Chapter 1 - Essentials
You can do lots of things in nature - go hiking, camping, mountain biking, and many other fun stuff. There are some things you should always have with you though;
-Water. This is the most important thing. You need water to survive (obviously) and you can get overheated in the warm summer heat as you build your fort. You should pack the amount of water according to how long you'll be gone, how many people, and the intensity of the heat. If you're right outside of your house, though, just run in if you get thirsty and grab some water.
-Pocket knife. You may not always need it, but it is useful. If you like to cut wood, can't open a soda can, or need to cut your nails while camping, this is for you! There are some very simple ones, containing only a knife, cork opener, and perhaps some scissors, while more complicated versions include several knives, a can opener, a small saw, an awl, and whatnot.
-First aid kit. If someone gets injured, you may need a band-aid or disinfectant. Things can get pretty nasty in nature, although it may look beautiful.
-Flashlight or Penlight. If you are camping and it gets dark, and suddenly you need to use the outhouse or forgot where that bag with your phone is, a flashlight is handy to have.
-A Phone. If an emergency happens such as someone breaking their leg or getting lost, call 911. Make sure where you are there are other people or at least reception.
-Poison Ivy antidote. Have one at home, and bring it with you if you are camping. Poison ivy and poison oak can get pretty nasty. There will be a chapter about poison ivy and oak, and ways to get rid of it.
And again, comment on the PREVIOUS page if you have an idea. If you comment elsewhere, I may not see it.
