Chapter 39.

You look like trash can that's been around for 20 years.

"I still can't believe that numbnut broke up with me. With me." I scoffed, not denying that it definitely hurt my ego.

"Let it go." Evan said. "It has been more than two weeks."

I narrowed my eyes at him. "Where is your girlfriend anyways? She has disappeared. No calls, no messages. Are you sure she isn't cahooting with the enemy?"

Evan flinched and I could see the hurt in his eyes but I didn't care. He leaned towards Zivah. "What is with her?"

Zivah rolled her eyes. "She's gone mad. It's the breakup fever. She's throwing truth bombs which will hurt. Ignore her. I know I am."

Evan nodded but gave me a stink eye. In response I sent him deadly glare.

I looked back at the Netflix screen, looking at all the Romantic movies. "Stupid movie." I muttered looking at The Ugly Truth. "Useless Hopeless movie." I said to Crazy Rich Asians. "What a load of crap." I screamed at The Proposal.

"All stupid movies that made me believe in love. Dumb directors. Dumb writers. Dumb actors." I looked at the two friends who looked at me with scared eyes. "And don't even get me started on Nicholas Sparks books and Nora Roberts. What do they know about love? I'll tell you – nothing, nada. Delusional little people. Ugh. You want to know about love? I'll tell you – it sucks! S-U-C-K-S. It is stupid and you should never love again. No one should ever love again."

Evan whispered to Zivah in a low tone. "Do we have to stay here?"

Zivah nodded. "Yes, at least now she's talking to us. Yesterday she was talking to the Ice cream tub, complaining about how those love quotes are all lies and the whole world is filled with hate." She paused, pointing at the two empty Ice cream tubs. "She ate it all. In one sitting. That's DEFCON 2."

"What's DEFCON 1?" Evan questioned curiously, his chin resting on his palms.

I continued to look at them, barely blinking and with an emotionless face. "I should go to Las Vegas." I suddenly said. "Get married. Get kids. And then send all those images to that bastard. That will make Alex jealous. That will make him regret leaving me." I grinned, complexly happy with the idea. I clapped in glee. "Las Vegas! Wohoo!" I screamed, waving my hands in the air. "Let's packs kids. We are getting me some semen."

"Oh God." Evan breathed out, his eyes widening.

Zivah patted his back lightly. "And that is DEFCON 1. Major delusional ideas and senseless suggestions."

Evan turned to Zivah with a worried face. "She isn't really going to Las Vegas, is she?"

I frowned at them. "She? We!" I corrected. I drew a circle with my forefinger. "We are all going to Vegas."

"This is not how I planned a trip." Evan grumbled.

"Myra, just go to sleep." Zivah said.

I frowned at her. "Why do you keep telling me to go to sleep? You said that yesterday when I suggested we throw stones at Alex's window. You said that the day before yesterday when I said I would hack into Netflix and take down all the romantic movies."

Evan's head snapped to Zivah. "She did what now?"

"I didn't hack into Netflix. Zivah told me to sleep." I twisted my lips at my best friend. "It's like you didn't want me to hack into Netflix."

"No, it's like I don't want you to join Ray Parker in the prison." Zivah snapped back.

I blinked at her. "Are you angry at me?"

Zivah closed her eyes and took a really long breath. She opened her eyes as she breathed out. "I understand that you are going through a break up and I am there to support you. But you have gone crazy. You even declined that job you got."

I scoffed. "I didn't decline."

"I was being polite. They fired you on your second day because you refused to increase their security and instead wanted to hack them, find out all the couples working in the company and destroy them."

I scratched the back of my neck awkwardly. "I was just kidding."

Zivah waved a letter in front of me. "That's not what this warning letter says. You have lost it Myra. And if you don't stop this madness now. I will take tie you up and leave you starving."

I frowned at her words. "Wouldn't that just aggravate me more? Are you sure you did psychology?"

She rubbed her hand over her face and I could sense that she was exasperated now. "I treat patients everyday Myra. I do not want to come home to one."

I puffed out air and nodded. "So what do I do now? No Las Vegas?" I pouted.

"No Las Vegas." Zivah concluded.

"How about Atlantic City."

"No."

"Disneyland?"

"Yes!" Evan exclaimed in happiness.

He instantly cooled down when Zivah gave him a cold eye. "This is what's going to happen." She pointed at me. "You are going to go take a nice long bubble bath because you stink real bad. And then wear some nice Pajamas and eat real food, not Nutellas and ice creams."

I twisted my lips. "Sounds like an awful plan."

"That's the only one happening. After that we will brainstorm on how to put Ray back into jail so you can go and be with your lover boy."

I sulked even more. "I don't want to be with that asshole. He doesn't even love me enough to fight for me. What kind of a ridiculous love is that?"

Ziv rolled her eyes. "He had his reasons."

"Yes. Saving other people's homes. Ugh. Since when did he become such an honorable man?"

"You are the one to talk." Zivah argued back. "You took revenge for a childhood pen pal you had never even met."

That shut me up. I shrugged a shoulder. "Sometimes I wonder if I did right."

"Someone had to do it. Ray is seriously a whack job. And he would have messed up more lives if you hadn't done something." Zivah consoled.

"Yeah now the only life he is messing up is mine and Alex's."

"And mine." Evan piped in.

I raised an eyebrow. "How is any of this affecting you?"

"We were supposed to play Monopoly." He waved his hands around. "Do you see me owning Boardwalk?"

Zivah slapped Evan's back. "Just call and check where Athena is."

"Fine but if she doesn't pick up the call, don't shout at me."

As Evan picked up his phone and dialed her number, I turned to Ziv. "Where is she anyways?"

"Beats me. She didn't pick up yesterday?"

I shook my head. "I called and asked Ajay too. She hasn't been to the office in two weeks. A long unplanned leave they said."

We glanced at Evan who was holding the phone to his ear listing to the caller tune.

"Should I hack her location?" I whispered to Zivah so Evan wouldn't hear us.

I could see Ziv agreed with me but didn't want to take that drastic step.

"Maybe call and ask Alex." I suggested.

Zivah sighed. "I talked to him. She just said she'll be back as soon as she can."

"Very detailed." I sassed. "How is he?" I asked pretending to be nonchalant but deep down I hoped he felt like a lost puppy on the verge of dying.

Zivah ran her eyes over my face, trying to analyze me. "He is fine. Not good but he has office to go to and work to keep him occupied."

"Is he eating properly?"

"Yes."

"Dammit."

"Myra!"

I blinked innocently at Zivah. "You are my best friend and some guy just broke my heart. Support me."

"And you still love that guy so be considerate."

I twisted my mouth. "Blah blah and blah. In movies the girl best friend takes revenge on the ex-boyfriend."

"And in movies the actress looks hot – you look like trash can that's been around for 20 years."

Before I could shove my middle finger up her face, Evan interrupted.

"She isn't picking up." Evan said, showing us the four times he called her. "Two times it rang and she didn't pick up and now it's turned off."

"Nice girlfriend." I couldn't help but taunt.

Evan politely ignored the call. "I think she might be in danger."

"It's Athena. She is the danger."

"Just because she dressed as Black Widow doesn't mean she became one. Just trust me on this." Evan replied.

"Fine what do you want us to about it?" I asked sarcastically.

"Hack her phone."

I blinked in shock at him. "What?"

"That's my girlfriend. And yes, she can be a weird and a terrifying woman but she wouldn't just disappear without telling anyone about it. Without a proper explanation. The only probable cause is she is kidnapped. Especially with the Ray on the loose."

"Her phone was just on. Ray would never make that rookie mistake." I noted. "Kidnapped people don't have their phones on."

"That's because no one can report her missing or kidnapped. The office has a mail that she's on leave, Alex has a message. She texted me that she was going to her mother's-"

I gasped at Evan. "She did?"

Evan cleared his throat awkwardly. "Yes."

"Then maybe she is!" I exclaimed. "Her step-father was sick, maybe she finally decided to go."

Evan shook his head. "I am telling you she is not in Ottawa."

"How do you know that?" Zivah asked.

"I checked all the busses going there. No one named Athena booked a ticket."

I could see this was killing Evan. He desperately wanted to know what happened to Athena and truthfully so did I. But the chances of her being kidnapped were very less.

"Okay." I finally agreed. "Let's hack her phone. End this once and for all. If she's in Ottawa, I am killing her when she comes back for not picking up our calls but if she's kidnapped then we-" I paused. "Well we do something about it."

Just then the doorbell rang and Zivah went to open the door.

"Package for Myra Collins."

"That's me." I piped from behind, frowning at the brown box. I hadn't ordered anything. What was in that then?

The man nodded and gave the box to Zivah. She took it and closed the door behind him.

I slowly opened the box and gasped as I saw what was inside. "You have got to be kidding me!"

"What is it?" Evan asked, coming closer and peeping into the box.

There in the box was the Betta fish I had given to Alex on our Aquarium date. That piece of shit returned it back. Oh I could do some serious harm now.

I was fuming with anger and my hands clenched into fists as I saw the fish. "I will kill him." I swore. If I was a dragon, the building would have burnt under my angry flames by now.

"Damn." Evan whistled softly. "That's not good."

I glared at the stupid fish and picked it up. "Die Lena, die." I said to it in rage and threw the fish against the wall.

It hit the wall and fell on the ground and then Lena spoke, freezing all three of us.

"Relax Myra. It's not from your ex-boyfriend. It's from your future husband."

Ray Parker's haughty cackle was the one to haunt me forever.
