[ROSE'S POINT OF VIEW]

"It's so. . .green," I stated, looking at the dark green leaves on the cutting board in Dimitri's kitchen.

He gave me a pointed look and said, "It's spinach, Rose. Don't they have that in Heaven?" I glared at him and turned a little, fluttering my wings. It hit him and he stumbled back, giving me a disapproving look. Just because I didn't know what the thing was didn't mean they didn't have it in Heaven. Eating was not a major part of Heaven, believe it or not. That was why I was growing fond of my time here.

"That was not necessary," he said, unwrapping a white block of something and taking out a grater. I moved closer to him so I could see better. He looked at my wings and asked, "Will you please put your wings away?" Because my

I scowled and retorted, "Will you please sew your mouth shut?" He threw me a tired look and handed me the white block. It was soft and cold. Then he handed me the grater. I frowned and asked, "What—"

He took it back and showed me instead. I nodded and smiled at him. It looked fun. But I still didn't know what the white stuff was. "It's mozzarella. It's a type of cheese," he explained as I grated the cheese. Once I was done, he kind of mixed a few things together and put it in the oven.

"Must be great to be human," I said, watching the food get cooked inside the oven with great fascination.

I could sense that he had a question that he wanted to ask me so badly. So I turned my head to him and said, "You know, if you have a question, you can ask. I won't behead you with my sword."

He titled his head a little and looked at me with those brown eyes of his. Something was bothering him. He opened his mouth to say something, but closed it.

"Rose, how—I don't know—how did you become an angel?" he asked. His question caught me off guard. My smile fell and I looked back at the spinach inside the oven again. My mind was searching for an answer. I couldn't really remember how I became an angel. I sort of woke up and Christian was there. Didn't know how I got there and it never crossed my mind. But deep down, something told me not to pry.

I swallowed and shrugged with a small smile. "I don't know," I answered. I probably sounded really stupid. I stole a glance at Dimitri and he looked confused. I stood up and faced him.

"I'm sorry. I wish I could give you a better answer than that."

"But how could you not know? Don't you ever wonder?"

I smiled at him and said, "That's the thing, Dimitri. It never crossed my mind. I know a lot of things, but not everything."

He nodded and gave me a small smile. "The old lady you saw the first day you got here? She is my grandmother. She only speaks when she has to. Creeped me out as a child," he said and we both laughed.

"Dimitri?"

"Yeah?"

"This might sound really stupid and silly, but what is your job exactly?" I asked, hopeful that he'd give an answer. He always carried a gun around, even in his home.

He shrugged and said, "I'm a bodyguard. I guard people. I keep them safe. Unlike you, I get money in return."

But we can change that. A jar of M&Ms a day would suffice.

I smirked and asked, "And protecting them includes dinner with them too?"

His cheeks turned slightly red. He started to move toward the living room, trying to avoid my question. I didn't mean to dig Lady Natasha up, but when the opportunity arises, seize it!

"Well?" I pressed, walking after him into the living room.

He shook his head and said, "It's nothing. She was just being nice."

I raised my brow at him and asked, "So it's tradition that you always kiss your bodyguard on the cheek?"

He stopped walking away from me and faced me, advancing. I started to step back.

"Rose, I would really appreciate it if you would give some privacy to my personal life whether you are my Guardian Angel or not," he said seriously.

"But don't you get it yet? I have become a part of your personal life. It's what I do. It's what I have to do. Why can't you understand that?" I asked, feeling upset. "It's my job to know you better than anyone, even Lady Natasha Ozera and she's not even the right one for you."

His brown eyes had specks of anger in them. "You may be my Guardian Angel, but you have no right to tell me who's the right girl for me," he said, emphasizing every word. But I do have the right.

"You're wrong," I argued, crossing my arms.

"Excuse me?"

"I said you're wrong. I do have the right to tell you who you're meant to be with."

"Alright. Then tell me. Tell me her name," he said, his voice rising.

I swallowed and said, "I don't know her name! All I know is that Lady Natasha is not the one fo—"

"You don't even know me that well! Natasha and I have known each other for a very long time and she is a wonderful woman."

"I'm telling you! She's not the one!"

"That's where you're wrong, Rose. She is the one. She knows me best and we get along together very well!"

My patience was long gone and out of the clouds.

"Stop being so stubborn and listen to me!" I yelled at him, feeling heated and so frustrated. He really ruffled my feathers this time. He didn't respond right away, but looked at me with his angry brown eyes.

"Go."

"What?"

"Go. Leave."

I uncrossed my arms, not believing what I just heard. I thought we were past that point.

Obviously we are back to square one.

"No."

"Do whatever you do. Disappear or turn yourself into a statue in a grave yard, I don't care. But I will not accept anyone or anything interfering with my life decisions. Until you understand that I will do what I know is best for me. You don't know me that well," he said, in a voice so cold.

My chest ached. Ever since I got here, I get a lot of chest aches which was weird because I was an angel. Angels don't get sick like humans do. I pushed him out of anger and disappeared from his living room.

"I'll kill him! I'll chop his head off and watch it burn in the fires of Hell!" I said, pacing angrily on his roof. "Stubborn human! I'll—argh!—I'll throw his body into the Valley of the Unforgivables!"

His words echoed in my head over and over. It was maddening. But nothing hurt more than the three little words he said so carelessly. I don't care.

My feathers were really ruffled this time. I didn't know why, though. Why did he have to care about me? I was just here to get my punishment. I looked up at the night sky and shouted, "Thank you! All of this frustration is more than enough to last me a lifetime!"

The angels above were probably smiling with glee at my frustration. I scowled and leaned against the chimney, crossing my arms. I took deep breaths and thought everything was unfair. Why couldn't I guard the princess Christian was assigned to? At least we were girls and it must easier to get to know each other.

With Dimitri, I felt like a child in his eyes. Not someone he'd take seriously. Everybody thought that I couldn't take things seriously, but they were wrong. I could. I did know how. Then I heard the front door slamming. Dimitri ran out of his house with his phone against his ear. He got into his car and drove away fast.

What happened? I wanted to ask him.

I took a step forward, but then remembered his words.

Disappear or turn yourself into a statue in a grave yard, I don't care. I sat down on his roof and glared after him. The other part of me screamed for me to go after him, but the other part also told me to leave him.

I went back into his house, straight into the kitchen. On the counter top was a glass container that had spinach with cheese. I didn't know what he made, but it smelled really delicious. On the container was a small note:

It's called baked spinach with mozzarella cheese.

PS.

I'm sorry.

I didn't know what made me do it despite of everything that happened, but I smiled. The anger I felt for him faded immediately. I grabbed a spoon and tried baked spinach with mozzarella cheese. It tasted heavenly. I loved the mozzarella cheese. I finished it in no time. As I put the container in the sink, the urge to go after him was undeniable.

I found him. He was at Lady Natasha's family home, but they were under attack. I went into the large home and found him pulling Lady Natasha into a room. The lights were out and the people that were attacking them were heavily armed. A man went after them and in my hand was my sword. I was not allowed to kill, but only to injure them enough not to hurt the human I was assigned to. I swung my sword and it gave his hand a little cut, causing him to drop his gun. He looked around frantically for his attacker also known as me. I pushed him and he flew back, hitting the wall.

I walked right through the door and found Dimitri holding Lady Natasha. I didn't really like the sight, though. It made me feel edgy. My anger toward him also seemed to have rekindled. He looked up and saw me. He was surprised to find me there. I didn't smile at him like I usually would.

"You need to get out of here. I'll distract them so you can slip out unseen," I said, sounding cold and distant for the first time.

He swallowed and nodded. He said something to Lady Natasha, I couldn't any less, and he opened the door with his gun in his hand. I went ahead of him and made black smoke rise up. It blinded the attackers' eyes.

I watched as Dimitri went outside with Lady Natasha and got into his car. I stood by the window and he caught my eye. Lady Natasha said something to him and he looked her. He nodded and drove off.

I don't think I'm going to like Lady Natasha very much.

Not exactly a happy chapter, but. . .we'll learn more about Rose and how she became an angel throughout the short story here. I'm really glad that many of you are enjoying this story and its concept. Stay tuned for the next chapter!
