Enyo wakes up with a startling jolt; yet another nightmare that she's been enduring in a matter of hours. Its been 2 weeks now since Mount Weather yet it still feels like yesterday for her and those who suffered at the Mountains hand. The body in bed next to her is still fast asleep, and Enyo is grateful that her subconscious is aware of the girl even as she sleeps. Either she wakes up screaming or she wakes up as if she literally jumps out of her bad dreams, or more accurately; bad memories. Harper, the girl in her bed, stirs and rolls over groaning, pulling the sheets further over her head sensing that its time to get up.

Enyo rubs the lack of sleep from her sore eyes and reaches for her grounder clothing, taking in the room around her. It's Harpers room that she's in, and its obvious to Enyo that she hasnt made it her home; just the bed, clothes and papers scattered on the table and bed. And from what shes seen, it isnt that much different from the other delinquents rooms.
Hearing the silence that followed Harper not getting out of her bed, Enyo finishes getting dressed. "You know you can't stay in bed all day."
"I can try." Is her muffled response due to her face being buried under the pillow.
Huffing, Enyo pulls back the bed sheet to get Harper to react and actually look at her. It works.
"Don't you have guard training with Miller in ten minutes?" She badgers her again, nudging her with a poke.
Harper heaves a sigh, remembering that Miller made a bet with her that she would be late. "Don't you mean learning a bunch of shit i already know?"
"Thats the spirit." Enyo teases and gets a pillow to the face.

After they leave Harpers room, they walk together to the mess to get their breakfast, queueing up and then taking their trays over to sit with Bellamy and Miller. Harper starts to quiz Miller on the Guards training seeing as he has his dad for good tips, while Bellamy occasionally answers one of her questions from his days as being a cadet in training. Enyo watches them, interupting with snarky comments whenever she feels its needed.

Eventually even Miller can't remember the correct answer to one of Harpers questions. "Give me a minute to think."
"Don't strain yourself, doing something for the first time can be VERY difficult." Enyo snarks, causing Harper to let out the first laugh since her experience in Mount Weather. The sound is a sharp and surprised but bright nonetheless and it causes a warmth to spead within Enyo herself and Bellamy and Miller see her concealed pride.
"How are you even friends with her?" Miller snarks back to Harper teasingly.
Harper glances at Enyo with a raised eyebrow and a teasing smile of her own. "We're not. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer."
"Intimately close." Enyo added for no reason but to make Miller roll his eyes. "Seduce your enemies."
"Marry your enemies and poison the wedding cake?" Miller supplies for the fun of it.
Enyo and Harper turn their heads to look at him in unison, and Bellamy doesn't know whether or not they are doing it on purpose but he can't stop the quirk in his lips.
"Bringing the delicious wedding cake into it is a bit much don't you think?" Enyo says with mock seriousness.
"Yeah damn Miller. I thought you liked cake?" Harper joked, remembering him telling her about it in Mount Weather.

And its with remembering that call back that they all go quiet. Harpers haunted eyes return in full force as does Millers hardened ones and Bellamy's tense shoulders. Enyo's own light expression gives way to a blank look filled with numbness and grief. They quietly leave the table for their guard training, leaving Enyo and Bellamy within the silence.

Enyo sees Bellamy's eyes glaze over, as if he's not really there, physically here but thoughts somewhere else. "You lied."
Even as Bellamy is losing himself to the faces of those who he killed, her voice still reaches him and brings him back. "What?"
"In the Mountain, you said you were fine when i asked if you were good. You lied." She stated, blunt through and through.
Bellamy can still feel the emotions of pulling the lever. "So did you." He states himself, raising his eyebrows.
Enyo folds her arms, leaning back in her chair. "I asked first."
"Actually you didnt." Bellamy replied after a beat, unimpressed.
"Bellamy." She warns, her voice stern so Bellamy knows she's not in the mood for his shit right now.

But he doesn't know what to say. That he can't fall to sleep anymore until his eyes are sore from being awake? That when he does wake its from nightmares of fire burning around him and the screams of those he promised to protect? That even before pulling that lever he had blood on his hands. Grounders blood, his own people in the culling on the ark, and his first kill being his mother. So isn't this his punishment for that? His karma for spilling so much blood? To live a life of sleepless nights, accompanied by nightmares and bruises that he inflicts on himself when he's moving in his sleep? Because even his unconscious knows that he needs physical proof of what he deserves.

So what can he possibly say to defend this to the girl who lost her people for doing the right thing? To the girl who survived a missle strike only to watch her brother die from it? The girl who wanted to end her life because she's lost Abraham, only to keep going for her friends? Bellamy's not an idiot, he knows that she's been staying with the delinquents who have been having nightmares or struggling with depression. That if she can't get them out of their rooms then she'll stay with them until they feel safe enough to go. And they do feel safe when she's around. Bellamy does too if he's being honest but then he feels guilty. If the grounders, hell if Enyo wasnt helping his people, then Enyo and her brother never would have been in TonDC and she wouldnt have lost him. He knows it's a little farfetched, making it about himself when his best friend is grieving but Clarke was the one he trusted to help them. To not let his sister and friends get bombed but obviously his trust was misplaced when it concerns their safety.

"Bellamy." Enyo's whispered plea jerks him back from being trapped inside his own head. She must've sensed it, like he senses when she gets lost in her own mind, when he sees her absently touch a hand over her heart where she was stabbed. Or when he sees that she disappears for a few hours from everyone's sight like that time 2 weeks ago. How she doesn't mention where she goes or why but must go before people wake up because her hair is always wet every two days, her nose red and cheeks tinged rosy from staying out for so long in the winter cold.

But he never mentions it because she needs it. She needs her space to mourn, to adjust and as long as she doesn't dissappear he'll give her that. Whatever she needs. But she's taking care of everyone and ignoring herself and Bellamy can't add to that. He isnt her burden to bear.
So he tries to force a smile, though from his reflection in her eyes its more of a grimace. "I should go. Kane's recommended me to train as a guard too."
He leaves the table before she gets a chance to respond, its better this way he tells himself. He knows Enyo won't just let this go, that she wont stop the worrying or concerned eyes but he figures she has other things to worry about and eventually she'll learn that he's always going to put her needs above his own problems.

.............

"Okay so you all know why the Chancellor and Kane brought you here." Enyo begins, holding her survival sketchbook in her hands. They are in a room next to the mess hall that hasn't been given a use yet, but has one big table that they are all gathered around. Some being the delinquents that haven't got a job yet, or workers of the ark that mainly need this knowledge given the delinquents extra time on Earth.

Enyo had agreed seeing as she had one of her three sketchbooks dedicated for times such as building up and preparing for spring, the other sketchbook completely dedicated to military tactics and Anya's rules that she taught, and of course her other book for actual sketches. Enyo likes to share her knowledge, she used to teach her brother all of this as he never went to training in fear of becoming something he just doesnt want to be. Didnt want to be.
"All of your knowledge needs to be more-" she cuts off, unsure of what word to use for people that have lived in space all their lives and need to learn new ways to what they were taught.
"Updated?" Raven suppiles helpfully from the doorway. Her leaning on the doorway doesnt go unnoticed and someone from within the group offers Raven a chair.
Enyo can see the irritation in Raven's eyes and gets her attention before the girl starts a fight. "Not quite the word I'd use given I'm not talking about your tech, Rae."

Raven ignores the chair and stands as straight as she can with her leg brace in defiance, rolls her eyes at Enyo. "Whatever, professor Red, get on with your class."
She shakes her head in response, trying to remember her train of thought. "As i was trying to say," she directs at her direct, stubborn friend who in turn salutes with a smirk, "your knowledge of this world is outdated yes, so I'm going to teach you the more updated version of earth skills. If anyone has any questions then don't hesitate to ask or I'll call you out on it."

And with that she guides them through her sketches of Earth skills:

Covering the basics of meat, where to cut, what parts to eat and how to successfully get a pelt.

To how to build snares, both for river purposes and on land, which she already taught a few of the delinquents when they were at the dropship.

As well as how to build a fire withut arousing much attention, how to save your own life by digging a trench, and the different types and ways to set up tarp shelters. With each new topic, everyone is inamoured with curiosity and is completely silent unless they have a question. If they do they raise their arm and Enyo can see Raven stood in place, making fun of them for acting like they're in school. When one of the delinquents parents make that mistake and look embarrassed, Enyo shoots Raven a look. "None of you need to raise your hand,Rae is right this isn't school and I'm not your teacher. I'm here to advise you so you can cut in at any time while im talking and i wont mind. There is no heirarchy as far as im concerned." She assures them with such compassion that Raven is struck by the sudden urge to listen, to follow, to let Enyo nurture her to be better and let herself be cared for. As Enyo continues her lesson, Raven turns to go back to her work, still unsure of what just happened.

After she's done and once everyone leaves, only then does Enyo let her hand clutch at her chest. The remaining feeling like a ghost, not really feeling but enough that she has to check to see if the knife is no longer embedded in her body, the ghost of it never leaving. Her movements restricted for the forsee able.
............

Abby rubs at her forhead, she's lost count of all the duties she's been checking up on. "We can't wait any longer, Marcus, they're our people."
Kane steps closer to her on instinct, admitting his thoughts. "I know, Abby. But if we go into any of the commanders territory we dont know what that could mean for us. What it could start."
"There's been nothing for just over two weeks." Abby reminds him, head in her hands as she sits on the sofa in her office.

Kane rubs at the stubble thats growing on his face, feels guilty for adding to his friend's stress. "Which is why we need to tread carefully."
Abby sighs, that is the reason they havent gone out in search of the missing ark stations that they were unable to contact during the war with Mount Weather, because they still dont know where they stand with the commander and because winter isnt the best weather to send out people who are enduring it for the first time in their lives. But she's worried about her people that were separated in their descent and already has Raven working on the connection through the radios to try to contact them.

Rick uncrosses his arms from where he's leaning against the wall, finally understanding their invitation to him, not a threesome or an orgy like he originally thought but ; to get to the bottom of what they should do. "Why don't you just ask my granddaughter?"
Both skaikru leaders turn to look at him, Abby looking up from her seat on the sofa as Kane sits beside her. Rick sees their questions and decides to tell them the closest thing to the truth without revealing too much. "She has a high ranking in leadership and military tactics so she knows how best to handle situations like these whatever the outcome."

Abby and Kane share a look on this, "Maybe its time we give her a little more attention." Kane suggests, shrugging in agreement with Rick. "You mean put her in the firing line of her own people? After all she's done for us?" Abby demands sounding defeated as she thinks of her own daughter, too much responsibility and now she's somewhere in the woods.
The air is heavy with the knowledge of how far theyve come, exactly what its had to take for them all to trust her.
"She can take care of herself." Rick reassures, tone a little bristle. "You haven't even seen what shes capable of." And with that announcement, he leaves them.

........

Hammering can be heard throughout the camp as new structures are built within, made entirely of either metal from parts of the ark or chopped up wood.
"Guess it's a good thing to be surrounded by the woods." Peter, one of the delinquents, huffs jokingly, a little out of breath from the labour of work. Enyo tilts her head in acknowledgement, tries not to cringe at the reminder of the surname Woods she chose for herself and her brother.

"Hey Abe." Enyo nudged him softly, taking his attention away from Lincoln's sleeping form. Having just been cured from being a reaper, he had a hard road to recovery ahead of him. Abraham wiped his nose on his sleeve, trying to get rid of his pain she wasnt sure.
Either way, he grabbed his big sister's hand as well as one of Lincolns, despite the restraints, holding them as tight as his small hands could.

He doesn't turn to face his sister but by the way he goes silent, then his voice wavered but held as strong as he could, lets her know that she needs to listen. "We can't live like this, En." His breath shuddering but serious as he goes on, "everyone, the people we love, they're all getting hurt."
Enyo moves in closer, tries to reign in the threatening tears. She cant handle it when people cry in front of her without crying herself, especially her brother.
"If we stop hurting eachother, we'll stop losing the people we care about." Her brother weeps into her shoulder, both sitting beside Lincolns bed.
Enyo strokes his hair, wipes the tears from his cheek that isnt nuzzling into her. "Lincoln isn't lost, Abe. He's still here."
"But he almost was!" He bursts out, "dont act strong for me when you've been worried too!"

Swallowing down any snarky retort, Enyo reaches for Lincoln's hand, placing hers over her brother's. "I have been worried." She admits, "but this is our life and we can't take it for granted."
Entwining their fingers together, her brother leans back to look into Enyo's eyes. "This can't just be our life, not when someone could change it."
As he stares into her eyes a little longer, Enyo's brows furrow, sensing that maybe that was supposed to mean something. But as he gazes at Lincoln again, she decides that maybe a lift in morale is in order.

So she tells him of her conversation with the Blake siblings, how they suggested she give herself a surname and how she did in the dropship, surrounded by her friends. She sees how the tension, too much for someone his age, seeps out of him, sees how he brightens at the idea.
"Enyo Woods." Her brother tests out, causing her to smile.
"Abraham Woods." Enyo replies, seeing his satisfaction.
Then with an attempt at a serious, factual voice. "Mine sounds better."
Enyo can't help but snort. "Please, mine is the most fitting."
Now her brother snorts. "Yeah, no it really isnt."
After their teasing esculates, then comes to an end, her brother murmurs, "its nice to finally feel like i belong."
Heart melting, Enyo pulls him just a little bit closer. "I know." She does, he was in her mind while she thought about surnames, she'd believed he would feel like this. Like he finally belongs instead of living in her shadow.

Shaking her head from the memory from mere weeks ago, Enyo continues to help build one of the structures to help with the farming and crops that Monty is handling. She doesn't even realise she has tears in her eyes until she sees Peter glancing at her.
Clearing her throat, she offers a smile to hide that she is anything but okay.
"You know some of us call you, Yoyo?" Peter fills into the silence.
Enyo continues with her work but offers to humour him. "And why is that?"
Peter smiles a little, "Because they always bounce back." He explains, "i dont know if grounders had them at any point but they were toys we had on the ark. It was like a ball but with the string attached you could bring it back. Sometimes, if you misjudge the way you throw it, it just falls until the last piece of string. But you can always fix it and then it keeps bouncing back up."
Stopping in her work, she turns to look at him, lets his words sink in. "Thank you, Peter."
His pleased smile lifts her mood for the rest of the day.

............

"Why do we have to use these again?" Octavia complains, gesturing to the pole that she swings directly towards Enyo's head.
Blocking the Blake's swing with ease, Enyo replies. "Because the sound of swords clashing will attract people's attention."
She gives Octavia a few blows of her own to block before the girl can reply. "By people, you mean my brother?"

The girls get caught up in sparring before they can talk again, having finally found a corner in camp where they won't be spotted. Octavia wanted to spar with Lincoln but he was helping the construction at the other side of camp and she'd always like fighting with Enyo better. Whereas Enyo had missed the muscle memory that came with using her sword and had jumped at the chance for any sort of training. She'd only gotten to use her bow and arrows since Mount Weather, and that was when she would take her secretive trips in the woods every two days before dawn.

"I mean people that haven't started to avoid me," Enyo grits out jn frustration, both to do with the conversation and the sparring that was causing her left side of her chest to hurt, "you know like Abby, Kane, Lincoln and the others."
While letting this information distract her, Enyo seizes her opportunity and uses her wooden pole to trip up Octavia, who falls to the floor with a growl.
"Rule 3; Always use your enemy's weakness against them." Enyo lectures, twirling her pole with ease.
"Why arent we starting with rule 1? And why's he avoiding you?" Octavia asks, bounding up to stand.
Going on the offense in her movements, she answers. "Because the rules apply when the lesson needs to be learned. And because i tried to comfort him but he's...well being Bellamy about it. "

Octavia sees her own opportunity and strikes, hitting Enyo in her chest which causes her to bend over, grasping at her still healing wound, while having her feet swept from under her until she's on the ground. Ignoring the aches in her chest, she looks up to see Octavia shrugging mercilessly. "You said use your weakness."
Enyo hates getting knocked down. Its been a while since its happened but she knows now that it will probably happen more often because of her injury. Whether her people know her to be dead or not, if another war or battle ensues everyone will know where to strike.

Authors note: sorry this has been so long overdue! But this chapter is finally done! I might tweak it a bit tomorrow or add more to it, but i definitely need to re-read through it. Honestly my life has been weird lately. Some of my friends got engaged, i found out that 3 boys liked me and now i have a boyfriend. And if you guys knew me, the latter would be weird on its own. I know ive promised that i will update more often before, but with everything happening recently and me not being able to conquer drawing block (if thats a thing) then this is my best outlet. My love with you all thanks for reading! Again appreciate any comments or votes xx
