Kita
Plot: You are the manager at Inarizaki and decide to debate a silly topic with Kita
You were a first-year student who had been called to the guidance counsellors office because you were stalling on choosing which club activity to join.
The class pointed at you and immaturely sang "ooh, Y/N is in trouble!" as you blushed and exited the room. The guidance counsellor showed you your options and between joining the drama club with all your ex-friends and managing the boys' volleyball team four days a week, the choice was a no-brainer.
Then walked in Shinsuke Kita, the captain of the volleyball team.
The sensei introduced him to you, and you bowed in respect. He was after all your upperclassman.
He barely spared you a glance and instead turned to the guidance counsellor, asking where to sign on your club application form.
"Our practice has started already, come with me." He glanced at you with his dull brown eyes and ushered out the door. You trailed behind him at a steady pace. "You don't need to be anxious."
"I am not an outgoing type of person," you confessed, wringing your hands together. "I don't make friends easily."
"That is fine. You don't need to be everyone's friend to do your job."
You frowned at his comment. Sure, it wasn't necessary to have friends but it certainly helped.
Still, as a first-year with no confidence (I mean you still had the cookie wrapper in your left pocket from this morning because you didn't want to get out of your seat to throw it out), you didn't bother to retort.
This attitude didn't stick around for too long.
Four months into being the manager of the Inarizaki volleyball club, and you had adopted some of the quirks and personality traits of the wild boys who were now your closest friends.
All except for Shinsuke Kita.
You were certain he hated you- okay, maybe not hate- but a strong dislike was the probability. Anytime you brought in snacks to share with Osamu, he would take it from your hands and gruffly answer, "you'll get crumbs in the gym" before throwing it away.
Or when you tried to cheer up Aran by telling him a joke (now that you think about it, the joke may have been a little inappropriate but it was in good faith!) and Kita walked by and pulled on Aran's ear, scolding him, "you are not an immature child to be laughing at jokes like that."
When Atsumu worked himself a little too hard and pulled a muscle in his shoulder, you had him sit down so you could massage some ointment on the area. Kita popped up over your shoulder, scaring the both of you near death, and explaining that if Atsumu was going to push his body past its breaking point, then he had to be prepared to bear the consequences.
Finally, the most recent, was when Suna started to slack off during practice and you began to do that ridiculous cheer routine for him. His lips lifted and his cheeks began to blush as he pretended that he couldn't see you trying to spell out his name with your hands. Then, Kita stood in front of you with his arms crossed over his chest.
"You are not Suna's private cheerleader L/N. This is embarrassing, stop."
Well, today you weren't going to have it. Today, you were going to put a stop to his cold logic.
"What do you mean water is not wet?" he paused in his steps, narrowing his eyes. "It is by its very nature a wet substance, therefore it is wet."
"No. It's a cause and effect relationship, Kita. Water is the cause of an object becoming wet when it comes into contact with it. Water = cause, wet = effect."
"If water is to make an object wet, it has to be wet itself."
"Not necessarily. Look, if you're underwater then you're not wet. You're submerged in a liquid. It's only when you come back up and make contact with the air that you become wet."
"You're wrong."
You blinked, clenching your hands into fists. "No, you're wrong."
The Inarizaki team watched both of you go back and forth, unyielding. What surprised them the most was that you, quiet and composed and kind you, were refusing to back down from an argument against Kita.
A man everyone on the team feared.
"To make something wet, the water had to stick to the surface of the object. Water isn't an object, it's a liquid."
"It's wet."
"It's not."
"It's wet."
"It's not."
You blinked and tried not to step back. In the back and forth, Kita had taken an intimidating step forward and was peering down at you. His brows were furrowed, golden eyes glaring down and you saw his nose twitch the slightest.
"It is wet and I'll prove it to you Sunday afternoon at the beach."
"Did you just," you stammered, "are you asking me out on a date?"
"Yes."
Your eyes widened.
"Unless," his lips pulled into a smirk, "you admit that you're wrong."
"I'm not wrong."
"Then I'll see you on Sunday." He stepped backwards, holding your gaze as he walked away. "Good practice everyone."
Your face turned a violent shade of red when you noticed the entire team watching you.
Suna opened his mouth but you shot him a glare. "Not a word," you threatened, "not one word."
