1 - An Angel is on My Bed
"Criminal law itself is the theory of deterrence, it's a mechanism by which punishement is dealt not only so that the party who has been aggrieved has some form of redress, but also as a mechanism so that crime will not happen in the future,"
As the professor continued with his lecture, Jeon Yeseul clapped a hand over her mouth so as not to yawn and earn any scathing stares from the rest of the students who paid utmost attention to the words that were being said.
The girl blinked a few times, rubbing her eyes as though to will herself to concentrate. Her document on her laptop only contained a few sentences in comparison to the other students who had paragraphs already written.
It wasn't that Yeseul was not the best student, nor that she struggled to focus, because normally, she would be eagerly writing as much as she could, fully understanding difficult concepts.
But last night, she had been a little preoccupied.
"Alright," The professor clapped his hands. "That was your introductory lesson to criminal law, next lesson, make sure to bring all of the books that I've sent to you all by email, off you go,"
Relieved sighs and yawns finally errupted in the room as the teacher exited the hall, leaving students flicking through their papers or simply chatting among friends.
Yeseul glanced at the large groups of classmates, laughing as they agreed to have a drink after classes, a longing look in her eyes.
Oh, how she wished she could join them.
Suddenly, her vibrating phone brought her back to reality, and the name 'Cha Iseul' screamed across the screen in Hangul.
Yeseul's finger hovered over the button, pondering whether she wanted to answer or not. Yet, as she pressed the answer button, an anxious wave rolled over her.
"Hello? Iseul?"
"What took you so long to answer? I'm outside in the car park, come on,"
The phone cut off almost as fast as it had rung, and the Jeon girl gripped her bag tightly, piling her work inside.
Off to Iseul she goes.
...
"Iseul- please, no- "
Yeseul's hands were placed firmly on the Cha boy's chest as he continued his efforts to tease her, his lips grazing her cheeks and her own lovely lips, his arms on her waist.
"Iseul," The girl tried again. "Please, I don't want to,"
"You don't want to?" Iseul scoffed as he moved away, glaring at his girlfriend. "But, I want to, Yeseul, can't you do that at least for me?"
Her hands fell to her sides, her eyes not meeting his as a deafening silence came between them.
"You're probably the only girl in the world who doesn't want to do this," The Cha boy muttered under his breath. "Gosh, you're so frustrating! You can't even do that for me,"
"I'm not ready," Yeseul answered, softly. "I want to do it with someone special,"
"Am I not special enough for you, Jeon Yeseul?" Iseul's voice dripped in anger at the girl's statement, making her eyes widen in complete fear. "Or is it that there's someone else that you want to do it with? Who is he?"
"I didn't mean it like that!" Yeseul cried, hopelessly. "I-I'm just - scared,"
"Of course you are," Iseul slid his feet into his shoes, opening the door. "You're pathetic,"
With that final statement, the male slammed the door to Yeseul's apartment shut and the girl listened as she heard his expensive car rumble away.
As soon as she could no longer hear the engine, Yeseul slid to the floor, curling up, tears streaming down her cheeks as she tried to breath.
Cha Iseul.
Her boyfriend wasn't particularly the best in the world, but when she had met him, he had been completely different. A boy who was engrossed in the modern world and treated her well, a boy who was gentle with her the way she liked.
But a few months later, he had completely changed. His attitude was harsher, much more difficult to deal with. Often he came to her apartment in a bad mood, and would take it out on her, and when Yeseul tried to help, he would simply leave.
The girl wanted to break up with him, wanted to end their relationship, but the pure terror of what Cha Iseul could possibly do lingered in her mind.
After all, a businessman's son wasn't just an ordinary person.
Cha Iseul's father, Cha Jungwon was just as bad as his son. He was a manipulative man, his capitalistic desires fuelling even more of his ambition.
Yeseul's eyes dragged towards the clock. It was nearly nine o'clock and the girl didn't want to arrive sleep-deprived to her lectures the next day.
Her hands pushed open the doorway to her bedroom and her entire frame freezed as she saw what was on the bed.
"What in the-"
"Please don't swear, I really don't need to have a load of curse words running through my mind right now,"
The figure was a boy. An extremely attractive boy, casually draped over Yeseul's covers, hugging her fox toy. He himself had fox-like eyes, a curved mouth and dark blue hair pushed back with a hair band.
"Wait, I haven't introduced myself, have I?" His lips stretched into a warm smile. "I'm Yang Jeongin, your guardian angel,"
