Negative sides....

Kongpob's Pov---------

The smell of bacon brought me out from my sleep. It surprised me because my head was lying on Arthit’s lap, using him as my pillow. He had cooked for me several times and if I could smell bacon and still holding him, just who was cooking ??

I was facing his knees and had my casted arm tucked around his shins. I rolled over to face him. He closed the book he held and set it on the nightstand.

“Good Morning my Sun”

I said with a smile in my voice.

“You already completed this book last week, Why you are reading it again ??”

Arthit slipped my head off his knees and scooted down to engulfed me in his arms.

“This is an interesting book, so I am rereading it”

He bowed and kissed my jaw line.

“Did you sleep well ??”

“I did, Thank you. But I kept dreaming of Bright in a cape, it wasn't a very welcome sight for me”

I said this in a normal voice then waited..... Sure enough I heard a loud laugh from downstairs.

“Hey !! If you want to eat this buffet, you better quit mocking me in a cape. Jenny likes it when I wear a cape…”

Arthit and Me, We both laughed as I climbed off the bed.

“Bright’s cooking ??”

I asked as I quirked a brow towards Arthit

“Why is he doing that ?? And is it safe ??”

He laughed and said that Bright had watched some cooking show in the wee hours of the morning and had thought it couldn’t be so hard.

“Besides the bacon, he has made you French Toast with the banana sauce. Jenny said that he was reading the recipe very carefully. So it should be good”

Arthit turned to put his book back, on the bookshelf, while I put on a pair of blue jeans and a black button down shirt. When he turned back to me he chuckled quietly as I buttoned it up.

“What ??”

I looked down to make sure I had done the buttons up correctly and that my jeans were fitting well.

“Why are you laughing at me ??”

I walked into the circle of his arms and could feel his laughter against my chest.

“I am not laughing at you. When I first knew that you were my mate, Knott said that maybe having something that you had worn would help to desensitize me from your mouthwatering smell. That shirt you are wearing right now.... is what Bright and Wad brought me from your house”

He took a deep sniff again.

“I wore it the entire night and day before we met you officially. It was little tight on me but still I buttoned it up till my neck. It made Jenny nuts. She finally cornered me and popped up few buttons and pulled it out from my jeans, where I tucked it in. I was uneasy with so much skin showing but Jenny dosen't let me wear it any other way”

“Hmm…a few buttons open.... with your milky white skin peeking out in between, It probably looked great on you like that”

The thought of Arthit in my shirt was quite enticing. But before I could move on those thoughts, I stopped myself and kissed his jaw then led him towards the door. The aroma of food wafting up the stairs smelled really good and my stomach growled.

We made our way down the stairs and into the dining room. I glanced at the paintin of Arthit as I passed it on my way to the table. Bright and Jenny had been fascinated to see Arthit as a human. None of them had any pictures from their life before becoming vampires. I couldn’t believe the coincidence that the only picture of Arthit from his human days was here, in my home. It made me glad that my parents had a chance to at least see the person that was now my whole reason for being.

Bright had a towel tucked into the waistband of his jeans, using it as an apron. He was standing by the table, setting a plate of bacon on it. My eyes widened as I looked at all the food there..... the bacon, a huge stack of French toast and a bowl full of banana sauce. I raised my eyes to him in amazement.

“Bright, this looks and smells really great !!”

I took in the table setting. There was a lace cloth and my mother’s best crockery artfully arranged. Jenny was filling a glass from the pitcher of orange juice. She smiled at me as she set it in place.

Bright actually ducked his head in modesty, a wide grin on his face.

“Well, I hope it tastes as good as it looks. I had a little nibble of the French toast, but it tastes icky to me.”

He shook his head in disgust.

“But there was a really detailed recipe on you tube, so how hard can it be ?? Jenny made sure that I kept to the recipes and don't do experiments”

“He really wanted to experiment...”

Jenny said as she rolled her eyes.

“I told him that he better not, since he couldn’t tell by taste what the differences were between cinnamon and paprika !! Hell, I can’t even tell the difference in taste now…”

She hugged him tightly as she smiled up into his face.

“But I do feel that paprika would not be good in French toast !!”

I sat and filled my plate. Bright appeared to be holding his breath while I took my first bite.

Oh…it was good !! The French toast was exquisite. I let out a groan of enjoyment and quickly ate another bite.

“Bright…you could seriously open a restaurant with French toast as the main dish”

My praise made his smile widen and he watched while I ate another mouthful.

“That’s great !! I should search through on you tube and find some other recipes to make for dinner…”

After another smile at me and Bright took off for the kitchen.

“Well, I guess cooking is a fun obsession for him right now. It’s better than some of the other things that he had jumped head first into”

Jenny looked after her husband with a soft look on her face.

“Remember when he took up knitting ??”

Jenny was smiling as she glanced back at Arthit and Me.

“He made so many hats, scarves and gloves. The orphanage people were so astonished when we showed up with boxes and boxes of them for distributing to the kids there”

She looked towards the kitchen.

“I better go and oversee his endeavors. I don’t know for sure, but you probably wouldn’t want to eat an entire pig roasted in a pit in the backyard for dinner tonight…I hear him muttering about where he can find a pig at this time of day !!”

In the blink of an eye, she was gone too.

Arthit sat with me at the table as I continued to eat the wonderful meal. He laughed and mentioned a couple more of the hobbies that Bright had taken up over the years. We both kept chuckling over the things he had done.

I took one more sip of orange juice and leaned back feeling totally stuffed.

"Arthit, it's too bad that you can't eat some of this. It really was amazing."

The look on his face stopped me from continuing.

"What ??"

I asked.

"I said that we would talk about the drawbacks to being a vampire. This is one of them"

Arthit said in a sad voice.

"What's a drawback ??"

I felt confused, like I must have missed part of the conversation.

"Eating real food, Kongpob…you can't do that as a vampire. It wouldn't taste good anyway and you would just have to gag it back up, because you won't be able to digest it"

Arthit rose from his chair and started pacing around the dining room.

"I have watched you eat over the course of the last couple of weeks. You really do enjoy your food. The look on your face when you ate the cookies that Noor made for you…your expression just now when you ate Bright's French toast. You..... You just love food !!"

"But I will still eat when I am a vampire. I will just be drinking my meals rather than eating"

I didn't get how this could be a drawback.

"Do you look at this bacon and think....Ahhh... I wish I could eat that ??"

A small shudder rippled down Arthit's back as he shook his head no.

"Not in the slightest...."

"Then what makes you think that I will miss it ?? If you don't even think about it, then why would I ??"

When he didn't have an answer for me, I continued,

"If I won't remember the taste of real food after my change, and I am not going to be craving a pig roasted in a pit, then it won't be a drawback for me....."

I winked at Arthit

"I will just take my food right out of the small red bag and enjoy it"

Arthit just looked amazed at my comments. He stopped his pacing and came to where I was still sitting at the table. I had pushed my chair back in preparation to stand to take my plate to the kitchen. Arthit sat down on the table infront of me and pulled me between his legs and I slipped my arms around his neck. We were nose to nose, gazing into each other's eyes.

"One negative aspect brought up, discussed and crossed out....."

Arthit said as he kissed me lightly. I snuggled closer to him and kissed him hard, on the lips.

"Yep, if that's all you have got, you might as well change me right now !!"

Arthit laughed and kissed me back.  he stood again and started gathering the leftovers on the table.

"Let's get this cleaned up and we will continue our discussion…"

He had the orange juice pitcher in his hand and was walking towards the door when the sun suddenly shone through the east window. The rays of sun brightened his porcelain skin and he was glowing like his namesake. The beauty of the effect caught me off guard and I sucked my breath in quickly. Arthit blinked his eyes, a frown on his beautiful face.

"This is another downside. We aren't creatures of the night, but we can't stay out when it's sunny. Sunlight hurts our eyes if we stay under it, for little more than few minutes. We try to avoid it most of the time and tell other humans that we have bad eyesight or a rare eye disease"

I approached Arthit where he stood glowing radiantly in the sunshine. Gently I ran the back of my hand up to his face. He closed his eyes as he turned his face into the warmth the sun brought to him.

"Arthit, you are so incredibly beautiful. You just glow under the sun. I can't take my eyes off of you"

Stepping closer I ran my lips across the soft skin of his jawline. How could it be so soft and smooth ?? It was a wonderful sensation to look at and to kiss…

"I don't think it's a big drawback..... We can always wear sunglasses "

I kissed my way up his neck. He turned and pulled me closer into his arms as he pressed his lips tightly to my skin.

"Well, we can't wear them for longer time as well.... "

Arthit trailed off as he kissed his way down to my ear. When his cool breath puffed across it, I shivered.

"Why can't we wear sunglasses ??"

I asked as I found more places to kiss along his shoulder.

"It's makes us uncomfortable.... Our eyesight is so perfect that any glasses, no matter how good in quality they are.... They still hinder our sight and makes it uncomfortable for us to wear them for a longer time period"

Arthit had put the juice pitcher down on the table so that he could use his hands to try and make me crazy. It was working….. I was having a hard time breathing.

"Okay, So no outing in sunlight.... But we can go outside in evening and night time... Right?? "

My lips had found their way to his ear and I could tell that he, too, was having a difficult time breathing.

From the kitchen I heard Bright yell,

"Hey, I will take you for an outing at the middle of the night. It will be so much fun !!"

The mere thought of going out with Bright at midnight caused our intimate interlude to fall apart. No privacy from vampire hearing and eyesight.

That really was a negative aspect !!

Arthit moved slowly out of my arms and again gathered up the juice pitcher as I picked up my plate. He mouthed to me, Later !!  I gave him a distinct nod. Yes, later for sure !!

After we helped clean up the kitchen, Bright and I played some video games. Jenny and Arthit had gone to the grocery store to pick up the things that Bright would need to make my dinner. He had agreed that a pit roasted pig wouldn't be very appropriate for just me. Now he was going to make a pork meat dish that he had found in one of the YouTube channels. It sounded good and he was having fun. That made for a win-win situation.

After my lunch of an easy sandwich and coffee. It was just Bright and I in the house at the time, So he filled me in, again, on some of the fun to be had when one didn't have to sleep. I think he enjoyed seeing my ears turn red. I finally asked him about the negative side to being changed.

"Kongpob, for me there isn't anything big. Sure I missed my biological family, They all died after few years of my change, some from old age and some from other reasons, but I remain the same. I still miss them occasionally"

He shrugged his shoulders even as he continued to kill aliens on the screen.

"But what I have received.... is more than makes up for that. I would have lived a normal life and would be dead by now, if Jenny hadn't found her mate in me. And when I saw her gorgeous face for the very first time, well, that was, and still is, heaven for me"

He put his game controller down and turned to look directly at me.

"The fact that I can love her and be with her for eternity is enough for me. I have got brothers and sister…a whole loving family. We can do anything we want and go anywhere we want to"

He winked at me.

"I hope that once you have heard everything you will want to be changed. Then I will have another brother and I would like that very much"

"Do you remember your change ?? What it felt like ??"

I asked. A pensive look was on his face as he weighed his answer.

"I don't think I felt any pain with the initial bite. Once the venom started pouring through my veins the pain was excruciating. The pain lasts for few days, sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more. I was in pain for exactly six and a half days. I thought that the pain would make me lose my mind. But through it all I kept hearing Jenny's voice. She talked to me the entire time. Telling me about what we would do together, where we would go. She kept telling me how much she was going to love me. The time that I opened my eyes, she was there and...... She took my breath away with my new enhanced and better eyesight"

A look of total adoration was on his face as he mentioned his wife.

"I kept focusing on her and it seemed to help. Then the last bit of pain took my body into hell, and I won't kid you, it hurt worse than if twenty hounds of hell all bit me at once. Then it started getting better and I opened my eyes to a world that was so clear and beautiful. And Jenny was there, waiting for me with open arms."

Bright ducked his head, apparently overcome with the memory of those first moments with Jenny. After a moment he looked up straight into my eyes.

"I wouldn't change a thing"

So far the list of positive aspects of being a vampire was pretty long.....

1. Immortality and never aging, Vampires didn't physically age after their change. They were frozen at that point in their life. They didn't die although they could be killed.

2. Eternity with your loved one,  Immortality gave you an eternity with your loved one.

3. Never sleeping,  Which meant lots of time for sex…Bright mentioned that once again. Lots of time to learn new things, to accumulate knowledge and skills.

4. Super strength,  One wouldn't need a jack if one had a flat tire

5. Superior hearing and eyesight,  It was meant to help with hunt for your prey, but it helped in other ways too.  It also meant that there were very few secrets amongst the family.

6. Super Immunity,  Immortals never get sick. You don't need to be bed ridden nor you need to take sour pills and painful shots.

7. Built-in Radar,  Your superior sences gives you upper hand in everything, they work like a built-in Radar, you will never get into an accident.

The list was really long.....

The front door opened just then and we could hear Jenny and Arthit make their way into the kitchen. Bright leaped to his feet and gave my shoulder a gentle squeeze.

"I better go and get your dinner started. I have got some marinating to do !!"

I could hear him greeting his wife with a resounding kiss. Her laughter filled the house with music. Their playful banter was fun to listen to. Jenny was recounting a moment at the store where some guy tried to hit on her. Bright growled but Jenny said that Arthit had handled him.

From the sound of the laughter coming from both of the them, I think that whoever that poor guy was, he has probably his worst day today. The musical sound of their voices woke something in me and I left the game room and made my way to the living room where my piano sat. Dr.Noor said that my cast would come off at the end of the week. I could hardly wait. There had been songs and music forming in my head for the past couple of weeks and I really felt the urge to get it out there. Sitting down on the bench I paused for a moment. Then I ran my right hand over the keys and picked out a melody. Part of my mind was thinking about how I could use the tips of the fingers on my left hand to support the melody. I knew that it would still put stress on the healing going on in that hand, I know that my doctor would not approve. So, with a sigh, I continued playing just with my right one.

A few minutes after I started playing a pair of cool, pale hands rested lightly on my shoulders. I leaned back into the arms of my love. Arthit leaned forward and planted a kiss on my forehead as I continued to play the melody and started to sing the song that was floating through my mind. I knew exactly how I would use my left hand to support the notes…

"That's a lovely song Kongpob"

Arthit whispered when it trailed off.

"I haven't heard that before. Did you write it recently ??"

I grasped his hand and pulled him around and on to the bench beside me.

"Yes, it's something that has been whispering in my mind since I met you"

I put my arm around his waist and looked up into his eyes.

"It's a love song. I am writing it for you. And I can't wait to have my left hand back to normal so that I can finish the melody too"

A sweet smile played on his lips

"Kongpob…It's no wonder that I love you so much. You are the sweetest person that I have ever met"

He kissed me then tucked his head into my neck. If I was the sweetest person, then he was the most wonderful man to ever grace this world. I was surprised when Arthit sat back up and placed his hands on the keys. He gave me a dimpled smile before he started playing. After a few key strokes on his part, I put my right hand on the keys and joined him in a soft rendition of Heart and Soul.

We grinned at each other and went back through, adding flourishes to the simple tune. The family gathered to listen as we played and sing. Arthit had said that he could play, but that his heart wasn't into it. I guess he just needed the right partner, because our songs sounded lovely and touched a chord in my heart. We played through a couple more songs that we both liked, then finished to a round of applause from our audience.

We stood and took a bow. Bright challenged me to another round of video games before he had to grill the meat. Jenny and Arthit decided to clean the kitchen and whole house as well. We all spent the afternoon in quiet pursuits, tacitly leaving our 'Negative aspects of being a vampire' discussion for after dinner.

When Bright told me that dinner would be ready in 30 minutes I headed upstairs to take a shower. I was running a towel over my wet hair when I stepped back into the bedroom, a second towel was draped around my hips. There, on the bed was a new set of clothes, black slacks and a dark green silk shirt. I called out,

"Thanks, Jenny"

and heard her answering

"You are welcome Arthit"

Okay, another plus, always having nice clothes that Jenny would pick for you. Following my nose, I made my way back down to the dining room. Once again Bright had outdone himself. The grilled pork dish looked fantastic. There was a bowl of mashed potatoes and one of steamed broccoli. Soft rolls were in a basket beside a plate of carved butter roses. The table was beautifully set again, with several candles glowing down the center of the table runner. Everyone was dressed up and waiting for me. It was going to be a family meal apparently.

I moved to where Arthit was standing at the chair beside mine. I knew it was mine as it was the only seat at the table that had a plate setting. I paused beside Arthit, he was wearing a deep forest green dress shirt and black fitted jeans, with top two buttons of his shirt...wide open. I found myself having to really think about taking a deep breath. The saying  'Took my breath away'  must have been coined just for this man. When I could finally move, I kissed him on the cheek and he pulled my chair out for me. After filling my plate, I took my first bite.

"Oh, Bright, you are really going to spoil me, I may never cook again !! This is great !!"

My words seemed to break the ice and everyone started chatting as I continued to eat. It was just a little odd to be the only one eating, but the conversation didn't lag and I got over it. Maybe in the future, I wouldn't be eating either…...  When I was done with the main course, Bright and Jenny jumped up and cleared the table. They returned with a dish of something chocolate.

"Kongpob....."

Bright began.

"If you decide to go through being changed, you won't be able to eat dessert after your meals, So here it is...."

We all laughed at Bright's lame joke. But I groaned..... for a whole another reason when I took my first bite. It was smooth, creamy and utterly delicious.

"Seriously, Bright…you could start a restaurant with your skills !!"

I finished my serving just as my cell rang. May was calling with her daily update. Arthit and Jenny cleared up the table as I chatted with her. I moved into the living room and as my conversation came to a close, they all joined me there. As I said goodbye, I felt a bit of tension begin in my shoulders. The rest of the drawbacks were about to be laid out for me.

**********************************

Arthit's POV------

It didn't take us long to clean up after dinner. Bright was already planning what he was going to make for Kongpob's breakfast and his dinner the next day. I smiled to think of my brother being so domestic. Of course, Kongpob's extreme enjoyment of the end product just spurred Bright on.

Kongpob was just saying goodbye to May when we came back into the living room. She was getting anxious to have the baby out, where she could hold him. It wouldn't be long now. I settled on the couch beside Kongpob and he curled up into my side, placing his casted arm on my lap. I gathered him closer to my chest, I just couldn't get enough of touching him. The heat from his body had become my obsession. That, and his mouthwatering aroma, sealed the deal for me. Well, that and the way he looked at me or kissed me... totally tied me to him. If he chose to be changed, the heat would no longer be there. At least not with his body temperature, the heat that I felt because I loved him would always surround me. As I draped my arm over his shoulder, I could feel the tension in him.

"So far the negatives that we have discussed are that I won't be able to....or want to....eat Bright's delicious cooking or anyone else's for that matter. Going outside in the sunshine for longer time period will not be easy, so that I wouldn't blind myself with the brightness or get a headache"

Kongpob paused and looked at each of us.

"So, what are the other drawbacks to being a vampire ??"

His tone was light, but I could hear the stress in it. Thinking back on the conversation he had just had with May, I pointed out the main one.

"One of the biggest things is.... that you couldn't spend time with May, Aim or your Godson… for the time being, until you are not in control of your blood thirst and even after that too you won't be able to meet them for a long term"

He looked confused at my statement.

"Kongpob, the thirst for blood can be totally overwhelming to a newly changed vampire. You won't be able to be around humans for the time being. You won't be able to spend time with your friends"

I watched as that knowledge settled into his mind.

"Also the changes that come over your body are very noticeable. Your eyes would be scarlet for about two to three months. Contact lenses can only disguise the color to some small extent. Quite often newly changed vampires lose control and kill humans. Most vampires aren't bothered by killing humans. But to those that live our way, by valuing each and every life there, the guilt associated with killing is incredibly painful"

Kongpob's face was thoughtful as I finished.

Jenny spoke up,

"We are pale and cold…and beautiful. People who already know you would know that you had been through something, not that they would be able to figure out exactly what had happened"

"You wouldn't age anymore, and while that is also on the plus side, it's one of the reasons that we have to move so often. People would start noticing that you always looks 26, after few years. Of course, now that plastic surgery is getting so refined these days, we can stay longer in one place. People just think that we are all getting surgeries to look so good and perfect"

Jenny rolled her eyes as she pointed that one out.

"What human friends you have or will make in future will die of old age while you will remain the same"

I thought back to the friends that I had lost over time. Bright added his thoughts to the conversation.

"The burn in your throat is hard to ignore whenever you will be around humans at the start of this new life"

Bright paused, as he remembered his struggle in his starting years. He took a deep breath then continued.

"You can't sleep....."

He began as jenny glared at him.

"No, please let me complete..…"

He was already ducking away from the slap that he expected to hit the back of his head. Jenny waited, poised to smack him if she needed to, while he continued.

"Sometimes I miss sleeping. You know, just having everything turn off, to just sort of float in nothingness"

Then he wagged his eyebrows over at Jenny,

"And then......waking up to hot morning sex…"

That's when she smacked him.

Kongpob laughed, some of his tension leaving his body. Kongpob looked at me and reached up to pressed his hand on mine on his shoulder. Wanting to get everything out and on the table for him, I continued laying out the drawbacks to our lives.

"Once the venom enters your body, the pain is beyond anything you ever could imagine. It's the first clear memory that we all have, The fire consuming us. The pain almost drives you mad. It lasts about five to seven days. Vampire's venom started to burn the blood inside human body that's why they feel the burning sensation while changing..... If the venom burns out first before the blood into a human's body..... He will get paralyzed for the rest of his life.... No medicine can cure him. He will never be changed into a vampire, neither he can go back to be a human again. And.... If we try to infuse more venom into his system he can die all together with the access amount of venom. It's a very dangerous process, which needs to be handled very carefully."

I looked deeply into his eyes.

"I would hate for you to go through that kind of risk"

Kongpob got up and paced around the living room while we watched him. I saw several emotions cross his face before he turned to look at us. I couldn't read what he was thinking on his handsome face. His eyes held mine when he finally began to speak. His words caused my breath to catch in my throat.

"I have come to understand what you all really trying to say here........ The thought of becoming like you, doesn't scare me. You are all such wonderful people. You work hard to be a good person for the society. You give back to those in need of your help"

His gleaming eyes locked on mine again.

"You have been very clear and concise as you have pointed out the pros and cons of this new life ahead of me. You are right, I would miss being able to be around Aim and May and their baby as well, and I would miss my other friends too"

Kongpob walked towards me and held his hands out to me. I stood up and took his hands in mine.

"But, Arthit, if I have to endure few days of hell and even risk my life so that I can spend an eternity loving you and being with you, then it would be worth it"

He leaned forward and pressed a sweet, loving kiss on my lips.

"But..... I do want some time to be with May and Aim and to meet my Godson. Then there is Maya's trial coming next month"

He shrugged and said,

"I don't know if they would need me to testify, Mike seemed to think that it was an open and shut case. But in case they do, I would need to be available for that."

Kongpob's next statement filled me with joy…and with dread over how badly it would hurt him.

He pulled me closer and rested his forehead against mine.

"Arthit, I think that we can plan on a change in my status in the coming year. That is, if you will take me as yours mate"

He cocked his head and my favorite sweet smile graced his face.

"I love you Arthit and I want to be with you...... for eternity. A single lifetime won't be enough for me to love you, as much as I wish to"
