Chapter One °•The Hunt•°
The early morning sun dazzled my eyes through the small window my family was able to make using a piece of glass we discovered. At first I groaned and pulled the deer skin closer to my body, keeping the heat that had been building over night trapped. I knew I had to get up soon, beat the men and teenage boys to the woods before they saw me. I was the best hunter in the village and everyone knew it, yet the men wanted me to stay with all the other women just like we have been living for one hundred years.
Finally, I swung my feet out from under the pile of hides and sighed when my feet hit the cool dirt floor. With a small grunt I pushed myself off the bed and padded over to my leather trunk where I hid my hunting clothing and weapons.
I sighed in content as I slid the thick woolen socks over my frozen toes and pushed my feet down into my leather boots, pulling my pant legs down to cover them. I then threw on a thick sweater over my shirt and then my worn deerskin jacket to help blend in and keep out the frigid winter air.
As silently as I could I snuck through my house, my quiver and bow strung over my shoulder. As I opened the door a gust of cold, dry air met my face and caused my teeth to chatter. Part of me wanted to turn tail and dive back into my bed but the other part wanted to go and hunt.
After a brief mental battle I braved the storm and trudged through the freshly blanketed snow. I watched as my breathed clouded around my face and tried to make rings in the air but I had never learned how to. I adjusted my bow and arrows and kept walking through the small village.
Just as I had made it to the outskirts there was a violent jerk on my, perfectly braided, chocolate hair. I quickly grabbed my knife and spun around to face my attacker only to lower it and groan when I saw who it was.
"Derek Montgomery I swear one of these days I'm going to gut you on accident." I growled, though my emerald eyes held a playful glint in them.
"And one of these days, Morgan Witwicky, you're going to figure out that I'm the only one who pulls on your precious hair." he replied and flipped his own shoulder length hair.
I rolled my eyes at his gesture and placed one hand on my hip. "So what do you want Montgomery?"
"I want to go hunting with you."
"You know I hunt alone for a reason Derek. I'm not supposed to leave the village. And besides, you have to upheld the tradition of father son hunting."
He stepped closer to me when I said that. I couldn't help but blush when he did though it was easy to hide it since the harsh winds made my cheeks burn and turn red.
He was handsome and everyone agreed with that. He had uncommon, cobalt blue eyes with brown curls, the color of dried brush in fall. His cheekbones were high set and made his face appear longer than what it really was. I tried to ignore these factors since he was like a brother to me but it was getting harder and harder since I was now eighteen and he was nineteen.
"I want to hunt with you." he said softly and looked down at me with shining eyes.
"And I want to hunt on my own." I said just as softly then quickly reached up and gave him what I called the snake bite; it's when I quickly pinch his nerve in his shoulder so hard it instantly knocks him.
I couldn't help but chuckle as I watched him crumple to the ground then took off into the woods.
As I trecked through the woods I noticed that all the deer and rabbits had moved further into the woods than usual. I looked around and heard the voices of men come in my general direction so I was forced to start running and get away with them.
Since the snow was so thick this year I didn't notice a cliff looming before me until I slid over the edge and tumbled down the steep slope. I prayed to any god that was out there that I wouldn't die in any way or get injured to the point where I couldn't move.
As soon as it had started it was over and I landed flat on my back onto something hard. I stared up at the ashy sky with wide eyes as I gasped for the air that wouldn't go into my lungs. I've had the air knocked out of me before but not as bad as this. I had landed on something harder than the ground.
Eventually I got the air back into my lungs and rolled off of the object I had landed on. When I stood up and brushed myself off I looked at it and saw that there was yellow visible under the snow. Out of curiosity and perhaps a bit of stupidity I brushed off as much snow as I could and stepped back when I finally saw what it was.
This thing was made completely out of metal and had four black wheels made out of a substance I had never seen before. There was glass covering parts of it that resembled the window in my house but the edges weren't broken.
I cautiously tapped it with my bow and then backed up but nothing happened. I did this for about five minutes before I walked over to the door and slowly got in. The seats were made out of some type of leather as was the wheel in front of me. I saw something sticking out of the side and pulled it out to see that they were keys. Looking around before I did so I put the keys back in the slot then turned them.
Suddenly everything turned on and music blared from somewhere in the car. With a scream I jumped out of the object and drew an arrow and fitted it into my bow before I aimed it at the yellow thing. But it just sat there, didn't even move.
Just then the song ended and another one turned on causing me to flinch and shoot the metal thing. Just as the tip of my arrow pierced the siding the object began to pull apart and reconstruction itself. Before I knew it a humanoid creature with glowing blue eyes aimed what I knew had to be a gun at me. I let out a terrified scream and backed away from it only to trip and fall on my butt.
"What are you?" it asked in a man's voice even though it had no mouth.
"I- I'm Morgan Witwicky. I didn't mean to hurt you I didn't know what you were." I replied in a shaky voice.
"Witwicky? You're a Witwicky?" he questioned her almost excitedly, changing vocies as it did and put it's gun away and crouching down. "Where's Sam?"
I shook my head in fear. "I- I don't know who Sam is."
"Sam Witwicky. He was my friend."
Without saying a word I pulled out another arrow and shot it where a heart would be on a human. He simply looked down and watched as the arrow shattered on impact and fell to the ground, buried in the snow. "Nice shot, Katniss." it shrugged.
"Who, who are you? What are you?"
"My name is Bumblebee. I'm an Autobot."
