Chapter 25

When I reached the train station I felt like my legs were going to crumble from under me. I staggered my way to the ticket booth and bought a one way ticket to Indianapolis to find Regan and help her with getting this psycho Suzy and her equally psycho boyfriend out of my life for good. My train boarded almost immediately after getting the ticket in my hand and paying in all the cash I had on me. Hopefully I would be able to find Regan in time so I can get a ride home. If I don't I'm screwed. I found the nearest train car and took a window seat close to the back and it never felt so good to actually sit down and let my legs regain their consciousness. As I let a deep sigh leave me I reached down into my open bag to a picture that caught my attention. I pulled it out and it was one of my favorite pictures of me and Joey holding up a trophy that we won from the Caring Hearts Adoption games a year ago. I put the picture back inside of my bag and looked out the window as the train began to pull away from the station. The lights on the car dimmed and the reflection of what I thought was my father made my heart jump. When I went to face him he wasn't standing next to me at all.

"God Carly get it together!" I said to myself as I sat back.

I was beginning to wonder if he had noticed I was gone. I hope not. It would kill him if he found out I ran off again. Hie old Purple Heart wouldn't be able to handle it. Sometimes I wish he would just let me follow my own path. I have good intentions and I'm not trying to hurt him but I have to end this myself! Letting out another sigh I sat back in my seat and closed my eyes for the rest of the trip just to keep myself from a anxiety attack. Although the train ride was only two hours is honestly felt like twenty minutes. I woke up to the train pulling into the station and slowly coming to a stop.

"Last stop Indianapolis metro station." The conductor called.

I stood up and tossed my bag on my back and exited the train. I had know idea which way I should go but the best way to do that is to think like Regan. The station is downtown and if I were her the first place I would start is the police precinct. But which one? Something tells me I should have thought all of this through beforehand.

"Nice going shit for brains." I huffed to myself as I looked in both directions.

It was going to be a long shot but at this point I know I'm never going to hear the end of it. I pulled out my cellphone from my coat pocket and called the only person who would come and save my skin even though I'd get cussed out in the process.

Regan's POV

Sitting at the desk thumbing through reports of Melissa's last known whereabouts my phone began to ring in the drawer.

"Prince if you're calling to argue I don't wanna hear it." I hiss as I reach in a grab the loud ringing device.

Without even checking the ID I answered and snapped at the person on the other side out of pure assumption that it was Prince.

"Listen Purple nerd I already told you that if you don't like what I do then we don't need to have any more discussions about it! I'm only trying to help you out!"

"Regan! It's not my dad it's me!" I heard a young voice say on the other side as she giggled.

"Carly? Oh! My god I'm....sorry you didn't have to hear that." I said empathetic.

"Regan it's cool. My dad can be a bit of a hotheaded jerk. I get it. Listen can I talk to you about something?"

"Sure kiddo what's up?" I asked her as I sat back in my chair with a smile.

"Ok but just....promise you won't freak out on me ok?"

"I promise! I mean it's not like you ran away from home or anything." I said with a smirk.

That's when the sudden silence filled my ears and I quickly sat straight up in my desk chair.

"Carly did you run away?" I asked trying to mask my anger in the event that she says that she didn't.

  "Weeeellllll....."

"Carlyn! Why would you do that?!?!? You know you were supposed to stay put. If Melissa and Dwayne find you before I find them who knows what can happen to you! Does your father know????"

At this point I already know the answer to my own question but it wouldn't hurt for confirmation anyhow.

"Ummmm.......yes?" She lied over the phone.

"What do you mean yes Carlyn? You seriously told him you ran off?"

Now I let my anger show not only because she didn't do like I asked her to but also because she lied to me.

"No Regan that's dumb why would I tell him that!?!?!"

The deep and heavy breath I let out of my chest as enough to cause a category two hurricane. It was giving me an immediate headache being on the phone with this girl and now my job has been doubled.

"Where are ya kid?" I kissed.

"Hey! You promised not to freak out Regan." She said in a panic.

"Oh sweetheart when I find you I'm gonna do way more than freak out. Now where are you so I can get you to someplace safe."

"I'm at the Indianapolis metro station. Not sure which gate though."

"Figures. This is why you should have stayed put Carlyn!"

"I know I'm sorry! I just wanna help that's all."

"We'll continue this discussion later. Just......find the McDonald at the station and stay there. I'm on my way. AND DONT MOVE!"

I hung up the phone and tossed it back in my purse before snatching it out of the desk drawer. I slipped it over my body and threw on my black hooded coat throwing the hood up and ran out of the police station quickly to get to Carly before trouble came looking for her. Now the clock was really ticking.

Carlyn's POV

It took me a few minutes to roam the station and find the small McDonald's. Too bad I spent all my money on my ticket. I sure could go for an apple pie or two. I sat down at one of the tables by the door and checked the time on my phone.

"Alright Carly. Just stay here." I told myself.

Knowing me I'll always get that itch to wanna get up and do something. So to avoid getting yelled at some more I did exactly what Regan said. I sat still and stayed put. At least I tried until I saw a familiar face that I was hoping not to see so soon.

"Holy shit it's him." I said softly and threw my hood over my head to cover my identity.

My heart was racing a little as Dwayne walked passed. I could tell he was packing too. Sticking out of his waistband was what looked to be the butt of a 9 Mag. What can I say when I listened to enough 50 Cent to know what certain guns looked like. Thank you 50 and thank you google images! Once I knew he was clear out of sight I texted Regan.

"Saw Dwayne. Where R U? Plz hurry!"

Now that I'm too scared to move its best I stay put.
