Chapter 6

Making my way up the steps to the second floor was determined to talk to someone about this strange situation. Since Tony was nowhere to be found the only other person I knew I really could talk to about it was daddy even though my worse fear was that he'd beef up security. I'd rather take that chance than not say anything at all and something bad happen. I finally made it to the studio and was about to knock on the door when I heard Joey from the top floor calling for me.

"Carly! Where are you? Are you hiding again?" He called from the balcony.

"No bud! I was about to talk to daddy! Ya hungry?"

"I am! Is it stuffed peppers?" He shouted.

"At dinner time kid." I giggled.

I heard his little feet come down to the second floor to meet me by the studio door. Joey ran at me full speed and leaped into my arms.

"I can't find my roger rabbit Carly." He frowned as he wrapped his arms around my neck.

"Well where did you have him last?" I asked as my forehead fell against his.

"I don't remember. The last time I saw him was right before we left the room with the big pillows in it."

I felt a hint of trouble coming on when he said that he might have left his Roger rabbit in the foo foo room after dad had said we shouldn't go in there. I made a quick decision to have him wait outside the room while I go and look around for his beloved bunny. We had just passed the studio door and I told Joey to stand and keep watch while I went inside to look around. I went inside and looked around quickly shifting pillows slightly and looking around the room on the shelves full of awards and trophies. I looked up in the sheer scarves thinking that maybe he had tossed it during our moment of fun. I couldn't find that little sucker anywhere and I was getting frustrated.

"Where is that stupid bunny?" I huffed still looking around. Suddenly there was a quick tap on the door followed by it opening.

"Carly! Hurry up! Dad is coming!" Joey whispered.

I ran out of the room and closed the door quickly taking Joey's hand and making a mad dash down the hall into the living room before we were caught. We got inside and I fell out on the floor out of breath as Joey sprawled out on the couch.

"Did you-did you find him?" Joey asked out of breath.

"Sorry buddy. I didn't see him anywhere." I said to him as he sat up.

"Carly we have to find him!" He squeaked.

"We will I promise. Maybe if we take a break and give you a little lunch he might turn up."

Joey sighed as he stood to his feet.

  "You promise Carly?"

  "Pinky promise little dude!"

We locked pinky to pinky and went down the hall to find daddy just coming out of the studio.

"Hey you two what are you up to?" He asked holding his hands behind his back.

"We were just about to go downstairs so Joey can eat." I said.

Daddy smiled and patted Joey on his head as he held his other hand behind his back.

"How was your nap little man?" Dad had asked Joey.

"It was ok but I couldn't find my Roger." Joey replied sadly.

"Aw I'm sorry buddy. Did you try looking for him?"

"We looked everywhere daddy but we can't find him." I said hoping that he wouldn't think that I looked in his award room too.

He got down on one knee and pulled Joey closer to him.

"Well I have something for you that might make you feel a littler better." Dad told him and he took a finger and tapped Joey on the nose.

  "You do?" Joey asked.

"Mmhmm but you gotta close your eyes first."

Joey closed his eyes and to add to extra affect put his hands out. My dad pulled Roger rabbit from behind him and placed him in Joey's hands.

"Alright buddy open those blue eyes of yours." He said softly.

Joey opened his eyes to find his stuffed companion back in his possession at last.

"YOU FOUND HIM! THANK YOU DAD!" Joey shouted with joy.

He wrapped his little arms around daddy happy to have his favorite toy back.

"Where did you find him?" I asked out of curiosity.

He stood to his feet taking Joey up in his arms with him.

"Now where do you think I found him missy?" He giggled.

Suddenly it hit me. That's how he knew about yesterday.

"That's how you knew we were in there! For a minute I thought you had cameras in there or something." I joked.

"No but I do have the house mic'd up in every room so I can make a song from anywhere I wanted."

My face went blank as I looked at him.

"Dad! That's creepy. I'm gonna need you to not just record us and stuff unknowingly." I said scrunching my face.

"Well I did get some pretty good sound bites of you two playing in there that I might use in a song one day." He said with a smile.

Dad put Joey down and gave me a hug.

"Now go give this guy something to eat and I'll meet you downstairs."

I took Joey by the hand and we made our way down the steps and to the kitchen. I unwrapped his sandwich and placed it on a plate in front of Joey as he bounced his toy on his lap. When he saw his sandwich he immediately stopped playing and shoved the end of the bread in his mouth. I giggled as I watch just as dad had walked in.

"Slow down buddy you're gonna choke eating like that." Dad said patting Joey on his head.

He went over to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of apple juice and opened it. Before he took a sip I could feel his eyes on me. I didn't want to look at him because I felt like he knew that there was something on my mind.

"How is it JoeBoy?" I asked as I kept my eyes on Joey.

He tried talking with a mouth full of food but couldn't get anything out so he just shook his head in delight.

"You alright Carlyn? You look like something is bothering you." Dad asked as he still stared at me.

"I'm fine dad why?" I asked.

  "You sure?"

  "Yeah! All good!"

I gave him a small smile and stood up making my way out the kitchen and to the lobby. Before I knew it daddy was right on my heels.

"Carlyn somethings wrong. I can see it. What's up?"

I turned to him and tried to hide my feelings but I read like an open book. I let out a sigh and attempted to find the right words.

"I guess I'm just.....tired." I said hoping that he would let it go.

"Come on now talk to me. Did something else happen at the mall today?" He asked as he placed his hands softly on my shoulders.

There was no turning back now I should just come out and say it.

"Well....something did happen today but I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing."

"Come upstairs. We'll talk about it in your room."

Dad went to the kitchen to tell Joey to come upstairs when he was finished eating then came back and took my hand and led me to my room to have this awkward talk that I wanted to have but was too unsure how to start it.
