Chapter 16

The rustic knight walked slowly down the path to the small cottage. The stone arc had moss and vines growing to reach the ground. The abandoned house was nothing more than an illusion; there were greater things within, if only the Iron Knight was spell worthy. He sunk his claymore into the ground. The knight folded his arms, metal sliding against metal, as he stood think of a way in.

Yaguil looked through his castles window, watching the rustic figure fold his arms. The claymore jammed in the ground. Yaguil had been around for over a millennium, sense the dawn of time, and he knew that this knight now sought his life. It was at this time where Yaguil cursed himself, knowing the spell he cast upon the armor was a mistake, armor invulnerable and impervious to all his spells on hand. He only hoped his messenger had made it to the right ears, without the blade of proficy the wizard's life was in parole, he was nothing more than a sitting duck waiting for the leopard.

Senyela glanced back looking at Kane as he tossed his chainmail over his shirt, he seemed to take his time armoring up.

"Have ye slept yet?" Senyela inquired.

"No, I'll sleep when I have time, right now, I don't have time." Kane replied.

"No wonder ye're sluggish, it took thee three minutes to throw your chain mail on."

"And my shirt and short sword," Kane said turning around.

Senyela glared at Kane, with disbelief of his argument, "Ye need to sleep or ye will be slow and useless in the impending battle."

"Not all of us have a luxury of rest. I have matters to attend to, and people to protect." Kane replied.

"Ye have someone in thine life?"

"Yes, a girl, who seems to become ever more like a daughter to me, I'm just old enough to be her father."

"And how old are ye?"

"Thirty-eight," Kane replied, opening the door for the damsel.

"And who else is in need of thine protection?"

"You, until you've fully recovered."

"Should I be flattered or insulted?" Senyela said in shock.

"I would hope that you felt neither, I rather not encourage either."

Senyela leaned closer to the man; her nose inches away from his chin, "And why is that?"

"Because I rather not endanger the people around me, especially the ones I care about." Kane replied turning away, as he walked through the door.

Senyela titled her head, before following the man down the steps and to the serving area. Men were drinking early in the morning, an employing take the shift for the owner, it couldn't have been latter than three in the morning, when Kane had woke Senyela, and it had only been fifteen more minutes sense then. Kane walked forward the boards creaking as he moved quickly. He placed his hand on the black beggar's white, torn clothes. The man instantly leaped, almost socking Kane in the jaw, as the rugged man moved his head back just in the nick of time.

"Enh, uh, what!" the man moaned.

"Take these." Kane replied, dropping the a few silver pieces into the beggar's pocket.

Senyela opened her mouth to speak but nothing came out, as Kane kept moving forward. She wanted to confront him about the last thing he had said, but was afraid to. She had felt a connection to Kane Reuben on the day they met, the way he had stood up for her stuck with her to this day. She didn't like it, she didn't want this, and she tried to lie to herself that she didn't admire Kane. She had feelings for the man, whether she liked it or not, she couldn't help but try and get closer to the man and the same seemed to be true for him. Kiilla Senyela just didn't understand why Kane tried so hard to push her away. One moment she was the only one he wished to talk to, which was a lot for the man of few words, and the other moment, he was trying to keep her at arm's length for whatever reason. Senyela hated herself for even thinking of the topic, but couldn't help it.

Kane took a deep breath, holding the door open as the damsel walked through the door frame. He hated every step; every step was another away from his top priority Yalin Vibe. His heart was twisted, he knew the damsel would much never likely talk to him after the death of Von, the Iron Knight, but he longed to see the lass once more. His honor for her protection was his top priority, and he knew now that he should have never left, it was a mistake. All he knew was that he had to kill the Iron Knight before he came for his cousin on the throne. This might not have been Kane's problem, but Kane had changed in the past few weeks, he had grown soft.

"Kane, what you said before..." Senyela tried.

"Was a mistake, I should have kept such things to myself." Kane replied, walking forward, to the reigned horses.

Senyela took the rugged man's hand, as he helped her onto her horse, "Kane."

Kane glanced up, finding the woman's eyes. Her sky blue eyes starred back, with a small tint of green in them around her pupal. The eyes of the damsel seemed to say it all as Kane listened.

"I don't think it was a mistake..."

"Before you continue, I think I should saddle my horse. Ember is looking pretty lonely." Kane replied.

Senyela looked towards the ground, her heart in her throat; it seemed that she was the one who had made the mistake. Kane saddle his horse as he set the past for their ventures. The two rode in silence for hours, as it started to rain. Senyela through her cloak over, head, the material blocking the water from the stead sprinkle, as Kane glanced at the woman.

"I apologies," Kane said.

"What would thine apology be for?" Senyela replied.

Kane sighed, "I avoided the problem, against all the training I have had, I have never been taught to deal with such things, and they're foreign to me."

"What problem?" Senyela asked, the horses, breathing a heavy breath.

Before Kane could reply, the giant eyes starred at the two travelers, their horses, startled, neighed, standing on their hind legs, halting the two's progression. In front of them was a T-Rex, the terrible yellow eyes blinked, as the head lifted off, from the cliff edge. The horrible roar rang through the air, the rancid breath of the creature polluting the nearby air. The giant crooked and unformal teeth had a dirty yellow look as the animal opened for a bit of the ambushed travelers.

Kane leaped back, jumping off his horse, landing on his feet, as Senyela fell down, her back slamming on the ground. The giant snout flew right over Senyela's body, the mouth hovering just half an inch from her chest. Kane sprang into action, taking Senyela by the hand Lifting her up quickly, as possible, the T-rex went for another lunge, more well planned, as Kane took the bow off Senyela's bow, grabbing an arrow and launching it within seconds. The arrow flew through the air blindly, hitting the T-rex's snout.

"Run!" Kane yelled.

Senyela didn't argue, even though she didn't like that Kane had her bow. She ran back, Kane following close behind, gaining on her as they ran. The remaining horse could now be seen in the distance, Ember rushing through the woods to escape the predator. Kane jumped, bouncing his foot off a tree trunk, and grabbing a branch as they sprinted forward. He had taken another arrow from Senyela, aiming the T-rex's eye. The arrow hit home, blinding the T-rex one side of its head. Senyela suddenly stopped realizing Kane was no longer with her. The man stood at a branch in a thick, tall tree, climbing higher. The T-rex now charged at Kane as he climbed, the man being at eye height with the predator.

Kane neared the top of the tree, haven climbed it in a few seconds, barely under a minute, as he glanced down, looking at Senyela like an ant. He was just a few yards shy of the forest top, when the creature opened its mouth to engulf the rugged man. Kane leaped forward, taking his butcher blade out of its sheath. His body slammed against the T-rex's upper snout, as he started to slip into its mouth. The former assassin slammed his metallic weapon into the snout of the dinosaur, halting his progress, from falling. The animal roared from the pain, shaking its head furiously. Kane held onto his blade with all his strength, withstanding the vigor of the T-rex. The rugged man tried pushing his blade in further as it slid against the T-rex's head like warm butter. Kane slammed his hand in the gash of the animal's snout, keeping his body there while he rapidly jabbed at the monster to get closer to its brain, repeating the gruesome process, until he reached his destination. The former assassin finally had the chance he had been waiting for, as he thrust his blade into the brain of the T-Rex.

The giant body slowly gave away, before suddenly slamming against the ground, Kane keeping his balance, as he wiggled on the falling animal. If not for his barred short sword, Kane would have been flung to the side, upon impact. Senyela looked at Kane amazed, he had said he could do it, but to see it happen was something else entirely. Kane gazed into her eyes, her bow slung over his shoulders.

"Are you alright?" Kane asked his eyes showing signs of worry.

"No," Senyela paused, reaching over Kane's shoulder taking her bow back, "you have my bow."

Suddenly the ground trembled, as another giant figure approached. In the distance, a man at least fifteen feet tall with a giant club came by; he was a little taller than half the size of the T-Rex. His shape was identical to a man in every way and form.

"I ask thee, did ye kill my hunt?" the giant roared.

"What was your hunt?" Kane inquired, hiding Senyela behind him, his hand on his butcher blade.

"The Rex was my hunt! My honor, did ye slay my hunt cousin?" The giant replied back.

"Indeed I did, but the honor may be yours." Kane answered.

"I can't take another's honor, little brother, where are the rest of thine men?" The giant inquired.

"It is only me. I was the soul slayer of this animal. I had no option of assistance."

"I'm impressed, little brother. Indeed impressed enough to keep thee alive, for thine great feet. But make no mistake this is out of respect, one hunter to another." The giant replied.

"May I ask your name?" Kane replied, as the Giant gripped the T-Rex's tail.

"My name is Brugnot, from the house of Brail. May I have the same privilege little brother?" The giant replied.

"I am Kane Reuben from the house of Abram." Kane replied.

"House of Abram, such a name is new to my ears, is it still true that you be my cousin in race?" The giant asked.

"Yes, we are thine cousins." Senyela spoke up.

"Ah! A woman you protect?" Brugnot replied with greater amazement.

"Indeed," Senyela replied as Kane opened his mouth.

Kane glanced at the woman; he knew she was fully able of protecting herself. Kiilla Senyela knew something Kane must not. The giant's seemed rather hostile, but still not outright blood thirsty monsters as Jack and the Bean stock painted them out to be.

"Well! Women have a strange power over a man, giving them strength to do remarkable things! Still, I'm impressed hunting cousin; you have killed a Rex, and protected thine damsel." The giant said, stopping his work on the T-Rex, "I would like to boast of thine strength, would you join me for a drink, of your deed tonight?"

Kane glanced at Senyela, "We don't have that time."

"Giants are cousins to man, we branch from the same origins. They typically are more tempered than your average man, though they are just bigger men in most other ways. I think we should join him, and supply up for are journey, and get another horse." Senyela whispered back.

"I'll trust in your judgment. But I must ask, why do they have horses, they are too tall to ride them." Kane asked.

"I'll tell you later."

"Indeed, we will join you, for a boast." Kane replied.

"As long as you do as ye say, and give me the honor of the kill!" The giant replied.

Kane and Senyela followed the giant a ways off, until his camp came into the distance. Horses were penned like chickens, A triceratops on top a fire, as other giant's sat around eating, being a foot or two higher. Off to the distance were much smaller giants, being no more than ten to eleven feet tall from Kane's perspective. They runts of the camp wore nothing but a long cloth to cover themselves. Around each shoulder, there was a giant burnt emblem on their arms. All the giants looked around seeing the human's come along.

"Brugnot, what business do our cousins have in thine presents?" A giant asked yelling out to Brugnot.

"They come to celebrate my victory on good terms. I have hunted my rex, this one I have hunted for three days, and found it. Upon slaying the beast, I stumbled upon my cousins, and figured to treat them a piece of my hunt, for a constant remembrance of the strength of giants." Brugnot replied

"Ey Brugnot. Do just that, give them a fine wine also, and give them a pleasant time, to remind them of a bound we share with origin. Kin is kin." The giant roared.

"Ey, I will, Tribe Master."

It was late in the night when Senyela looked towards Kane; he hadn't taken a single sip of the giant ale, the best ale in the world. She herself had taken a few sips, of the very heavy drink. She refused to take more, to avoid becoming drunk. A drink was quit relaxing for the lass, with the worries she currently had. She glanced up at Kane once more, the man catching her gaze as well.

The giant's fire rose to their torso, burning a few good feet taller than Kane. The glow and heat of the fire seemed to nearly blast the skin off the man at first, until he had taken a few steps back.

"Why don't ye drink?" Senyela inquired, "This is the finest ale in the world."

"I have my reasons, mainly, because of the effects of the alcohol." Kane replied.

"What?" Senyela replied.

Kane placed his hand on his head, "That's right; you don't understand what I just said. I forget I come..."

"Say what?" Senyela asked, as Kane cut himself off.

"I was just saying that Ale is bad for the body." Kane answered.

"I disagree. I think Ale is one of the finer things in life, and why ye don't drink it is beyond me."

Kane chuckled, knowing that Senyela was ignorant of the technology of his world, "Alright, I will respect your decision."

Kane stood with his arms crossed as Senyela shook her head. The man wondered why Senyela really wanted to stop here. Kane had seen this pit stop as a waste of time. He opened his bag, finding the dragon blood Sir William the Strong was caring on his person. During their travels, he remembered the knight sharing the dragon blood was quit a mysteries and magical thing, repairing dragon's bane, restoring the blades sharpness and strength. Kane was just glad he had it now; he would need it to create the blade that would kill the Iron Knight, or Von Vail.

"The Tribe master would like a word with you two." Brugnot said, looking back at the two humans.

"Alright," Kane replied, as Senyela followed close behind.

The giant lead them to his tribal master, the humans glaring around, as only the runts of the giants were excluded from the tribe's celebration. Senyela knew why this was, but couldn't help but feel bad. The giants looked down on the runts of their tribes, calling them half-giants, and disgraces. They didn't have any of the redeeming qualities of neither human's nor giants, and were in all senses outcast. Kane looked up, at the giant tent, standing about twenty five feet above the ground. Brugnot opened the tent flap, as the two humans walked through, looking at the tribal master.

"I have a message from a dear friend of mine to help you, upon your return to my camp." The tribal master replied, pouring himself wine into his flask.

"So you think that it was fate that brought me to your camp?" Kane replied.

The giant chuckled, his deep tone booming like a bass from Kane's world, "Fate is funny isn't it? But I received as message from the wizard days ago."

"This man doesn't happen to be Yaguil, does it?" Kane asked.

"Indeed, it seems the wizard looks for a man from another world. He said to look for a man named Kane Reuben in this area; we had looked for you for about half a week, when luckily, Brugnot brought you to me. Upon asking your names he gave me yours."

"It appears he has found me before I found him, how convenient. When may I speak with him?" Kane replied, "I have a sword that needs forging."

"Indeed, Kane Reuben the blade must be forged by the cyclops." The giant said, turning around.

The giant smiled, he was definitely bigger than a giant. His chest was a soft golden color, and his eyes were a deep brown. He wasn't nearly as harry any of the other giants, but his expression seemed to wait for their answer. His greying, dark brown beard grew down, with a naught, keeping it together. His bald head glared with the lantern hung in his tent, with his three fingers by his side.

"So where are the Cyclopes? Let's approach them and asked them to forge the sword." Kane replied.

The giant gave out a boisterous laugh, "I am the cyclops you will need. I am a colossus, bread between a cyclops and a giant; I have the talent you seek. My father of course was a cyclops and taught me all that I needed to know about smithy."

"I give you my graduated."

"As do I," Senyela smiled.

"Girl, watch your place." The colossus snapped.

"She's with me, and I hope you'd give her the same respect as me." Kane replied.

"Little one, you are lucky I owe Yaguil, or I would cast you out now." The colossus said slightly enraged.

The colossus calmed him before speaking again, "Apologies, my father was a tempered man, I seem to have inherited it from him. My name, is Kluebbian, I thought I should let you know. I have sent for one of my men to wander with you, where you go next, you will need his help."

"I think we have plenty as is." Kane replied.

As Kane finished, a giant runt came through the tent flap, he was half the size of the colossus. The loin cloth around the ten-foot tall half-giant said it all, as he came through with his club.

"Master Kluebbian. I come at your orders." The half-giant said.

"Yes, Goalith, you are to accompany your cousins, to Yaguil's castle." Kluebbian replied.

"Yes." Goalith replied, smiling.

"I now answer your question Kane Reuben, ye are to free Yaguil from his own castle, I believe the presence of Goalith will shock if not terrorize your opponent. The Iron Knight stands watch. Ye are to leave in the morning, for tomorrow ye fight." Kluebbian said.

Kane let out another sigh, the last thing he needed was another head to look after. He was sure that Goalith was not week to any extent, and held a great intimidation factor. He also knew that Senyela could take care of herself but where he was going, it was way over their heads. Kane had been trained for fifteen years of his life, two more years than the legendary Spartan his training was based off, if anything this was something he had been trained for, uncommon and unlikely circumstances only the Tribal project was created to deal with. He himself didn't even fully understand this world, yet he was the only one with the training to fight an in killable man.

The Iron knight watched as the sun slowly rise into the sky, it had been two days sense he stood watch, the revolving of the sun marking three. Ants crawled over the knights iron cage, munching on the rust. He stood like a metallic statue without a sound. His shallow breath unable to be heard through his Iron mask, made the armor look hollow. The knight stood, just waiting, the wizard would have to open the door sooner or later, and sense it had been three days, the knight had figured out when the gap in his enchantment was, most likely the time when he laid down to sleep. It was just after the sunset, but before the stars conquered the sky. By that time, this night he would charge through the arc, in hope that it would welcome them. The breeze blew, and the grass danced, as the knight spotted a familiar face in the distance and with them a half-giant.

"Up ahead, cousin." The ten-foot tall behemoth mumbled, with his wooden club over his shoulders.

"It's the Iron Knight," Kane whispered to Senyela drawing her bow.

The knight stood there, placing his hands on his claymore. He simple watched as Kane drew his sword from behind his waste. The knight didn't know if it had been days or weeks sense he killed the people that now stood before him. He became curious on how they survived, and why they traveled with a half-giant.

"It strikes me as odd, how is it that ye survive?" The Iron Knight stated.

"With magic," Kane replied, sizing up his enemy.

"Ah, of course, how else, your wounds were fatal."

"Can I hit him now?" Goalith inquired as Kane held up his hand.

"You also bring a giant, am I really that impressive?" The venomous voice replied.

The simple stood there as the other three readied their weapons. He wasn't really in the mood for another fight, he was, busy this time around. Regardless, he gripped the handle with his right hand, drawing it out from the dirt, and placing it to his side, slowly swinging his blade up before gripping it with his other hand. He stood, blade by his side, ready for an attack.

"So, Von, why are you here, for revenge?" Kane asked.

"Von, is a name, I haven't heard in a while. A name I have forsaken." The Iron Knight replied.

"The king's dead, you've already won, why do you still fight." Kane inquired, "And kill innocence."

"I have long sense dismissed my foolish thinking. I fight now for power over the same family who destroyed me. I have a score to settle, justice to be dealt. If the father cannot take punishment, so must the son. I've already fought you all; I would advise you to leave, while I'm feeling generous."

"Not happening." Senyela replied, "When you thrust your sword through my heart, you declared war!"

"Is this really what you want?" The knight asked.

It was nearly instant, but sure. The giant wooden club Goalith held slammed into the Iron Knight, knocking him to the ground. The force of the blow sent him at least three feet away. The knight slammed his claymore into the ground, getting up off his back calmly, though filled with rage. The knight was too slow, as another unforgiving blow came directly at him. The charging half-giant's blow hit the knight's chest, causing the body to fly a good yard in the air, before falling down before slamming against the ground.

"Kane, run through the arc," An imminence voice whispered in his head.

Kane glanced around quickly, finding now one but Senyela beside him, "Why should we run through arc?"

"We're running through the Arc?" Senyela asked, letting another arrow fly.

"Kane it is Yaguil, I am speaking telepathically through thine head. Run through the Arc and I will let thee in." The voice said.

"Through the arc," Kane yelled, "Hurry!"

Senyela backed away confused, as she entered the arc. A blue wave rippled in the air as she walked backwards through the stone arc. It was within a twinkling of an eye, when her eyes beheld the stone interior. The castle was more of a tower, with a stair well leading in a spiral to the top. Behind her was another stone arc, with the wall sealed off by stone. Along the stone stair way was an iron rail. There were a few windows alone the way. The floor she walked on was made of the same stone of the walls, with small weeds and moss growing on it. This seemed like more of a prison than a castle. A noise was made when suddenly the ten-foot giant came through, his arm bleeding with a deep gash.

"The rusty knight got me." Goalith announced, holding his arm, dripping with dark red ooze.

"Where is Kane?" Senyela asked, with worry, as she looked at Goliath's wound.

"He's fighting." The half-giant replied.

Senyela rushed to the stone arc, placing her hand against the sealed entrance, but nothing. She tried to phase back through, but couldn't. In anger, she slammed her fist against the wall, her whole hand aching from the force of the blow.

"Kane..." Senyela growled in rage.

Kane looked at the knight, as he slammed his claymore once more against his blade. They seemed to be evenly matched, and Kane knew what he was up against this time, though he knew he would eventually lose. There was no way of killing this guy; he had to run to the arc when able. The knight shifted his sword in his two hands.

"You shouldn't have attacked me." The deep venomous voice replied with an overhead swing.

Kane leaped back, just clearing the claymores range of death. Another blow came from the left side, as the offered a regrouped punch to the face. Kane blocked his claymore, and took the blow to the face. The metal scrapped against his face, causing a minor cut under his eye. A drop of blood came rushing down, among all his opponents the knight was the only one to truly make him bleed. Kane knew this battle would be over before he knew it, if only he had a gun.

The enemy's blade came back round, Kane ducking to avoid decapitation. The blade came around quickly, the assassin seeing the blade, leaped back, but wasn't able to make the distance, the claymore jabbed into his abdomen. Kane clenched his jaw, the blood dripping from between his teeth as he spat into the knight's eyes. With little patients left, the knight threw his body to the ground, kicking him, as Kane groaned.

"Tell me if death is truly sweet." The knight said.

The claymore tickled Kane's neck hairs as the blade was cast further in the air. He needed to act quickly. Kane waited for the blade to make its way down, before, kicking the knight's knee out of place. The Iron Knight tumbled forward, his body slamming against Kane's back, as he lost balance. The knight's leg was completely fine, the force being the only thing causing him to tumble forward, a mistake Kane had seen often with the knight.

Kane slammed his short sword into the ground, as he limped his way to the arc, falling through to the other side. His body hit the hard stone ground as Senyela turned around, rushing to his aid. Goalith watched, holding his bandaged arm. Yaguil was there the jolly old man with alarm in his eyes as the Iron Knight walked through.

"Yaguil, It's been a while old fool!" The Iron Knight said, with a slight hiss.

"Not long enough apparently, you're still alive." The wizard replied, with his staff in hand.

The knight drew his sword letting it drop to his side, as he approached the wizard, "Your magic won't work on me. You made sure I wouldn't have the privilege of death. Your curse was flowed though, you fool. If I can't be killed then why didn't you think that I would come back and kill you?"

"You killed the king, and he delivers the punishment, I am under oath to obey the king, it is my duty to guild the kings of this land, for eternity, so do all such wizard do. But ultimately we are the wise men of the king's court." The Wizard replied.

"You failed wizard, why let me wonder? To provoke me ever more," The Knight asked.

"I have given the greatest curse to a man I possible could. Even if ye kill me, and thine cousin, it will not end thine pain." The wizard replied.

"Well at least I will have a little fun while I'm at it," the knight replied.

The half-giant Goalith stepped forward, looking down at the six foot tall man, with shoulders the same width. The giant runt gave him a venomous glare as it lowered its club.

"Move little one, before I decide to kill you too." The knight said.

"No." Goalith replied, as the claymore came around, chopping the giant's leg off.

On one knee, the giant slammed its club down at the Iron Knight, but to no avail. The Knight slashed at the club, with all his might, cutting the club in two. The knight wasted no more, time gripping the claymore with both hands, decapitating the giant's head from its body.

"Now that thine giant is dead, what now old man," the knight inquired, raising his hands to the side, "This isn't as fun as I thought it would be, nor as rewarding."

Kane gripped his stomach, as Senyela tried to remove his hand to rinse out the wound. The wizard starred back at Kane, he was the one how could he die now. The wizard gave thought provoking questions to himself, quickly before thinking of an idea.

"You're right most my spells are ineffective. But I don't want you here, go bother someone else!" Yaguil shouted, casting a magical portal on the floor of the castle.

The floor beneath the knight seemed to ripple as he fell through, casting him away. The Iron Knight saw a light at the end of the tunnel, as he exited the cave. He was atop a mountain, looking down, as he heard the growl behind. It was a dragon. The knight quickly turned around, watching the flames come towards him.

Yaguil rushed over, opening a flask with blue water pouring it on Kane's wound, as Kane gritted hit teeth. Kane didn't even yell to the intense pain, as his spit mixed with the blood in his mouth. Kane swallowed back, tasting the bitter taste of death. His head started feeling light, as he blinked multiple times, trying to stay awake.

"Kane, are ye alright?" Senyela asked, as the man, blinked his eyes open.
"I-I'll be fine." The man stuttered, as the wizard started bandaging him, "How long was I out?"
"Three seconds." Senyela looked back with whimpering eyes, a tear falling down her cheek into Kane's forehead.

Kane placed his pale blue hand over her cheek, as he whipped her tear away, "Tears are for the innocent."

It was a phrase he was taught while young. Father Abram had taught him such a phrase, when he was under the age of seven. He knew the Adam Abram was a corrupted man, twisting little boys into monsters, but he still gave words of wisdom.

"If only the innocent were to cry, then who is worthy of tears?" Senyela replied, as she gave a reassuring smile.
