Almost 18 years ago.......
"Are you seriously making me do this?" Fiona asks her parents in the quiet, private allure of their cabin.
Rick turns to face his daughter whilst his wife handles the two infants in the middle of the room. "You've left us no choice. If the rest of Trikru find out about this they'll have your head along with ours."
Fiona shakes her head, blindly in love. "Then let me leave with my love. You know I'm only with Enyo's father because im not a fighter, but i dont need him anymore now i have Persephones father."
Rick rolls his eyes at his daughter, thought he'd taught her better than that. "You shouldn't need a man to complete you, Fiona. How is that a lesson for your daughters to learn?"

Fiona sheds her crocodile tears at her father. "Please father. Help me be happy."
Before Rick can crumble at his daughters wishes, his wife, Fionas mother, steps in. "You are the one acting so selfish child. If you run away with him they'll find you and kill you. Maybe they'll keep your daughters alive and turn them into azgedan soldiers."
Fiona knows that her mother wont fall for her little girl act, she was never easy to please. "Mother you found happiness with father, so what if i found mine with someone from a different clan?!"
Fionas mother spins to face her reckless daughter. "Because you are partnered with another! Because not only are you risking your life but everyones in this room! Including your daughters that both deserve better!"

No one else speaks after the empowered mother goes over to her granchildren in the middle of the darkened room. Her oldest grandchild, Enyo, only a year old with a ruffle of red curls. And her youngest grandchild, Persephone, only three months old with a small amount of silver hairs on her soft baby head. She loved them dearly, despite the reckless situation her daughter had put them in but the only way to keep them both safe was to do this the way their tradition demands. This has only happened once before, a man and woman from different clans conceived a child and in the end it was killed in war along with both parents. But she wasnt going to let the red haired heritage die in such a way. They were the only living family amongst all clans with red hair and they took pride in such. Meridith kom Trikru was nothing but a proud red haired woman and Rick loved her for it, his wife was his life as was his reckless redhaired daughter and now their two granchildren. Not all of the family line had the red hair, such as Persephone, but sometimes it skipped a few members in the bloodline. Rick didnt have it because it came from his wifes Merediths family and he just married into it.

Meridith took out three bowls and filled each of them with boiling water, placing a different item next to each; one carrot, one egg, one flavoured bean. She placed 3 month old Persephone in front of the options first, making sure to keep an even distance from all of them so the baby could make her unconscious instinctual decision on her own. Persephone babbled and it took her a few minutes to crawl and roll over to her choice. It became official when her small baby hands gripped and grappled with the struggle to get ahold of the egg. Meredith walked over to the baby and picked her up whilst placing the egg fully into her hand. The baby eventually throwing the egg haphazardly into one of the bowls.

Once handing the baby to Rick, Meredith went over to her 1 year old Enyo, who hadnt been particularly interested in watching any of this and was instead trying to climb the furniture and plucked her into the same place her half sister had been before. Enyo pouted up at her grandmother causing Rick to chuckle, the sound making Enyo's face break into a toothy grin. The three adults watched from their previous places as Enyo took in the options of her possible toys. The one year old ignored her sisters gurgles for attention and finally started to move.

Except for the first time since any of their redhaired ancestors had done this ritual after their own birth, she crawled closer to inspect her items but made no move to touch. As if sensing that this was some sort of trap and her family never gave her new toys like this. The one year old seemed to be curious though, taking in the different shapes and sizes, the only thing that all three items had in common was the identical bowls. Again the youngster made her decision and chose the small flavoured bean. Plucking it from the ground and almost putting it in her mouth until Meredith ran over to hold her hand out over the bowl and with a whine, Enyo dropped the bean into the bowl. As the weight of the ritual comes to an end, they all know what this means. As hard as it is the choice has been made. They cant have both children without the truth coming out so they would have to choose between them. Beans or the egg? They chose Beans. But the truth will out and with it Enyo's destiny.

(Based off a riddle that you can search. "Are you a carrot, egg or coffee bean?" Basically each kf these objects face the same adversity: the boiling water- but each react differently. The carrot goes in strong, hard and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile, but came out of the water hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique. After they were in the boiling water they changed the water. They changed the circumastances. )

............present day.............

Kane and Abby decide to come to Enyo to ask about the city of light and how Jaha had taken a bunch of people with them who had never returned along with Murphy.
"Then they're as good as dead." She states bluntly, in the middle of doing her sit ups. She could only do nothing too physically straining for too long. And she'd agreed with Abby that exercises were all she could do so she could build up her strength without injuring her wound further. "Even people from the other clans who go dont ever come back. And some of them had families to come back to, so its not as if they found the place, unless they dont want to share. It's called the deadzone for a reason. I just thought Murphy was smarter than to follow captain wackadoodle."

Kane shared a worried look with Abby, scratching his growing stubble. "Are you sure there's no chance of them returning?"
Enyo shoots him an unimpressed look. "Kane if there was I'd be there to meet them in the deadzone with wings." She deadpanned, continuing her exercise. "Oh and you may want to change the name of this place to something better than 'Camp Jaha'."
"Any suggestions?" Abby asked with a slight smile.
Enyo shrugged as she kept up her sweaty pace of rapping out her sit ups to strengthen her still healing core. "Maybe ask the people."

The two adults left to deal with their duties and meeting with Lincoln about how they can better survive this winter now that its here in full force. Abby was overwhelmed with patients coming down with the cold and injuries due to the ice that was once snow. Kane had took on some responsibility of following out her orders and Bellamy was taking care of the remainder of the hundred. Enyo was doing the best she could to help all around but it wasnt easy for her, this leadership without much mobility as she's used to wasnt her favourite thing to do. She missed sparring with her friends, being able to go out hunting in the woods, basically anything that allowed be to be more free than she is now.

With a sigh she heaved herself up and packed her rucksack full of clean clothes, a comb, some of the soap Lincoln makes and sheathes her swords into her belt. She thinks of Jaspers words she'd taken to heart the other day, about him wanting her to leave or die. Honestly, she couldn't blame him for saying it, he'd lost the girl he loved, made alliances with the people who helped them and watched them all die, and she'd been the one of the people he trusted that had taken all of that away from him. But she hadnt been near him since then, even if they were in the same room she'd make sure they were on opposite sides until she decided to leave. But she could feel people's stares. She'd never been one to care about what people thought of her but she couldn't take much more of her pain mixed with their judgement.

So she hiked her bag over both her shoulders and snook out into the early chilly air, the mist giving her enough cover to not be noticed as she sneaks over to the temporarily dismantled fence. They'd decided to expand their land further but made sure to add more guards to the parts that needed the attention. But the fence wasnt currently electrified, so it made it easy for Enyo sneak out just like her brother used to do. With one look back at Camp Jaha, she disappeared into the trees.

..............

"We haven't seen her since we spoke to her this morning." Kane informs a slightly panicked Bellamy. He's asked around most of the delinquents but they havent seen his redheaded friend since yesterday.
Abby steps away from her desk in the middle of her chancellor's office, offering Bellamy a reassuring smile. "She won't have gone far. When we talked to her this morning she was exercising, she's probably stretching her legs like we talked about."

Bellamy lets her words of comfort sink in, calming his heart rate and nodded his head slowly. He knew that he shouldnt be worrying like he is, for the past few days they hadnt heard a peep from the grounders and Kane was confident that they would be aware if there was a war coming. But he couldn't help himself, Clarke had took off and he wouldnt be able to cope if Enyo has done the same. He couldnt lose another friend.

Walking out of the ark, he sees Lincoln and his sister sparring at the edge of camp, Miller sarcastically clapping to try and distract her.
Shooting him a glare, Octavia threatens to disembowl him. "Keep it up, Miller and you'll see how serious i am."
Swinging her sword up to meet Lincolns, they clash until the barely sweating man saw Bellamy's expression. With grace Lincoln circles his sword around Octavia's so she loses her grip and it digs a few feet away into the ground.

Lincons eyes become wary. "What is it?"
"I can't find Enyo." Bellamy responds and sees Lincoln stiffen, his back straight, shoulders tense.
Octavia rolls her eyes at her brother. "Oh no you haven't spoke to your girlfriend for five minutes."
But when Bellamy doesnt even shoot her an annoyed look, she knows just how serious he is. How worried he is beneath his calm facade.
"When was she last seen?" Lincoln asked him already sheathing his sword and picking up his fur coat. Sparring was the only thing that made them warm in this winter cold, but it would be over in less than a month.

Miller watched as the three of them walked back towards the ark, probably aiming to split up and search everywhere.
"You okay, Nate?" David Miller asked his son, both of them on guard at the dismantled fence.
Miller nods watching as Bellamy rubs a hand over his face in the distance, from watching his leader at the dropship he knows how Bellamy must be feeling. "Enyo's missing."

David frowns, thinking about the girl that helped save his sons life from Mount Weather. The look made his son look up at him.
"Dad?"
"I saw her at the west side of the fence this morning. I didnt see her after that." David admits, eyes on his son instead of the wilderness.
Miller looks up at his father, whom he'd thought would never be able to repair their relationship, and shares a look.
David smiles at his son's loyalty, it is well placed. "Go. I'll cover your shift and alert the Chancellor."
Miller nods, leaving his post with is gun in hand and moves to find Bellamy and Rick.

...............

Enyo moves slowly through the woods after visiting her secret spot, moving quickly so she would be able to slip back into camp without anyone noticing her absence. But, luck has never been on her side and as soon as she clutched at her still healing wound, she heard a rustle and crack behind her and turned just in time to face the jet black animal that had pounced in her moment of weakness.

....................

The atmosphere between Bellamy, Rick, Miller, Lincoln and Octavia was tense at best, the five of them all scouting their surroundings because trying to pick up any of Enyo's tracks proved fruitless. They had headed to the dropship first, thinking she had made a visit to her brothers grave but when they'd seen no signs of life there they had taken to searching the woods as far as they can without going over the borders of other clans.

Which is exactly why Octavia felt the need to say, "Bell, maybe she went home to her people."
Bellamy raised his brows, disbelieving. "They left her to die in that mountain. Her commander left her brother to die in TonDC."
"Then why would she take a pack with all her clothes?" Octavia reasoned.
Bellamy swallowed, shaking his head at the voice in his head that was saying the same thing. She left you. Just like Clarke. Just like your father. Just like your mom. They all leave to get away from you.

Her brother's silence was answer enough that he was hoping she was wrong and Octavia hoped so too.
Lincoln butted in before anything else could get said. "She would have told someone if that was the case."
"Lincoln is right. My granddaughter doesnt run." Rick added, gripping his axe tightly. He hoped she wasnt in danger because of the secret he had kept all his time. Before he gets to tell her the truth.

"You also didn't think she'd want to kill herself." Miller piped in, reminding them of Enyo begging them to let her end it as she was on her death bed, merely days ago.
No one had an answer to that, so they kept treading through the woods. Eyes sharp weapons hot as Bellamy put it.
Suddenly, a noise caught their attention. First Lincoln, then Rick and as they motioned for the others to stop as well, they heard it too.
".....is that?" Octavia trails off unsure.
Bellamy nods mutely.
They all crouch to the ground after moving as close and silently as they can to the sound, using the trees around them for cover.

There, just coming in to sight is Enyo, dragging what looks like a handmade stetcher behind her and shushing whatever is mewling. As they obeserve, she lowers the stretcher to the ground and her movements become slower, stiff almost as if she knows she's being watched.
But then Enyo must spot whatever has her on edge as she stays facing to their left and raises one hand in front of her and backs away a step.

Bellamy raises his weapon and looks through the scope, magnifying his sight so he can see through the dead shrubbery in front of them. First he sees the injured panther on the stretcher and then the other panther in front of Enyo that is definitely not injured and definitely looking at her like she's its prey.

Before he can pull the trigger, Rick grabs the end of his weapon and shakes his head at Bellamy's furowed brow. Out of the corner of Bellamy's eye, he sees Lincoln do the same to Miller, but has a tight grasp of his own weapon just in case.
"Wait." Rick whsipers, curiosity seeping through his features.
Bellamys about to protest when Rick grabs at his weapon again, making it clear he is strong and is capable and willing to over power him to see this. Which is what ultimately stops Bellamy from following on his instincts as they watch.

Enyo stares at the other panther in front of her evenly, slowly putting one hand in front of her. The animal growls in response, looks as if it will pounce at any moment so she starts to kneel very slowly, until one knee is on the ground and the other propped up. As if she was proposing for her life. She clenches the hand she still has outstretched into a fist and lowers her head in submission to the panther. Silence follows as she awaits to see how the beast will chose to respond until she feels a slow panted breath on her hand, followed by a wet nose.

Her lips curl and she open her hand slowly, lets the panther nudge its nose into her hand as if its prying her hand apart to find some weapon or source of food. Once the animal starts sniffing at her hair, she raises her head, realising she has lost her survival instinct, her will to survive. She didnt feel the need to think about which weapon to reach for and not because she trusted the animals but because it didnt matter to her. Her brother was her will to survive and now that he's gone, so has she.

The animal seems to sense her distress and deems her unworthy for eating as it moves around her to nuzzle with its injured mate laid out on her stretcher. The injured panther had just been attacked by what Enyo's assuming was a grounder hunting party but managed to get away with an injured leg, when it had attacked her. Feeling threatened in its own weakness until she fell to the ground and it started howling in pain. The animal didnt trust her so much as not have much of a choice but to let her help as she did what she could to clean and bandage its leg and drag it to a hidden cave where it would be safe to recover.

They were already under the overhand of the somewhat open cave and Enyo turned and began to move the stretcher further in so the animal wouldnt have to injure itself further by taking cover. Despite more mewls of pain and growls from its protective mate, Enyo had managed to maneuver them so theyd be safe. Before she picks up her pack she reaches into it and pulls out a rabbit she had hunted earlier and stood, turning and coming face to face with the panther that could easily take her down without hesitation.

Her group of friends watched on in awe as the panther in fact chose to stalk closer to her and nuzzle her leg once, then greedily take the rabbit she offers and trails back to share the meal with its mate. They watch as Enyo leaves the cave with a tentative but real smile, fresh and proud of what she had achieved.
"She tamed the wild." Rick murmurs as if he knows something the rest don't.
At Octavia's look of derision, Lincoln even has to admit to himself the time is now. "No one has been able to do this. Except the chosen."
Miller and Octavia look at them. "The chosen?"
But neither Rick or Lincoln elaborates and Bellamy doesnt like what that implies. His eyes don't leave Enyo as she seems to step further into her destiny.

Peering behind her one last time, Enyo leaves the panthers in the cave and begins to walk in the direction of the dropship. She wasnt planning on visiting her brother's grave today but she can't think of a reason why she shouldn't. So she continues her trekk with her pit stop before returning to Camp Jaha, she knows by now someone will have noticed her absence but maybe she can get back before-. No- she shakes her head, thinking of how worried people would be about her. Its never been easy for her to accept things like that let alone talk about it.

Which is why when she gets to her brother's grave, she feels the urge to talk. To talk about her parents. It's easy to talk to someone who can't hear her, to someone who is no longer there. Her brother never really saw their parents relationship before Enyo had to kill their newly turned reaper of a father. "Which is why i think we were so different." She thinks aloud, head down to fiddle with the dead grass in her grasp. "Not just because all siblings are different but because my views were different based on how i watched our parents interact."

She thinks about the blank stares that she thought were loving because her parents were married and together. About how they barely spoke, how one minute it was obvious that they had spent the night making love, but then they were back to clipped tones and short responses. How distant her father was with not only her mother but with her too. The only time Enyo spent with her father was when he trained her, and he would only ever accept the best.

Back straight when you advance!

Don't turn your back on the enemy!

Being second best means you are the first to die!

He'd correct her at every step too, never gentle in his guidance of how she should stand, how she should defend and what moves she should make on the offensive. She'd never seen a gentle bone in his body. He was all anger, distance and cold, only accepting the best but whatever she gave was never enough. Maybe that's why she trained so much to become the feared, skilled warrior she is now.
"But father still wouldn't be happy with who i am. He'd just ask why i dont have a higher ranking. Why i helped the people from the sky, even if you asked me to. Or why i let Cage Wallace stab me." She tore the grass out from the ground now, tone bitter like her father.

Then there was her mother. Enyo can't remember a time when she wouldn't describe her mother as a complicated woman. She was stubborn, selfish, and made it clear to Enyo that she had to be the protector of the family after killing her own father to protect her. After his death, instead of being a distraught widow, her mother was lighter, more involved with Abraham until she left. And even when she went to live under Nilahs roof in another Trikru village, her mother was almost kind to her when she visited. Now it made sense why. Fiona had admitted that she was freed when Enyo killed him and she now knew it to be true. It made Enyo sick that the reason her mother became kind to her and spent more time with Abraham was because Enyo had killed her own father.

Her friends gather at the edge of the dropships tree line, having followed her to see why she was out here and where she would go. Bellamy feels his earlier panic and annoyance fade as he watches his grieving friend, talking to nothing but an ash filled grave. He notices that Miller is facing away from the scene, jaw clenched and eyes closing whenever they hear the tremble in Enyo's voice.

Enyo continues on, needing to say the words that she never even wanted to speak to her brother about. "I thought that was how people loved, like our mom and father. That they were together for so long that they'd grown sick of eachother. Even of me. But-" She couldn't continue and it was just as well as Lincoln stepped forward to go get his friend before she spilled her heart out in front of an audience. Knowing her since she was born and every day since, he knew one thing she hated above everything was talking about her feelings to people. She wouldnt like it if she knew how much they'd heard already and just kept listening as if they had any right.

Suddenly, Rick grabbed his arm roughly, stopping Lincoln from moving towards Enyo. Octavia moved to push Rick but Bellamy saw the silent angry stares that looked a little dangerous for his sister to be in the middle of. His sister shoots him a glare but he keeps ahold of her arm, Miller finally turning at the scuffle.
"There a problem here?" Bellamy asks them.
Ricks grip doesnt seem to loosen and Lincolns stare gets darker as he growls, jerking his arm out of the older mans grip.
Miller steps closer to them now, almost in the middle of them to prevent any violence. They all seemed to have forgotten the girl they came for.

"What are you all doing here?" Enyo asks, grabbing everyone's attention at how close she got with them all being distracted.
Ricks glare turns deadly on Lincoln as they share a silent conversation, causing Octavia to greet her. "Looking for you. We should head back before it gets dark." She adds after a moment hoping that would break the strange altercation thats happening.
Enyo nods mutely, returning to the grave to get her pack of things she'd packed this morning, just out of hearing distance when the altercation esculates.

Rick shakes his head, eyes filled with annoyance. "The quicker she lets out her grief, the quicker we can tell her the truth."
"What truth?" Bellamy demands, cutting in.
Lincoln focuses on Rick, but turns his back to him, facing Enyo who is walking towards her brother's grave. "We are not dictating her grief."
"I thought something had happened to her today." Ricks spits and the heartbreak behind his harsh tone gets under Lincolns skin as he continues. "If she dies because of what we've kept from her, we will never forgive ourselves."

Lincoln spins to face him, keeping his calm as best as he can. "You kept it from her. I figured it out a couple of years ago. This isn't up to us, its her choice."
"And how is she suppose to make it if she doesnt know?" Rick square off against him, chest to chest.
Octavia attempts to move out of Bellamy's grip, fails but still demands. "What the hell is he talking about?"
Rick smiles mockingly, feigns innocence and goes to explain when Lincoln shoves him back a few feet. The move startles them all, the only time Lincoln wasnt calm and peace loving in their presence was when he was a reaper.

Their eyes match whatever intensity they are talking about as Rick shoves Miller out of the way, knocking him the the floor to get to Lincoln. Octavia then shoves at her brother and unsheathes her sword, stepping in front of Lincoln protectively while Bellamy holds his gun in one hand, the other outstretched towards rick as if that will calm things down. He can't point it at him, he's the only family Enyo's got left and Bellamy wont do anything to risk that.

But that is what Rick clearly counts on as he legs Bellamy up so he ends up on his back, winded from the surprise of the fall. Miller is once again shoved away, his gun thrown away haphazardly along with him and Lincoln grips Octavia's shoulders and spins them, kissing her to distract her from the fact that he steals her sword and turns to face Rick standing in front of Octavia protectively. He won't let her get so much as shoved away.

"Enough!" Enyo yells, stepping between them with her pack on her back. She eyes both of them, skeptical and then moves to help Miller up and then Bellamy. She goes to stand between them again, raising an eyebrow and putting her hands on her hips, Enyo's signature move for wanting an explanation. Now.

But that was why Lincoln pushed Rick, because he would've told her the truth when she's still grieving for her brother. And when she knows her life will change once again, and Lincoln knows she will bury her grief for it. Peace won't last long between any of the clans and skaikru, but if this is the longest she will get to grieve in literal peace then Lincoln will make sure she gets it.

Sensing his urge to speak, Enyo looks to him. "Trust me?" He asks of her, It has been a code of theirs for years but they always end up telling eachother the truth. The promise of the right time to bring it up and her trust in him that he will. "Its over." He confirms, looking to Rick with a serious warning in his eye.
Enyo glances between them but eventually seems satisfied, moving past them and to the direction of Camp Jaha. Octavia stays beside Lincoln and Bellamy and Miller silently agree to walk between them and Rick.

"You gonna explain what that was all about?" Octavia asked Lincoln in hushed tones. But made sure to speak loud enough for her brother to hear as she knows he would like to know the answer too.
Lincoln watches Enyo walk ahead of them, knowing he'll have to tell her soon but wanting her to heal more first. "Protecting my best friend."
Octavia and Bellamy catch eachothers glance when she asks, "Protect her from what?"
"From being crowned queen." He answers, as if that doesn't raise more questions.
