Lucas' POV

Back to school. I know it was just the weekend but I wish it could last forever. It's been hard trying to make friends. Especially when I'm not the best at meeting new people. But there I was walking in the hall on to my 2nd class. As I walked in I noticed that two of the girls that were mermaids were in my class. One with curly hair blue eyes. And the other had honey blonde hair and blue eyes. I was looking at them and I guessed they noticed because they started to look at me. I turned my head away and at that moment class started.

At lunch I grabbed some food and sat down at an empty table. I was starting to get used to sitting alone. But today was different. The same to girls I saw in my second class walked over to me.

"Hey" The girl with the curly hair blue eyes said. "I'm Rikki".

"I'm Bella" The girl with honey blonde hair said. "We wanted to know if these seats were taken?"

I replied back to them "No they aren't taken". And they sat down.

"So we saw your new here" Bella said. "How do you like our school?"

"It's good and pretty nice but you know school is school" I said.

"Yeah I totally get it. I don't get school. Some of the things we learn we don't use" Rikki said. After she said the girl I saw at the cafe and as a mermaid sat down.

"Hi I'm Cleo" 

"Nice to meet you" I replied.

"So what is your name?" Bella asked.

"Oh I'm Lucas Greene" I said. After I said that ANOTHER girl came by and sat down. I recognized her instantly. It was the mermaid the one with beautiful eyes and straight blonde hair.

She seemed sorta on edge too but she managed to say "Hi, I'm Emma".

Wow she even had a gorgeous name. Then she smiled and started eating. Her smile was really pretty too. I realized I was staring so I quickly looked down and started eating my food.

"So what do you like to do?" Cleo asked.

"Well I like to swim.." The instant I said that I knew I shouldn't. "And um I like to do many sports and of course some other things". I tried to change the subject about swimming but since I knew three of them were mermaids (and I was guessing Bella was too) they were going to ask some more questions about swimming.

"So where do you like to swim?" Rikki asked.

"Well I like to go to pools but they get crowded so I mainly like to swim in the ocean" I said and then quickly added "close to the shore".

"Cool" Emma said.

"So what do you like to do?" I asked them.

They looked at each other and then Cleo said something

"Well we love to hang around and chat but we aren't much swimmers. Though we do love a good walk on the beach".

Then the bell rang.

"Well Lucas it was fun chatting but we'll see you at lunch tomorrow" Cleo said. And they rushed to their next class. I smiled. I finally found some friends. And even though they didn't know, we were more alike than they thought.

Cleo's POV

After our last class finished I rushed to my locker and once I got my things I ran to meet with the girls and Lewis. We were going to meet up at the cafe. That's when I saw Lucas so I walked up to him and smiled. 

"Hey" I said.

"Hey Cleo" he replied.

"I was wondering if you wanted to meet up with me and the girls to meet someone else we usually hang out with. If you are free that is." I said.

He looked surprised by the offer but he quickly said "Sure I'd love that".

I knew Emma liked him and by the looks he gave her I had a suspicion he liked her too. 

"Meet us at the cafe as soon as you can" I said.

"Ok I'll see you in a bit."

I then skipped all the way to the cafe feeling very happy. I knew he needed some friends and we were perfect for that. As long as we didn't expose our secret to him.

Rikki's POV

I had just gotten to the cafe and saw Emma and Bella were already there in the booth we usually sit at.

"Hey" I said.

"Hey you've seen Cleo?" Emma asked.

"No but she'll be here soon".

As soon as I said that Cleo and Lewis walked in.

"Hey guys" Cleo said. "I invited Lucas to join us today." I looked at Emma and she was looking in the distance.

"Em we know you like him." I said.

Em looked startled and said "What? No I don't".

We looked at her.

"Ok fine I may have a tiny crush on him but I don't know him much. Plus I don't think it's a good time to have a boyfriend.

"Oh come on Em, we all have boyfriends who know we are mermaids" I said.

"I know but maybe I'll just wait until I know him better. Gotta make sure he'll keep our secret that we are merm..."

She was cut off because right at that second he walked in.

"Hi guys. Sorry am I late?"

"No no it's fine" said Cleo. "Let's all get something to drink".
