Chapter Two
I woke up with my head leaning against Marsh's shoulder. I blushed and sat up quickly. Thank glob he wasn't awake. I could never let Marsh know I was so close to him... I got up from my spot and stretched.
I looked down at Marshal, he made no noise as he slept. His eyelids fluttering, showing me he was dreaming. I wonder what he's dreaming about? I saw his lips twitch, turning into a grin. He murmured something under his breath. Sleep talking? How cute!
"Is there something on my face?" He said more clearly, I felt a chill run up my spine and and my hair stood on end. I was caught! My face turning a darker pink and I began stammering. It was as if I was trying to speak yet I had no clue what to say.
My mind was blank and I couldn't think. He sat up now and gave me a weird look. I was embarrassing myself. He shook his head and started talking, "you said you needed to talk to me. " Thank glob he changed the subject.
"Ah, yes.." I started, trailing off. If I told him, I'd be trusting him a lot, and I was scared to do that. I looked up at him to see him raise an eyebrow as he waited for me to say something. Anything.
"I am..." no, I can't tell him the truth," researching into other cultures and social groups. It's a way to connect with more groups, as Prince it's my duty to understand my people." I laughed nervously, scared of how smoothly the lie came out. He stared at me for a few seconds before he laughed. "Why do you have to talk to me about it then?" He asked, I shifted on the balls of my feet.
"I need your help. I know nothing of parties. No idea where they are, what to do, what not to do, and I don't know the right people," I said, which was partly true. I could never admit that I had abandoned my kingdom due to fear, and I wanted to change to a party-kind of person.
He laughed again. "You? Little nerd always carrying his book bag? You want to party?" Ouch, that stung. He smirked," okay, fine. Yeah, I'll do it. First party is tonight with the bears." I sighed with relief, but panicked slightly. "Let's see your duds," he said suddenly, and I looked around the room, confused by his question.
"Duds? Clothes? What are you going to wear?" He asked, I reached for my book bag and opened it, spilling the contents on the couch. Marsh began to dig through the clothes before he looked up at me. His eyes were scolding and his lips were pouting, he shook his head and clicked his tongue.
"You need better clothes. If you really want to go to a party, we have to go back to my place and get you clothes," he said, he grabbed my arm by the long sleeve of my jacket and began to pull me out the door. He grabbed his umbrella and opened it before he opened the door and then stepped outside. The light was blinding, and I shielded my eyes. He wrapped an arm around my waist, my heart began to pound. Flashbacks of him reaching out his hand last night to help me onto the roof popped in my mind.
I began to blush and I bit my bottom lip, putting my hand up to my face and hiding a small grin. Marsh launched into the sky, I clinged to his shirt, but I knew he would never let me go. I knew I was safe in his arms. There were nights where I lay awake, imagining what Marsh's heart would sound like as he held me. I fantasized about his cologne and the way he smelt.
I would think what his fangs would feel like as they brushed my skin, and how his lips tasted. I wondered if I could also taste the colour red if only I could taste him. There was always a problem with my thoughts and wishes. I knew I could never experience them. I would always be left to ponder, because of who I was.
I would never be a girl. Marshal Lee wasn't attracted to guys, I had Fiona ask one time. He laughed, but still said no. I was forever going to have a crush on someone who couldn't bring themselves to love me back. And to be honest... I looked up at Marsh, he glanced down at me, smiling before he looked back at the sky ahead.
I think I'm okay with that.
