Detectives and Cats- 3
He kept his head down, the doorknob twisting before the metal door was swung open, Mumbo keeping his eyes glued to the ground as Doc slammed the door behind him, storming into the room and sitting down across the table from the former detective, Mumbo's wrists in handcuffs. He didn't want to look up from the ground. The ground was safe, because it wouldn't stare back and judge Mumbo for the mistakes he made.
"Mumbo. Look at me." Doc growled, Mumbo holding back the tears that began to fill up in his eyes. He nodded, the former detective slowly looking up and making eye contact with the Chief of Police. Doc didn't look as angry as Mumbo expected, although he knew it would change quickly.
"So..the pearled cat." The police captain said while trying to make conversation, Mumbo looking back down at the floor. He wanted to forget that Grian ever existed, but he knew that would never happen. He was going to jail. His life was ruined. And it was all Grian's fault. Doc cleared his throat, speaking up once more.
"I didn't know you were...I-I mean I support you, but you really fell for him? What did you see in him..?" Doc asked, the room awkward and the conversation quickly dying. Mumbo was feeling uncomfortable by their conversation, and Doc could tell. The man let out a sigh, leaning back in his chair and looking at the doorway, keeping his gaze averted from Mumbo.
"We found the footage in Grian's apartment," he said, Mumbo flinching as he referred to the cat by his real name. It was almost like he was traumatized, any brief mention of the cat seemed to result in Mumbo struggling to cope with the lies he had been told, and how he had been manipulated.
"It's okay Mumbo," Doc said, his keen eye noticing the former detective's struggle. Slowly, the raven-haired male looked up, tears flowing down the side of his face. Doc smiled, looking down at the files in front of him. "The cat was simply used you. We watched from the cams as he put that necklace on you. We think he was planning to flee the country after you took the blame."
Doc stood up, moving over to Mumbo's side of the interrogation table with a silver key in his hand. He unlocked the cuffs around the former detective's wrists, Mumbo smiling as he wiped the tears from his eyes. Doc offered his hand, the nervous male accepting it, the police captain helping Mumbo stand.
"There's one more thing," Doc said, pulling out something from his navy blue blazer, extending his hand and showing off the gleaming gold detective badge. He nodded when Mumbo looked at Doc for guidance, the detective slowly accepting his badge back, tears of joy slipping out of Mumbo's empty eyes.
"We want you back on the force, Mumbo," Doc said, turning to leave the room, his hand on the doorknob as the chief of police looked back, his glare suddenly becoming harsh and cruel.
"We just need you to pass a simple test first."

The room was dark, the heat starting to get to Grian's nerves, as he sat still, handcuffed to the table. He had never been caught before, he was always too quick and too smart for the police, and yet he got carried away by his emotions.
What started as flirting to try and get away ended up turning into flirting to try and get closer. How Ironic, Grian thought to himself, lost in his own mind until the door opened, a bit of light leaking into the room, as a shadowy figure stepped into the darkness, flicking on the lights.
It took Grian a couple moments to get used to the light, as he had been sitting in darkness for quite some time, but as his vision was returning to him, the thief's eyes went wide, Grian smiling as MumboJumbo sat down across from him.
"Mumbo! I'm so glad you're here, I really needed to talk to you and-"
"Save it, the only thing I want to hear out of you is your confession." He said in an empty voice, the detective narrowing his eyes at the the jewel thief. Mumbo circled around the table, Grian trapped as the detective's glare seemed to burn into the back of his head.
"I thought you and I could work," Mumbo said from behind the cat, Grian keeping his eyes glued to the one-way mirror, knowing full well that Doc was behind it. "I thought that maybe, you weren't so horrible..." Mumbo chuckled a bit, heading back to the other end of the table and slamming his hands onto the metal, looking up with tears of rage falling down his cheeks.
"And yet I was WRONG. You never cared! You needed me as an escape! You MANIPULATED ME and I can't take it anymore!
I loved you. And you used that to your advantage."
"Mumbo, please-"
"Enough! We have witnesses, evidence, and all we need to lock you away for the rest of your life! So make yourself useful for once and SHUT UP!" Mumbo screamed, his ears going red as more and more tears fell down his face. Grian couldn't help but cry. He didn't care if he was thrown in jail. He cared that MumboJumbo hated his guts, and that the detective would always hate him.
Doc and Iskall walked in, the police captain chuckling to himself, with Iskall trailing behind him. The Swede took Mumbo into the corner, the detective keeping his head down, Mumbo's expression unreadable, despite the hot tears that slowly continued to stream down his face. Iskall tried to comfort him, telling the detective that there were more guys and girls out there that he would love, and yet Mumbo wasn't interested in love anymore. He just wanted to get the job done.
"See that?" Doc said while grinning ear to ear, gesturing to the empty detective who stood in the corner, Mumbo's eyes glued to his dress shoes. "I broke him so that you can't manipulate him anymore."
"You're going to jail Grian, and your little 'boo' can't help you now."
