THIRTY-FOUR

Harley Anderson

It's beautiful and I can't help but glance up at the large building before we push the doors open. When we step into the room, I look around in awe.

Directly in front of us is a mahogany desk that has two ladies sitting behind it. The floor is tiled with dark wood, giving the room a sophisticated vibe while the lights that hang from the ceiling make it rather bright. In the right hand corner is a counter with a few waiters standing behind it and making coffee and small snacks. Women in beautiful dresses and men in suits sit at the tables, lifting cups of tea to their lips before they continue to chatter and laugh.

However, Cameron puts them all to shame with how undeniably sexy he looks in his tuxedo.

Cameron leads me to the counter where a pretty lady with slender features looks up to us with a soft smile. "Hello, welcome to The Latin Dancing Club. How may I help you?" Her words are tinged with an accent I can't quite place and I watch her curiously.

"Can I have two passes, please."

The lady smiles before tapping onto her computer and printing out two tickets from a printer that is connected to her computer.

"Would you like a pair of shoes?" She asks and Cameron looks down to my small court heels before nodding to the lady.

"Size?" She asks and he glances at me in question.

"Five." I respond and she gets up from her seat before walking through a door that leads to another room.

I take it as another opportunity to admire the place.

When I received Cameron's message earlier on about taking me on a date, I was beyond ecstatic. It means that we're finally acting on our feelings instead of just floating around. Then he told me to wear a dress- something I could move in- and I was beyond confused although I was no doubt excited.

I had opted for a simple attire but made myself look simplistically pretty and I was flattered when Cameron told me I looked stunning in Spanish.

I am beyond grateful that I took Spanish classes back in high school.

Then he had pulled up here and I cannot wait to start dancing. Latin dancing is a part of Cameron's culture and I'm honored that he's willing to show me more about it and allow me to see some of the good things he experienced back in Colombia. However, despite my interest and excitement to learn this kind of dance, I'm also nervous because what if I'm terrible at it? I don't want to be a complete flop in front of Cameron.

When the lady returns, she brings back a white box with her and hands it to me. I take it from her with a polite smile.

"You two can just head through those doors over there,"she gestures to a set of double guy doors. "Here's the passcode for locker number thirty-four where you can leave your stiff. Enjoy."

Cameron takes the piece of paper from her before we both make our way to the double doors that are muffling the sound of music. When we push through, I cannot help but admire the room. Numerous people- mostly couples- skate along the wooden floor that reflects the beautiful chandelier above it. Along the dance floor, that is defined by railings, is sets of lockers and a few seats for the dancers to no doubt take a break.

As we walk to the locker, I observe the people dancing. All of the ladies are wearing beautiful dresses and dance expertly with their partners. They look like professional dancers. I also notice that most of the people here are a lot darker than me, giving me an impression that majority are probably Latin themselves.

"Put the heels on so we can put your shoes in the locker." Cameron says and I nod before peeling my shoes off. I peek inside of the box and notice a pair of shiny gold heels. I take them out and glance up at Cameron.

"Why exactly did I need these?"

He chuckles. "They're specifically made for dancing and have special soles to make sure you don't slip on the floor."

My mouth forms an 'o' shape before I slip them on. They hold my toes perfectly with a strap and I tighten the other strap around my ankle. I stand up to check the comfortability of them and notice that they are indeed very comfortable.

I smile up at Cameron and he looks down at my feet in amusement.

Thank goodness my toenails are always painted.

He takes my bag from me as well as my shoes before putting them into the locker and locking it. He sticks his hand out for me.

"Are you ready?" He asks and I giggle, slipping my hand into his.

"Yes."

He leads me to the part of the railing that is open and we both walk onto the floor that other dancers use. The music that plays from the speakers is beautiful and definitely classic, set at just the right volume.

Cameron stands in front of me and I watch him curiously, having no idea what I'm supposed to do from here.

"I'm going to walk you through a dance called the Paso Doble, okay?" He asks and I nod before he reaches for my waist. He pulls me closer and holds my other hand in his before he starts moving. The feeling is foreign to me and as he instructs me what to do, I fumble with my feet to try and get them to do what they're supposed to

I glance at a young couple a few feet away from us who are seemingly doing the same thing before glancing back at Cameron and noticing how he does it so well. The way he moves his feet and moves his body to the beat demonstrates that he knows exactly how to do it.

I trip over my feet and I fall into Cameron, my head hitting his shoulder and I hiss out in pain, only to hear him laugh.

"I said step right, not left."

I give him a sheepish smile as I rub where my forehead hit his shoulder. "Oh."

He shakes his head at me before removing my hand and kissing my forehead. My eyes close on their own accord as I save the moment to memory. When he steps back he smiles.

"Again?"

I nod and we return to the first position we need to be in. My eyebrows frown in confusion as he instructs me what to do and I try and get it right however, it's almost like I have two left feet. I glance over at the same couple as the last time, thinking that maybe the reason I can't do this dance is because I've never even heard of it before, when I see the girl laughing at me unashamed.

Her partner twirls her around and she does it effortlessly in her high heels before hitting into his chest and looking at me with a smug smile and an arrogant hair flick. I slow down my dancing as I scowl at her.

So she's good at dancing- that much she knows- but it doesn't mean she has to rub it in to me. I know I'm not good at it but at least I'm trying.

"Hey, hey, hey." I feel Cameron pull my chin so that I'm forced to look at him. His eyes take in my dejected expression and he frowns, glancing at the couple that my eyes stray to before looking back at me. "Harley." He says softly and I glance at him, feeling slightly insecure that I'm horrible at this. I don't want to ruin our date just because of my inability to dance. "They're only staring because you look beautiful." He tells me, his eyes staring back at me in pure honesty and I exhale. "You're the most stunning girl here and if I wasn't the one with you, I would also be staring."

My lips curl up into a smile as I blush before I cup his cheek, feeling the slight stubble beneath my hand. "Thank you, Cameron." I say softly, my voice gentle and he laughs, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.

"You want to try again?"

I take in a deep breath and nod with a wide smile. "Yep. And hopefully I'll get it right this time."

Cameron responds with a laugh before we try again and this time I ignore the stares from the people around, enjoying the simple moment of dancing with Cameron while we both laugh and sneak a few kisses in.

****

I hand the lady the box of shoes before turning to Cameron with a wide smile.

After nearly three hours of dancing, we're finally heading home. To say I've had a blast would be an understatement because I enjoyed my date with Cameran so much that I can't help but beam brightly. Even though it took me a while to catch on to the dances, when I finally did it actually wasn't so bad. Cameron seemed to find my lack of ability amusing but didn't stop encouraging me to continue or stop letting me know that I was getting the hang of it. If there's one thing I definitely learnt from the dance was that it had to be filled with love, anger and chemistry to work. The movements were passionate, like you wanted to kiss your partner, but angry, as if you couldn't.

I've finally being able to see a little bit into what Cameron did back in Colombia and I take my hat off to him because Latin dancing definitely takes skill, patience and passion.

We exit the building and Cameron looks down at me with a smile to which I return the gesture before we return to his car. However, I don't open the car door and instead stare up at the sky that is glowing with stars. I've always felt like I can relate to a star- the way they try and shine in the darkness. That's all I've done my whole life- try and be the light in the never ending darkness that has followed me. Stars also have to collapse to undergo a rebirth and that's what I did- I collapsed. And here I am.

"It's beautiful huh?" Cameron interrupts my thoughts and I look to see his figure sitting on the hood of the car and looking up at the sky. I glance back at it and nod, taking a stand next to him.

"It is." I whisper, admiring the view.

"Thank you Harley." I hear Cameron say beside me and I look at him, turning to face him.

"For what?" I ask.

His russet brown eyes flicker back to mine and are wide with vulnerability. "For not judging me. For still being here after everything I told you."

A small smile graces my lips and I reach out for his cheek, cupping it. I stare back at his beautiful eyes.

"I'm not going to leave you just because you're a little flawed. Just like everyone else." I whisper, my words gentle and he chews on his lips.

"Serás mi novia?" He suddenly blurts and I feel my heart jump into my throat as I recognize the word 'novia' meaning 'girlfriend'. I suddenly feel hope build up inside of me and I raise a brow.

"Are you..." I trail off, not wanting to assume anything just to be horribly wrong.

"Asking you to be my girlfriend? Yes." He responds and my eyes widen before my face breaks into a grin. I press my lips against his and allow my body to feel like it's on fire when he moves his hands to my waist. When I pull back, I grin at him.

He raises an eyebrow. "Is that a yes?"

I giggle, rolling my eyes. "Yes it's a yes. Of course it's a yes."

His face breaks into a grin and he stares up at me, his eyes softening ever so slightly, making butterflies erupt in my stomach. He presses his forehead against mine.

"I'm never going to hurt you. I just want you to know that." His voice is soft and his words stir something in me. Trusting him with my heart is a risk and believing his words is an even bigger risk but I find myself believing him, trusting him, giving him full access to my heart and as much that terrifies me I couldn't be happier that it's Cameron I feel this way towards.

"I know." I respond softly, "I know."

I hope you guys enjoyed their date <3 I was so unsure about it at first because I didn't want it to be ordinary... like a dinner or something and then I remembered Cameron once telling Harley that he could Latin dance so I thought "this would be cute as a first date because it's a part of who Cameron is". Also, they're officially official! Thank goodness omg.

I've attached the dance that Cameron was teaching her if you don't know what it looks like. Obviously it's experienced dancers in the video so it's much more complicated than what Cameron was teaching Harley but I hope you guys get the idea of what the dance is like and what it looks like anyway.

Thank you all for reading! Also, don't forget that after next week's update, I'll be taking a short break from updating (no more than two weeks) simply due to my exams!
