Chapter 2 {Adventure Time!}
"Dr. Gearloose, I finished-" (Y/n) started, but was interrupted.
"Gyro!" a young duckling in blue ran out of the elevator and over to Dr. Gearloose, "Did you finish the you-know-what?"
"I am not building you rocket boots." he replied to the kid.
"Gyro," Scrooge McDuck had entered after the duck in blue, and was walking over to Dr. Gearloose, "How's the young lass doing?"
"She's been very helpful, and is very smart for her age."
Scrooge nodded, and the two grown-ups continued their conversation.
"So, you're the new intern?" the young duck turned to (Y/n).
'Yeah," she replied.
"I'm Dewey." he smiled.
"(Y/n)." she smiled back.
"So, do you think you could build me some rocket boots?"
"Maybe one day," (Y/n) laughed, "Right now I'm still learning."
"Well, today, my Uncle Scrooge," Wait. Uncle Scrooge?! "My brothers, my friend Webby, and I are going on an adventure! Do you wanna come with us?" he asked. (Y/n) smiled.
"I'll have to ask Dr. Gearloose." (Y/n) replied.
"And I'll have to ask my uncle."
They both walked over to where the grown-ups were still talking.
"Hey, Uncle Scrooge, can (Y/n) come with us?" Dewey asked his uncle.
"That would be up to Gyro and (Y/n)'s parents." the old duck replied.
"Doesn't matter to me. She's done with her work for the day." Gyro stated simply.
"I'll go call my mom." (Y/n) said excitedly, running off for a second, then coming back, "She said 'Sure'."
Soon enough, they were on their way to meet the others that would be going with them. As soon as Mr. McDuck had parked his car, Dewey dragged (Y/n) out of the car and over to a group of kids.
"Hey everyone! This is my new friend, (Y/n)!" he shouted, putting her in the spotlight, a place she most certainly did not want to be.
"Um, hi." she waved awkwardly at the staring crowd.
"Hey. I'm Louie." a duck wearing a green hoodie said, not looking up from his phone. A girl duck leapt up in front of (Y/n).
"Hi! I'm Webby!" she nearly shouted, "Who's your favorite singer? What's your favorite color? Have you ever been adventuring? What's your favorite book genre?" she finished.
"Uh..." was the only sound (Y/n) made.
"Sorry about Webby," a duck wearing a red shirt and a red cap stepped in between the two, "She just gets really excited about new people," he stuck out his hand, "I'm Huey, the eldest, and most responsible, of the triplets."
(Y/n) then realized that Dewey, Huey, and... What was the other one's name? Oh right, Louie. That they were triplets. (Y/n) shook Huey's outstretched hand. She was about to say something when-
"We're ready to go!" said a tall duck, who was wearing an aviator jacket.
"Come on, kids." Scrooge said, and everyone went into a plane that was near where they were standing.
"Time for adventure!" Dewey exclaimed, climbing into a seat and buckling in. (Y/n) sat down beside him in a window seat, and Webby sat in the seat on the other side of him.
"So," (Y/n) started, "Where are we going?" she asked Dewey.
"Oh, right! I forgot to tell you!" he responded, "We're going to Mount Killarang to find a valuable gem hidden in the heart of the mountain!"
"Does it do anything?: (Y/n) questioned.
"Nope-" Dewey was cut off by his brother.
"But it is worth a lot." Louie said, putting in his earbuds.
"It's time for take-off!" the pilot from earlier said over the PA system.
"That's Launchpad, by the way." Dewey added. Is that a nickname, or, like, his real name? (Y/n) thought to herself.
Soon, they had arrived at Mount Killarang.
"Stay together, everyone." Scrooge instructed, and then they were off.
"So, do you know what Gyro's been working on?" Dewey asked (Y/n) as they clambered up the path that had been made up the mountain. She shrugged.
"I don't ever know what he's up to." she answered.
"Wait, did I miss something?" Louie asked, confused.
"(Y/n) is Gyro's new intern," said Dewey.
"Wait! You're Gyro's new intern?!" Huey chimed in excitedly.
"Weren't you listening to what Dewey just said?" Louie teased his brother with a smirk. (Y/n) laughed a bit at the remark. Louie gave her a tiny smile, though she had already turned her attention back to Huey.
"Have you helped build a rocket, made stuff explode, discovered a new element?" he asked with excitement. (Y/n) laughed.
"No. Sadly not." she replied, a smile still on her face from laughing.
As they walked, (Y/n) dragged her hand along the side of the mountain. Soon, they were about halfway up the mountain.
"We had to swing across, narrowly escaping them!" Dewey finished telling about one of their expeditions.
"How much further is it?" Louie groaned, dragging his feet as the walked.
"Not much more, I'm sure, Lad." Scrooge said to the youngest of the triplets. There was a loud rumbling, and everyone quickly looked back to the source of the noise. (Y/n) stood there, looking at a secret doorway that she had accidentally opened as she was dragging her hand along the side of the mountain.
"I guess that's why nobody could ever find the gem." she said.
It was dark inside the cave, so everyone turned one their flashlights, which gave just enough light to see where they were going. It was a long time before they got out of the small tunnel. Along the way there wasn't much talking. (Though both Louie and (Y/n) screamed when they saw a spider, that actually wasn't that big.) The group eventually reached a large open area of the cave that was about in the middle of the mountain.
"There it is!" Dewey exclaimed, pointing at a Zircon gem, that was sitting atop a pedestal-shaped rock formation. He started to rush towards it, but was stopped by Scrooge. Dewey then looked down and realized that the naturally-made stone bridge across to the pedestal was very thin, and had several cracks in it already. A single wrong move, and the whole bridge would collapse.
"(Y/n), you seem nimble enough to get over there." Mr. McDuck turned to the aforementioned duck, "Do you think you could get over there?"
"Why can't I do it?" Dewey asked, looking displeased.
"Well..." Scrooge thought about how to phrase it, "You aren't always the most careful..."
Dewey only huffed in response. Scrooge turned back to (Y/n), "So?" he asked her once more, "Of course you don't have to, if you don't want to."
(Y/n) thought for a moment, "I'll do it."
