CHAPTER 48

Miren led Kilo to a car parked just outside the station and opened one of the doors in the back for him before taking the driver's seat. Kilo was gentle as he set Castyr in the car. The angel took the seat by the door before bringing the star to rest against him.

"So Devyn said that you two are going to stay low on Mythos for a while," Miren said as she started the car and joined the traffic in the street. When there was no response, Miren looked toward the back through the overhead mirror to see Kilo making sure Castyr was comfortable. Cute.

Noticing the dark circles lining Kilo's eyes and that the angel's face was still extremely pale, Miren rummaged through the glove box when the vehicle came to a momentary stop and pulled out a revitalizing drink. "Here," Miren said as she reached her arm to the back and gave the drink to Kilo who politely accepted it. "It'll help you get your nutrients and energy back." Miren did not know how Kilo had come to be so weak, but the female did not press as the angel had just gotten Castyr back after watching the star die in front of him.

Devyn told me most of what happened and asked me to get them to Mythos, so I will.

Miren had received the CEO's message a few days ago and had been staking out the space station in an attempt to find the angel and his star. The woman was extremely relieved when she saw the tall angel wandering through the crowds; Miren feared she had missed them as she had been staking out the station for a few days already.

"How are you feeling?" Miren glanced back at the angel through the mirror to check on him. Kilo looked up to meet the female's eyes and nodded to let Miren know he was feeling better. The human let out a small breath of relief before changing lanes and turning left toward Viant.

Kilo was silent for the remainder of the drive to the sky-reacher. The angel stepped out of the vehicle as Miren parked in the company's garage beneath the tower and scooped the star into his arms as Miren stood from the driver's seat. The human took the lead as she and the angel entered the company and bypassed the floor with the nightclub.

Miren took Kilo and his star to the back of the tower and up the elevator to floor 34. "Get some rest and build up your energy. We will leave in six hours," the human told the angel as she unlocked the door to room 3412. Kilo nodded in acknowledgment of the woman's words as he carried Castyr into the room. "I'll have food and fresh clothes brought up to you."

"Thank you...Miren," Kilo thanked the woman quietly. Miren nodded in return and smiled softly before setting the key card on a nearby table and closing the door behind her.

After the door clicked shut, Kilo carried Castyr to the bed and gently laid him down. The angel took off the star's bucket hat and slipped the mask off from behind the sleeping male's ears. Castyr looked so small before Kilo. The captain removed his cap and mask, got on the bed, and took the star into his arms. Suddenly, Castyr was the little boy who would lie in the garden and dream about the world. But Kilo felt the star's muscular form in his arms, saw the silver-haired sniper's face and remembered the battles and challenges Castyr had been through to become who he now was: the star who gave his all to protect the ones he loved, to protect the universe.

The sounds of Castyr's breathing becoming strained and the tensing of his body brought tears to Kilo's eyes as the angel watched the electric light surge across the star's body once again. This time, the lines were thicker and faster and much more painful. Castyr began to groan and move restlessly as his body grew unstable. Kilo took Castyr's hand as the star clenched from the pain and immediately covered the star in his energy.

A tear fell on the star's head as the angel held him tightly. "Castyr, please...hang in there."

"Kilo?" Miren voiced the angel's name as she knocked on the door for the nth time. "Kilo???" The woman began to panic as no response came. Setting down the food and clothes, Miren took out the master key and opened the door to room 3412 before rushing inside.

"Kilo!" Miren hurried to the bed to see Kilo and Castyr lying side by side, the angel's hand lying limply beside the star's.

A faint glow covered both males, but if one was not looking for anything of the sort, one would not have noticed. "Kilo!" Miren shook the angel's arm, but it was to no avail. Scrambling on the bed, the woman rested Kilo's head in her lap. "Kilo?" Miren voiced as she patted the angel's face. Finally, the angel's purple eyes opened slightly, much to Miren's relief.

His lips parted, but only a strained whisper came out. Miren leaned down to catch the angel's words. "...Castyr...how...is he?"

The redhead looked at the star to see him sleeping peacefully. "Castyr is okay. He is still unconscious, but he looks better than you do."

"Is he...in...pain?" Kilo's voice was quiet and strained as he inquired about his star.

"No," Miren said as she shook her head.

A sigh escaped Kilo's lips as he closed his eyes and relaxed.

"Kilo, what happened? Why are you so weak?" Miren inquired as she grew concerned for the angel.

Kilo remained silent to the human. Instead, he opened his eyes and turned his head to look at his star. The angel reached out and took Castyr's hand as he saw the star was completely still. Miren noticed dried tears on Kilo's turned face and realized something must have happened. Assessing the situation, Miren assumed Kilo was using his energy to somehow keep Castyr stable. Wow...what love...

The woman gently laid Kilo back down before returning to the door and bringing the food and clothes inside. Grabbing a bottle of water and the closed bowl of soup, Miren went back to the waning angel. Setting the soup on the stand, Miren sat on the bed and helped Kilo sit up against the headboard.

"Here...drink this," Miren said as she opened the bottle of water and handed it to the angel. Kilo downed the water before accepting the bowl of soup from the human. "Does Castyr not need any food or water?" Miren inquired as she looked over at the sleeping star.

Kilo shook his head in response. "Castyr's body can sustain itself while he is in the neutron state."

Miren was quiet as she took in Kilo's answer, happy that the angel's voice was coming back, as quiet as it still was. "...And you...are helping him stay stable?" Miren asked as she took a shot at her deduction.

Kilo was silent as he nodded in confirmation.

"What happens if he-" The human stopped her words when she saw Kilo's face. Kilo did not want to think about what happened "if." There were too many "ifs." Kilo knew what would happen and was doing his best to keep it from becoming true.

The angel and human sat in silence as Kilo finished the soup and ate a slice of gourmet bread. Miren took the empty bowl from the angel and picked up the bottle before standing from the bed. "Take a warm shower and get some rest. You need it," the female suggested gently as she left the angel with his star and exited the room.

Kilo sank into the bed as the door clicked shut and released a breath. The soup from Miren had helped the angel gain a lot of his strength back, so he decided to take a shower. Kilo swung his legs over the side of the bed and set his feet on the ground. However, the angel stopped himself from standing as an uneasiness entered his stomach. Kilo did not want to leave Castyr alone even if it would be just a few minutes, so he picked the star up and carried Castyr to the bathroom.

Kilo filled the tub before carefully removing Castyr's clothes. Leaning the star against his chest in the warm water, Kilo began to bathe himself and the star. Castyr's breathing remained stable throughout the bath. He even seemed to relax with Kilo's touch, especially when the angel washed his hair.

The angel moved his hand down from the star's head and rested it on Castyr's heart. Tears touched Kilo's eyes as he felt Castyr's slow and steady heartbeat. Leaning down, Kilo kissed the top of the star's head before wrapping his arms around his love's body and holding Castyr closely.

After gently cleaning their bodies and removing the remaining blood stains, Kilo lifted Castyr from the tub and wrapped him in one of the bath robes that was folded on the counter. The angel changed into one of the fresh sets of clothes brought by Miren and quickly towel dried his hair before blow drying Castyr's hair and changing the star into the second set of clothes.

The angel and star slept for three hours before Miren knocked on the door, signaling it was time to leave. Kilo put his and the star's hats and masks back on before lifting Castyr in his arms and following Miren down the hall. The human led the angel to the roof where a spacecraft was stationed. The sun had already set, so the stars were shining brightly against the dark sky.

"The destination is already set for Mythos. There is food and water as well as pillows and blankets. It is a seven-day journey and is straight through. No stops," Miren informed the angel as they neared the craft. "This flight is completely off the record. No one knows you are leaving except me."

Kilo nodded in thanks before respectfully inclining his head in gratitude to the human.

"The code for the house is 2264826," Miren said as she bowed back to the angel

Kilo memorized the code as he stepped ahead of the human and approached the craft.

"Stay safe, Kilo," Miren bid as the angel entered the craft.

"Thank Devyn for me?" Kilo asked as he turned around to nod farewell.

"Of course," Miren smiled as she watched Castyr and his angel disappear into the craft.

Kilo set Castyr in the co-pilot's chair before closing the door and lifting off. Once the craft had left Borum's atmosphere and the course was set, Kilo took the blankets and pillows provided by Miren and made a nest-like bed on the ground just behind the craft's control center. After making sure it was comfortable, Kilo lied Castyr in the nest before wrapping his wings around them both and beginning the cycle of the energy bubble.

"We're almost there, Castyr," Kilo encouraged the star softly, planting a kiss on the top of his love's head. "Just a few more days," Kilo said as he nestled Castyr's head under his chin and pulled the star into his body before closing his eyes and focusing all his energy into the cycle.
