Letting Go
Lily Xu Adachi's POV:
After BC Sol's victory,Kris decided to give another day of break for everyone in order to celebrate the team's win. Valt and the others were all cheering and celebrating with excitement and glee while I sat by the side watching them have fun.
Unknown to them, after the match with Wakiya,I kinda injured my right arm's wrist. It was painful but also bearable,I just did not want to worry the others so I kept quiet about it.
At the same time,I also did not feel like celebrating, since this day always brought back horrible memories I wish to forget.
After all,who can easily forget the day when their parent died.
Standing up,I decided on what I was going to do.I left the cafeteria and went into the forest,my forever comfort and peaceful place.
As I was walking through the forest, travelling deeper as I did,I came across Free who was doing some pull ups as he grabbed a tree branch.
"Free? Why aren't you with the others celebrating? You deserve it." I asked, looking up towards at him. There was a slight silence.
"What about you? Shouldn't you be there as well?"
I asked a awkward question and I got the same thing back.
The two of us have really changed, back then,we would talk with each other for endless hours and now we could barely even have a conversation.
"Is your wrist okay?" He asked, letting go of the branch, standing right in front of me as he said so. Our two dark orbs of eyes staring right at each other."You over strained it during that last match with Murasaki."
"I'm fine." I replied with a laugh, trying to distract him. Without any warning,he grabbed my wrist and gave it a slight squeeze. I froze and cringed at it while wincing in pain.
"For someone whose been acting you sure aren't a good liar."
"I just ain't good at lying."I muttered through my teeth,my head leaning backwards while staring at the gorgeous blue sky as white fluffy clouds drifted along without a care in the world. When I looked back towards my wrist,I saw Free wrapping it up with bandages."Don't over strain it next time." "OK"
Turning my head,I happened to see a small bouquet of white flowers, more specifically,Lilies, leaning on the tree which Free was previously training om.The flower from which my name was inherited from,I could even clearly remember the reason why I was named that way.
My father always mentioned that my mother adored and simply loved Lilies,in name meanings,it meant innocence, purity and beauty. One of the many things my parents wanted me to become. I sighed. If only I gotten to know more.
Curious,I asked."Free, why do you happen to have flowers with you?""Why don't you see it for yourself."he simply replied, not answering my question, walking before standing by my side,he bent down and used one hand to pick the bouquet up.
Out of no where,Free used his empty hand to grabbed my right hand with his left, our fingers interlaced as he pulled me up and started leading me somewhere.
Free De La Hoya's POV:
"Her hand's warm."I thought. They still had a similar warmth compared to the past eventhough her hands were still small. I could remember clearly, almost everywhere we went,we would always be holding hands even when we explored the forest.
"Today's Mentor Adachi's death anniversary." I said, breaking the silence, keeping my gaze towards what is in front of me. The whole reason I got the flowers were to pay my respects towards my mentor,no longer addressing him as uncle.
When the two of us got over a bush,we arrived to see a small stone grave in front of us. Above it was a frame picture of a male in around the age of twenty and thirty,he had messy dark raven black-like hair with light blue tips at the end. Black eyes which were a splitting image to Lily's own.
Letting go of Lily's hand,I walked forward and gently placed the lilies next to the grave. I then took a few steps backwards before bowing.
Unknown to even Kris,I have been coming here every now and then to speak with my mentor,it may sound crazy to some, but somehow he always had hints which answered his questions.
I looked over my shoulders expecting to see Lily still standing there, probably hanging her head in constant guilt. But too my surprise, she was not there.
Lily Xu Adachi's POV:
As Free looked behind him,I took a big leap of faith as I stride forward towards the grave. Staring at the frame picture of my father,I picked it up,taking a closer look at it at the same time.
Bringing it closer to my heart,I tightly hugged the photo of my late father. Tear droplets once again streaming down my face as I let out a soft yell.
Words escaped my mouth in a hoarse tone.
Free De La Hoya's POV:
"Sorry,I'm sorry dad. Sorry that I couldn't visit you for all these years."She cried out, clearly heartbroken by the guilt she has been feeling all these years. It felt like deja vu all over again. Her posture was in the exact same to when she cried in front of Mentor Adachi's coffin.
All of a sudden,I felt a water droplet hut my hair, tilting my head to look at the sky,I saw dark clouds forming as it began to start raining heavily. I watched as the droplets of rain water fall onto Lily, for some reason,as the water went down her hair, pink dye came off it as her clothes were then stained.
My eyes slightly widened at the sight of the all too familiar brown coloured hair.
After all the pink dye completely went away, her wet brown locks remained as Lily proceeded to stand up. Her fringe covering her eyes, her hands still tightly wrapped around the framed photo.
"Are you going to run away again?" I asked, keeping my same poker face.
Lily Xu Adachi's POV:
Staying silent,I placed back the photo of my precious father back into its original spot. Picking a single lily from the bouquet,I slightly folded its petals, making it into a mini umbrella of some sort. I then placed it over the the photo to prevent it from getting more wet from the rain.
Turning around to look at Free, rain still falling over the both of us as I shone the biggest smile I could ever muster.
"Thank you for bringing me here,Free."
Free De La Hoya's POV:
I stared in slight shock from her statement but more importantly, her smile. An image of Lily as a kid quickly flashed in my head before leaving. That amazing smile she always wore every day,it still existed.
Deciding to be direct like usual,I took a quick step forward,I used both hands to engulf Lily's small figure into a tight hug. To others,it would seemed out of character, but to me.
I felt like my admiration and love towards my best friend still remained till this day, something that was never extinguished as I grew.
Lily accepted the hug and wrapped her hands around my shoulder, tipping her toes up as she did so. It was just like when I first got Drain Fafnir,my partner.
Except now I was much taller than Lily who was way much shorter than me. Being a person of few words,I hugged her tighter to show my feelings towards her through my actions and not words.
Eventually we broke the hug and suddenly, everything went dark for me. Turns out, something was placed over my head which I proceeded to take off.
I saw Lily without her jacket and realised that she had placed it over my head without my acknowledgement. "The rain's starting to get much heavier, wouldn't want BC Sol's ace blader to get a cold."she explained, that one smile on her face even if her hair and face was completely drenched in rain.
"She's too good for this world."Was all I thought.
After all that, the two of us started heading back to BC Sol as we laugh and chatted about several ridiculous things we did as kids.
Lily Xu Adachi's POV:
"Honestly,I'm really thankful for Free." I thought to myself as I held onto my now brown locks. When the two of us arrived at BC Sol,it was easy to sneak by the others as they were all still celebrating. We then bid goodbye before heading to our different dorms.
I then recalled about something Sasha told the Valt,Rantaro and me a few days ago during dinner time. I found a great sense of irony from it.
Flashback...
"The Guardian of the forest?"I asked, raising an eyebrow at the mentioned of my secret nickname I got from multiple occasions.
"What's that?!"Both Valt and Rantaro exclaimed in question, food stuffed in their mouths.
"Its a creepy legend that's passed through BC Sol."Sasha explained.
"They say that in the depths of the forest of BC Sol,there is a tiny cabin where a small child and her father lived in. But the two were brutally murdered, some say that the spirit of the revengeful child continues to lurk the forest as she scares off any trespassers who dares set foot in the forest. Some even said they saw what the child look like."
"What did the child look like?!"Valt questioned, clearly interested yet scared about the legend.
"Rumours say that she's a female with extremely short brown hair, dark black eyes. If she hadn't died, they said she would probably be the same age as Free." Kitt added in,also aware about the legend.
Hearing the story made me want to tell them the truth. The truth of my history and past. But I couldn't.After all, knowing them, their gonna freak out a lot if they found out this 'child spirit' was having dinner with them right now.
Maybe next time...
End Of Flashback:
Staring at my reflection,a pair of scissors in my hands.I realised that I couldn't keep running away from who I really am.At least that what the legend and Free was trying to tell me.
Raising the pair of scissors.
"Snip-"
Kristina Kuroda's POV:
While the other members were still celebrating.I was doing some paperwork while Trad informed me about the blader's current skills.
"Valt Aoi has potential,he barely uses his head but his improvement rate is really quick. While Rantaro has really good adaptability."
"What about Amy?"I asked.
Trad swiped his tablet to look at Amy's stats."I expected much from her but from the last match against Wakiya Murasaki, she proved even more that she had an extremely impeccable strategic- thinking which might even match Free's."
"The way she thinks...remains me of a certain person." Trad commented.
"Of who?" I asked out of curiosity.
"They call her the queen of chess." Trad replied,in deep thought about something."But its impossible, she couldn't have had a child, she's been missing for years."
"Queen of chess?"
"Yeah, they say she's legendary in strategy thinking, never losing a single chess match in her life."
"What's her name? Where did she came from?"
"She goes by the name of Kinuko Naki, born in Japan." Trad explained, showing me a last taken photo of the female. The queen of chess had gorgeous green eyes, but what caught me off guard was the colour of her hair,it was the exact same colour to that of Lily's hair.
"But Amy Watanabe bares no resemblance to that of Kinuko Naki." Trad added on as I stared at the tablet. Thoughts racing through my head.
Suddenly,a bam sound of the door slamming open was heard.
I was quickly snapped out of my thoughts to look up to see a girl that of the height of Lily. She was wearing a white shirt on the inside,a black jacket over her shoulders while a red scarf draped around her neck, her bey launcher and bey pouch attached to a belt which she wore around her waist. Black leggings and a pair of black denim shorts worn over before ending it with a high cut ankle boots.
What really caught my utmost attention was her face filled with determination and fighting spirit, her black orbs of eyes were ready for anything while her brown hair laid by the side of her face, not even reaching her shoulder.
"KRIS! I'M BACK!" She exclaimed,a ginormous smile on her face as she happily walked in,a confused Trad looked on.
I grinned at the sight and stood up.
"Welcome To BC Sol,Lily Xu Adachi"
