Waspstar is an intelligent, stubborn, and loyal cat. However, he also has a short temper, and lashes out at any cat when he's upset, angry, or in deep thought. Waspstar is strong-willed, determined, and strict, not giving any chances to cats that have betrayed him or broken the warrior code. He feels that he can't become too close or rely on any cat, since it makes him feel weak. His ambition may drive him to do dangerous things, such as going off on his own or performing a risky task.

Waspkit was born to Foxlight and Leafblaze with his brother Snakekit. He had a relatively calm kithood, spending time with his brother. He adored his father, Leafblaze, but could never seem to get close enough to him. He didn't pay much attention to Foxlight, who was very kind and sweet, but also cautious and more of a "scaredy cat." Leafblaze was very abusive toward her behind the scenes, and said that if she ever left him he'd kill Snakekit and Waspkit.
Wasppaw eventually became an apprentice, mentored by Swallowstorm. He was quite tough and hard on Wasppaw, but the newly-made apprentice didn't really mind. Snakepaw was apprenticed to Hazefire.
During his apprenticeship, Wasppaw grew closer to his father. Leafblaze helped train him when Swallowstorm let him rest, and he learned many battle moves and strategies from him. By spending so much time with his father, Leafblaze began to tell him how Foxlight had emotionally abused him and how she was a terrible cat. Wasppaw, taken aback, still listened and never looked at his mother the same. Since his brother spent more time with Foxlight, Wasppaw also began to drift away from him. However, they still did train together. They just didn't have the same bond.
After a few more moons, Wasppaw aced his apprentice test and became a warrior: Wasptail. Snakepaw, however, cheated on his test and was held back for three more moons. Wasptail didn't want to be seen with his cheating apprentice brother, so he completely cut off all contact with Snakepaw.
One day, Wasptail visited his mother. She was a lovely dark ginger she-cat, white streaks stretching up her legs like socks. She had a thin tail and calm blue eyes, looking like they held storms inside. He asked Foxlight to go into the forest with him, and began to tell her that she was a terrible cat, and began to blame her for everything she'd done. Foxlight didn't know how to defend herself, and Wasptail left her by saying, "I don't love you and never have." He went to Leafblaze after, unaware how much he'd broken her.
After another several moons, Snakepaw became a warrior. His new name was Snakeleap. Wasptail, still under the influence of his father, never really spoke to his brother anymore.
On a normal cloudy day, Wasptail wandered into the forest to find his father. He heard arguing and grew interested, following the voices. He covered his scent as he hid in the bushes, realizing that Leafblaze and Foxlight were arguing. After a few more seconds, Leafblaze lashed out at the she-cat and tore open her throat. She gargled on her blood, crumpling to the ground as Blood former around her body. Leafblaze had no regret or remorse in his eyes. He showed... no emotion at all. Horrified, Wasptail darted back to camp and stayed in the warriors' den for several days, hardly coming out for patrols. Foxlight's death was blamed on a badger.
Leafblaze seemed to notice the Wasptail now ignored and snapped at everyone. He took an interest in his other son, Snakeleap, and began talking and helping him out. Wasptail saw this and was angry, but Snakeleap never listened to him when he tried to talk to him. Eventually, he gave up hope.
Wasptail eventually gathered the courage to ask his father to take a walk with him. As they padded by the river, he so badly wanted to ask Leafblaze why he'd killed Foxlight. However, just thinking back to his mother's death, he grew angry. So angry, in fact, that he quickly overpowered his father and knocked him out. Wasptail threw Leafblaze in the river. Everything was a blur to him. He'd never meant to kill his father; he did, however, and had to live with it.
Wasptail decided to run away. He left EchoClan and wandered the outskirts of the forest, taking a lot of time to think to himself. He was a bit hurt and angry no one, even Snakeleap, had come after him. However, he enjoyed this alone time. After much more pondering, Wasptail eventually decided he had to return home. It was the only place he fit in.
Upon returning, not many cats greeted him. The leader at that time, Harestar, pitied Wasptail and gave him an apprentice: Pricklepaw. Snakeleap was also given an apprentice named Acornpaw, which forced the brothers to work together.
Out one day training the apprentices, a fox came across the four cats and killed Acornpaw. Pricklepaw ran back to camp to get help as Wasptail and Snakeleap attempted to fight the fox. It was eventually was driven off, but Snakeleap was consumed in grief. His apprentice had died. Pricklepaw eventually became Pricklepelt.
Wasptail felt horrible for his brother, but found an opportunity to finally grow close to him. With both of their parents deceased, they now only had each other. However, Snakeleap pushed everyone away, and Wasptail wasn't sure what to do.
Finally, he asked his brother to take a walk with him. In the middle of the forest, Wasptail told Snakeleap everything: about how he'd watched Leafblaze kill Foxlight, about how Leafblaze had lied to him, and about how he killed Leafblaze for murdering their mother. Snakeleap, shocked, hurt and confused, stumbled away, Wasptail too shaken with grief to follow.
When Snakeleap didn't return, Wasptail got the strength to go after his brother. He emerged out of the treeline and watched as Snakeleap stood near the edge of the river, looking in. Wasptail realized what was going on and he ran to Snakeleap, begging him not to jump. When Snakeleap asked what the point of life was anymore, Wasptail managed to convince his brother to keep living. Snakeleap stumbled to Wasptail and the two embraced each other, finally becoming the brothers they should have been all along.
They stayed out in the forest all night, talking as true brothers. When morning came, they returned to camp. They found out that the deputy, Mothspring, died in his sleep, and that Harestar was getting ready to choose the new deputy.
That might, Harestar called a Clan meeting. He announced Wasptail as the deputy. He was shocked and confused as to why his leader chose him, but he accepted his new role anyway. Wasptail turned to Snakeleap, seeing that his brother was hurt, angry, and jealous.
The two again grew apart. Wasptail was angry since he'd saved Snakeleap's life and his brother didn't seem to even appreciate it, but Snakeleap was angry because he hadn't become deputy. The two often argued but mostly avoided each other.
Wasptail was called up into Harestar's den one day by the medicine cat. Harestar lost his last life due to old age and Wasptail went to receive his nine lives. Leafblaze was not there, and he was quite happy about that. Wasptail became Waspstar, leader of EchoClan, and returned home.
Over several more days, Waspstar had to think of who he'd choose as deputy. Lilybark was the new medicine cat, and he was happy to be working next to such a great cat. However, Waspstar wasn't sure who he could work with as a deputy; finally, though, he came to the conclusion.
Waspstar announced Snakeleap as the deputy, and assigned several apprentices to several different warriors; one of those apprentices was Flickerpaw, the first victim of Archangel, and the end of peace for EchoClan.
