I peek my head out of my bedroom, looking down either side of the hallway to make sure it was clear as I creeped out before walking quietly. It was the dead of night, everyone has definitely gone to sleep as I headed towards the kitchens that were finally free of the uptight and strict royal chefs.

After my day out with Loki, he had to go do some pretend king stuff and I figured why not make him a birthday cake. I had missed out on his previous birthdays and I thought this would be a fun way to teach him another Midgardian tradition.

Plus I just really wanted him to feel loved and not forgotten.

I reach the kitchen and gently closing the door, before lighting up some candles around the area. I got all the equipment and ingredients I needed, looking up a recipe that I could follow since I had no cooking skills whatsoever.

God, I hope this doesn't end up as a disaster.

I started making the cake, letting my phone play some songs on the lowest level as I hummed to the beat. I mindlessly danced to the rhythm while making the cake, mixing together ingredients before pouring it into a cake pan and carefully putting it in the oven. I started cleaning up the utensils as I waited for the cake to be done, taking it out of the oven once it was. I let it cool, making the icing and frosting, nicely layering up the final two onto the cake and writing 'Happy Birthday Loki' in green on the cake.

I swayed my hips as I sang lowly, picking up the cake with both hands and turning around. "Jesus fucking christ!" I yell out as I see someone, tumbling over my feet and I gasp as I try to save the cake. I feel someone catch me, their arm around my waist while the other held the cake safely. Loki was chuckling above me and I blush but glare at him for scaring me.

"You truly are amusing."

"How many times have I told you not to do that! I could've dropped the cake!" Loki gently sets it down but doesn't release his grip on me. "I worked hard on it!"

"What is it?"

"It's a birthday cake!" Loki looks at me in confusion and I notice him wearing a soft-looking black pj set that makes his eyes almost glow in the dark.

Oh fuck...

I shake my throat and clear my head-I mean- "God damnit." I sigh out, fanning away the blush but I know it was useless. "I made it for you." I look up at Loki as he points at himself in absolute shock.

"For me?" I nod, summoning over two plates, a knife and two spoons to settle on the table in front of us.

"A cake is a baked sweet that we make on days of celebration, like birthdays."

"Birthdays?" Loki was intrigued by the cake, reading the lettering on the top. "'Happy birthday Loki'. That's me." I chuckle at his childlike wonder.

"That's correct. A birthday is when we celebrate the day of someone's birth every year on the same day."

"Why would you do that? It seems a little frivolous and such a waste of time."

"Well, we do it to show that the person is getting older but to celebrate them as a person cause we love them." I grin as I summon over a lighter, sparking the candles aflame which trances Loki in awe. Even I was lowkey fascinated.

That's pyromaniacs for you.

"You do this, every year?" I nod as Loki questions with a soft voice.

"I missed out on celebrating your birthday the last couple of years."

"You did this, for me?" Loki's voice cracks slightly and I nod. "But my birthday isn't even close by..."

"I thought why not bake you a cake to make up for those lost birthdays at least. I didn't want to miss any more of yours." I clear my throat, cringing at the fact that I had to sing. "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you," Loki looked at me with wide eyes as I sang softly. "Happy birthday dear Loki, happy birthday to you." He teared up as I smile up at him, gesturing to the cake. "Now you make a wish in your head and blow out the candles." Loki looks at the cake, back at me then back at the cake before closing his eyes for a brief second and blowing out the candles.

"Are all your Midgardian traditions as sappy and foolish as this?" Loki chuckles as I cut him a slice of the cake, passing him the plate.

"Honestly, yes. We're mushy and sentimental people. We cherish our memories and our loved ones."

"Thank you (y/n)." Loki says as he set the plate, turning to look at me. "This is the most thoughtful gift anyone has given me." He hugs me tightly and I squeeze him back.

"Of course Loki, I care about you." Loki holds me for a while and I let him, sighing happily in his warmth before he sets me down.

"When is your birthday-"

"-I'm not a great cook so I hope the cake doesn't taste too bad. I didn't have much cooking experience back home." I cut Loki off and he blinks at me before trying the cake.

"It's lovely (y/n)." I sigh in relief, trying some myself.

Eh, not bad actually.

I hop up on the counter and Loki joins, sitting next to me as we ate our slices of cake. It was a comfortable quiet in the kitchen until I remember Loki scaring me. "Wait, how long were you standing by the doorway for?"

"Long enough." Loki chuckles lowly and I blush. "Enough to see your adoring and silly little dance moves darling." I turn red and I groan in embarrassment.

"Lady (y/n)?" I look up from the book I was reading as someone knocked on my door, standing up to unlock it to reveal the maids from before.

"Yes?" I stare in confusion at the bundle of cloth in their hands.

"There is a celebration planned for tonight and Thor has kindly requested you join the festivities."

Thor?

Why did he ask for me?

He didn't feel bad for the last time he asked me to the last get-together with his friends, did he?

"Oh sure. What's the celebration for?" I ask as I take the clothes from the maid's hands.

"We are commemorating Loki and Frigga tonight, as we do every year." I nod and the maids let me get ready for the night.

Loki really is milking all the glory he can huh.

I chuckle as I set the clothes down on the bed, revealing a full-length red gown with a gold corset and gold underlayers. It was a solid red with various gold trimmings, sequences and beading around the choker that attached to the long cape-like sleeves.

This is one of a hefty dress... damn...

I shrug and set it back down on the bed, going to the bathroom to fill up the bathtub. I strip and settle in, sighing out from the heat as I got clean and I waved over my phone to play some music.

I lean my head against the bathtub, my back towards the bathroom door as I poured in some sweet-smelling oils and petals, getting all fancy. "Deep in my bones, I can feel you. Take me back to a time only we knew. Hideaway."

I sat up against the edge of the bathtub once I was done, bending over to unplug the drain. I was humming softly to the music, turning around to stand up but I screamed as I saw Loki looking over me with a smirk on his face.

"What the fuck!" I shriek and quickly cover myself with my arms, using my powers to start controlling things to fly across the room and hit Loki to attack him but he dodges them easily. "Get out!" I blush red, feeling my heart going crazy from how Loki eyed me up and down with that stupid mischievous glint in his eyes.

I quickly use my powers to bring over a towel and I wrap it around me. "Wait-(y/n)-OW! Stop! I'm sorry-ow! Ok, wait-" he gasps as objects continued to hit him, making him stumble away from the doorway he was leaning on.

"Loki! Get out!" I yell at him in embarrassment as he narrowly misses some items but stumbles back into my bedroom, using my powers to slam the bathroom door close.

How long was he standing at the doorway for!?

"Not long enough darling." I gasp and look behind me to see Loki looming over me, his hands brushing back my wet hair as his touch sends shudders down my spine. "You are a sight that I was fortunate to experience." My eyes widen as he chuckles lightly against my cheek, his fingertips brushing down my arms that tightly held the towel.

"I-I thought I-"

"-a duplicate darling." My eyes widen.

"You haven't been here this entire time have you?" I mumble out and Loki steps back, shaking his head. "Ok, can you leave so I can get dressed?"
