THIRTY-TWO

Harley Anderson

When I finally see his Mustang pull into the parking lot, I let out a relieved sigh. He parks right beside my car and when he climbs out of his and makes his way to me, I take note of the worried look on his face as well as the confusion.

"What's wrong?" He asks me, and I shake my head, pulling his hand to round my car.

"I don't know who the hell did it, why or how they did, but I found this in my car." I explain, opening the passenger door. Cameron frowns at me before looking inside. I watch him carefully.

"What the fuck?" He mutters, picking the doll up and standing to his full height. His eyes slide over the doll before he glances at me in worry and he puts the creepy item down. "Are you sure your car was locked?" He asks and I nod.

"Yes. I don't know how they got in. My car door isn't even damaged so they obviously didn't force it open." I comment and he purses his lips before glancing at my door that is indeed one hundred percent okay.

"Whoever did this knew what they were doing." He mumbles and I chew on my lip nervously. He turns to face me. "You have any idea who it may be?" He asks and I purse me lips.

So I've seen a hooded figure twice and I've stumbled upon two people who definitely made me think they were him. But then again, maybe it was a prank. Maybe it was just a coincidence and I was thinking too much of it. However, now that there's a voodoo doll of me in my car, I don't particularly feel like now is the time to be giving people the benefit of the doubt.

But then again, do I really want to make Cameron worry like this?

"Harley." I hear him press, his voice urgent.

I let out a sigh. "There's being this hooded figure who has followed me twice in the past two weeks. But I haven't seen its face."

"What?" He exclaims. "Why didn't you tell me?" He asks incredulously and I kiss my teeth before a blush creeps up my neck.

"I was preoccupied..." I trail off and he catches my drift almost instantly. I've being so focused on my relationship with Cameron that I've being overlooking something a little more serious- a potential stalker who is now making dolls of me.

Cameron shakes his head. "I'll give Frank a call and ask him if anyone else has being experiencing the same thing." He says and I nod as he closes my door.

"There's his car. Maybe he's still around here." I point out to Cameron and he glances at it before looking back at me with a frown.

"That's not his car."

I frown at him and look back at the car in the distance, remembering the day I saw him in it.

There's lots of other cars like that.

I nod to myself. That's true.

I shrug my worries off as Cameron picks up the doll. He pulls his phone out of his pocket and takes a picture of it before tossing it in a nearby trashcan. When he walks back to me, I give him a tight smile while I still feel uneasy and slightly frightened. Cameron takes note of my expression and clips my chin so that I'm looking up to him. His eyes dance between my own and he sighs.

"Don't worry about it Harley." He says and I nod, trying to make myself believe his words.

"It's just kind of creepy. That's all."

He nods. "I know but I'm here alright? So please tell me if something like this happens again."

I nod. "I will." Although I hope something like this doesn't happen again.

He gives me a soft smile, placing a light kiss against my forehead, which makes me melt, before pulling me into his chest. I breath his scent in deeply, it relaxing my muscles before I pull back from the embrace.

"You're racing tonight right?" I ask and he nods, his arms still firmly around my frame.

"Si."

I smile. "Then we should probably get going."

Cameron nods in agreement. "That's probably a good idea. I'll follow you home and then we can go together. That okay?" He asks and I nod with a smile, my eyes straying to his lips for just a second.

"Yep."

He grins before pulling away and climbing into his car while I climb into my own and drive to my apartment with my mind still racing with what just happened.

It seems that just when I think things are getting better, something has to come and throw me off again. Now I have a creepy stalker who doesn't only follow me but also breaks into my car and puts dolls- that look exactly like me- in it. And I really want to know who this psycho is because it's not exactly like I have a long list of enemies so I don't know who has it out for me. Perhaps that's the scariest part- the fact that I have absolutely no idea who the person is.

And I'm not too sure I'll figure it out.

The track is busy like usual-although this time it isn't packed with Scorpions- and I still find myself feeling a little on edge, no doubt because of what happened today. I stand close to Cameron who steps towards Clark, the man who manages the bets.

"Hello Cameron." Clark greets before looking at me and casting a smile. I return the gesture before Cameron hands him an envelope with all the necessary documents to bet on his car. Clark goes through them before putting it on top of a pile on his desk. The man tells Cameron who his opponent is before wishing him luck. We leave the room shortly after and head back into the darkening sky where Audrey, Caleb and Mason are all talking.

I start heading in their direction when Cameron takes me by the hand and tugs me in the opposite direction. I raise an eyebrow at him in questioning but follow him nonetheless, the feeling of my hand in his making me smile.
We round the building to his garage that has all his cars and after he greets the bouncer, he opens the doors and switches off the alarms.

"I thought you were betting your Mustang?" I ask as we both walk into the garage, our shoes squeaking on the shiny linoleum floors. Cameron shrugs.

"Not today. Today I'll be using my Camaro." He says, walking towards the silver beauty. I follow him towards it and watch as he opens the door to move his review mirror. "Open the hood please. I just want to double check the engine." He asks and I do as he says, popping it open before using the latch to keep it up.

I look at the immaculately clean engine and glance around to see if I can notice anything wrong with the car when I feel warm hands encircle my waist.

"It look okay?" Cameron asks and I nod, my eyes gazing all around.

"To me, yeah." I look at him over my shoulder before turning around to face him. He looks down at me with a smile and I lean against the car, my arms moving to rest around his neck.

"Thank you for helping me today." I feel the need to say and he smiles, his eyes focusing on my lips.

"You know what they say; actions speak louder than words."

I raise a brow at him and he leans closer so that his breath is fanning against my cheek. I smile up at him.

"Well someone is daring today." I tease and he laughs.

"I need a good luck kiss."

I giggle and shake my head. "You don't need luck." I respond and he scowls.

"So no kiss?" He pouts and I move my head from side to side before letting out a laugh at his pout. He moves his face closer and my breath hitches in my throat when I feel him brush his lips against mine. I close my eyes and lean in but don't feel anything which makes me open my eyes to see Cameron looking down at me in amusement.

I scowl at him. "You're a tease."

He chuckles before meeting his lips with mine finally and I enjoy the feeling of them against mine. My mind tells me that here isn't a good place to be doing this but my body seems to contradict that thought all together. When I tighten my arms around his neck, we hear another pair of shoes on the floor before a voice speaks up.

"Yo Cameron! The race is starting soon."

Cameron pulls away from me and turns around to the bouncer before nodding. "Thanks man."
The man nods before walking away and Cameron turns back to me with a soft smile before closing the hood of his car. We both climb in and he pulls out of the garage, the bouncer closing the door as Cameron pulls his car into the parking lot. He stops the car, the engine still on, giving me time to get out and I turn to him with a smile.

"Good luck." I say and his lips curl into a small smile. I open the car and climb out into the chilly air, everyone moving towards the lanes. I shut the door and Cameron pulls off in the direction of the lanes when I hear my name being called. I look to my left to see Audrey beckoning me over. I jog over to them and she throws an arm over my shoulder, dragging me to the race while giggling in my ear.

When I feel the weight of someone's gaze on me, I turn to see Ryan watching me. When I meet his eyes, he smirks before winking at me and I quickly look away before focusing my gaze on the crowd in front of us. There's something about Ryan that makes me so uncomfortable.

When the girl steps between the two cars and lifts up the flag, my mind focuses solely on Cameron and my eyes lift into a smile at the thought of our kiss mere minutes ago.

But I don't get to focus on it much longer when Cameron speeds off, leaving cheers in his wake.
