Holding Tight
On February nineteenth
Bits of purple caught my eye
Steps to take a closer look
Crocus flowers did I spy
Garden beds are waking up
Knocking on the doors of spring
Longer days of winter sun
Add colors to season's swing
When I step outside at dawn
Bird calls flow among bare trees
Territories must be claimed
And mates found with springtime pleas
Warmer days are creeping in
Between spurts of winter storms
Hold tightly to my patience
Knowing gardens will transform
