Chapter 1

An explosion rang off, the blast damaging the space ship. Kane leaped out of his bed instantly, the sirens going crazy, fear striking his eyes as he glanced to his side. His heart leaped to his throat, Yalin was nowhere in the room. Kane rushed to the doorway, in his sleeping jumpsuit, yelling out for Yalin. He opened the door with the terminal, the door sliding to his right. He peeked both ways down the hallway, quickly brushing his glance for the young blonde woman. Sliding his back against the wall, he started his way to the women's bathroom. A shadow swept across the side of the white, steel walls, glowing with the red lights of the sirens. Kane suddenly stopped, holding his breath as the shadow brushed by him.

Kane suddenly attacked the shadow, the body slamming against the tiled, steel ground. The stealth generator turned off by the impact of the blow. The person's short sword fell by their unconscious body. The manly shape wore a black assassin's suit. Kane recognized both the suit and the short sword, the butcher blade, which was nothing more than an oversized butcher's knife. Kane crouched beside the body, quickly taking up the sword, as he continued on his way.

"Yalin," Kane let out, as a soft yell.

He peeked around the corner, the women's sign hanging over another steel door glowing with a pink light. Quickly, Kane rushed into the facility, his mind taking no concern for manners.

"Yalin," Kane shouted aloud

"Kane," the soft voice replied back in question.

Kane let out a sigh, "Yalin Vibe, am I glad you're alright."

Yalin walked out from the stall, hands gripped tightly together. Her green eyes were full of fear and her blonde hair a mess. She seemed pale, like if a ghost had chased her.

"Yalin, what's the matter?" Kane asked, "And what are you doing here?"

"Kane, they're here," Yalin muttered in reply.

Kane looked into her soft eyes, with his hardened expression, "let's go."

Yalin followed after Kane as she had done before. It was during her coming of age ceremony, she had just turned twenty, when her world turned upside down. Yalin's property and social standings were wiped away in a single day, as the assassins now hunting them, burned her palace and killed her family. If it weren't for one of her guards that day, Kane Reuben, she would have died. It was the only reason she followed Kane.

Kane's brown hair, spiked in style, gave him a rugged look complemented by his five O'clock shadow. His muscles showed well through his sleeping jumpsuit, even his legs showed definition. Why anyone would mess with Kane Reuben was beyond Yalin. The man was trained in five hundred different ways to kill a person and knew how to use almost ever weapon in the book. Kane had reached the age of thirty-eight three days prior to Yalin's ceremony, and though considered middle aged for most, his body was two years shy from its prime. Kane was born in the year 2967, on the planet Ka-Kadocsh, where the atmosphere strengthened male men to live an average of thirty years longer, for every year spent on the planet.

"Yalin," Kane said, with his hand held back.

Suddenly three invisible figures knocked Kane's head into the wall, knocking the man unconscious. Yalin didn't even have time to scream in fear, as the hidden persons snagged her. The voices whispered to each other, Yalin not quite picking up their words in the excitement. Her eyes traveled back to Kane. The stealth generators turned off, as one figure gripped Kane by his collar.

When Kane had woken, he found himself, tied with ropes, across his torso, head tilted to the ground. The sirens were gone, and the floor a pale gray color, instead of white. Kane knew he was no longer on the ship.

"Well, wakey, wakey," the male voice said, as Kane raised his head.

"You know, I'm just going to kill you, right?" Kane replied coldly.

The man's black hair flowed back into a mullet, as he adjusted his black suit. By his side, the butcher blade was hung. His face was clean shaven and had a "this is business", look. His brown eyes seemed to glow with victory, as he savored every moment before he replied.

"Nice to meet you too, my name is Aaron Gold."

"Well, Mr. Gold, I don't think you'll find my blade much of a greeting," Kane replied bitterly, his hands slowly tearing away at the thick rope.

"You know, for someone who spared your life, you're kinda being rude," Mr. Gold said.

Before Kane spoke back, Mr. Gold snapped his figures, as two black-clothed men brought out Yalin. Mr. Gold smiled as he brushed his hand off to his side, like some game show. Yalin was his prize, and Mr. Gold must have been behind the attack, both on the ship and the palace.

"I have a proposition for you – Kane, was it?" Mr. Gold asked.

"Why haven't you killed her yet?" Kane said eyes sinking to the ground.

"Okay, to business. Yes, I left her alive, to test my experimental, time machine. We've sent many things back, pigs, metal, heck even probes. But not a human", Mr. Gold paused glancing at Yalin.

"I see, what better way to destroy your enemy than with an additional benefit," Kane replied, watching Yalin struggle.

"Ah, you see my line of thinking Mr. Kane. That's why I ask you to glance behind you."

Kane glanced behind, finding the massive machine, with a giant gateway. Even in the year of 3005 could time travel be accomplished? Kane struggled more as he glanced back at Mr. Gold.

"Well, now she goes!" Mr. Gold clapped, as he laughed in success.

Yalin struggled as the men escorted her to the machine. One holding her tightly as the other turned on the machine. Both carried guns, and were well armed. Kane had to reach the butcher blade, as soon as he broke free. But it was too late; Yalin was thrown into the portal, the blue light flashing across the room.

Kane was enraged; ever muscle in his body tensing. Kane suddenly felt the ropes he had been working on snap, he was free, even if he was weaponless, Kane moved swiftly, thrusting his elbow into Mr. Gold's chest knocking him to the ground. He slammed his foot down, as he pried the butcher blade from his side.

"Bring her back!" Kane yelled pointing the blade at Mr. Gold's chest.

"I can't," Mr. Gold wheezed back, "but you could follower her in. I would hurry and make a decision before the time changes."

Mr. Gold held his hand, as he stopped his men from acting. Kane tried to make a decision.

"Well?"

Kane glanced at the powered time machine. It was now or never. Without another thought, Kane leapt through the portal, energy transferring him somewhere else. The light was nearly blinding. He was breathless for a short span of time.

"Kane, Kane! Yalin yelled, "Are you alright?"

Kane gripped his head, as he nodded, "Where are we?"

Yalin glanced around as Kane held his eyes shut.

"It's beautiful Kane." Yalin said in awe, "It's like nothing I've ever seen. Are we on earth?"

Kane opened his eyes, glancing around. Pterodactyl flew through the blue sky. The grassy plain seemed to move forever, with nothing but a tree line in the far distance. In the horizon could be seen a castle, unlike the ones from 3005, these were made of stone. In the far distance, a screech was heard, like no other animal simulator Kane had heard before, and he had heard every animal known to man.

Within seconds, the beast was spotted, as the pterodactyl flew off into the distance. The sheer mass and size of the monster was that of a small town. The scales, the wings, this was a dragon. Suddenly it hit Kane, this wasn't the past; this was a different dimension entirely. Kane had never known true piece, he recognized now that he was a valiant man. He originally was an assassin himself until joining in the palace as a guardian. His instinct to kill had seemed to slowly leave him as he watched over the young and innocent Yalin Vibe. Kane had changed, perhaps even into a better man, sworn to protect instead of kill.

"Kane" Yalin yelled in question, "Is that what I think it is?"

"Yalin run!" Kane shouted, as he gripped his blade in hand.

The ground trembled as the dragon slammed against the ground. The green scales seemed to shimmer in the sunlight with a glow. The four massive limbs dug into the ground. Smoke left its snout, in a stream, as its mouth opened, flames rolling off to the ground. Kane was awe struck; he had killed pretty much every living thing, but a dragon, the size of a small town? This was a new and unforgiving challenge, one that would potentially kill him.

"Now," A voice said, echoing in the distance.

Spears were suddenly launched at the beast, slamming against its tuff scales. The steel seemed to be useless against such a creature. Kane let out a shout as he ran into the fray. Knights leaped to action with swords and shields and archers in the trees fired arrows.

"Don't give it a chance!" the voice shouted again.

Yalin looked form the tree line, watching as shinning figures attacked the dragon in the field. How could any army of men take a dragon out without a tank, or missile? Or maybe even a nuke. Yalin shook her head, wondering if she should keep running or wait, in hope for Kane to make it out alive.

Kane hacked with the alien steel, cutting through the dragon's scales. The beast let out a roar, as it swiped its hands and tail. Fire rolled out of the dragon's mouth, melting some of its enemies. The dragon fire was so hot, the trees untouched by its flames started to bake. Even Kane coward to the ground, as the glowing heat was felt through the dragon's chest. Kane threw his blade into the dragon's chest, as the deadly flames oozed down around him.

"Keeping going men!" the voice yelled as a man charged the dragon with his spear on his horse. The spear sank right into the scales, as it tore a chuck of the dragon's flesh with it. The beast roared once more, as it fell to the ground. The grate amount of damage dealt to its legs rendered it unable to stand. Kane picked himself up and watched as the steel figures hacked at the struggling dragon's neck. He retrieved his blade as another man gave the last hack to the decapitated dragon.

Yalin was suddenly gripped, hand over mouth as a voice spoke softly into her ear. Yalin listened closely, but she couldn't make out any words. The figures grip softened as a man's eyes looked at her. The blue eyes seemed to glow, with the dark black war paint covering the area around the eyes. The man seemed to want a reply, but Yalin didn't even know what language he was speaking.

Kane cracked his neck as the men clad in steel armor walker towards him. Kane took a fight stance as a man approached him, spear held against him.

"Who be ye, and where doth though come from?" The voice from before asked.

"I am Isaac, Steel." Kane replied.

"Isaac Steel?" The man replied back, "And what be ye your business?"

"I have no idea." Kane replied.

"How does a man not knoweth his purpose in a land he has lived or traveleth to?" The man asked.

"My purpose is to protect a young lady, with blonde hair, and green eyes. We are seeking for refuge. And honestly, I rather not fight any of you today."

"If ye truly be an honest man, where be the lass, with what ye call blonde hair."

"Yellow air, is blonde hair. And when the dragon appeared, I told her to run to the tree line for refuge. I hope to now go find her, if that is alright." Kane replied.

The man lowered his spear, as he removed his helmet. His long black hair came to his shoulders and his beard soft against his baby face. If not for his beard, some would see him as a weak man. In the armor the man was a giant, and his torso was twice the size of Kane's.

"I am Sir. William the Strong, and I have been hunting this dragon for three months, if it is refuge ye seek, I suggest ye go north of here, towards the castle in the horizon. For thee lass, ye seek, no need, my archer has found her." The man said, pointing at the moving figures in the distance.

Kane gave a nod to Sir. William, as the man then looked back to his men. Kane jogged his way to Yalin as she glanced around nervously, with her arms folded. Kane's body filled with relief once more. That was twice he had almost lost his highest priority in his life. It wouldn't happen again.

"Kane, do you know what language their speaking?" Yalin asked.

Kane scoffed before replying, "Yalin, this is old English, they don't speak the Galactic language. Lucky for us, I know all the languages known to man, part of my training. I just hope, I don't have to speak Latin, or Spanish. I'm a bit rusty,"

Yalin looked wide eyed at Kane. She knew that Kane was previously an assassin before working as a guardian for her parents but she never would have guessed Kane knew every language in the book. Yalin still had trust issues with Kane; he was, in all senses, alien to her. She had only read about Kadocshions, or people from the planet Ka-Kadocsh. They were all trained to be some sort of offensive force, police, soldier, and even assassins. Why Kane would even think of becoming a guardian was beyond Yalin.

"Well, are you ready to go?" Kane asked.

"Yeah", Yalin mumbled, "Sure."

Kane glanced at her, before turning around towards the knights, once more. All of them stood there, some laughed and smiled, as other seemed to joke around. Kane knew their comments couldn't have been about the dragon. Kane motioned for Yalin to follow as he walked past the knights. It was hard to believe, this was a new beginning, a new world.
