"What do these sketches show you?"
"That you are way too keen and detailed?" Monroe snarks, causing Bree and the rest of the girls to laugh.
Harper wrings her hands, her mood today having been quiet and anti social. "That women are badass no matter what they wear."
Despite hearing the false attempt at being cheery, Enyo smiles. "Exactly. We are capable of anything, we have no limits."
"Damn right!" Raven agrees from the doorway, causing Enyo to roll her eyes and say, "Do you just lurke in the doorway whenever i teach?"
Flipping her off but nudging her head in a way thats become familiar, Raven leaves so she can get the last words, "you wish!"
With class now dismissed, the remaining female delinquents leave the room, Enyo calling on Harper to stay behind, Monroe waiting for her in the doorway. Harper fidgits with her sleeves, eyes tired and downcast but trying to defy her own mood. "You wanted a word?"
"I would like more than a word, try a much needed conversation." Enyo replies in her teacher-concern voice.
Harper seems to deflate at that, she has her good days and her bad days, the days where she can joke around and be herself and the days where she's feeling like getting out of bed wasnt even worth it.
Enyo wants to help her feel better in any way she can. "You know why we had this topic in class today? Why i asked for all the girls?"
Shrugging, Harper looks to Monroe to see if she has the answer.
Monroe, arms folded, sees the military tactic. "To keep the morale high."
Enyo nods, its true, the girls have tried to remain strong just like the boys, the latter all going for a place in the guard except for Jasper. But Bellamy said he and Lincoln would keep an eye out for them and suggested that she bond with the girls. She doesn't disagree.
"I have a motto for each person that i get to know." Enyo tells Harper, piquing her interest.
"Oh yeah, whats mine?" Harper whispers, her eyes growing more tired and wet.
Enyo smiles. "Do no harm but take no shit."
Harper breathes a laugh as Monroe agrees.
Enyo steps closer to her, hands on her shoulders. "My brother made me promise to get you out of that mountain and i kept my promise. But you meant a lot to him, that means something to me. So whatever you need, even if its just silent company, I'm around."
"So am I." Monroe declares, sparking pride in Enyo at their commarderie.
Harper looks stronger at their shared concern for her. "I wasnt the only one who got drilled in there."
"No but you were the first." Enyo states bluntly, and it makes her feel slightly better. "And you were the only one for a while."
Harper nods and looks away, trying to hold it together as much as she can. "Does it ever get easier?"
Stepping closer to her to convey her empathy, concern and seriousness, Enyo lies through her teeth. "Eventually."
If they sense that shes lying they dont mention it, and walk out of the room arm in arm.
Enyo heads to the place where shes been spending most of her time in camp, the mess hall. "You summoned me, Reyes?"
Raven limps around the newly discovered/ put together Rover. They had been foraging in the garage, where Lincoln had first been discovered as a reaper, and found the beaten, worn down vehicle. They had taken a truck too but other than that the rest might as well be scraps. But with Raven Reyes nothings off limits.
"Yeah i thought I'd introduce you to my almost complete project-"
"-Almost?" Enyo cuts in, mock scandalised.
Raven throws the grease rag at her smirking face. "Yeah asshole. Its a work in progress once your sarcastic comments stop and you offer an extra pair of hands."
Enyo raises her eyebrows but looks gleeful. "You know i have no idea what I'm doing right?"
"Nothing out of the ordinary for you then, right?" Raven smirks back.
They set off to work, moving around each other easily, Enyo passing Raven whatever tools she needs based off of her crude descriptions when she doesnt understand which tools. ("I have no idea what that is."..."The one that looks like a torture toothpick.")
Under Raven's instructions, Enyo screws in the solar panels placed on the sides of the Rover to give it power while Raven handles the too technical side of it. Raven gives it power while Enyo builds up its armour. Theyve been doing it ever since the team came back with the vehicle, both enamoured with the machine, Raven for the distraction of a new project and Enyo for the fascination and possibilities it will enable. They work in silence, mutely aware of eachothers rythem and when they both decide to call it a day (always Enyo first for the pain in her scarring tissue and then encourages her friend to pick it up in the morning) sometimes they talk, bitch about their injuries and Enyo listens as she rants about everyone who expects her to be the invincible girl she was before.
"They expect me to do this, and fix that in short periods of time, as if my leg isn't screwed up anymore. Like I'm supposed to magically fix my leg like everything else around here." Raven rants, arms flailing in her irritation.
In regards to some things, things out of her control, Enyo stuggles to find the right thing to say. But thats when Enyo takes it upon herself to get control, know matter how small. "Do you want brutal honesty here?"
Raven snorts. "This is you we're talking about, why else would i complain to you?"
"I think people don't know how to operate around you, the way you are can be intimidating-"
"-thats their own damn problem." Raven cuts in flippantly.
"Rude." Enyo replies but carries on. "The only way to get help is to ask for it."
Glaring, the latina girl wipes at her grease covered hands aggressively. "I dont need anyone's help."
"Sure you don't, that's why you're not rushed off your one good leg." Enyo comments bluntly, walking away to go to her training.
If it was anyone else Enyo knows they would've been slapped for saying it, but Raven demands honesty and that is what she gets on a frequent basis. "How about we take the rover for a test run tomorrow so you can get away from them?"
Raven smirks, eyes intrigued. "Where?"
"Let me worry about that." Enyo smirks, walking away.
....................
"Wow." Bellamy breathes, awe and wonder taking over his normally worn out expression.
Enyo smiles softly, she was hoping for that reaction, this was one of the best hot springs that shes found on the ground that she's explored. Now she'd shown him her inner demons she feels like it is easier to open up to him a little bit more each day.
Taking in the glowing water in the darkening night, Bellamy remains speechless, his guard dropping a little more each second.
"Theyre hot springs, its where i go after i was dealing with Mount Weather." Enyo explains, setting her pack on the ground.
Bellamy quickly puts two and two together. "Why your hair was wet."
Enyo shrugs. "I needed to get clean after dealing with the bodies. I didnt feel like walking back into camp smelling like that."
He nods, taking his eyes off the beauty before him and sweeping the forest surrounding them. Weapon in hand.
Going closer to the edge of the bank, Enyo toes off her boots and socks, sitting herself down so she can place just her feet in the water.
Watching her from a few feet away, Bellamy shakes his head to clear his inappropriate thoughts.
"Relax, Bell. Even if my people weren't inside for winter they are superstitious about this hot spring." She reasurres, stirring her feet within the water.
"Why this one?" He asks, still a little unsure.
"Because we're miles from Trishana kru's glowing forest. Theirs is the only territory that glows so some think that something bad happened here." Enyo tries to explain, thinking back to what she remembers about it.
Tredding towards the bank next to her, Bellamy lays his weapon on the ground, mirroring her barefoot appearance. "You mean radiation from the bombs."
Enyo smiles at his sassy tone, maybe she got something right. "Probably."
The silence around them for once isnt tense or aukward but relaxing, even soothing after the growing numbers in camp.
"How many did you find at the station you searched for yesterday?" She asks, choosing a topic that won't ruin the mood.
Bellamy leans back on his hands, his guard almost down. "More than we expected. We're gunna search for more in the places that Kane talked about with Indra."
Enyo nodded along, its something she already knew about from Kane. "How's Monty and the boys?"
"They're coping, I think." Bellamy replies, watching his feet tread the water, which is undeniably warm. "The girls?"
Enyo thinks about their smiles that arent as rare as before, Monroe's commarderie and Harper's depression. "Harper asked if it ever gets easier."
She senses his gaze on her, feels the emotions he conjures from her with one look. "Does it?" She asks him, hopeful that he can give her a better answer than the one she gave Harper.
Seeing his earnest, sorrow filled eyes, Enyo scoffs at herself. "All my life here and i still dont know the answer to that."
"You do." Bellamy replies, more sure of that than he is of a lot of things. "You're honest with yourself about how things are down here but you're hopeful for your friends. For the future. You don't want your opinion to be true so you're not wrong either way. Like i said incapable of figuring things out."
Enyo's eyes pierce his soul, finding it difficult to name the emotion there. "That's insightful."
He ducks his head, like she knows he does when he's complimented and shrugs his normally tense shoulders.
She nudges him and smiles, which automatically makes him smile in return, both of them taking in the different coloured glows in the water.
"How'd you find this place? Its well hidden." He marks, observing the trees that have a dome-like shape over the hot spring, presenting a lot of cover from outside of this little haven.
Taking a minute too long to respond, she clenches her jaw as he glances at her. "My brother found them. Sometimes we'd find them together."
Bellamy lets her take a few breaths, sees that she needs to talk a little more. "This was his favoruite."
His heart softens at that, that she would bring him here, to share this with him. "Why?" He asks, tentatively.
"Because everyone else thought it was strange. And that made him think it was beautiful." Enyo whispers, wistful, content in the silence that follows.
Bellamy indulges himself a moment to take her in, her skaikru top from the hampers of clothing within the ark that shes taken to wearing, along with some pants to match. The only indictaion that she's a grounder in her appearance being the braids in her hair, all of the weapons on her and the way she carries herself. Like a soldier.
So, he's admittedly distracted to realise that shes started to strip her shirt over her head. "What the hell are you doing?" He stutters, astounded.
Enyo just rolls her eyes. "Taking a bath. You joining me or watching?"
He takes a little too long trying to get his train of thought back to give much of a response, so she continues to undress in front of him until shes down to her underwear.
"Even though you are the furthest from a prude, I will keep these on to retain your innocence." Enyo says, gesturing to her faded blue boxers and her ark issued bra. He'd only seen her wear her grounder bra bindings on her before, seeing something of his people's on her like that, accentuating her breats, all of her scarred skin on display and the blue of her boxers bringing out the paleness of her ivory skin, is definitely making it hard for him to think of her platonically.
"You coming in or what?" She called, now fully submerged in the glowing water, steam flaring from around her.
Seeing as they're taking time to get out of their own heads for a while, he breathes out, smiles playfully as he pulls his shirt over his head, trousers coming off too before he joins her.
Though he doesnt tread too far, he still doesn't know how to swim so when the water comes up to his jaw he tries to fight the panic and stay calm.
Enyo grips his arms firmly, her legs kicking swiftly to float near him. "Okay so i guess this is where i teach you how to swim. "
"You think." He snarks, his smile nervous.
"Trust me." And its then she can feel his panic go to ease. "And hey at least now i know where to take everyone...on trips to see the ocean to learn how to swim." Enyo replies, seemingly at ease in the water like a pro.
Bellamy still struggles with his nerves in the water until he gurgles half a litre when he opens his mouth to talk. She tries not to laugh but ultimately its no use, she figures he learns best after being motivated by a challenge.
And they continue to help eachother, until the sun goes down completely and a little longer. Until they both reason that even the warmth of the spring wont protect them from the winter air all the way back the longer they stay. They stay until their eyes are clear instead of full, until all Bellamy can focus on is how Enyo's eyes linger when she's supposed to teach him, until Enyo feels his eyes darkening over her skin. Until Bellamy no longer believes in the word 'platonic.'
