Dr. Noor
Kongpob's Pov---------
I wandered down slowly, taking in the house as I went. It was very charmingly decorated. I paused a few times taking in some of the paintings. The color scheme on the walls seemed warm and inviting at the same time.
I stopped outside the closed library door. I wasn’t sure if I should knock or not. I slowly pushed in the door and stepped in. Almost immediately, two figures to my left stood up from a table. One was Arthit and the other an older man probably in his fourties, he had thinning pale hair and blue eyes. He was also about three inches shorter and heavier set than Arthit.
“I am sorry. I did not mean to intrude, Maria told me where the library was. I did not know anyone would be in here.”
I started to ramble.
Arthit just looked at me, I saw his eyes travel up and down my body, checking me up in his clothes. I felt myself blush. The older male subtly elbowed Arthit and cleared his throat.
“My apologies, Mr. Suthiluck, this is Professor George William, Professor, this is Mr. Suthiluck”
Arthit’s ears turned a little red as he introduced us.
“Professor William”
I nodded my head to him. I saw Arthit smile, out of the corner of my eye.
“Mr. Suthiluck, it is a pleasure”
He smiled at me.
Arthit frowned looking at the older man.
“Kong, please feel welcome to any of the books in the library.”
Arthit turned back to me.
“Thank you, Arthit.”
I smiled at him then walked over to a large bookshelf.
Arthit and his professor sat back at the table and resumed what I am assuming was Arthit’s studies.
I started scanning the titles. On the top shelf was some hardcover books, I reached up and it was out of reach. I bit my lip and looked around, to find a stool or bench. I didn’t want to bother Arthit. Before I could turn completely around, Arthit was standing next to me.
“Would you like some help ??”
Arthit asked.
“Yes, please. Could you get those books down for me ??”
Arthit reached up and easily grabbed the hard covered books. He handed it to me, our fingers touched and then sparks traveled from my hand to my arm.
“Thank you”
I looked up at him, Our eyes connected and my heart rate started to pick up.
“You are most welcome”
Arthit said softly. He turned away and ran a hand through his hair as he joined his teacher again.
I found a chair on the opposite side of the room. I sat in it and opened the book to read.
As I read I could feel eyes on me. A few times, I would look up to catch Arthit’s eye. I would smile and go back to reading. After about the third time, I discreetly got up and left the room. I didn’t want to get Arthit in trouble for not paying attention. I found it amusing and enjoyable that he was watching me.
Although, in a way it made me miss Arthit from my time more. I would do anything for him, so if I was here to ensure Noor and Knott changes him, so be it. I briefly wondered if Arthit in the future, remember, we met during this time. I wondered why he never said anything.
Why wasn’t life ever simple for me ??
IT was almost noon. I found my way to the kitchen, where Maria was busy with work. She glanced up when I walked in.
“May I be of any help ??”
I asked politely.
“No, dear, but thank you”
She gave me a smile.
“You are not use to be waited on, are you ??”
I shook my head.
“I am used to doing the cooking and cleaning in my house. I lost my parents in a.... in a accident. I was all alone, taking care all of my needs on my own”
I didn't know if she would understand the word... Plane crash. So I said Accident instead.
“So you lost both of your parents at the same time... It wasnt a lie ”
She asked moving around the kitchen.
“Yes it wasn't, it happened few years back”
I told her.
She looked at me apologetically for a moment.
“So you were all alone ?? No one was by your side...??”
She asked next.
“I have few good friends”
I got defensive.
“I am glad you do, Mr. I was just wondering who took care of you when you needed someone ??”
She asked again.
“I guess you can say Arthit did ?? He and most of his family did”
I answered.
“I am sure there is a reason for this time travel. Do not be afraid to let the Arthit of this time love you too”
She sets things on a tray.
“You do not think the Arthit of my time will be upset with me, for telling lies about myself in this time about making up a past ??”
I asked. I was worried things would come back to hurt me in the future.
“No, because by then, I am sure he would understand why you had to do it. Now, go get seated so I can serve.”
She waved me out of the room.
I headed into the dining room and the others were already there. Arthit and his teacher stood as I came into the room. I think to welcome the guest...!!
I walked up to Arthit and sat in the chair next to him. He sat down with a small smile on his face. I took my napkin and placed it on my lap. Mrs. Rojnapat sat on one end with a smile on her face.
“This blue shirt is very beautiful on you, my dear. In fact, I think you should keep that one”
Mrs. Rojnapat complimented.
“Thank you, Mrs. Rojnapat. Also, thank you for your generosity with the clothes”
I thanked her sincerely.
“I must agree with my mother. That shirt looks really good on you, Kongpob”
Arthit remarked softly.
“Thank you, Arthit”
I gave him a smile.
At this time, Maria brought out some trays. She served Mrs. Rojnapat, then myself, followed by Professor and Arthit. After a few moments of eating Professor William spoke up.
“Do you enjoy literature, Kong ??”
I frowned at him taking liberty of my nick name. I knew it wasn’t proper in this era, unless I informed him otherwise. However, I didn’t think I could correct him as we were both guests in this house. I noticed Arthit had stiffened and was frowning as well.
“I do enjoy reading, Professor ”
I answered him trying to sound bored.
“Please, you may call me George. Are you familiar with Sir William Shakespeare ??”
He asked.
“I have read a few of his works, Professor William”
I answered formally, hoping that made it clear I wished to keep things formal too.
The professor frowned as Arthit smirked a bit. His mother in the mean time looked quite amused.
“Arthit and I were discussing Romeo and Juliet today”
Professor William continued, obliviously trying to control my attention.
“Did you enjoy reading the play, Arthit ??”
I asked turning the focus to him.
“Well, not very much....”
Arthit commented.
“Arthit, I believe. Perhaps you are too young to understand about things like love”
His teacher sounded as if he wanted to mock him.
Arthit scowled in distaste, my gut wanted to instantly defend him. I started to open my mouth, when Maria entered the room and shook her head at me. So instead, I turned to Mrs. Rojnapat to change the subject entirely.
“You have a very beautiful home, Mrs. Rojnapat”
I complimented her.
“Thank you, dear. Would you like a tour of the gardens after our meal ??”
She smiled at me.
“That would be lovely, thank you Ma'am”
I gave her a smile back.
I looked up at Arthit and he was frowning while looking at his plate. His professor was shoveling food so fast into his mouth, that it made me lose my appetite.
“Kongpob, I think I may have found your cousin, Dr. Noor. She works at the County Hospital. She is off this evening, but will be back tomorrow evening”
Mrs. Rojnapat continued to speak to me.
“If you need some guidance with the directions towards the hospital, as you are new here Mr. Suthiluck. I will be happy to help”
Professor William gave me a smile.
If I needed help I didn’t want it to be him. I gave Arthit a soft kick in his leg, hoping he would understand. I glanced at him and he looked at me bewilderingly before turning back to the professor.
“No need, Professor. I already told Kongpob I would help him with that”
Arthit answered with a slight smirk on his face.
This time Professor turned red and mumbled something while looking down at his plate.
After Maria removed our plates, I moved to get up from the table with the others. While the professor headed out of the room, I turned to Arthit before he could leave.
“Thank you”
I whispered to him.
He nodded and started to turn away.
“Arthit, I hope you were not offended by Professor's words earlier. I shouldn't have asked you about the novel in front of him”
I spoke softly.
“Its okay, Kongpob. Please do not worry yourself over it. I might be too young to understand things about love, until now, but I am starting to understand it... slowly”
Arthit gave me, my favorite dimpled grin and I smiled back.
I headed out the door I saw Mrs. Rojnapat disappeared out of. I found her by the back door by the kitchen.
“Are you ready to explore the garden ??”
She asked.
I nodded and I followed her out the door. The yard was a decent size for inside the city. It was surround by a brick and iron fence wall. Near the middle, towards the back, was a small gazebo and a small pond next to it. Looking back at the house I saw the three-story brick house with black shutters. There was a small balcony outside the room I was staying in and also the room at the opposite corner of the house. I listen patiently as she described all her flowers to me.
We ended our tour by the gazebo and Mrs. Rojnapat invited me to sit.
“Kongpob, I have wanted to talk to you”
She seemed hesitant to speak.
“Have I done something wrong ??”
I asked cautiously. I was worried she was aware of my earlier lying.
“No, not at all. It’s actually about Dr. Noor. How much do you know of her ??”
She asked looking at me expectantly. I had prepared myself for this because I was sure it was to come up.
“Well, my mother mentioned her when her older sister passed. She told me that Noor is my cousin sister and the only relative from my mother's side”
“And you never met her before this”
She inquired and I shake my head.
“I might be out of place in this, because I do not know what your plans are when you locate her. However, Dr. Noor is newly married and a fairly young woman. It would be unfitting for you to live in the same place with her, and I would not want her husband to look unfavorable upon you. I know you are a very sweet and decent boy”
She informed me with her hands folded in her lap.
I didn’t think of this before. In this era it was inappropriate to live with a young women without any close relationship.
“I see. What do you suggest I do ??”
I wrung my hands nervously. My plans so far seemed to fall apart. Do they have boarding houses in this time?? but what would I find for work at this time ??
“I would like to offer for you to live here. We have no young woman living in this house right now and I have already talked to Mr. Rojnapat and he has agreed. Tomorrow I would like to bring you shopping for clothes and other things you may need”
She told me, giving me a hopeful smile. Her generosity for me as a stranger was amazing.
“I appreciate your offer, but I could not impose like that”
I told her.
“Don't think like that, I have always wanted an another child. I know sometimes Arthit feels alone.... He needs a friend of his own age to share his thoughts and views. Having you around will make him happy too, I am sure of that. And I want to ask you a favor young man, unfortunately there are some families in our neighbourhood that like to gossip. So if asked, I would hope you would not mind the story being that you are the son of an old friend of mine”
She asked.
“After all your kindness, that is the least I can do. Is there anything else I can do to repay your kindness ??”
The guilt of accepting gifts and living with them was bothering me.
“I bet you were raised like me. You were taught to earn you keep”
She gave me a kind smile.
“Yes, Ma’am”
I admitted.
“If you are going to live here, please call me Mrs Rojnapat. I appreciate your offer, Kongpob. However, Mr. Rojnapat would never allow it. In fact, he does not like it when I try to do things according to my choice, but I am glad he agreed to let you live here on my request”
She informed me.
“I am really grateful”
I smiled. From inside the house I could hear the piano being played. I didn’t recognise the tune, but it seemed Arthit was trying to play. My fingers ached to touch the keys of piano.
“Ahhhh.... He is improving everyday”
Mrs Rojnapat smiled fondly.
“If Arthit is playing the piano, then Professor William must have left for the day. I can not wait that by this time next month Arthit will have his exams done and we will be rid of the man.”
She turned and looked at me as I stifled a laugh. Apparently I wasn’t the only one who didn’t care for the man.
“It made you uncomfortable when he called you Kong, am I right ??”
I opened my mouth.
“I am sorry if I was rude”
Mrs Rojnapat held up her hand to stop me.
“It is alright, Kongpob. The man knows about literature, math, and history and such. However, when it comes to manners, he is sorely lacking. Don't pay attention to him”
Mrs Rojnapat said firmly before standing up.
“Dinner is at six in the dinning room. We do not dress up for our meals unless there is company”
She nodded her head to me, then headed inside.
I stayed a minute outside, enjoying the warmth of spring and the sun before heading in myself.
I paused outside the door of the room that Arthit’s playing piano music in. I listened to his playing for a few minutes before I decided to knock.
“Come in, Kong”
Arthit called out to me. I opened the door and spotted first tall windows that faced out to the street, across from the door. To my right was a bookcase filled with records. Next to it, on the table, is a phonograph, one of the later styles that play records. To the left was Arthit’s grand piano. He was seated on the bench looking towards me.
“How did you know it was me ??”
Arthit chuckled.
“Easy. My mother and Maria would have just walked in...”
“Oh...”
I said, clasping my hands in front of me.
“I wanted to thank you, again, for coming to my rescue at lunch. However, I hope I did not impose on you to help me. If you rather not, then I understand”
I told him looking at the floor.
“It will not be any imposition and you are quiet welcome, again”
Arthit said.
I looked up at him and gave him a smile. Arthit patted the bench beside him, I moved to sit next to him.
“Do you play ??” he asked.
I nodded my head.
“Will you play for me ??”
I asked from Arthit
“What would you like to hear ??”
He replied.
“How about you play me your favorite....”
I suggested, that way I didn’t risk naming something that hadn’t been composed yet. Same reason I was hesitant to play myself.
Arthit started to play, and I thought back to the first time, I heard Arthit play, We were both playing together in our house at Oregon.
I didn’t realize I was crying until the music stopped and Arthit touched my arm. I looked up and he handed me a handkerchief, he looked concerned.
“My apologies, I did not know that would make you cry.”
Arthit frowned slightly.
“You do not have to apologize. The piano playing just brings up some memories”
I told him looking down at the piano.
“Good or bad ??”
Arthit asked tentatively.
“Both. You are a very talented piano player, Arthit”
I complimented him, hopefully to change the subject.
“Thank you, although my father would disagree”
Arthit sighed as he folded up his music.
“Why is that ??”
I asked.
“He thinks I am wasting my time. He wants me to prepare for joining the work with him. He thinks any extra time I have should be spend at his firm learning or studying.”
“What do you want ??”
I asked.
I heard a bell ring in the distance.
“That will be our dinner bell. I am afraid, Kong, what I want is not relevant in this house”
Arthit informed me. He stood up and extended his hand to me. He pulled me up next to him and let go of my hand as we walked to the door.
When we reached the dinning room, Arthit took the seat beside me.
At the opposite end of the table sat Arthit’s father. I could see the strong resemblance between the two.
“Kongpob, let me please introduce my husband, Mr. Rojnapat.
Mr. Rojnapat this is Mr. Kongpob Suthiluck ”
Mrs Rojnapat introduced the two of us.
“Please to meet you, Mr. Rojnapat”
I said pleasantly.
“And you as well, Mr. Suthiluck. My condolence on your parent’s passing”
He responded to me with a short smile.
“Thank you, sir”
I nodded my head as Maria sets my plate before, me. She already moved on to serve others.
“Maria’s roasted chicken is the best in the city”
Arthit smiled towards me as I look at my plate of roasted chicken and roasted potatoes.
“Now, boy, it's not polite to boast.”
Maria gave him a stern look.
“I am not a boy. I am a man”
Arthit mumbled.
“I have known you since you were a baby. To me.... you will always be the boy that would not go anywhere without his blankie...”
She smiled and left the room.
I tried unsuccessfully to hide my laughter, Although, I wasn’t the only with a problem. Mrs. Rojnapat choked back a giggle and made it sound like a cough. Mr. Rojnapat was smiling too. However, Arthit was scowling at his plate and his ears were bright red.
“Arthit, wipe the scowl off your face and eat. Or I will show Kongpob the pictures”
Mrs. Rojnapat raised an eyebrow.
Arthit’s head shot up and looked over to judge if she was telling the truth. I couldn’t help but add fuel to the fire.
“You have pictures of Arthit as a baby ??”
I asked.
“I have many pictures painted of him, I could show you them later”
Mrs. Rojnapat’s face lit up.
“Mother !!”
Arthit sounded a little frantic.
“Hush, not all of them are embarrassing. Besides you were a cute baby”
She smiled at him.
Arthit casted a look at Maria for help, but she just shrugged her shoulders. Arthit slumped and started to eat his dinner again.
When we were done eating, and waiting for Maria to come collect the plates, Mr. Rojnapat spoke up.
“So, Mr. Suthiluck, where are you from ??”
He asked.
“I am from Bangkok, Thailand. My father had his small business setup there ”
I chose those words because Suthiluck Enterprises wasn't setup yet....
“That is very commendable. But, I am sorry I have never heard of Bangkok before,”
His father informed me.
“It is a small town in a Island country of Asia”
I told him.
“When you came out here, what were your plans ??”
He asked me. I knew I needed a good story fast.
“Well, after I find my cousin, I want to start a small business. I use to help my father in his business, but I have not figured everything else out yet. I thought of possibly taking classes at the college too. However, I would need to get a job first”
I told him.
“Why would you want to do that ?? Should you not be more worried about finding yourself a wealthy bride, who would help you in setting up your business”
Mr. Rojnapat asked
I was too shocked to hear a comment like that come out of his mouth to respond.
“Mr. Rojnapat...!!”
Mrs Rojnapat whispered.
“Please.... Do you not think he should find help with a suitable marriage for himself ”
Mr. Rojnapat responded.
My temper got the best of me.
“Exactly what are you trying to imply of me ??”
I narrowed my eyes at him, and he narrowed his right back.
“That boys your age are always looking for marriage and dowry. That perhaps you didn't find the perfect match for you in Bangkok, so you came here especially since your cousin is a doctor”
Mr. Rojnapat said triumphantly.
“I do not want to set my business with someone else help... I want to stand on my own feet with my own efforts”
I paused and looked at him in the eyes
“It was hard to live in that place after loosing my parents so sudden.... that's why I decided to come here for a fresh start. The last thing I am looking for right now is a bride”
I finished unable to control my fury.
Mr. Rojnapat's eyes are wide and he looked shaken. I realised that I have said more than I should.
“My apologies, Mr. and Mrs. Rojnapat. Please, pardon me”
I got up and ran from the room. I heard Mr. Rojnapat speaking harshly behind my back. I continued outside and headed to the gazebo where I sat earlier in the day.
I am not sure how long I sat there thinking over everything. Few minutes later a timid sounding Arthit spoke up.
“Kongpob...”
I looked up at him. His hands were in his pockets and he looked upset.
“What now, is Mr. Rojnapat afraid I am going to go after some rich girls around here...?? ”
I said more harshly than attended.
“No.... I was hoping to join you for a moment”
Arthit spoke softly.
“It is your parents house, do what you want”
I looked away.
Arthit sighed and rubbed his hand through his hair. He moved to sit opposite me.
“Yes, but it is your home now, too. You have the right to send me away, if you want to ”
Arthit responded.
I didn’t say anything after that. We sat in silence for a moment. Arthit pinched the bridge of his nose before speaking again.
“Kongpob…. I owe you my sincerest apologies on behalf of my father, he acted completely horrid to you. We had no idea of what you were going through. He should not have assumed things. Especially, since you have not led anyone to believe the things you were accused of”
I looked into his eyes and I saw the sincerity.
“Its okay, Arthit. And... I am sorry for raising my voice at your father too. He is helping me in my rough time, I should behave thankful...not bashful”
I informed him, holding my hands tightly in my lap to keep them from shaking.
Arthit smiled a little
“No.... He was wrong by saying those things..... And I respect you for standing up for yourself ”
He whispered softly.
I reached out for his hand and Arthit frowned slightly.
“I wish I could be strong enough to stand up for myself like you... ”
Arthit said, his frown tightened on his face and anger filled his eyes. I knew what he was talking about but I couldn't say it first, he will be suspicious of me.
“May I know, why you feel like that ?? ”
I asked
“I rather not talk about it, please don't be offended ”
He answered.
“That is understandable. But, please tell me your father didn't do something to force you into something you didn't want to”
My voice raised several octaves. I was immediately alarmed
“Forgive me for raising my voice again...”
He just nodded.
“My father did not do anything.... Not yet... ”
Arthit told me.
“I know you should love and respect your parents Arthit.... But if they want you to do something your own concise dosen't agree to do.... Then you should stand up for yourself and speak your thoughts, ofcourse with all due respect ”
I said.
“Can we talk about something else ??”
Arthit asked softly.
“Yes, of course. Again, I am sorry”
I mumbled.
I shivered slightly in the chill of the night air. He stands suddenly and takes off his jacket. He wrapped it around my shoulders and I snuggled into it.
“Thank you”
I smiled at him.
He nodded and sat again.
“So, tell me, Arthit, since you know about my past now, what about yours ?? Are there any girls around here, you are interested in ??”
I looked at him as he grimaced.
“I guess that it is only a fair question after what my father said. But... No, Kongpob, there are not. The girls in the area all seemed to be after one thing. They only show interest in me because I am the son of a wealthy buisnessman, who is expected to follow in his footsteps. They are very shallow and petty. All they seem to do is agree with everything I say and giggle incessantly, even when the conversation is serious. I want someone who can have intelligent thoughts and is willing to share them. Also, one who seems more interested in me than what I am worth in dollars”
Arthit spieled his thoughts then looks embarrassed by his tirade.
“I can understand your thoughts because I share the same. We can be good friends for each other, and you may feel relieved that I will not agree with everything you say. I have no problem telling you when you are wrong”
I smirked.
A small smile formed on Arthit’s face as he started to chuckle, I shivered a bit again.
“I should get you inside before you get sick”
Arthit stood and offered me his hand.
I took it willingly. I glanced up at the sky as we walked. The moon was full and shinning brightly. I tripped over something and Arthit’s arms caught me before I hit the ground.
“Are you alright ??”
He asked in concern.
“Yes, I am fine. I was looking at the moon and not where I was going.”
I replied as Arthit straightens me then let’s me go.
“You know, how I was saying some girls would agree with anything I said. I once told one, I thought the moon was made of cheese, and she agreed without a second thought”
Arthit shook his head looking up.
“Well, sorry to say that, but I am not going to believe you on this. Next, you will be telling me the Earth is flat”
I teased.
Arthit looked back at me with his hazel eyes, full of amusement.
“It is a good thing for you that it is not.... or else you would be liable to trip off the edge of it”
Arthit chuckled.
My mouth dropped open at his statement. I whirled around and continued to head to the door. Arthit caught up and grabbed my hand to stop me.
“Please, do not get mad. I was only teasing”
He gave me a pout.
“Did you expect me to giggle at that ?? I am not a girl Arthit.... And I am not mad, I was just going to go ask your mother about those pictures of you”
I smiled taking my hand back.
The color drains from Arthit’s face.
“I was only teasing you Kong...”
Arthit grumbled from behind me.
I stopped and turned, causing Arthit to stop short in front of me. I looked up at him.
“If you can not take teasing, perhaps you should not tease yourself. I do not know why you are so worried, I am sure you were a very cute baby”
He gazed down at me and our eyes locked....... That look in his eyes I have seen before, only from his onex eyes. He looked as if he wants to kiss me. I am not sure how long we are like this when the door opened.
“Young boys, get inside before you get yourselves sick. I made some hot milk for you”
Maria spoke from the doorway.
“Yes, Ma’am.”
I broke the stare and headed in with Arthit behind me.
After we were finished with our hot milk, we headed up stairs for the night.
Arthit paused as he was leaving me at my door.
“I guess it is time to say, good-night”
Arthit said standing in front me with his jacket over his arm.
“Good-night, Arthit. Have pleasant dreams as you snuggle with your blankie.....”
I whispered.
Arthit’s face turned bright red.
“You are not going to forget about hearing that, are you ??”
He ran a hand threw his hair and shuffled a bit.
“No, not likely. But, if it helps, I once had a turtle stuffed toy that I slept with, and I find it hard to sleep without him”
I gave him a sad smile knowing that it was him, not an actual plushie.
“See you in the morning”
I whispered as I opened my door.
“Good night, Kongpob”
Arthit called as I shut the door. I curled into a ball in the bed and waited for sleep to come to me.
.
.
.
.
.
I was up before the alarm rang. Frankly, I am glad, because the old fashion alarm clocks was annoying compared to alarms on cell phones.
I noticed in the middle of the table is a sprig of lilac on the table with a note. I knew it wasn’t there when I went to bed. I picked it up and took a big whiff, the fragrance was beautiful. I notice a small vase on my nightstand so I filled it with fresh water from the pitcher. I then read the note.
I immediately recognise the handwriting.
Dear Kongpob,
There is not a flower in any garden that could compare to the charms and fragrance that is as lovely as yours.
Sincerely,
Arthit
I thought the note and flower was the sweetest thing. But it also meant Arthit snuck into my room as I slept. I guess vampire Arthit is already started lingering inside this Human one.
There was a knock on my door.
“Come in”
I called softly, since it is still early in the morning.
“Good morning Master Kongpob. I just wanted to make sure you are up.”
Maria walked into the room.
“Good morning, Maria”
I called to her softly.
“I can see that you are a morning person”
She smiled at me. Looking at me as I was all washed up and dressed up for the day.
“I didn’t sleep so well last night. So, I woke up early and get ready”
I confessed.
“You should not worry so much. Things will work out. Just do what feels right and don’t worry about second guessing yourself”
Maria said as she moved to the bed to straighten the bed covers. She picked up the flowers and headed back to me.
“Lilacs mean the first emotions of love. I think our young master is already trying to gain your notice and affection.”
She headed back to the closet. She pulled out a lilac color dress shirt.
“I think you should change into this shirt today.”
I nodded and she informed me that breakfast was in about twenty minutes, before leaving the room.
.
.
.
.
.
Before heading down the stairs, I took the note and placed it in the top drawer of my nightstand.
I stepped out of my room at the same time Arthit stepped out of his. Instantly my already good mood brightened even more.
“Good morning, Arthit”
I told him brightly.
He looked up and his face breaks out into a bright smile at seeing me.
“Good morning, Kongpob”
Arthit said cheerfully. He walked up to me and paused. His smile widened when I catch him noticing the lilac colour shirt I was wearing.
“Thank you for the flowers Arthit”
I whispered as I looked up at him.
His gaze moved to my eyes.
“You are welcome”
He whispered back. The very tips of his ears turn pink.
I am still slightly amused that I can make him blush.
“Did you sleep well,”
Arthit asked as we start to descend.
“I did, Thank you. Did you ??”
I answered politely. Even thought it wasn’t the truth, I didn’t want to be impolite with his parent’s hospitality.
“I slept well”
Arthit answered, he frowned slightly. I realized he didn’t believe me.
On the last step I trip, and Arthit automatically caught me. His eyes dance with amusement.
“Can you make it the rest of the way or do you need my assistance,”
He teased.
I removed my hand from his
“I think I can manage”
I scowled as I walked away.
“I am only teasing Kong”
Arthit called, but I keep walking without looking back.
“Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Rojnapat”
I said to Arthit’s parents as I move to my seat.
“Good morning, Kongpob.”
His mother called back before sipping her coffee. Mr. Rojnapat just nodded, as his head was buried in the papers in his hand.
“Arthit, what have I told you about not lurking in the doorways ??”
His mother was now looking to the doorway where Arthit had stopped.
I looked up at him and his face no longer looks amused, but ashamed.
“I am sorry, Mother”
He answered, but looked at me as he is talking. He came and sat besides me. I felt his gaze still on me until his father cleared his throat.
Maria entered with plates of food, On the plates are familiar scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. Instead of staying mad with Arthit, I decide to turn the tables.
“So, tell me Arthit. Last night, we had the best chicken in the city. Are we having the best eggs in the city today ??”
I asked.
He looked at me in confusion than his lip twitched slightly as his mother laugh.
“You will have to judge that for yourself. I find them quite good myself”
Arthit smiled and stabbed some egg on his fork. As he brought it to his mouth, it falls off and landed on his lap.
“Helps, if it makes it into your mouth, though”
His father snickered.
I couldn’t help but laugh as Arthit picked up the fallen egg and tried to continue as nothing happened.
Although, there are many things of vampire Arthit I miss. There are qualities of this Arthit, I admire. He seemed more carefree, seeing him with more human faults was endearing as well.
When we were finished eating, his father got up first from the table and walked out.
The doorbell rang and Arthit groaned.
“That would be the Professor, excuse me”
Arthit sighed.
“Have a good day, Arthit”
I headed in the opposite direction of the door, wishing not to run in with that man, again.
To bide my time in the morning, I finally convinced Maria to let me help her in some way, she allowed me to make an apple pie to serve with tonight’s dinner. I made the pie the way my grandmother used to.
After some time Mrs. Rojnapat and I headed out to the market for buying some clothes for myself, we took the horse carriage to get there. The first shop we went to, made me realise right away, long gone were my sweats, casual t-shirts or even jeans.
Jenny would be so pleased to be here. I missed her a lot too. I looked around at all the clothes and realised I could really use her right now.
Luckily, Mrs. Rojnapat seemed to know what will look best on me already. She bought few dress shirts and dark shade pleated pants for me. When we finished getting all the clothes packed, Mrs. Rojnapat brought over a dark blue, very elegant looking three piece suit, the type of suit for dances or fancy dinners in this time.
“Try this on dear. We will have a big celebration next month after Arthit is done with his studies”
I nodded as I look at the very beautiful piece of cloth.
“Thank you. You and your family have been very generous to me”
I told her, carrying the boxes outside.
“It is a pleasure. I enjoy shopping for Arthit but he always argue with me on colours and designs but you were quite agreeable with me... and I hope it was not because you were feeling obligated towards me ??”
She asked.
“No.... No it's not that, I really like all the clothes”
She smiled in return.
Outside, Arthit was leaning against the carriage. He straightened up when he spotted us. He immediately came forward and help me with the packages.
“We still have to buy few hat for Kongpob. While we are in there, I would like it if you went across the street and get the items on Maria’s list”
Mrs. Rojnapat told him.
“Yes, Mother”
Arthit accepted the list from his mother then nodded his head at me.
The hat shopping went much faster. We selected two. One was a white and second was brown. In this era, It was really necessary to wear hats for men, whenever they are outside of the house.
Arthit met us back at the carriage. He held the door for his mother like a true gentleman.
Arthit hopped into the seat next to his mother and opposite to me.
“Mother, did you find suitable clothes for Kongpob”
Arthit asked
“Yes, He is not fussy while shopping for clothes like someone I know”
His mother smiled, she looked closer at him, then removed his hat off his head.
“Mother, please do not do that in public”
Arthit sounded upset.
“Do not mother me. You did not do anything with you hair. We have oil at the house, why do you not use it”
She sighed loudly.
“Because I do not like that stuff in my hair, it feels greasy. I like my hair like this”
Arthit grumbled. Truthfully I like his hair like that as well.
“But, if you go out in public you should look maintained”
His mother chastised.
“Yes, Ma’am”
Arthit sighed.
When we got home, Arthit and I carried the packages to my room. I spent the rest of the time before the dinner, unpacking and putting away my things into drawers.
I was going to meet Noor, right after dinner, tonight. Things were going to be a bit tricky to see Dr. Noor. Somehow I needed to speak to her alone. I am not sure how appropriate that will be. Arthit being there would complicate things. Not only, I wasn't sure if it was acceptable for me to talk to Noor alone, I wasn’t sure if Arthit would be a happy about it or would insist on being there. I hope I can think of something before we can get there.
I sighed and got a hold of myself before going into the dinning room.
Dinner was about over and Maria came in to pick up our dessert plates.
“Delicious pie tonight, Maria”
Mr. Rojnapat complimented her as he patted his stomach.
“The complements belong to Mr. Suthiluck. He made the pie himself this morning”
Maria nodded her head to me with a smile. A faint blush crept upon my cheeks as the others turned to me.
“My compliments, Mr. Suthiluck,”
Arthit’s father nodded at me.
“Thank you, sir”
I replied softly.
“Do you like to bake, dear ??”
Mrs. Rojnapat asked gently.
“Yes, Ma’am, I have enjoyed helping my mother in the kitchen since I was young”
I answered.
“Then you helped her in preparing the meals in your home ??”
She continued to question. The manner didn’t seem accusing, but merely in curiosity.
“Sometimes.... ”
I told her speaking the truth.. Of course I couldn't tell her that those meals were simple things like noodles or a box of macaroni and cheese.
“That is very commendable. It's a shame these days that not all the boys are taught to do some of household tasks like that”
Mrs. Rojnapat shook her head in disappointment.
“Arthit, I will allow you to accompany Mr. Suthiluck to see his cousin. But come straight home after that”
His father stated and stood up.
“Yes, father”
Arthit stood than looked at me
“Are you ready, Kong ??”
“Yes... Let's go ”
I walked out of the room with Arthit. I put on my hat and when I turned to wear my robe Arthit had it extended to help me with it.
“Thank you”
I glanced at him with a smile as he placed it gently around my shoulders.
“You are quite welcome”
Arthit smiled as he placed his hat on his head. We walked out to the carriage that is waiting by the street.
As we rode in the carriage, my nerves started to kick in again. I wrung my hands nervously. Arthit reached a hand towards me then stopped and pulled it back. He seemed hesitant on how to help me.
“Kong, are you alright ??”
Arthit asked.
“Just nervous.”
I told him, glancing out the window at the buildings we are passing.
“What is there to be nervous about ??”
Arthit frowned.
“I am nervous, because I am not sure if I am going to be believed”
I admitted without telling him too much.
“Why would she not believe you ??”
Arthit frowned deepened as his eyes tightened.
“Well, your father made me aware yesterday that my intentions may be misunderstood to be something other than I intended”
I huffed out. Arthit’s head dropped in shame. His eyes flinched and filled with guilt.
“I am not blaming your father. But all the same, I am now worried even more than I was on how this will go”
I looked down at my hands. This time when Arthit’s hand slowly reached out to mine, he picked up my left hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. The warmth of his hand felt comforting. Just by his simple gesture my nerves were soothed.
“If she is a wise woman, she will listen and believe you. If she does not, you have nothing to fear. We will not turn you out. My mother and Maria have taken quite a liking towards you, as well as others.”
Arthit squeezed my hand one more time before letting go. I instantly feel the lost.
“Who are these others ??”
I asked him boldly, compelling him to admit that he would.
“Well, Professor William for one.”
Arthit said. I frowned at the thought.
“I thought you were trying to make me feel better ??”
I groaned in frustration.
“So you do not welcome his attention ??”
Arthit asked softly.
“If I did, it would be him and not you that would be helping me to find my cousin, tonight.”
I admitted as I watched Arthit’s response. He straightened and puffed his chest out a bit.
“Good to know that”
Arthit said very softly. So soft I almost could not hear it.
“We are here Sir...”
Said the carriage driver, a little louder.
I was grateful for the use of the carriage. The walk would have been manageable, but very long.
After we enter I went up to the desk, where a young man was sitting.
“Excuse me. Can you tell me where I can find Dr. Noor Thaklam ??”
He looked up from the clipboard. he appraised me over the top of his glasses before answering.
“And you are ??”
He asked a bit rudely.
“I am her cousin. I have traveled a long way. I was told she was working here”
I replied.
“She is most likely in her room, up the stairs, second door to the right”
He pointed to a flight of stairs to my left.
“Thank you...”
I smiled politely. I turned back to where Arthit is waiting for me a few feet behind.
“Would you mind waiting here for me ?? I promise not to take long.”
I asked him.
“You do not want me to come with you ??”
His eyes narrowed.
Please, Arthit do not fight me on this, I thought to myself.
“I was hoping to do this on my own. Please, Arthit”
I requested.
“If that is what you wish. I will wait here.”
He nodded. I smiled appreciatively and then head for the stairs.
At the top I head to the door I want. I take a deep breath and knock.
“Come in”
A musical voice answered. I walked in the door. Noor was standing behind a desk watching me carefully as I enter.
“Dr. Thaklam ??”
I asked even though I knew the answer.
“Yes ??”
Suspicion was evident in her voice. I then remembered about vampire hearing. She probably heard that I called her my cousin.
“Could I have a moment of your time ?? I am in dire need of your help”
I told her.
“What kind of help are you in need of Mr.…??”
Noor asked.
“Kongpob Suthiluck... I am in need of help that only a cold blooded and charcoal eyed woman can give a boy, from the year of 2022”
I bit my lip after utter out the words. Noor’s eyes widen and then narrow.
“I am sorry, but I do not believe I can help you”
She said lacking emotion in her voice. I knew that Noor was a loving natured woman, I was sure she would at least be willing to listen to me.
“Please, you are the only one who can help me. At least give me a moment to explain everything. Like how I know you and your husband Knott from my time and you do not look like you aged a bit. I promise you, I mean no harm....”
Tears came to my eyes at the helplessness I felt at the moment.
“You know my husband too ?? Okay... I will listen to you ”
Noor sighed as she gestured to the seat in front of her desk. We both sit.
I started into my tale telling her everything. From both the future and the past, she is silent and doesn’t interrupt.
When I finish I look up at her. She was rubbing her temple thoughtfully. I bit my lip waiting for her. She finally looked at me with a sad smile.
“I believe you, Mr. Suthiluck...”
She told me gently. I let out a sigh of relief.
“So will you help me ??”
I begged
“I will do what I can...”
Noor nodded.
“Can you tell me then if I am doing the right thing ?? Am I here to ensure the future ?? Or am I here to save Arthit from getting into that accident ??”
I asked needing a second opinion.
“I though Maria believed that you were here to ensure it ??”
Noor raised an eyebrow.
“Yes, but I want to make sure you believe that as well. I have been so confused and conflicted. Sometimes I am not even sure if I am really here. But can you go to sleep in a dream and still wake up in a dream ?? If it is not a dream does your future self know all this happened, and if you did, why did you not say anything ?? And how did you keep it from Arthit for so long??”
I confessed my worries.
“I can see where you are coming from. I am sure this is stressful, especially if you already love Arthit in this time as well. However, I must agree with Maria, if anything, you are here to ensure it happens. Me and Knott will change him when the time comes”
Noor informed me
“As for my future self, I am sure I kept quiet to ensure you came back here to set everything in motion. This time loop, if that what this is, can be sensitive. You are right about myself not telling you in the future, that you need to go back in time. It is similar to how you are not able to tell Arthit now, that you are from the future. It is a very complex situation and I can see why you are so conflicted”
Noor gave me a sympathetic smile.
“It has been giving me constant headaches. Do you even have pain killer pills at this time for me to get ?? That is the other reason why, I am always so worried. I am afraid I am going to trip up and mention something that has not been invented yet like TV or an event”
I collapse backwards into the chair.
“I am sorry, Pain killer pills ??”
Noor looked confused. I sigh at my mistake.
“That is what I mean. Pain killer pills. Like medication you can get at a drug store or pharmacy for relieving some pain without the need to see a doctor”
I explained.
“Ahh. Well, I can give you these herbs powder”
Noor stood up and went to a cabinet to the side of the room.
“This is a powder, not a pill. You mix it with water to drink. Only use it if you think the pain is not tolerable”
She handed me a few packets.
“Now what is TV ???”
She looks amused. I smiled slightly glad to find another friend.
“An electronic device that you can view motion pictures of people in shows and movies of comedy or drama, sometimes the news or a sport without leaving your home”
I told her.
“Interesting. I would like to ask you more about the future, particularly about my future family”
Noor’s eyes brightened.
“Another time ?? Maria said it would be acceptable for you to come for tea with Knott. Perhaps, we will be able to have a discussion then”
I suggested.
“I should go before Arthit comes looking for me”
“That would be wonderful, Knott would want to meet you too”
Noor walked me to the door.
“I would like to meet this Arthit if that is alright ??”
“Sounds good to me, cousin”
I answered her with a smile and I held her hand, she chuckled.
“You really aren’t afraid of me are you ??”
Her eyes were amused and seemed happy.
“No, sorry, I am used to be pampered by you in the future”
I smirked as she leads us down the steps. Arthit was pacing back and forth. His head shot up and looked at us as we descended the stairs. His eyes home in on my hand in Noor's hand and Arthit’s eyes narrow. Noor chuckled again.
“I do not think you have to worry if this boy cares for you in this time as well, He looks ready to rip my arm off without hesitation”
Noor whispered softly. She spoke louder when Arthit headed towards us.
“You must be Mr. Rojnapat. I want to thank you and please extend my gratitude to your parents for taking such good care of my cousin here. I have heard quite a bit about you. I am sure you will be glad to know everything is good”
Noor lied smoothly.
“Yes, pleasure to meet you, Dr. Thaklam”
Arthit pulled off his hat and bowed to Noor.
“I will pass your gratitude on to my parents. Kongpob, are you ready to go ?? It is getting late”
Arthit asked.
“Yes, I am coming. I will see you again, cousin”
I smiled at Noor as I step up to Arthit’s side. He placed his hat on and walked ahead.
“I am looking forward to it, Kongpob”
Noor gave a small wave before she headed to the desk. Arthit and I silently walked out to the carriage. Arthit didn’t speak until we were seated inside the carriage.
“So she believed you ??”
Arthit asked me breaking the silence.
“Yes, she did. I am sorry if I kept you waiting too long”
I apologized.
“You do not have to apologize. I am glad you have found a family member. She seems like a good woman”
Arthit commented. If I hadn’t been looking at him I would have missed the bit of jealousy in his eyes.
“She is a very good woman. I have been very lucky to have first you and your family and now her to accept me so willingly”
I glanced out the window again at the passing buildings and houses.
We pulled into the driveway of the house. Arthit led me through the back of the house and we entered by the kitchen. I was about to go up the stairs when I noticed Arthit had stopped at the table.
“What are you doing ??”
I asked.
“Shhh, I do not want Maria to hear us”
Arthit hushed me. He grabbed a fork and uncovered the pie. He started to eat it straight from the pan.
“What are you doing ??”
I repeated as I walked closer.
“I am eating your delicious pie. I think it may be the best in the country. I had to try it again to make a judgment call”
Arthit declared with a Cheshire cat smile as he puts a large bite into his mouth and almost moans.
“Well, what are your results, your honor ??”
I teased.
“Demfief mh bemt pame”
He spoke with his mouthful.
“I am sorry; I did not quite catch that ??”
I laughed and Arthit smirked. He swallowed.
“I beg your pardon. I said ‘definitely the best pie’.”
Arthit smiled at me.
“You are a flatterer, Arthit”
I grabbed the fork from his hand.
“Hey.. get your own fork,” .
Arthit pouted. I just batted my eyelashes at him. I stabbed a piece of pie and brought it up to his mouth. Just as he opened his mouth; I quickly placed it in my own and I gave him a smirk. Arthit’s eyes widen in disbelief and his mouth dropped open.
“Fine, you big baby....”
I chuckled as I placed another forkful into his open mouth. His eyes narrowed and he swallowed.
“I am not a baby..... I am a man”
He pouted. I rolled my eyes, placed the fork down and swiped some pie filling on my finger, I reached up and place it on Arthit’s nose.
“If you are not a baby then do not pout like one”
I told him mischievously. Arthit took a step towards me as I placed my finger in my mouth to clean the rest off.
“Kongpob, clean that off, now....”
Arthit ordered.
“No, Arthit”
I told him while backing up. He followed me until I back into the wall. Arthit braced a hand on either side of me, blocking any possible escape. He brought his head so close our noses practically touch. He looked into my eyes, his eyes are dark and full of mischief. This was a side I rarely see of him.
“Tell me that I am a man....”
He growled. My heart beats unevenly.
“You are a man, Arthit”
I whispered as I feel his breath on my face. For the second time I think he is going to kiss me. But I didn’t think he would actually be this bold to begin with. Apparently, his self-control was not as strong as it was when he is a vampire.
“Thank you”
Arthit smirked and then wiped his nose on my cheek. I frowned as I wipe the sticky stuff from my cheek. Arthit walked back to the pie chuckling. I huffed and got my own fork. We eat the rest of the pie in silence, but I could feel the tension between us.
Afterwards, we walk up the stairs together. He paused outside my door.
“Wait here for a moment”
Arthit whispered. He ran into his room and came back quickly. He was holding something behind his back.
“I… ah…”
Arthit sounded a bit nervous. He takes his free hand and ran it through his hair. He takes a deep breath and thrusted what he was hiding at me. As I take it, I looked at the small stuffed turtle in my arms. I looked up at him. He gave me a shy smile.
“I thought you might like this to sleep with. I know it can not replace your old one, but I thought it might help you sleep better”
He looked hesitant and nervous, so unlike his vampire self. His action warmed my heart.
“Thank you, this is very sweet of you”
I took a chance at being bold, I stretched up on my toes and kissed his cheek. Arthit’s face blushed.
“Good-night, Arthit”
I told him as I stepped away. Arthit’s hand went to his cheek and he seemed a bit dazed.
“Good night, Kongpob”
He turned to walk away, still touching his cheek. Just as he reached it, his parent’s door opened.
“Son, is your face alright, why are you holding it ??”
Mrs. Rojnapat seemed concerned.
“An angel kissed it, Mother”
Arthit told her, still in a dazed state. Her Mother arched an eyebrow and looked at me. My face turned bright red, I turned my gaze to my feet and held the turtle tight.
“I think it's time for bed”
His Mother said firmly. I moved to open my door, afraid I made his Mother mad. Just before I shut the door I could hear her let out a chuckle before going back into her room.

A/N: One of my wonderful reader remind me of the mistake I made in Arthit's human name... I wrote his name as 'Arthit perawat Sangpotirat' in the chapter 'Answers' where he was telling Kongpob about his past. I am just so used to write his name as Arthit Rojnapat. But it's really a big mistake. So if you guys want me to correct it and address Arthit as Mr. Sangpotirat in the next chapters, please tell me right away.....
I will wait for your answer. And please ignore other mistakes if there are any. 🙏
Tell me what you think about this chapter and I will be back with a new update soon. Till then stay safe and healthy 💖💖
