Not again, Jeno thought.
The break up.
The rain.
The wreck.
She went through it all. Just like he did.
His eyes squeezed shut as he felt the rolling of the car. Is it time to actually die?
Then,
there was nothing.
Jeno slowly opened his eyes. There he was. In an open field. A blissful breeze brushed the back of his neck. He breathed in the smell of flowers and grass. It was an amazing day. A perfect day.
"Um, excuse me?" He heard someone say. A voice light and gentle the wind.
Jeno turned around, heart racing at the speed of light.
There she was. She looked pure and beautiful. So beautiful to him.
"Misook?" Jeno breathed, unable to grasp the fact that she's actually looking at him. That she actually talked to him.
Misook tilted her head. "How do you know my name? Are you an angel?" She smiled the brightest smile Jeno has ever saw. It was enough to make him return the gesture uncontrollably. "My guardian angel?"
"I guess you could say that. Call me Jeno."
Jeno brought her into a tight embrace. She held him back just as tight.
"Are you the one who died back in that car crash? Does this mean I'm dead, too?" Misook asked.
Jeno rested his chin on the top of her head. "I'm sorry. I wish I could have saved you. What a great guardian I am," he finished sarcastically with a great feeling of guilt.
"That's okay, Jeno. Sometimes you just have to let things fall into their own hands. Maybe there's a reason I died. Maybe that reason is so I could be here with you right now."
"Why would fate want us here together?"
"I always believed in the silly things like soulmates. Why else would we both be here right now? In this open field, just us? How come you were the one that watched over me? Maybe I died because you died, and we were meant to stick with one another. That's why you were watching me. We were supposed to be by each other's sides."
Jeno felt a prickling sensation behind his eyes. "You really believe that we're soulmates?"
Misook shrugged under Jeno's caring arms. "I would say so. Plus, I feel a nice fit here in your arms. Like two puzzle pieces meant to be connected. That's probably why I never had luck in relationships. I was looking at the wrong guys."
"I know what you mean."
Misook sighed. "It's time to go home, isn't it?"
"I believe so."
Misook and Jeno stepped back. Jeno held his hand out for Misook to take, then they walked down the field towards their forever home, together.
By each other's sides.
