Chapter Two
Priscilla
I slept as sound as a bear hibernating.
Sitting in a black room with only a stool and a canvas. Hesitant, I walked over and sat with a thump. Staring at the blank, pale canvas, I felt a finger trailing down my back as I jerked quickly. "Draw, Priscilla, I'm waiting." A voice as smooth as water says behind me. Chills sent down my spine as cold as death when I felt a hand set on my shoulders and pushes me toward the canvas close by one inch.
"Wha-:" immediately, the voice responds again with anger boiling like hot bubbling water.
"Draw." He got closer and held my hand, following the strokes on the blank canvas turning into gulfs of overflowing colors.
"What? Who are you!" I hissed.
"Oh Priscilla, you know.. who I am." He sighs with his breath tickling my neck.
"I like your designs.. it intrigues me." His heavy, slow, footsteps circles around me.
I couldn't scan his face.. it's blank..
"Tell me, how did you get from this.. into this." He took out my first sketchbook and held it tightly.
Piece by piece, his face forms ever so satisfying.. into....
Oh no..
I got up with sweat surrounded all over my pillow.
My mom stood with a worried expression and held her purse firm and not stressed out.
"You were talking in your dream. Something wrong?" She pulled my up and ruffles my hair softly.
"Come on, you're getting picked up by me!~" My mom sings dashingly.
Lazy, I went to the bathroom and quickly finished. My hair tangled like knots on the bottom, I combed until I winced from the pain.
"Damn this, I don't care." I threw my comb and dressed normally trotting downstairs like a horse and stuffed my breakfast like a pig.
"Slow down slugger!" My father chuckled.
"Come on! We're late for your school!" Her heels clicked down the door and sped towards the car outside.
"Shoes?" She says it concisely and tilts her head.
"Shit." I muttered and rushed over to grab my pair of moccasins.
I finally skipped over to the passenger seat and closed it.
"Since you're homesick," I perked up, looking at my mom.
"Lets play a song, yeah?" She grins mischievously and blares the song until the car shook.
"Oh no mom.." I awkwardly laughed.
"Like old times??" She nudged my arm and smiles.
Anxious, I giggled a bit. "Okay.."
I lower the window down, letting all the music blaring. My mom and I singed to the lyrics from one song to another.
Goals.
She stopped by the school and waved a happy goodbye and drove away with a screech from the tires.
"Here we go.." I kept remembering my dream as I took a step on the stairs.
Step by step, I saw Wendy with Harry. Grinning, I sneaked and yelled, "HELLO!"
The two screamed like little children and held their books to their dear lives.
"Quit scaring us!" Harry's voice cracked.
"You look happy." Wendy smirks.
I only knew these people yesterday and they're making me a bit happier than before.
"I am..." I suddenly see Kevin with his friends striding inside as people moved to the side, glancing at them.
I rolled my eyes and huffed.
"They're acting like they're the idols." I grumbled, biting my lower lip.
Sighing, Wendy sets her palm on my shoulder and smiles.
"Come on." I followed her inside.
I placed my books on the floor and closed my locker, following Wendy to my first block.
"I'll be waiting for you." Wendy said.
I walked into my class and sat on my seat with a thump. Kevin looking at me and cocked a brow and suddenly took my sketching book.
Oh what's he doing now?
I gasped and furrowed at him.
"Give me my book!" I shout and rudely snatched my book from him until, he held my arm firm and took it again from my hand.
People in the class stares at him puzzled.
"Give it to me you nerve wracking idiot!" I snarled.
"Why would I?" He leans toward my face and flicked my forehead.
"YOU BUMBLING JERK! Hand it to me!" He held the book higher and flips through the pages staring at my artwork.
"You really have the skills." He mumbled.
Angrily, I snatched it from his hands.
"Okay class! We're going to start a new unit." Mr Calvin slams the assignment grades at the table and hands them out to each of the students until he handed mine.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, opening the paper with sweat cascading down. "Oh thank God." I sighed with relief.
"You got a B-?" Wendy shuts her locker and stares at me.
I nod with excitement and jumped lightly.
Sighing, Wendy locked elbows with mine and walked over to the cafeteria.
I scan at Kevin holding a racket along with his friends. He then noticed me glaring at him and raised a brow. He walks closer to me, handing the racket to one of them. Wendy looks at me worriedly and we hurried our pace.
Kevin bolted to me and held me firmly by the wrist, letting go from Wendy.
"What do you want with me?" I grumbled.
"Your sketchbook was laying under the chair." He hands it to me and stares at me closely.
Angrily, I shot out a deadly glare and huffed.
"What?" I almost rolled my eyes and bit my inner cheek.
"You're supposed to say thanks." He clears his throat and gave me a pale look.
"Why should I? I can find it by myself." I stuck up my nose like a peacock showing its pride.
"Without finding your book, you would've failed your Art class since your grades are all in there." His breath tickles my nose and left by letting go.
Wendy gasps widely and looks at him and back to me. "We need to talk." She grabbed my hand and sat down next to Breck.
His confused self looks at me and raised his brows.
"Is something going on??" He grins like a child and sets his palms on his face.
"Nothing." We both responded.
Kara and Harry looked at each other and shrugged.
I then got notifications from Reagan.
Reagan: Hey! It's been so long!
Reagan: hElLo?? You on?
Reagan: I need you girl! Come on Priscilla!!
I scan at the screen and quickly turned off my phone with the four cocking their brows of curiosity.
"Kevin found her sketchbook and gave it to her...." Wendy grins showing her dipped dimples.
"So? What's wrong with that?" Harry shook his head.
"He's an idiot." I huffed.
"Why? He didn't do anything to you." Kara and Breck smiled a bit.
"I just don't like the way he acts," I play with the straw of my drink.
"He's the elite athlete of the school. Everyone respects him and his friends." Breck nods and stole a fry from Kara's pack.
"Not that, everyone's scared of him since the challenges he does to others." I took a sip and fold my arms.
My eyes widened with an idea and grinned mischievously. "I'm going to challenge him to a game and if I win, I would force him to stop the ruthless jokes." Wendy rubbed her forehead and closed her eyes.
"Are you stupid?" You've only been here for two days and you're challenging him?" Harry bursts into laughter.
"It's been two days since the first day of school, you're making a mistake." Kara ran a strip through her hair and nudged Breck's elbow.
"Y-Yeah." He coughed into agreement.
"I don't care." I tap my chin.
After that, I thought for a bit.
My father came and I went inside of the car shutting it.
"How's your day?" He says it while driving.
"It's fine." I mumbled.
"When are you going to buy me a car?" My father stops by the signal light and looks at me.
"When we settle." He coughs.
"I know how to drive, let me use the car for tomorrow." He spat his water and glares at me shockingly.
"Carla's my life!" He rubs the steering wheel and gave a chaste kiss.
Rolling my eyes, I fold my arms and lower the window.
I suddenly see a nice looking car with familiar people, with familiar faces..
Wait, GaH! It's HIM
Kevin notices me and waved a cheap hello.
My nostrils flare and looked at him furiously.
My father tilt his head forward and cocked a brow. "Who's he?" He stares a concern look at me.
"He's a nobody." I huffed. My father nods slightly and opens the window down again.
"Hey! You!" He honks.
Kevin looked at my father and took off his sunglasses.
"You go to the same school as Priscilla?" My father shouts.
Kevin nods along with his friends.
"Dad!" I hissed.
"What?" He whispers.
I point and said, "Green light." I squeaked, covering my self at the same time.
"Why are you avoiding him?" He drove until we reached to our neighborhood.
"He's an elite athlete and a idiot who would take my stuff with out permission at school." I flatly replied.
"Really? You're just annoyed of him honey." My father scoffs and grins.
I got off the car and went inside with a flat annoyed expression and stomped all the way upstairs to my room.
Reading the texts again and replied back to Reagan's texts.
Me: Hey buddy! I was busy lately.. I've made new friends!
Not even one notification showed, I sighed and turned off my phone and set it by the nightstand.
Suddenly, my phone rung.
Surprised, I perked up and saw Reagan's name on the screen. Happily, I answered it.
"Hey Priscilla! How are you? You really made new friends??" She spoke faster out of excitement and gasped.
Chuckling, I said. "Yeah I did." I pick at my nails.
"Have you met cute boys there?" She laughs.
Rolled my eyes off annoyance and clenched my teeth.
"Well, not any cute boys. I hate the school."
"What?! I know you do but why?" Reagan squeaked.
"There's a group of elite athletes and they represent the schools' soccer team." I croaked.
Reagan paused for a moment, and began to squeal. "Seriously?? That's amazing!"
"No, No! Not amazing! They challenge others to a game and if they loose, they get the worst dares of all like running a mile with your underwear inside out around the school and more." I ran through my hair and fold my arms behind my head.
"Everyone wants to be in their team, by challenging them to a game of soccer or other sports." I raise my voice loudly.
"..... That's salty, no offense." Reagan says it seriously.
"I know right? It's just.. they're so.." I couldn't find any words to say, speechless.
"What's their names?" She asks.
" I know one of them, he's the captain." I rolled my eyes.
"Ooh say it!" Reagan whispers childishly.
"Kevin Davidson." Immediately, I hear Reagan squealing at the other line.
I held my phone a bit farther and put it on speaker.
"Really?? He sound cute!" She purrs.
I cringe at her voice and felt chills down my spine as cold as death.
"Forget that, I want to tell you something." I bite my lip and stood up.
I explained of my dream from this morning and waited for her response.
"Maybe it's just you're not having enough sleep or it's just stress?" Her voice went higher, confused.
I exhaled and pinched the bridge of my nose, wondering of what to do.
"Yeah you're right." I sighed, staring at the window.
"Tell me, why do you hate so much about this..Kevin?" In the backgorund on Reagan's line, I suddenly hear her eating something.
"Today, he took my sketchbook and kept staring at my calligraphies." I ruffled my hair and laid beside my phone.
"And then I forgot it after class and he brought it to me! From what I've heard, he'd never does that." I squeaked a high pitch and sighed.
"He's so damn tall and has perfect grades." I scoffed.
Reagan pauses a moment, hearing of what I've said and snickered.
"You like him." She says it concerned.
I immediately flustered with shock written all on my face.
"No! I DON'T." I growled.
"Okay. It's getting late, let's talk next time, yeah?" She yawns.
I checked the time and realized it was almost midnight about a minute away. Eyelids heavy, I turned off my phone and got ready to sleep.
It was Friday, I walked lazily to my algebra class and rubbed my eyes tiredly.
Kevin sit across by me and stares at me with a disgust look on his face as I hiccuped. I then looked at him and bit my inner cheek with anger boiling in my veins.
"Why you're looking at me for the goddamn fifth time?" I roared intensely.
"You look tired peanut," I scoffed at his response and felt steam coming out of my ears.
"I'm not peanut!" I squealed.
"You are one, a tiny little brat." He rolled his eyes and opened his textbook to the assignment for the day.
I grumbled under my breath and kicked his shin. He yowled from the pain and his face as red as a tomato. "Stop that or you're getting it."
"Getting what?" I mocked.
Suddenly, Mr Calvin stood infront of us with his nose flaring like a buffalo.
"LAST WARNING." He says it creepily and hisses like a snake added with venom.
"Fine." We both responded grumpily. Lessons after lessons, class has finally ended. I arrived at art and saw Harry doing something so focused. Curious, I tiptoed closer and sat by him.
"Whatcha doing?" I grinned.
From the strokes of his pen, he sets it down staring at me with his soft blue eyes. " A Picasso of you." He smirks.
The different shapes from triangles to circles were well drawn around the face. Astonished, I took it from his hands and gasped placing my palm on my chest excitedly.
"It's so beautiful!" My mouth shaped into an O.
"I knew you'd like it." He softly smiles.
He's so sweet.
"Since I haven't did anything to you yet, I will and it's a surprise." I put my hands on my hips sticking my nose up like a peacock showing its pride.
Silenced, Harry chuckled. "Okay." He pats my shoulder and fold his arms.
Mrs Olivia came in with essentials of fruits in two bowls
"Okay guys, we're going to draw two bowls of fruit so get your brushes and start painting!" She claps her hands and warmly smiles.
Each one of us began painting on the canvas ever so calmly and focused until the bell rung.
The rest of us got ready to leave and saw Wendy waiting for Harry and I.
Her eyes glistened brighter until stood tall of my way to her. Harry curiously cocks his brows and tilts to me.
"Why's he here?" Harry scoffs.
"I-I don't know why." I clenched my fists and huffed.
"If he's challenging you then don't worry! I got your back, all of us do!" Harry stood brave and boasts loudly.
Harry's so sweet! I just wanna hug the life out of him right now.
But I know Kevin doesn't want to challenge me.
But why?
I moved away from Kevin and he appeared infront of me.
"What the hell do you want?" I pushed him.
"Come with me." He held my wrists tightly, I struggled to let go and follow Wendy but he then got hold of me again.
"Hey! Leave our friend alone!" Harry spits of anger.
"Why?" He scoffs.
"If you don't let go then we will beat you up!" Harry stood bravely.
Kevin tilts his head at me and back to Harry, clenching his jaws until it boldly appears so neatly. He then scoffed.
"Guys? Get rid of him." He snapped his fingers.
His friends appear from the hallways and dragged Harry all the way down.
Harry shouts, "DO NOT WORRY! I WILL GET YOU PRISCILLA!" As his voice fades.
People stopped and stared at him being dragged by Kevin's friends down the hallway until they disappeared.
"I swear to God, if you don't let me go, you'll pay." I growled.
Suddenly, he laughs. "Oh peanut, that's not going to happen. With your tiny hands, I won't feel a thing." He smirks.
He changed.
Literally.
Confused, I shook my head. "What do you want?" I asked.
Kevin sucks in his breath and exhales loudly.
He held my wrists and dragged me until we reached to the very edge of the school and opened the door outside.
"My teacher would be wondering where I am." I felt defeated and tired from walking too much.
"I told him you're coming with me," He shots back.
"To where?" I raised my voice loudly.
"To our team meeting room." He annoyingly bites his lip and stares back at me.
We then arrived to another building and he taps the door rhythmically until a moment passed. The door opened.
"Come." He puts his hands in his pockets and waltz in.
I squinted at him untrusting and shook my head.
"I don't want to." I shouted.
Kevin stops and grabbed me by the collar of my shirt and dragged me to a huge neatly indoor field with soccer balls all over the place.
"What are you standing for, follow me." He says threatening me with his voice full of venom.
"It's already lunch." My stomach awkwardly grumbles.
"I'll buy you food outside." He sighs.
I perked up and cocked a brow, smiling devilishly.
"And??" I smirked.
"What?"
"Desserts as well." I tap my foot on the ground.
Kevin clenched his jaw and looked back to me roughly.
"....FINE." He shouts.
We continued walking into a room where chairs were neatly organized, tables all at each spot and one soft couch.
"The others will arrive." He swallows thickly and collapsed on the soft couch.
I stood still, watching his spreading his legs to the length of the sofa, I closed my eyes and heard the door opened with a click.
His friends arrived and grinned when they saw me.
"Peanut is here!" The brown haired boy chirps happily.
"YOU DO-:" The other one interrupted me.
"Better watch your language peanut." The bulky one scoffs.
"Okay, meet my friends from the team. The only three whom I trust and loyal to. Bryan, James And Peter." The three waved.
"Why am I here? I was promised food and I'm waiting." I put my hands on my hips.
The four looked at each other and laughed.
"Nice one," Peter wraps his arm around my shoulders.
"Wait, I'm not joki-:"
"Why you're here is because we're looking for a person to become a mascot." Bryan, the bulky one speaks.
"..... What do you mean?" I tilt my head.
"A mascot," Kevin repeats.
"Unfortunately, our last mascot quit for unexpected reasons and we're looking for one whose bold and boastful, like you." James scans at me from head to toe.
"Plus, she's the perfect size!" Peter chirps.
"Um... heh, nice try." I laughed.
The four looked at each other concerned and back to me.
"What? You're serious." I laughed even more.
"Yeah, we are." Peter's curly headed nod quickly.
"I go to algebra, art, history and chemistry. I don't want to become a smelly mascot." I stuck up my nose.
"Okay, then, I'm challenging you." He says it venomously.
The three looked at Kevin with a shocked look as their eyes widen.
"You're insane, we're supposed to ask her politely." Bryan shouts.
"SHUT UP. I'm your captain and I have the right to say that." Kevin roars.
The three gulped and stared at me.
"I'm not doing your stupid challenge." I fold my arms.
"It's just a mascot costume! We will just find another person whose small and can fit in it." Bryan says it clearly and bold.
"Nope, she's doing it and if she loses the challenge, you have to do anything what I say or what I want and also be the mascot. If you and your team wins, then you would never become one and I won't disturb you." Kevin cracks his knuckles.
Hesitant, my hands trembled as I gulped and sighed deeply.
"Okay, I accept your stupid challenge." We shook hands.
"You'll regret it." James pinched the bridge of his nose and shook his head slowly.
"Better be ready at Tuesday at three sharp." Kevin says it under his teeth.
"Come on guys." The three followed him and left, closing the door with a thud.
My stomach growls loudly than before, I ran upto them and yanked Kevin by his arm. "What?" He said.
"The promise?" I fold my arms.
Sighing, Kevin nods. "Come on." I went in his car along his friends and shut the door.
"What's she doing?" James cocks a brow.
"I promised her food." Kevin ignites the car into life and began driving.
"Umm.." Peter scratched his head and peered at the others.
"Really? School is already over for the day, just let her grab her stuff and we can pick her up." Bryan lowers down the window as the winds blows softly on his hair. I shrugged and opened the door when we arrived to the enterance.
Suddenly, Wendy sees me. She sped towards me and held my hands shockingly. "What did he do to you?? Kara and Breck were worried of where you've been." She blinks rapidly and tilts her head, looking at Kevin's car.
"You're getting picked up by them??" She scoffs, surprisingly.
"I'll have to explain to you tomorrow, come to my house. I'll text you my address." I whispered and took all my stuff and waved a quick goodbye to her.
"Oh-Okay." She squints.
I went inside the car and Kevin hits the gas pedal, moving ever so soothingly when I look at the window. The heat, the sun shining all it's light and cars all packed up at the signal lights.
"Which restaurant do you want to go?" Kevin sighs heavily, rolling his eyes and looks at me. "I'd never tried In-N-Out Burger before." I tap on my chin.
"Okay, then In-N-OuT it is." Peter's blue eyes brighten and hoots.
We arrived at the drive thru and waited for a moment, the lady speaks in a bright happy tune. "Welcome to In-N-Out Burgers, how may I help you?"
"I would like five cheeseburgers, two large fries and five milkshakes please." Kevin speaks politely.
"Okay! That will be thirty-two dollars and fifty cents." The employees replies.
"Why five burgers?" I tilt my head sideways.
Peter furrows at me teasingly and laughs. "Not only you, all of us." He wrapped his arm on my shoulders and punched me lightly.
We then got our food and began to take a humongous bite and took a sip of my coke. Kevin shivers from the slurping of my drink. "You're have a huge appetite for a small girl." James choked a laugh and Bryan's chortles got Peter cackling.
I frowned and wiped my face. "And you have a small appetite for a tall person." I clicked my tongue. "Okay, about yesterday, was that your father?" He grins mischievously. I almost roll my eyes and shot, "Why do you even care?" I pout.
Silence spreaded throughout the spacious car.
Oh crap, my parents.
"My parents!" I choked on my beverage and quickly turned on my phone.
My jaws dropped, more than twenty messages appeared on my screen as I swallow my sandwich awkwardly.
Ten voice message, two missed calls and eight messages in total.
I quickly text her back.
Me: Mom, I'm busy after school for classes. I'll be there don't worry.
I turned it off and felt Kevin's chocolate eyes looking at me in the mirror.
"Show me where you live, I'll tell them why." He sighs.
I nod slowly and bite my inner cheek. "Turn right, keep going straight until you reach a neighborhood and turn to your left." I squeaked.
Minutes passed, he finally stopped at my house and opened the door as I followed the four to my doorstep. I took a deep breath and knocked.
Seconds, the door opened by my mothers furious glare. "Where have you been??" She taps her foot on the ground.
"How long your father waited for you was more than an hour." She speaks calmly.
"And who are they?" She suddenly smiles and cocked her brow curiously.
"They're... one of the school's soccer team." Sweat cascades down and I played with the hem of my shirt.
My father pops behind of her and laugh so happily. "It's the guys from yesterday!" He smiles until wrinkles form.
"Come in! I'd like to know you guys!" My mother was speechless and turned to my father gritting her teeth and sucked in her breath, exhaling in defeat.
"Fine," Kevin stares at me and back to my parents grinning as the four went inside.
"Come on Priscilla!" Peter smirks.
"Uh.. Okay." I walked inside and closed the door with a click.
