The Last
This chapter ended up being way longer than I expected, which is why it took so long. Sorry about that! On the bright side, it's here, and it's a big one! The chapter is really different by the time it ends. With that said, enjoy!
Waking up was certainly unpleasant, especially when it was to Marina literally dragging me across the floor close to the door, yelling, "If this is what it takes to wake you up, then may as well!"
She didn't even notice I was awake until we were by the door, at which point she said, "Oh, you are up. C'mon, let's go. We have to do something now. Don't make me drag you, Hano."
I let out a yawn and then tugged my foot away from her to then sleepily say, "Can't you wait, Marina? What is it about Arceus that makes you so eager to stop him?"
She stopped for a moment, pondering the question, and then seemingly ignored it completely and pried open the door, continuing, "Well, you better come. I'm not waiting forever. Let's go get those plates, and get rid of Arceus once and for all." Something was different about Marina, I could tell. Had Cresselia told her something in that dream that Darkrai didn't bother to tell me? I couldn't tell at the moment, but perhaps it was close to her. I'd have to ask later.
Hesitating for a moment before I fluttered my transparent wings and hovered into the air, I completely opened the door to see the morning sun up ahead in the ocean, just beginning to rise. I guess that explained why Marina's mother wasn't awake at the time. With enthusiasm Marina slipped through the door, and with reluctance I did, too.
As we went outside again, I briefly looked at the house again before asking Marina, "So, do you even have a plan for where we're gonna go, or not?"
As confident as ever she replied, "We're going back to Poni, southwest from here. Cresselia told me Necrozma wanted us to go there. Darkrai told you that, right?"
I had a sneaking suspicion of something like this. Did it really affect her that much? Before I could ask, though, she leaped into the ocean waters, and I sighed as I followed along with it.
As we traveled throughout what I've heard is called Melemele Sea, I got a telepathic message from out of nowhere. As usual I didn't know who sebt it until I heard it speak, "Hello there, this is Necrozma. If you've gathered all the plates you can from each region, return to Poni Island. You can destroy them there, while I hold off Arceus. Good luck to you all."
Marina stopped swimming so fast and turned around to say, "You got that message too, right?"
I responded, "Yeah, I got it, I think most mythicals did."
She started panicking and sputtered out, "We have to hurry! Come on, we can't be late!"
As much as I hated to admit it, Marina was right. As I tried to catch up to her zooming above the ocean, a bright light shone down from above, catching me by surprise and making me look up to see what it was. Soon, the bright light split into several, and as I realized with horror why this seemed so familiar, I screamed out, "Marina, swim! We need to get out of here!"
Marina slowed down to say, "What's the rush now? Why are you in-" but got cut off by the Judgement that was now raining down on us.
I yelled out, "Arceus found us! We need to go!" Even though I was barely audible over the raining beams, Marina clearly got the message, and we both both to speed away as quickly as possible. In desperation, I sighed with relief as I finally caught sight of land, likely Poni Island. Unfortunately, it didn't last. Letting my guard down for a few seconds, I could do nothing as searing pain unlike any I've felt before flowed through my body. It was indescribable. I could feel the godly wrath of Arceus from even this one attack.
I've been through pain before. It's happened plenty of times back when I was human, although those memories were foggy at a moment like this. Besides that, I had only recently felt pain in my sparring matches with Kingdra. But this was on a new level entirely. It hurt, too much for me to fully describe. The light faded as soon as it came, yet the burning sensation caused by it was still there. As much as I tried, there was nothing I could do as my vision became little more than a blur, and I started spiraling out of the air. Hitting the water only served to hurt even more, and I finally gave in to the darkness consuming my vision as I allowed unconsciousness to take its grasp.
My eyes were still closed upon waking up. I wasn't sure if I was still alive at the moment, but judging from how I felt awful and my skin still felt a little soggy, I took that as a yes, which was an enormous relief. It took a full minute for me to finally open my eyes, and when I did I started coughing up plenty of seawater. Voices around me soon started to yell, I was assuming about me, but my hearing still wasn't exactly the best. When my vision cleared up, I noticed that some blood was oozing out of me, except that it was green. I suppose that was a side effect of being a plant.
I looked up to see a large pile of broken shards of Arceus' plates, along with a few unbroken ones, and the sun high up in the sky. There were a few mythicals around here, and who else but Mewtwo was standing over the plates, simply staring at them. Suddenly I was shook violently, and when I was thankfully let go, it was of course Marina saying, "Ah, you're awake! I was so worried!"
I turned around completely to her and replied, "Are we are at Poni Island, I'm assuming? What happened, Marina?" I couldn't make much sense of the situation from a quick look around.
Marina with a smile said, "Yeah, we're at Poni. You nearly drowned in the ocean, and I had to carry you over here, Hano. You were close to critical condition, because I don't think that plant body of yours can take in much seawater." She hung her head down and continued, "I guess you were right."
Confused, I asked, "So who else helped me? I couldn't have recovered that easily."
She then said, "It wasn't just me. Mewtwo here was the one who confirmed you were in danger. He had to use Heal Pulse to help you recover from both Judgement and the seawater. I think he's why Mew was gone the time we were trying to defeat Necrozma. She was trying to get him to come."
I nodded, and then slowly, I floated up into the air and went to Mewtwo. He turned around to me, revealing Mew to be in front of him, talking. While Mew went quiet, Mewtwo asked, "What exactly do you want?" He seemed to be a little upset.
I then replied to him, "I wanted to thank you for healing me, Mewtwo. I'm really glad you did that for me."
He sighed, and said, "Mew was the one who made me come here. I've heard Arceus was the one who did this?" As I nodded again, he said, "I knew I couldn't trust him. That's why I agreed to come here. Maybe he'll get what's coming to him."
I looked back at Marina and said, "What exactly did you have to go through to save me?"
Marina then said, "As soon as you fell I turned around and went through the light beams to get you." Shuddering, she went on, "It was a little hard swimming while carrying you, but I did it." She ended her sentence with a smile.
Thinking how hard that must've been, I said, "Why do that for me? You're rather reckless, aren't you?"
She laughed and then said, "I guess you could say that. You're a legend, just like all of us. We can't just let you die again, not after Celebi stopped Dialga so recently. Besides, I have you to thank for regaining my memories."
I grinned upon hearing this, only for a loud voice to yell, "Long time no see, Hano!" I think I nearly had a heart attack when I heard this, and I looked around wildly to see, unsurprisingly, Mew. I guess it had been a while. She then turned around to say, "You too, Marina!" to said pokemon who was glaring at her. Mew then breathed in and continued, "I'm sorry about earlier when I erased your memories. I had to do what I had to do. I didn't do anything to stop you because you willingly went along with it. Hano, on the other hand..."
I shifted around somewhat nervously while both of them stared at me. I slowly started, "I did ask for that, didn't I? This is in the past, right? The issue's been resolved now. I really would rather not dwell on it." Marina dropped the issue, but she didn't seem satisfied just yet. With that I continued, "By the way, Mew, what were you doing while we had to deal with Necrozma?"
Mew piped up, "You remember Mewtwo, right? He looked lonely once we had to leave. I felt bad for him, so I tried to convince him to come with us, at least until I remembered Necrozma. Then I came back to Mewtwo, and he finally listened to me. He's still somewhat distant, but I think he'll do great!"
So Mewtwo wasn't lying. That was good to know. Remembering the main reason we came here, I announced, "So what are we to do about Arceus' plates?"
Mew then said, "Oh, yeah! Come over there!" and promptly flew over to the large pile of shards left behind. Without hesitation I followed and so did Marina. The area seemed somewhat barren now, as it looked to be only the three of us and Mewtwo. Mew then continued, "We've destroyed most of the Plates by now. The only ones we've yet to find are the Dread Plate, for the Dark type, and the Pixie Plate, for the Fairy type. I wonder where they went?"
As it would turn out our answer came to us. A streaking light slammed into the earth near us, and a huge cloud of dust and rumbling tremors resulted. Deeply startled, I quickly flew over to see what happened, only to find Necrozma lying there. His crystalline body had been cracked, and his glow was a little faint. He only groaned as I looked up to see the presence above him, revealing Arceus, staring down at his victim. He was furious, and the ring surrounding him was alternating colors, between a haunting black and a bright pink. Looking around with worry, more mythical pokemon were coming over to the crash site only to stare in horror at Arceus. Marshadow and Mewtwo even looked a little anxious, but they were still more enraged than scared.
Without warning, Arceus suddenly looked up and bellowed, "So this is what has become of your so-called "savior"! Even with the Plates shattered he could not defeat me, and there is little hope for all of you. I suggest you yield now. I may leave you all unscathed. If not, the consequences will be severe." Lots of thoughts were racing through my head now. What were we supposed to do here? Was there really nothing we could do? No, Arceus had still been greatly weakened. As a group, Arceus could be taken down. There was little left for us to do but try.
Before I could respond, though, Mewtwo yelled out, "This was coming to you, Arceus. I saw who you really were before everyone else. It's finally time for you to step down, or we'll make you."
Arceus laughed in response and then replied, "You insolent fools. You've brought this upon youselves." He then yelled as he looked up and shot a beam into the air. The Judgement split into various black and pink beams that showered down on us, making me fly into the trees out of panic, while I saw Mewtwo throw an Aura Sphere at Arceus, who only grunted in response. Marshadow and Victini joined the fight shortly after, slamming into Arceus fearlessly, who then roared and shot a Hyper Beam all around him.
Zipping around through the trees to dodge the Hyper Beam, I could now see Jirachi concentrating an attack by the sidelines, her third eye flashing, while Mew and Shaymin flew high up above, firing a barrage of attacks at Arceus, who resisted as easily as before. Mewtwo now blasted a massive array of attacks at Arceus, who in fury made the ground under him erupt with overflowing energy, both Mewtwo and Marshadow being struck by the Earth Power. Soon even Marina joined, firing her own water attacks at Arceus, as well as Diancie, who kept her distance and provided support for all of us. Even with everyone here storming Arceus, though, he showed no signs of tiring.
At this point I was less frightened than I was annoying for just hovering by the side and doing nothing. I needed to do something, especially with how long it had been since I've used an attack. Considering Arceus was currently a Dark type, Psychic would do no damage, so my only option was Energy Ball. Floating back to avoid another Judgement, I felt some of the energy of the many trees surrounding me. Although there wasn't as much of it as before, I still tapped into the energy, feeling a green sphere forming between my hands. Drawing in more and more, the sphere only widened until I had a good Energy Ball charged up.
Silently gazing at Arceus, who was on the midst of felling Shaymin with Overheat, I knew I had to wait fir the right moment or this effort would be wasted. Growing scared as Arceus looked to be pushed back near me, I convinced myself this was the right time and flung the Energy Ball over to him, hitting him right in the eyes. He screamed in fury, blinded for the moment, while I finally flew out into the open, seeing Marshadow jump up, his hand covered in a dark energy, only to bring it down onto Arceus, causing the Pixie Plate to fall out beneath him. Quickly Diancie destroyed the Plate with a well-timed Moonblast, causing Arceus to screech in pain and strike Diancie with a Solar Beam.
Now that Arceus was a pure Dark type, with only one Plate left, the fight was easier. I quickly let a few seeds pop out of my antennae and land near Arceus, the Leech Seed wrapping around him as he struggled in vain. Watching the crippled Necrozma now as the other pokemon continued attacking Arceus and Leech Seed filled me with vitality, I was a little surprised to see him open his eyes a little and sluggishly build up a Dragon Pulse. Arceus quickly noticed this and tried to stop the attempt, only for Jirachi's Doom Desire to come into effect and cause Arceus to scream and flinch.
This was exactly the distraction Necrozma needed to fire his Dragon Pulse, the attack easily hurting Arceus now that he had lost his Fairy type. Without hesitation I threw another Energy Ball, and everyone else attacked as well. There was a huge explosion now, and when the smoke cleared Arceus had finally fallen. He simply looked at Necrozma a final time before closing his eyes peacefully. Everyone now gathered in the crater without a word, and without opposition Marshadow stood up on top of Arceus again and brought down his shadowy palm, the Dread Plate flying out. Marshadow now leapt up and with the same attack smashed the Plate into pieces. Arceus briefly twitched before falling back into his slumber.
With that Mewtwo stood over Necrozma, and a light energy escaped from him and was absorbed into Necrozma, the Heal Pulse sealing his cracks and making him shine brighter. He now rose up to wordlessly stare at the sight lying before us that was the defeated Arceus. The fight was finally over.
