CHAPTER 60

The mumble of the news broadcast radiated from the holographic screen hovering above the coffee table positioned in the center of the arrangement of sofas and chairs in the common room. The kitchen and bar being in a space connected to the common area, the morning news could be heard clearly as Denzyl prepared breakfast for the sleepy human who had just walked into the common area. Devyn released a yawn that was held as the cutest thing in the universe by the man that turned from the skillet to watch his love meander to the bar with drooping eyes.

"Good morning," the demon greeted sweetly.

"Morning," Devyn returned with a smile as he walked around the bar and wrapped his arms around the demon's waist. The human let out a long breath and basked in his love's embrace. "You got up early today," Devyn mumbled into Denzyl's shirt as the demon held him lovingly.

"Mm, I didn't want to wake you," Denzyl returned sweetly.

"I don't mind waking up early if it's with you," Devyn responded before snuggling into the demon even more to hide the flush that had rushed to his cheeks. Denzyl's lips curled into a smile as he looked down at the man buried into his chest. Denzyl brought his hand up to Devyn's head and began to run his fingers through the human's soft brown hair. "Would you not rather wake up to a hot meal?" The demon inquired as he continued to pamper the man in his arms.

"Well..." Devyn lifted his head to look up at the demon; the two males' chest remained flushed together. "You're the hottest meal, so..." The human could not bring himself to finish his sentence and resorted to burying himself back into the demon's chest. Denzyl's brows raised at the human's answer. He had not expected Devyn to respond in such a way, but it was delightful nonetheless. The demon smirked as an idea came to his head. "Well then, would you like some of this hot meal after break-"

"Denzyl, it's burning!" Devyn's eyes widened when he heard the demon's attempted inquiry. The human took advantage of the demon turning to check on the perfectly toasted slices of bread to slip away and retreat to the safety of the refrigerator. Denzyl's tongue found itself poking the inside of his cheek as he looked down at the not-burnt food before turning to see Devyn scurry to the cabinet after retrieving a pitcher of freshly squeezed orange juice.

Devyn could feel the demon's eyes on him as he set the pitcher of juice on the counter. The human cleared his throat in attempt to disappeared the heat that was stationed in his face as he reached up to grab a cup only for a sudden warmth to appear behind him. "Did you think you could fool me?" Denzyl's deep voice caused Devyn to freeze in his place. The human resumed reaching for a cup as he answered, "It worked for a second or two."

Hands around Devyn's waist spun the human to face the demon as Denzyl leaned down to be a breath away. Devyn was awestruck by the man in front of him. Denzyl had leaned forward to rest his hands on the counter behind Devyn, affectively blocking the human's escape route. His crimson hair hung in front of his stormy eyes that were gazing down on the human with a heated love. Devyn swallowed when he saw the look in Denzyl's eyes. The demon's eyes flit down to the human's luscious lips as he said, "You haven't answered my question."

"Y-y-you didn't really finish the question, so-" Devyn's sentence was cut short when Denzyl wrapped an arm around the human's waist and pulled him into his body. "Shall I finish it for you, then?" Denzyl's voice was low, and Devyn's heart raced at his words. "That-that's not really necessary. I kinda got the gist," Devyn responded. The human was not aware that for the entirety of his and Denzyl's interaction, he could not take his eyes away from the man leaning toward him. Devyn was completely and utterly mesmerized by Denzyl, and Denzyl knew it. So, without further ado, Denzyl held Devyn's chin to steady the man before placing his lips over Devyn's in a sweet kiss. The human immediately melted into the demon's kiss and happily allowed Denzyl to taste him, his eyes fluttering closed when Denzyl wrapped his arms around the human's waist.

"And I kinda know your answer," Denzyl said to the human seductively after pulling away. Devyn's breaths were deep as he gazed up at his love. "You sneaky devil," Devyn teased while giving Denzyl a side-eye before turning back around to continue his mission of retrieving the cups from the cabinet. Devyn could hear Denzyl give a small snicker behind him before reaching up and grabbing three glass cups.

"Thank you," Devyn smiled at the demon when Denzyl set the glasses on the counter. A small peck on the lips rewarded the human for the 'thank you' before Denzyl returned to the now-burnt toast. Devyn could not stop the small chuckle that escaped his lips when he saw the demon replace the burnt toast with fresh slices of bread.

The mumbling from the news anchor in the holographic screen in the common area caught the human's attention when he set three glasses of fresh orange juice onto the bar. Devyn turned to face the screen and released a breath when he saw the header for the news that was currently being covered. "Today is the date that has been set for the trial of former CEO Wil Kossen for the brutal assault dealt to his fiancé, CEO of Vaumyr and Co., Devyn Vaumyr. The causation of Kossen's sudden degradation of mind remains unclear. Will this be uncovered in the trial today? Is Kossen truly guilty? Who is the real perpetrator? The trial will last two days; the first day beginning at ten a.m. this morning. Stay tuned for-"

The news anchor was halted when the demon deactivated the screen. Denzyl had had enough of her ramblings. He could not believe the news was insinuating that Devyn was the guilty party and that Kossen was the victim. Devyn turned from the direction of the common room to see a fuming demon. Knowing Denzyl was ready to cut some throats, Devyn walked around the bar and reached behind the demon to deactivate the stove top to keep the second attempt at toast from burning before reaching up and taking Denzyl's face in his hands.

Devyn directed Denzyl's eyes to look at him before standing on his tiptoes and placing a sweet peck on the demon's forehead. Denzyl's eyes moistened as he looked at the man standing before him. Devyn had done no wrong. He endured years of torment only for the blame to be turned to him. "How could they-" The demon was halted by a peck on the tip of his nose before he felt Devyn's soft lips on his.

"Not everyone is dumb enough to believe the news," Devyn assured the demon after pulling away. "Plus, I'm pretty sure you had accidently switched to a tabloid. Everyone knows their news is for those who don't have an interesting life and feed off the emotionally arousing news the tabbies spin-off from the actual news channels.

"I still don't like how they painted Kossen as the victim. That monster was anything but." A low growl accompanied Denzyl's statement, portraying his displeasure. Devyn wrapped his arms around the demon's neck and brought Denzyl's face down to his. "The good news is," Devyn began before placing another small kiss on the demon's lips, "nothing they say will matter after the trial is done tomorrow, so stop fretting over what people say and make me some eggs, hm? I got really hungry from hearing all that nonsense."

Denzyl's tense expression turned into a sweet smile as he looked down at his love who was doing his best to cheer him up. "As you wish," the demon responded before stealing another kiss and going to retrieve six eggs from the refrigerator.

The delicious smell of cooking eggs and buttered toast accompanied Devyn as he prepared three seats at the bar with utensils and plates before retrieving a bowl containing a variety of fruits and setting it between the three places at the bar. A ding from the elevator sounded as Denzyl topped the slices of toast with a sauced egg and slice of bacon each before transferring the plates to the bar.

Miren let out a yawn when she stepped into the warm and welcoming penthouse. The smell of a hot breakfast cooking and the first rays of the morning sun created the perfect atmosphere in the human and demon's love nest. The redhead's heart swelled when she saw the couple making breakfast together. "Good morning!" The female greeted, grabbing the two lovebirds' attention."

"Morning, Miren," Devyn greeted happily as he scurried over to the device stationed on the bar and began playing soft music in the background.

"Is there anything I can do to help?" Miren inquired as she set her purse on the sofa nearest the elevator before making her way to the kitchen.

"Could you help Denzyl with the pancakes?" Devyn asked on his way to the refrigerator to grab the maple syrup.

"Of course!" Miren answered before rolling up her sleeves and joining the demon at the stove top.

It was not long before a beautiful spread of eggs benedict, fruit, pancakes, and fresh orange juice was arrayed on the bar. The demon and humans' hearts were light when they took their seats at the bar and began to enjoy themselves to a delicious breakfast before rolling up their sleeves and tackling the trial that was ahead of them.
