Chapter- 16

I woke up a shivering mess. When I realized that Dyson was on the complete other side of the bed, I instinctively crawled closer to him and cowered into his warmth. Immediately, the shivering stopped and I was warm again.

“What do you want for breakfast?” Dyson mumbled. I jumped a little bit since I didn’t even know that he was awake. Once I calmed down, I laid my head back on his chest and listened to his rhythmic breaths.

“What can we eat?” I countered.

He chuckled softly. “There’s a lot we can eat. We can go over to that Panera bread. Bread lasts for than four days.”

“Has it been only four days?” I squeaked.

He chuckled. “I have no idea. But we might as well give it a shot.” He mumbled, pulling me up so that he could kiss my cheek.

I let out a girly giggle. “Let me go brush my teeth. I’ll be right back and then we can go.”

He sighed. “Alright.”

It took me a minute to gather the strength to step out into the cold again, away from Dyson’s warmth but my hunger overruled my need for warmth and I stood to my feet after slipping into some thick slippers.

I brushed my teeth and hair before changing clothes. I wore a t-shirt covered by a lime green hoodie from Wet Seal and two pairs of Victoria Secret sweat pants.

When I got back into the beds, Dyson was waiting for me. “You take forever.” He grunted.

I stuck my tongue out at him. “I’m a girl, it’s what we do. And it’s not like we have anywhere to be.”

He put my hand in his and we walked across the hallway and took a right turn towards the Panera Bread. It actually wasn’t too far away.

“Fine.” He huffed, bending down and planting his lips on my cheek quickly before we turned into the bread store. Usually this restaurant was filled with the aroma of freshly baked bread and for some reason cinnamon. Now, the smell didn’t differ from the painful freeze of the rest of the mall.

“Is anything edible?” I asked Dyson after he started inspecting the back kitchen.

“Yeah, most of it, actually. They keep their bread sealed nicely.”

“Well, that’s good, right?” I asked excitedly as my stomach let out a quiet whine.

He let out a small chuckle and if the wall that separated the dining area from the kitchen wasn’t there, I was sure I would be able to see his smirk. “Yeah, that’s good. It means that it didn’t mold and it’s still good. But it won’t taste as good as it should.”

“I don’t care, I’m starving.” I groaned, laying my head on the cold black table that I was sitting at.

“Baguette or braid?” He asked.

“Baguette!” I squealed. “I love those things.”

This time, his laugh was full blown and incredibly sexy even if I couldn’t see his face. I’m really almost glad that he didn’t laugh like that a few days ago when I thought that I hated him because I probably would have embarrassed myself somehow. “It’s just a stick of bread.”

“A long stick of bread.” I corrected him. “They’re huge.”

He came back out of the back with a long baguette and a large knife before stopping behind the counter and cutting the bread into tiny pieces. “You’re kind of weird.” Dyson mumbled teasingly.

“Well you’re kind of a jerk.” I shot back with a playful smile.

He walked around the corner and sat the ceramic plate in the center of the table that I was sitting at and took one of the slices for himself while I took one and took a huge chunk out of the side, similar to a cavewoman. “And there’s not even butter.” Dyson said, clucking his tongue and shaking his head disapprovingly at me.

“I said I was hungry.” I defended.

We finished the whole plate of cut up bread through fits of laughter and a small bread fight. More than once, I was crying because I was laughing so hard. I loved laughing so hard, I loved the feeling of having something to laugh about and somebody to laugh with. For once in quite a while, I didn’t feel… alone.

I carried the empty plate to behind the counter and put the plate in the sink but didn’t rinse it off. When I returned to where Dyson was sitting, I saw that he wasn’t standing anymore but standing with a weird look in his eye.

“What’s up with the face?” I asked awkwardly.

“Nothing.” He said, a smirk making its way onto his mouth.

“Tell me.” I nearly whined, taking a step closer to him.

Before I could blink, Dyson grabbed my waist in his large, warm hands and turned us around, lifting me so that I was sitting on the table that we were eating at. My back was pressed against the wall behind the table and Dyson’s lips brushed against mine as he spoke. “I just really want to kiss you.” He whispered.

“You’re a frikkin’ vampire.” I stated, even though there were balls of fire spiraling down my spine, warming everything inside of me with just his touch and his breath on my cheek.

He smiled against my lips before pressing into me with a deep kiss. Like one of those kisses that just knocks the wind out of you and leaves you begging for more. I moved my lips with his and lifted my hands to play in his swoopy brownish hair, pulling him closer to me as he stood between my legs, getting as close to me as possible, which I had no problem with at all.

When his tongue asked for entrance into my mouth, I eagerly accepted with a light moan into his mouth. He smiled against my lips before deepening the kiss and tucking his hands under the sweatshirt so they rested on my bare waist, filling my skin with tingly warmth.

I felt him let out a strangled groan from the back of his throat as he pulled me even closer, if that was even possible as his hands slid down to the waist band of my sweats. His fingers lightly played with the elastic, teasing me.

I desperately started moving my hips, trying to get his hands where I wanted them. Dyson chuckled and pulled away from me, leaving us both breathing heavily.

I rested my head back onto the wall behind me and let my legs dangle off of the table. I didn’t trust them to hold my weight because my knees felt like jelly right now.

“W-why’d you stop?” I whimpered between breaths.

He smiled weakly, wiping a piece of hair from my face and kissing my forehead lightly. “Because if we went any further, I wouldn’t of been able to.”

I let out an aggravated sigh, I didn’t want him to stop at all but I wasn’t going to argue with him and make myself sound desperate. I just stayed silent and listened to the silence that was only filled with our heavy breaths.

“What were you talking about last night?” I asked randomly once our breaths had evened out.

“What do you mean?” He asked as I hopped off of the table and we started walking back towards the Macy’s, hand in hand.

“Well I was about to go to sleep and you said, ‘I won’t fuck this up, not again.’ What did that mean?” I asked curiously.

He shrugged. “I don’t know, maybe you were just crazy on your meds.” He mumbled nervously.

I raised my eyebrows at him, anger spurting up inside of me. “Don’t talk to me like I’m a loon.” I snapped, stopping in my tracks and causing Dyson to let go of my hand as he spun around to face me. “I’m not crazy and it's a sleeping pill, not cocain. I know what I heard and I don’t hallucinate.”

“Then maybe it was a dream because I didn’t say that.” He denied, but his face and the look in his eyes told me otherwise.

“You’re lying. I can tell by your face. I was just asking, I didn’t want this to turn into a fight or something, I was just asking.”

“Is that what we’re doing? We’re fighting?” He asked with raised eyebrows.

“We’re about to!” I nearly shrieked. “Because you’re lying to me and I don’t know why because I just asked a simple question.”

“Look, just drop it.” He said roughly, turning on his heels and continuing down the empty hall.

“Just drop it? Why are you hiding something from me? It can’t be that bad.” I called after him but made no effort to move from my place on the tile floors.

“Yes, drop it. It’s not really any of your business anyway.” He said. He stopped walking but he didn’t turn around to look at me.

My jaw dropped and I could instantly feel tears wanting to fall down my face, but I wouldn’t let them. “It’s none of my business? Dyson, I told you my deepest, darkest secret yesterday. Nobody in my life knows about Mason but I told you. Just you! You think that was any of your business? But I told you because I trusted you.”

“Trusted?” He repeated in a gruff voice. “That’s past tense.”

“I know what trusted means!” I screeched. “Why would I trust you with anything if you can’t just answer one question? I told you everything, god dammit! And you can’t do the same?”

He didn’t answer, or turn around, which I was kind of grateful for because tears were pouring down my face right now with pure embarrassment. “Fine, whatever. Don’t tell me.” I mumbled, turning around to go the other way as I quickly wiped any tears away from my face.

“Where are you going?” He asked softly.

I felt incredibly frustrated, angry, and for some reason, used. Like he never really liked me. If he trusted me as much as I did to him, then why couldn’t he just tell me what he was talking about last night? “Away from you!” I yelled without turning around.

And again, I felt alone.
