[2]. Happiness (Kageyama x Reader)

~Happiness - Kageyama Tobio~

Two seriously ill people stayed in the same hospital room for many months. One was allowed to sit up in her bed whenever she requested for it and the other had to spend all his time laying flat on his back.

After the black haired male was moved to the room the (Hair Color) haired girl was in, the two introduced themselves to each other.

You started, "(Last Name) (First Name), nice to meet you," a warm smile crept to your face, but you did not turn to face the male and stayed flat on your back, eyes closed.

"Kageyama Tobio," the boy said after.

After that day, the two of you talked for hours as the time past by. You and Kageyama spoke of your families, your homes, jobs, where you went on vacations, pretty much everything.

---

"I'm very sorry to hear that, (Last Name)," Kageyama replied, feeling sympathy for you and your kids.

"It's really okay now. Besides, that was a years ago. There's no point staying upset because my husband passed away, it won't bring him back," you smiled sadly. "But remembering it does make me feel upset..."

Kageyama didn't know what to do next. Should he be comforting you? He wasn't the best at comforting. So instead, he laid there awkwardly, mumbling um's, uh's and oh's.

You laughed, hearing his awkward mumbles. You asked Kageyama about his family and he snapped out. After a little while of talking about families, the both of you started asking each other questions.

"So then when's your birthday?"

"December 22nd."

"(Birthdate)'s is when mine is, haha."

"Okay. What's your favorite food? I like pork curry with egg on top."

"Yum. Mine's (Favorite Food). How about... Favorite sport?"

"Volleyball."

"For me it's (Favorite Sport)/too."

After couple of weeks of talking about each other, it started getting a little quiet between you and Kageyama, since the both of you couldn't really think of much to talk about nowadays.

After lying quietly in the room for sometime, you thought of something for Kageyama. You guessed that he was really bored. I mean, he was lying there flat on his back, staring at the ceiling and not being able to see anything else.

So every afternoon, you would sit up and pass the time by describing to Kageyama all the things you could see outside the window.

Out the window was a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans on the water, while children sailed their toy boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm among the flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

Another day, you described the scene of a view you saw in the distance. You were able to see hills, with a river flowing gently beneath it. You described the chattering of the birds in the green trees.

It was a truly amazing feeling to Kageyama, being able to witness a natural scenery that he was never able to see ever since arriving at the hospital. But though he could not see it, he was still able to visualize it.

During night times, you described how the moonlight shone down and reflected in the water of the lake. How the stars shone and twinkled in the night sky. The wind softly blew the branches of the trees and you could feel the cool breeze against your face.

One warm afternoon, you described a parade passing by. Though Kageyama could not hear the band, he could see it in his mind's eyes when he closed his eyes.

For the past few months, Kageyama felt like he began to live for that one hour each day, where his world would be broadened and enlivened by the activities of the outside world.

He enjoyed it being able to do so everyday, but unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. So this time, it was your good life that had to come to an end.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for you and Kageyama. When she came into the room, the nurse was shocked to find you lifeless. You died peacefully in your sleep and he nurse was saddened about this.

She called the hospital attendants to take your body as Kageyama upsettingly watched it leave the room. He was going to miss you so much.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the black haired male asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure Kageyama was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly but painfully, Kageyama propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real, outside world out described to him. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window and was surprised at the sight he saw.

He faced a blank wall.

Later, when the nurse came to give him his breakfast, Kageyama questioned her how this could be. He was really confused. You had described everything in perfect detail and this was how it really was?

"(Last Name)-san was blind and could not even see the wall. Perhaps she just wanted to make you feel better," the nurse responded with a smile, then walked out the door after Kageyama had nodded in response.

He painfully laid back down on his back and made himself comfortable. Kageyama stared at the ceiling for a little while, then closed his eyes as a smile slowly crept on his face.

"Thank you... (First Name)."

There is a tremendous happiness in making other happy, despite your own personal problems. Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared is doubled.

I'm sorry if this seemed short, but hopefully it was still enjoyable :)
