Belladonna didn't care about what any of the hobbits of the Shire thought of her. She liked to go on adventures and to climb up in the trees, looking for elves. And no one could tell her that she had to settle down. She would just run off and go on new adventures. Her mother tried to calm her down but her father, a Took, told her that their child was just full of life. There was nothing wrong with that. But her mother feared there would be no hobbit who would like to marry her daughter if she kept acting that way. And she did want a grandchild. So, things had to change. One night, Belladonna and her mother sat down at the kitchen table. Belladonna was around 25 when this happened.

'Dear,' her mother started, 'you need to calm down and start doing respectable things. There is no need for you to run around anymore. It was nice when you were a young hobbit, but people are talking about you now. We can't have that, can we?' And her mother thought that the talk would settle everything. She couldn't be more wrong. The next morning her parents couldn't find her but her father did found a letter on her pillow. He smiled and grabbed his pipe, sitting himself down on a chair outside his house. 'Aren't you worried about our little girl?' his wife asked panicked. But he just chuckled. 'She will be back when her adventures are done.'

And Belladonna did return. She brought back many stories which made her mother faint and her father couldn't be more pleased. Everywhere Belladonna went she would tell the other hobbits about her adventures. Normally she would only get some disapproving glances, but one time, a male hobbit from Bree stopped to listen to her. There was something different about this girl. Of course he didn't know a single hobbit who liked to go on adventures, but there was something else as well. She had the most beautiful smile and her eyes lit up when she talked about her adventures. So he stayed close to her to listen to her stories.

Belladonna noticed that the boy found her stories interesting and she turned all her attention to him. Soon after that first meeting several hobbits saw them talking together on various occasions and different locations. It wasn't a surprise to the Shire, nor Bree, that the two started courting after a few months.
