him, only stopping to look back at me. "Aren't you coming, Tsukki?"
"I'll be there in a second."
"Oh... Alright." Once I made sure that Yamaguchi had left, I began to rummage through his bag. Finally I found it; his cellphone. Flipping it open, I searched through his contacts until I found L/n's name. It wasn't hard, she was one of the people that he had texted most recently. After typing out a quick message and hitting send, I snapped it shut, placing it back in his bag. "He'll thank me later."
Y/n's Point of View
Practice left me a sweaty mess, but that was nothing new. I chatted with my teammates as we headed for the club room, cleaning up the best I could with a towel, new clothes, and deodorant. After I had changed completely, I noticed that the light on my phone was blinking, signalling that I had a new message. I opened it with a satisfying click, scanning the text, that was apparently from Yamaguchi.
"EH?!" The device slipped from my hands, landing back in my bag while my friends turned to look at me confusion. "Is everything okay, Y/n?" B/f/n came up next to me, her hand on my shoulder while I shakily picked my phone back up. "N-No... Read this for me to make sure that I'm not hallucinating please..."
She snatched my phone, clearing her throat before squinting at the screen. "Hey, wanna go grab a bite to eat after practice?" She raised any eyebrow, not impressed until she read the sender's name. "Yamaguchi-san sent that?!" B/f/n knew about my huge crush on him and was now squealing with joy while I was still frozen with confusion.
"I would love to! And send!"
"Did you just send that?!" I realized what she was doing as she threw my bag at me, pushing me toward the door while the rest of the team cheered. "Yeah, I did! Now hurry or else you're gonna be late for your date!" She stuck my phone into my bag and then kicked me out of the club room, slamming the door in my face.
I stared at the closed door for a second, still in a bit shock of what just happened. Then it hit me; Yamaguchi had basically just asked me out on a date. I had to go!
Stumbling down the stairs, I sprinted for the front of the school, seeing the backs of my two friends. "Yama-chan! Tsukki! Wait!" Yamaguchi froze at the sound of my voice, Tsukishima looking back at me with a knowing smirk. "And that's my cue to leave." The blonde walked off, leaving us alone.
"L/n-" Yamaguchi stopped himself, shyly averting his eyes. "I mean, Y/n. Uh, you're here about the text, aren't you..." He took a deep breath, boldly meeting my gaze despite his hands shaking slightly. "Would you like to go on a date with me?!"
I couldn't help but giggle at how cute he looked, his fists clenched and his eyes now squeezed shut, which made his nose scrunch up adorably. Steeling my nerves, I grabbed one of his hands, stood up on my tippy-toes, and placed my lips against the tip of his freckled nose. His jade eyes popped open with surprise, blush already starting to attack his cheeks and ears.
Cocking my head to the side with a wink, I gave him a grin. "Does that answer your question, Yama-chan?" He let out a nervous laugh, ducking his head with his hand against his neck. "Yeah, yeah I think that it does..."
