CHAPTER 58

Peace and warmth filled the human as Devyn slowly woke. The human's emerald eyes opened slowly to see the man holding him sleeping soundly. Denzyl's chest rose and fell lazily as he held the human in his arms. A smile came to Devyn's lips as he reached out and gently swept a loose strand of hair from the demon's face, his light touch unintentionally awaking the demon. Denzyl's eyes remained closed as he breathed in deeply and pulled Devyn closer until the human was flush against his chest.

"Morning," Devyn greeted the demon softly.

"Good morning, Love," Denzyl responded as his hand traveled to the top of Devyn's head, and he began stroking his long fingers through his love's soft, brown hair. "How do you feel?" Denzyl's voice was quiet as he held the human in his arms.

"Like I want to stay here with you forever," Devyn voiced sleepily and snuggled into the man holding him. If Devyn had to choose, that was his favorite place in the entire universe: safely wrapped in Denzyl's arms. He would give anything to remain in his love's embrace. "Why do I have to be a CEO?" Devyn whined cutely as he closed his eyes to shut out the rising sun and buried his face into Denzyl's chest.

A soft chuckle resounded from the demon in reaction to the human's adorable whine. "You don't have to go if you don't want to. No one is forcing you to stand witness."

"They just haven't summed me yet. They will eventually. That's why I agreed to do it ahead of time: to skip the long, drawn-out process," Devyn responded as he enjoyed the pampering he was currently receiving from the demon. As if on cue to the CEO's words, the device stationed on the nightstand sounded with an incoming call from Devyn's secretary.

The human released a small groan as the demon reached over and activated the device, accepting the call. "Mr. Vaumyr," Astrid's voice greeted Devyn through the device.

"Hello, Astrid. What is it?" Devyn replied as he rolled back into the demon's arms. Denzyl returned to running his fingers through the CEO's hair as Astrid responded, "A summons for you has arrived, sir."

"Is it a witness summons?" Devyn inquired of his secretary.

"Yes, sir. You have been subpoenaed to appear at the trial. I have arranged for you to meet with your legal team at fourteen hundred today."

"Very well. Thank you, Astrid," Devyn replied as a conclusion to the conversation.

"Of course, sir," the secretary voiced before ending the call. The device went silent with the concluding of the call, leaving the two alone in comfortable silence. The demon and human were quiet as they lied in each other's arms and soaked in the other's love and presence.

The couple remained in the other's embrace until the sun had fully risen. Devyn let out a moan as he opened his eyes to see light filling the bedroom. It was time to get ready. The human placed a peck on the demon's cheek before rising from the bed and going to the closet to pick out his outfit for the day. The CEO selected a long-sleeved, collarless, dark grey silk shirt and comfortable black slacks. After loosely tucking the shirt into the slacks, Devyn transferred to the bathroom to style his hair and finish his preparations.

Denzyl was dressed in black pants with a similar shirt when he entered the bathroom, only the shirt was a dark forest green and the top three buttons were open, revealing a hint of the demon's pectoral muscles. Devyn smiled at the demon as Denzyl came to stand beside him and began to style his hair. The small distance between the two did not last long as Denzyl came to stand behind the human and pressed his lips to the back of Devyn's neck.

"Do we have time for this?" Devyn inquired through the mirror as he lifted a brow at the demon. Denzyl responded by sucking on the human's ear. Devyn kept his brow raised as he turned in the demon's arms and looked up at those stormy orbs. "I have a meeting at ten," the human reminded the demon as he draped his arms around Denzyl's neck. The demon smiled down at the human as he said, "Don't worry. I'm not going to make us late."

A slight side smile came to Devyn's lips as he pulled down on the demon gently and brought Denzyl's face to be a breath away. "I'll hold you to that, Avex," Devyn said in a low voice as he pressed his lips to Denzyl's. The demon was quick to reciprocate the kiss and brought Devyn's hips to be pressed against his, extracting a moan from the CEO.

Devyn's hands slid into the avex's crimson hair as the demon deepened the kiss and brought his hands underneath the human's thighs. In the next second, Denzyl had lifted the CEO onto the counter and was nipping at Devyn's long, craned neck. Devyn's body began to heat in reaction to the demon's touch, however, a notification that the elevator was en route to the top floor sounded from the device on the nightstand, alerting the couple to a third party's presence.

The demon and human froze as they heard the notification. Devyn hopped down from the counter and went into the bedroom to retrieve the gun from the middle drawer of the nightstand. Denzyl stood in front of the human as he cautiously opened the door to their room. The demon and human slowly advanced down the hallway as the elevator arrived at the penthouse's level. Devyn raised his gun as the lift came to a stop.

Only three people now knew the code to activate the elevator: Devyn, Denzyl, and Miren. There was no digital or physical trace of the code, so if the passenger was not Miren, that meant something had happened to the woman. Devyn was prepared to shoot as the doors opened. Much to the two's relief, red hair was the first thing they saw.

"Woah, woah! Devyn!" Miren exclaimed as she immediately raised her hands upon seeing the weapon in the CEO's hands. Devyn released a breath as he lowered the gun and turned the safety back on. "Sorry, Miren..." Devyn apologized as he and the demon stepped back to allow the female into the penthouse.

Miren's expression fell as she realized Devyn had unwillingly invited that monster into his home many a time through the elevator. The woman did not hesitate in bringing the CEO into her arms and comforting the young male. "It's okay. Don't apologize. I'm sorry I came unannounced." Miren let out a silent breath as she felt the man relax in her arms. "How are you?" The woman's voice was soft as she inquired on Devyn's condition.

"I'm good," Devyn replied as he stepped out of the woman's arms and went to stand beside Denzyl. The human took the avex's hand as he brought the demon over to the female. "Miren..." Devyn tightened his hold on Denzyl's hand as he began, "I owe my life to Denzyl. He saved me and cared for me."

Miren fell silent as she listened to the brown-haired. She could sense Devyn wanted to tell her something important, so she nodded for him to continue.

Devyn took a breath before he continued, "I don't want you finding out from someone else or through something traumatic."

The woman lowered her head as she caught the man's drift. "I know, Devyn," the female said, stopping the CEO from saying anything further. "I had suspected for a while now, but...Denzyl...you're a demon. Am I right?" The human turned to face the demon as she voiced her assumption.

"I am," Denzyl replied with a nod.

"Okay," Miren returned as she pursed her lips. The redhead then turned to Devyn before saying, "I understand why you did not tell me, and I appreciate your concern. But, I have only respect for Denzyl. He has only protected and cared for you. There is no reason for me to be prejudice against him." Miren approached Devyn and took the CEO's free hand as she said, "I am happy for you, Devyn. You've found love, and I do not wish for anyone or anything to take that away from you."

Devyn's eyes glistened as he looked down at the woman. Devyn had been terrified of Miren's response upon the realization that Denzyl was a demon and was extremely relieved at the woman's approval. Miren had been a mother, sister, friend, and mentor to Devyn. She had been the only one who knew Devyn until he met Kilo, Castyr, and, of course, Denzyl. She practically raised Devyn into adulthood and was there for him every step of the way. Miren's approval of the man Devyn loved meant the world to him.

"Thank you, Miren," Devyn said as a tear escaped the corner of his eye. The woman smiled up at the CEO and cupped his cheek affectionately before turning to address the man standing next to Devyn. "And thank you, Denzyl, for loving Devyn. I could not wish for a better person to love him." The demon bowed his head slightly in thanks to the human as Devyn leaned into him. "Now, what are the plans for today? I came as soon as I heard what had happened," the woman said as she dried her eyes and took a step back from the couple.

"I have a meeting at ten with the board and am meeting my legal team at two," Devyn informed the woman. "I have been subpoenaed as a witness."

"Okay," Miren replied with a nod of her head. "Shall I join you?"

"Please," Devyn answered with a small smile.

"Very well. What are we waiting for, then? Let's go tear some shit up."
