what's wrong?
When Davina was little her mother had a spiritual awakening — or at least that's how she called it — and join a cult — Her mother called it with a more... Friendly name but Davina even as a child knew what a cult was and the thing that her mother join was definitely one —
His father hadn't being happy about it.
Specially for the fact that her mother not only left him to join to a new religion but she became one of the spiritual wife of the cult leader who was younger and more handsome than his dad.
A fucking crazy punk his father call him.
In her defense her mother did try to take her and Don with her but by that time Don was older enough to know that anything that had the word cult on it couldn't end well, specially not on Gotham so he refused, and Davina?
Well maybe for the first time her dad, brother and Lela were on the same side, there wasn't a fucking chance that they'll leave Vina go with her mom and become a fucking hippie.
Not long after that her Bro left for good and her dad became a workaholic and got a slightly better job and they moved to a better place on town.
In the end her father prohibited her to have contact with her bro and mother because they were bad influences for her.
She still saw her bro because he care for her even if they didn't longer live together.
But her mom...
She send some letters on the beginning but after a couple of years well... They just stopped, and Davina totally got it.
Being on a cult couldn't be easy so she probably was to busy to write, or use a phone or visit at all.
Dad live with her and he barely saw him anymore so...
It was fine.
Davina was too busy anyway with school and everything.
Yes, she was busy.
So she didn't felt bad on the mothers day with the other children making cards for their mothers, of course not.
She also didn't feel sad when other kids where picked by their mothers after school and she had to walk the whole walk home — an empty one — on her own.
And she totally didn't feel disappointed every year on her birthday when not a single letter would come with his mother signature on it.
She was fine.
Completely and totally fine.
In Gotham City there were hundreds of family more dysfunctional than her's so she should be feel thankful for what she had.
Anyway.
The last thing she knew about her mother is that she was fine and happy in her cult so everything else was fine.
When you loved someone all you ever wanted for them was their happiness even when it hurt you — right? —
Even when you were forgotten and you felt like crying most of the time for no apparent reason.
But that was okay because all that keep her in the path of knowing Dami and finally — Finally for the first time on her whole life — feel like she was enough for someone.
To the point where she hadn't really thought about her mom in a very long time.
Not until now.
"Your mom is death" said his dad on the phone.
Usually it was Davina who called him to make sure that he was still alive and well so she was really surprised when she saw his name in the ID of the call.
"What?" She asked confused.
"Her cult committed mass suicide, you can see it on the news, I always knew that they were crazy, I am glad that I didn't let your mom take you with those bastards" Her father say with a calm tone that Vina had heard him use several time for work calls. "Anyway there's going to be a funeral in a couple of days, I'll sent you the information if you want to go" he added before saying that he had to come back to work and end the call.
Davina just look at her phone for a while and then watched the hour, she still had classes to go so she should be going.
Her mom was still going to be death after class so there shouldn't be a problem.
None it all.
.
The first thing that Damián noted when he entered his apartment was the sweet smell of fresh cookies and muffins.
Davina was cooking.
That wasn't odd, since she liked to cook but she only ever cooked so many sweets when she felt stressed for something.
Did his classmates where given her a hard time with the group projects again?
In the moment that he entered the kitchen and saw more sweets that they'll could possible eat he knew that something was terrible wrong.
The only time that he watched Vina bake this much was before he went to a very dangerous mission and had to leave for almost a month.
"Vina?" He called and he watched her turning around with a big pie on her hands.
Oh this was way more worst than he thought.
Vina didn't like things way to sweet, and a pie wasn't something that she liked a lot so if she made one it could only mean that she was feeling way more distress than he originally thought.
"Dami! Welcome home" she said with a smile leaving the pie on the table. "I made some sweets, and the dinner is already made and ready. You should go and wash— Dami?" She asked when instead of leaving for the bathroom Damian walked straight to her and put his hands softly on her arms.
"Habibati" he called her with an over sweet tone, looking very patient and calm.
It didn't felt like Damián and it made her feel like she did something wrong.
"What's wrong?" He asked and Davina felt confused.
"Nothing?" She answered confused until Damián gave her a pointed look and that felt more like Damián and now he was watching the table and...
Oh...
"I did all that?" She asked watching the too many sweets on the table, she didn't even realize...
"Yes, and I would like to know why" he asked and Davina couldn't really think about a reason why she did so many swee—
Well there was something that was bothering she guessed.
"My mother died" she said softly feeling like the words weren't hers, like someone else said them.
"I—" Damián tried to say something but he truly didn't knew what to say.
All she knew about the woman was that she left Davina when she was little to join a cult, and even when his own mother wasn't the best example of a good mother Damian still knew that she cared on her twisted way for him.
Davina's mother?
Was undetermined in the best case.
Should he say that he felt sorry? What he was supposed to say in this situation?
"It's okay, I am with you and I am not going anywhere without you" he said because that was the only thing that he could think and apparently was the right thing because Vina was hugging him really hard and even when she was not crying this was close enough for her.
He hug her tenderly and kissed her head with care, whispering sweet words on her ears. This was all he could do now and he could only hope that it was enough.
