11 - Ramen And Quiet

The bus ride back home had been silent, a peaceful sort of quiet between Yeseul and Jeongin as they observed the heavy rain that came down upon them as they returned. They watched the passersby all desperately trying to avoid the water droplets, the size of a golf ball.

As Yeseul pushed open the door to her apartment, Jeongin did not go past her in a hurry, much to her surprise.

Instead, he simply went straight to the kitchen, taking out a packet of ramen from the cupboards, preparing to make dinner for the two.

A soft smile was spread, delightfully, across the Jeon girl's face as she watched him work, his blue hair pulled back by a black hair band, his tongue peeking out in concentration.

"Does it taste good?" Jeongin asked almost shyly as Yeseul sipped up the steaming hot ramen in her bowl.

"It's delicious!" The female grinned. "Thank you for the food, Jeongin. Where did you learn to make this?"

"Actually, it's Minho hyung's recipe," The Yang boy smiled. "When we - when we all used to live together, he would normally be the one cooking for us considering most of us were bad cooks,"

"I didn't know he cooked," Yeseul mumbled, eagerly diving into her food, relishing the warmth it provided after a wet, rainy day.

...

The rest of the evening was relatively blissful, a comfortable silence between the pair as they did what the two wanted to do.

Jeongin was engrossed in a programme that was running on the television, his fox eyes wide at the sight of the climax in the series. Meanwhile, Yeseul was busy finishing up her assignments, her mind in its legal state as the thought of good answers to provide.

"Was law your first choice?"

The Jeon girl looked at the boy, who had apparently got bored of watching the show, and was now looking at her illegible scribbles.

"Not exactly," Yeseul replied. "At first, I wanted to go into medicine, see, doctors have a higher salary than lawyers, but it would take very long, especially if I wanted to major into a particular department. Before I had to decide, I became interested in the justice system, so I went for that,"

Something pulled on Jeongin's heartstrings.

Areum had been a nurse, and Yeseul had been considering it as a career choice.

"My mum had been overjoyed when I told her that I wanted to go into medicine, but she's still equally as proud for going for law,"

"What are your parents like?"

Jeongin didn't really know why he was asking so many questions, but he supposed that he wanted to get to know the girl better. After all, he hadn't been particularly sweet towards her, and he wanted to change that.

"Well," Yeseul paused. "My mum is a nurse who works with children, and my dad works as a literature teacher in a school,"

"So you're an only child?"

"Yeah, but it was alright though, it meant that my parents doted on me as much as they could,"

"Were you rich?"

At her slight hesitance at the question, Jeongin waved his hands. "You don't have to answer, I was just curious,"

"We weren't rich as to say," Yeseul muttered. "In fact, we struggled quite a bit, but my parents did as much as they could to keep my childhood self happy. They sacrificed a lot for my sake, and I guess I just want to repay them,"

As she began to ramble on about her childhood and all of the brilliant things she had done, Jeongin found himself staring at her.

He was observing.

Jeon Yeseul was very pretty, and Jeongin couldn't really blame Iseul for liking her. She had a button nose and doe eyes that practically sparkled when she was talking about something she liked. She had pouty, pink lips that looked so soft, and her dark hair covered her exposed shoulder, wrapping around her like a blanket.

Suddenly, a horrible warm feeling began to rumble through the Yang boy's stomach as his mind and heart both whispered to him, something that he had refused to do in a very long time.

He liked Jeon Yeseul.
