Peyton's POV

"But why do I have to move schools?" I whine. My name is Peyton Gryslypuffclaw Lily Reed and I am turning twelve this year. I'm suppose to be starting my second year at Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, where my mum was the Charms professor and deputy head mistress. She used to work at Durmstrang, but quit when a former death eater became headmaster and was offered a job at Beauxbatons.

"You know why" mum reminds me as she packs her trunk. I'm on her bed.

"How does cousin Sirius escaping effect us? Why did you even accept the job at Hogwarts? When you have a great one already?" I ask her.

"It's not just that, besides your uncle Remus will be there along with the Weasleys, Aunt Nicole, and you'll finally be able to meet your god-brother" she tells me. Harry Potter is my god-brother, I've heard a lot about him from the Weasleys. But have never meet him in person. "Besides your father, aunt and I went to Hogwarts. We loved it and made amazing friends" she states. "Besides you're friends with Ginny and she'll be in your year. You may even be in her house" she adds.

"When do we leave?" I ask sighing in defeat. Mum pulls me into a warm hug.

"I know it's hard, but it'll be good for all of us. We leave tomorrow and will settle in. Before going to Diagon Alley to get your school supplies. We can even get you a pet" she tells me smiling.

"Really? My own pet?" I ask her excited. Sure we had family pets growing up. We had dogs and now have a family owl. Called Orion, he is a tawny owl.

"I think you're old enough to look after one now" dad states as he enters the room.

"Dad!" I cheer and rush over giving him a tight hug. I'm a complete daddies girl. "How was work?" I ask him.

"Great, Charlie has really come a long way" he states. Charlie is my older cousin on mum's side. He's a dragon tamer like dad, and dad was his mentor. "All packed?" he asks mum.

"Almost, just the books and Peyton's soft toys" mum tells him.

"I'll go do the books, why don't you both relax until dinner" he suggests. Mum agrees and goes to go over her curriculum for the year. Professor Flitwick finally retired and she was offered the possession of charms professor at Hogwarts. She took it, as it was always her dream to work there.

Anyway I go to my room and finish packing my soft toys. I'd been putting it off. But can't do that anymore. I get an owl from Ginny. Her family is returning from Egypt and will be spending the rest of the school holidays at the Leaky Cauldron. I go tell mum.

"That's great, we'll be staying there also. As the house is not yet ready for us" mum tells me. I cheer and go write back to Ginny. Sending the letter with Orion.

(Next day, Leaky Cauldron)

We arrived and settled into our connected rooms. I decide to go explore Diagon Alley and get my school books and pet. So mum gave me a pouch of money telling me to be back in time for dinner and to not go into Muggle London. However, as I left our room I hear a familiar voice yelling. "I'm warning you, Hermione! Keep that beast away from Scabbers, or I'll turn it into a tea cozy!"

I reach the stairs to see my cousin Ron holding his rat. While a bushy haired girl held a ginger cat. She must be Hermione. "It's a cat, Ronald. What do you expect? It's in his nature" she tells him.

"Ronnie!" I shout and rush down. I throw my arms around his neck hugging him. "How's my favourite cousin and less favourite rat?" I ask him smiling. I never liked Scabbers, he creeps me out. He also hides whenever mum is around.

"Peyton" he says surprised. He returns the hug before we pull away. "When did you get here?" he asks me.

"Just now, I'm going to Diagon Alley. Do you want to give your cousin the grand tour?" I ask him.

"Sure, let me go put Scabbers somewhere safe from that pig with hair first" he says pointing at Hermione's cat.

"Looks like a cat to me" I tell him. He rolls his eyes and I turn to the girl with the cat. "Hi, I'm Peyton Reed. Ron's cousin on his father's side" I tell her smiling.

"Pleasure, I'm Hermione Granger a friend of his from Hogwarts" she tells me.

"Oh I heard about you, your the brightest witch in your year right?" I ask her. She blushes.

"That's her" a boy with messy black hair and glasses says as he joins us. "Thought I heard you both, great to see you Ron and Hermione" he says smiling.

"Hi Harry" they say smiling.

"You're Harry Potter?" I ask and he nods his head. "Thought you'd be taller" I state. "I'm Peyton, Ron's cousin. I'm transferring to Hogwarts this year" I tell them.

"That's great, hope you're in Gryffindor" Ron tells me.

"We'll find out when I'm sorted" I state. Ron puts Scabbers away and Hermione does the same with her cat Crookshanks. We then all go to Diagon Alley as Ron tells us about Egypt. "How is Billy?" I ask him.

"He's good, showed us a few tombs. The twins tried to lock Percy in one. Pery is head boy now" Ron explainss. We get my books and robes. Then go to the magical pet shop.

"What are you going to get?" Harry asks me.

"We have a family owl, so don't really need an owl. Don't fancy a toad. So I thinking of getting a cat" I explain.

"Get a rat" Ron tells me.

"You know I don't like rats" I remind him. Which isn't entirely true. I just hate Scabbers, other rats are fine. But I won't tell him that.

"Why don't you both go get the rat tonic for Scabbers and I'll help Peyton find a cat" Hermione suggests. We all agree and she leads me over to the cats. "See any you like?" she asks me. I don't answer as I look at all the choices. Long and short haired. Black, white, tabby and Siamese. But a tortoise shell cat with two different coloured eyes catches my eye.

"She's the one" I say smiling and Hermione calls an employee over. He takes the cat out and hands her to me. I head over to the counter and pay for her. As well as buy some supplies for her as Ron paid for his rat tonic.

"What will you name her?" Harry asks me.

"Unique" I say smiling.

"I hope she's not like that mad cat Hermione has" Ron grumbles. We return to the Leaky Cauldron. To find my parents and the Weasleys sitting together about to eat lunch. We join them and I sit next to Ginny. We start to talk about Hogwarts. Maybe this will be good, a fresh start for all of us. Sort of. I pray nothing goes wrong this year and that they catch Sirius Black soon.
