3rd person POV. . . . .
It was one hell of a trekk dragging Lincolns unconscious body through the woods and all the way to the dropship but they made it that night. It was close to midnight and they were nervous as Lincoln started waking up. He was still dazed at first, growling lowly, so it made it easier to tie his arms up to each wall of the dropship much like Bellamy did with him the first time whe he tortured him.
He started growling louder, grunting to break free and yelling in their faces while he kept trying to pull himself free. That continued for ten minutes while the Blakes and Enyo sat down to rest after their long and tiring trekk. Bellamy was clenching his jaw, unsure how to be there for both girls who cared so much for the reaper and knew that if anyone could help Lincoln now it could be Clarke. Enyo, having tuned out her best friend's growls for the past ten minutes, looked over at Octavia and saw how much it was getting to her. The more Lincoln continued to behave like a reaper, the more defeated Octavia looked. Octavia was right, Enyo doesn't let her friends give up on their hope.
Enyo got up from her place and grabbed the electric shock baton and struck Lincoln and once was enough until he slightly dropped unconscious, still bound. She tossed the weapon on the floor and took in the man that, now asleep, finally reminded her of her best friend. She turned to see Octavia's tired and grateful smile, small as it was, and moved to sit down next to her.
"Woods." Enyo said into the silence that followed. The Blakes opened their tired eyes and glanced at her.
"What?" Bellamy asked her from his seat on the other side of his sister, looking over the youngest Blakes head to look at Enyo.
"For my last name. Enyo Woods?" Enyo stated at them until they grasped what she was talking about.
Octavia breathed out a laugh. "You know Abraham would have to have the same name. Abraham Woods."
Enyo shrugged. "Its another excuse for him to try and impress Raven."
The Blake siblings laughed, Enyo's mission complete. "Little young isnt he?" Bellamy joked, basking in the quiet moment with his favourite people.
Enyo smirked, knowing her brother will grow up to be quite a catch, even with his stupid jokes. "Patience is a virtue Blake."
"Whatever you say, Woods." Bellamy muttered fondly, liking her new name already.
.............
"Clarke might be able to help him. You two gonna be okay here?" Bellamy asked. Once upon a time he never would've left them alone, especially with a reaper but his sister had grown into herself down here, although he would always worry he knew she could protect herself. And he knew Enyo was strong, capable of holding her own. It had been a couple of hours of rest until they thought its safe for him to go back to Camp Jaha so they nodded and he offered a small smile of reassurance to them before climbing down the ladder, his footsteps echoing out of the dropship.
"You should get some sleep while he's down. I'll keep watch until Bellamy comes back with Clarke." Enyo murmured, tired herself.
"I'm fine." Octavia sighed, looking over at Lincoln. Enyo admired her love for him, at least some crushes dont contain the psycho passage.
Sighing, Enyo got more comfortable and noticed that she hadnt freaked out about being in a small space. "This is the first time i haven't noticed im in a small confined space."
Octavia looked at the wall across from her. "Count yourself lucky you didnt have to live under the floor."
Enyo rested her head on the wall and turned to look at Octavia. "I got stuck in some ruins once. Me, Abe and Lincoln were exploring some ruins and the floor fell from under us. We were trapped for hours, felt like days."
Octavia was looking at her now, glad to have someone who can share stories about the man she loves when he was younger. She was barely keeping her eyes open but she always listened to stories. "Is that why you dont like small spaces?"
Enyo heard her tired voice slurring. "Yeah you could say i panicked a bit. But I've lived my entire life in unlimited space, so being trapped in a small confined space for too long and i feel caged. I guess if we were to delve into my deeper insecurities it would be because im afraid of never being free." Her voice was a quiet lull to make sure the youngest Blake might get some rest.
Octavia hummed, eyes closed and yawned around her words. "What does Lincoln do when you get like that?"
Enyo chuckled slightly, "he puts his hands on my shoulders and tells me to fight it, that it's okay to be afraid. He saves me."
By the end of her sentence she's sure that Octavia has fell into a deep sleep. Turning her gaze to the man in question, the friend that has always been by her side, mumbling quietly to herself, "but how do i save you?"
...........
"You werent there Abby, i saw them. Warriors trained since childhood to fight and die for their cause much like Enyo. And as we speak they're marching on this camp. And trust me when i tell you the right choice is to live so we can come back and fight another day." Jaha persuaded in his meeting with Abby.
Abby stared at him evenly as Brne came in to inform them about their people being on edge. Jaha wasnt used to being the follower, he wanted his title of chancellor again so he could protect his people his way. But Abby wasn't going to give up so easily.
"Im not ready to march our people into the desert Thelonious. Not until we try to find another way and Enyo will help us with that. We'll talk to them together."
............
Clarke listened to Bellamy as he filled her in on what happened since they split off from the group yesterday. She was worried about them, and about dealing with the commanders threat when they still needed to rescue the 47. She knew she could only ask so much about Lincolns state before Bellamy would tell her she'll see for herself.
"Hows Octavia?" Clarke asks as they walk quickly through the forest towards the dropship.
Bellamy sighs, shaking his head. "She'll be better when he is."
Clarke nodds looking at his face carefully to watch his reaction. "And Enyo?"
This takes Bellamy longer to answer, not quite sure. "She's accepted that he's already dead. But for O's sake she's still trying."
"Putting up a wall of defence through sarcasm?" Clarke asks knowingly, worried whether or not she could save Lincoln.
"That's our Enyo." Bellamy says back, easy and casual.
...............
Lincoln's ferocious growl alerted Octavia and Enyo of Bellamy and Clarke's presence as they came up the ladders. Clarke stumbling back in fear as Bellamy reassured her he'd been restrained. He'd woken up a couple of hours ago and woke Octavia up so Enyo wasnt exactly in a good mood.
"nice of you to join our circle of hell Clarkey. Imagine listening to that for hours." Enyo greeted them faux cheerfully, she stood, pins and needles making her legs stiff.
The look of horror on Clarke's face sent Enyo into suspicion, she knew something. "I knew they controlled the reapers, i had no idea they were creating them."
"What are you talking about?" Enyo snapped, not liking to be kept out of the loop.
Clarke looked at her with the same expression. "Lincoln was never a reaper before. Suddenly the reapers take him away and he turns into one?"
Enyo felt her rage storm within her. "Son of a bitch."
"If they can do that to Lincoln, what are they doing to our friends?" Bellamy asked unsure, worried that they were even more out of their depth in this war.
Bellamy and Octavia held up their flashlights so Clarke could analyse him to see if she could help. Enyo stood next to Clarke in case she got too close, not trusting Lincoln to not try to bite her. The closer she got the more he screamed at them until he finally stopped when he started shaking.
"He's convulsing." Clarke said in confusion.
"so what does it mean?" Octavia asked, hopeful that Clarke knew what was wrong then she could fix it, fix him.
Clarke searched his form, looking for the source of his spaseming until she saw the blood on his leg. "What happened to his leg?" Clarke asked, turning to face the Blakes.
Octavia lookd down, voice coated with regret. "I shot him."
Wanting to break the tension and his sister's guilt for doing the right thing, Bellamy spoke up. "Clarke he's lost a lot of blood."
Clarke turned back to look at Lincoln stepping closer and then backing away when he tried to get closer to her. Enyo squeezed Clarke's arm and Clarke forced a smile to hide her discomfort. Stepping closer to him together again when Clarke spotted something.
"Can you shine the light on his neck?" She asked the Blakes and they did as she said. "Needle marks."
"You think he's been drugged?" Bellamy asked her.
She turned to face him to answer, "maybe." So she didnt see the restraint loosen unlike Enyo who kept her eyes on him.
"Clarke!" Enyo warned and pushed her out of the way when Lincoln grabbed at her.
He was able to grab Enyo though, and she grunted from the harsh force he was pulling on her hair with his free hand. Octavia shouted making a move to get him off her but he punched her into the wall. Bellamy ran forward and continued to punch him on the arm that still clung to Enyo until he forced him to let go. He headbutted Bellamy and shoved Enyo to the floor while he got his other arm free and began to claw at them, attempting to pull his chained feet free. Clarke moved out of the way and Bellamy ran up to him with the shock baton but Lincoln had him on the floor in seconds punching him repeatedly. Clarke attempted to help but Lincoln punched her full force in the stomach until she fell to the floor, helpless.
Enyo knew Lincoln would beat Bellamy to death so she had to do something. "Octavia! The pipe! Toss it here!" She shouted to her over the boys grunts of struggle for power. Octavia pulled the pipe free from the dropship and threw it towards Enyo, getting another so she could help her brother. Enyo ran up to them and let Octavia hit Lincoln on the back to gain his attention so she could hit him across the face, knocking him out cold. Quite the warrior women team.
Panting to catch their breaths, Enyo stood to gather some more equipment to restrain him with, her anger masked otherwise she would kill him like he needed to be. The four of them dragged his body to the centre of the floor so they could tie him up using everything they've got. Tbey were all frustrated at this point so the silence was tense. While they were tying him down Clarke informed them the news they'd missed out on.
"Your lucky the commanders giving you such a choice. She's not normally so generous." Enyo sassed while tying.
Clarke looked at her. "She?"
"Yeah Clarke what were you expecting? Medusa as commander?" Enyo snarked causing Bellamy to snort a little and Octavia rolled her eyes.
"No i meant you sound like you know her, personally." Clarke corrected herself, hopeful that Enyo could be the one to gain an alliance.
She shrugs taking off her grounder coat so she could work without fuss. "She was from Trikru. I was trained with her but we werent exactly friends. If anything we were rivals so dont get your hopes up thinking i can charm her to an alliance."
Clarke's hope wavered but she remained stubbornly determined. "There has to be a way."
.............
"We have to stop the bleeding and get the bullet out. Hold his leg down." Clarke instructed them and Bellamy and Enyo moved to do as such.
Lincoln kept grunting and growing in pain and Octavia shushed him gently, wailing when Lincoln refused his water and spat it in her direction. Out of the four of them it was clear this was affecting Octavia the most.
"O, once the drug is out of his system he'll be okay." He assured her, knowing how much she loved him and finally showing he accepted it.
"You cant protect me from this one big brother." She replied solemnly as she walked out to get more water.
Enyo continued to hold down Lincolns leg as Clarke tries to find the bullet. Bellamy crouches back down to help.
"She's right you know. This only ends one way." Enyo croaked, tired from the frustration.
Clarke glances to her and then Bellamy, then back to her work while responding. "You dont think we can save him?"
"No one can. Like no one could save my father." Enyo replied back staring down with the same haunted look in her eyes until her gaze hardened.
Bellamy was starting to understand why Enyo sounded like she'd gone through this before. This was personal to her. "Your dad was a reaper?"he asked gently.
Enyo nodded slowly. "He went hunting with a group and didnt return for weeks. We thought the mountain had taken him to never be seen again. But i came back from training and saw him in our hut...eating my mothers hand. She was unconscious and losing blood and he wouldnt stop eating so i killed him."
Bellamy's mind shifted back to when he'd seen her mother for the first time, and one of Fiona's hands was concealed with a glove. He put a comforting hand on Enyo's shoulder, wanting nothing more than to take away her pain that was shielded away by her hard gaze.
She continued as if two pairs of eyes werent looking at her in sorrow. "He was my first kill. After that some of my friends were afraid of me, even my mother left me. Anya saw how i could make impossible decisions without letting my emotions get in the way, how i could kill even the most important people in my life if it had to be done. I killed Kayla too. They wanted me to torture her for what she did and i did that too. If i need to kill Lincoln i can." She said as if she was trying to convince herself. She knew she could but she didnt want to.
Bellamy brushed her hair away from her face so he could see her tears fall, wrapping his arm around her shoulders and pulling her close so she'd lean into him. He knew that she thought he would pull away like her friends did, thats why she said it. To push him away too, but she stood by him when he thought he was a monster and no matter what he knows sure as hell that she isnt one.
"Then why havent you?" Clarke asked her as she removed the bullet.
Enyo looked at her from her place in Bellamy's arms, tears spilling over the more she looked at Lincoln. "Im tired of killing the people i love."
Silence followed only interupted by Enyo's sniffles and she belatedly realised this is the first time she's openly cried in front of Bellamy without injury to be the blame of their cause. The first time she's cried in front of Clarke.
She took deep breaths to calm down and wiped her face clear. "Okay enough of this sharing feelings crap. Its grossing me out."
And the spell was broken by her sass as she recovers but Bellamy still has his arm around her, squeezing her shoulder to show that I'll stay with you. Clarke wraps the bandage around Lincolns leg while Enyo moves away, laying her back against the wall watching her two other co-leaders talk.
Suddenly the hatch opens but Octavia isnt alone as they step up onto their floor. Bellamy immediately grabs his gun, pointing it at the grounder he recognises from the village, thinking he's come back for revenge. Enyo watches Nyko from where she rests and his eyes meet hers skeptical. Octavia thinks that he's here to help and suddenly Enyo doenst know what to do. Let him pull out the poison and give Lincoln his peace or stick to what she just said and see if skaikru can save him. Ultimately she decides that she doesn't believe in miracles, she's a pessimist through and through, knowing in her heart Lincoln would do the same to her.
Nyko pulls out the poison and says the two words that they're both thinking. "Yu gonplei ste odon." Your fight is over.
But before the drop can fall Clarke sticks her hand out. "Wait! Yu gonplei ste odon...its what they say before death. He's not trying to heal him, he's trying to kill him."
Octavia turns to Nyko then Enyo. "Is it true? Were you just gonna let him kill him?!?"
Enyo looks at her gravely. "Ive lived down here longer than you Tavia. I know and accept what this means. Doesn't mean i like it."
"Death is the only way." Nyko agrees.
Clarke shakes her head. "Hold on there could be a way to bring him back."
"None that ive ever seen." Nyko corrects her giving her the same hard stare that held honesty as the one he'd just given Octavia.
The hatch opened up again and Enyo rolled her eyes once she saw it was Finn, knowing Nykos reaction. She watched on as the chaos ensued, having no intention of stopping it. She knew Finn would die sooner or later even if Nyko didnt strangle him to death. Bellamy argued with Octavia and Octavia argued with Nyko until Clarke shock lashed Nyko into letting Finn go.
"Lincoln." Octavia pulled all of their attention back to him as she checked to see if he was still breathing.
"His hearts stopped. Move." Clarke ordered and started the compressions.
Nyko and Enyo frowned, confused as to what she was doing, they'd never seen someone do that before.
A gasp of breath shocked the life out of them as they watched their dead friend breathe again.
Enyo kneeled next to Lincolns head as if checking that what she was seeing was real.
"He was dead. How did you do that?" Nyko asked from his place on the floor.
Clarke thought to herself for a moment. "Youve tried bringing reapers back before?"
Nyko nodded. "And they died like this?" She asked again this time to Enyo who nodded too.
Bellamy noticed the change in her mood."what is it?"
"I know how to stop the attack. Enyo will you come with me?" Clarke asked the still stunned girl. And Clarke knew if she'd gotten the pessimistic girl to believe that they could save him then the commander wouldnt be a problem.
Bellamy stepped in front of the girl's as they moved towards the hatch. "Whoa hang on. If Enyo goes to the commander she'll be killed."
Clarke shook her head. "Bellamy, Enyo is the key to this alliance. She can tell the commander herself of how we got a reaper to live past their normal stage of death."
"She wont live long enough to tell her. As soon as they see her she's dead." Bellamy argues sternly.
Enyo, who up until this point was still in a daze of disbelief, spoke up. "Clarke's right Bellamy. Maybe they kill me but the commander will want to speak to me before she has me killed. If we can get her to listen then we can save not just Lincoln but our people in mount weather. Maybe even score an alliance that lasts."
Bellamy's jaw ticked and they knew they had him. Clarke went down the hatch followed by Finn and Enyo looked back up at Bellamy.
"You doubting me?" She used their inside joke as a possible goodbye.
His lips didnt twitch but his eyes held a hint of amusement. "Never." Even if he was worried that this is the last time he'd see her. She reached up on her tiptoes and kissed his cheek like she had on unity day.
Not turning to look back at him as she descended down the ladder.
But he couldn't hide the blush that crept up his neck from his sister. She raised her eyebrows at him knowingly, "guess im not the only grounder pounder."
He glared at her but his blush spread. "Shut up, O."
...............
Clarke runs up to her mom as they enter the gatesof Camp Jaha, Enyo and Finn following her. As Clarke explains her theory of an alliance Enyo realises that she's standing next to Jaha, the ex chancellor she may or may not have threatened if any harm came to Bellamy.
Abby turns her attention to Enyo when her daughter is done. "Would it work?"
Enyo feels slightly honoured to have her friend's mother's trust. But then she looked over her shoulder and beyond the gates to the multiplying lanterns.
"Hmmm try for an alliance or die a gruesome death. Dont know about you but I pick the former." Enyo murmured, ready to face her people.
.....................
Enyo and Clarke made their way across the field to where the grounders had set up camp, immediately being surrounded by them the closer they got. Upon seeing Enyo their were some murmurs of insults and more grounders ended up following them closely, knowing her reputation.
None of them made a move to grab at her seeing as though they were heading straight for the commanders tent.
Once outside of it a big brute of a man, all stoic and intimidating stood over them. "If either of you so much as look at her the wrong way i will slit your throats."
Enyo rolled her eyes as he walked away, knowing that she shouldn't retort if she wanted to keep breathing. Nice to see you too Gustus.
Clarke followed her in to the tent, taking in the fearsome sight of a woman in war paint sat upon her throne. Enyo watched as Lexa took in the sight of her and then looked Clarke up and down.
"Your the one who burned three hundred of my warriors alive." Lexa greeted to clarke. Playing with her knife to show her strength and power she held over them.
"Your the one that sent them there to kill us." Clarke greeted back knowing she had to show her won strength upon first impressions.
Lexa stabbed her knife into the arm of her throne, her eyes finally meeting Enyo's but choosing to ignore her presence as her and Clarke danced around eachother.
"Ive done it with Lincoln." Clarke continued, trying to persuade her case.
Indra drew closer to Clarke. "That traitor is the reason my village was slaughtered by your people."
Enyo growled at her, pulling Clarke back so she could step between them. "Lincoln didnt have anything to do with that. Just because your heart doesnt know love doesn't mean his shouldnt." She snarked knwoing where to strike.
Indra moved to step forward with her knife but moved away when Lexa ordered her.
Lexa stepped up to her. "You've seen it." Finally addressing Enyo.
Enyo nodded, tipping her chin in the air in defiance.
"Prove it. Show me Lincoln. If your lying Enyo and her brother will be the first to die." She threatened to Clarke, who hoped that her mother has saved him.
"Oooof course. Why is it always us?" Enyo mumbles as she leads the way out of the tent.
............
Enyo climbs up the ladders first after the aukward walk through the camp where Lexa saw the burnt bodies of her people. She shoved the hatch oen but was greeted by the sound of Octavia's sobbs. She knew what that meant as her heart sunk, taking in Lincolns motionless form. She raises her eyes to Bellamy, who looks relieved to see her until he sees the worry in her eyes. Shaking her head at him she turns to see Lexa and Indra followed by two other grounders taking in the scene before them.
Clarke eyes Bellamy's gun and he slowly reaches for it as everyone eyes their own weapons for protection.
"I'll kill them all." Indra threatens as everyone draws their weapons. Enyo draws her sword and holds it up to Lexa who does the same with one of her swords.
"Looks like your fight is over Enyou." Lexa says and Enyo's upper lip curls with her growl.
"My fights only over when im no longer breathing." She threatens back, knowing she can take this many at once without skaikrus help.
"Please, You dont need to kill her." Clarke begs the commander showing her vulnerability.
"Dont you dare beg Clarke." Enyo snaps at her, eyes still on the commander.
"You lied," Lexa replies coldly, "and your out of time." Her eyes back on Enyo now.
Everyone knows what's coming, someone will make the first move at Enyo and people will die. So before anyone can, Abby turns and shocks Lincoln with the shock lash. His body convulses to it so Clarke orders for her to do it again.
Lincoln breathes out and Octavia crawls closer to him. He's no longer looking around with the animalistic look in his eyes.
"Lincoln?" Octavia asks slowly, hopeful.
He looks back at her the way he use to. "Octavia?" He rasps back shocking everyone in the room.
The grounders lower their weapons in their daze and Enyo sheathes her sword back in her belt, walking quickly to Lincoln and kneeling next to him as Octavia continues to touch his face.
"Linc?" Enyo whispers wanting to hear him talk again.
"Its me, En. Its me." He breathes, eyes closed but face tilted in her direction.
She breathes out a sigh of relief but contains her tears of joy. "Good cause im going to make your life miserable now. I made a promise to Tavia."
He sighs out what resembles a laugh and smiles, looking exhausted but alive.
As Clarke talks to the commander, Enyo moves to Bellamy's side, watching Octavia kiss Lincolns face in her relief.
"He thinks i wont just because i care." She says to him and he sees the held back tears.
Pulling her into his chest again, she hides her face in his chest so she can let them fall. "Lucky bastard." She mumbles but Bellamy can hear her smile. He presses his lips to her hair faintly, enjoying the moment of pure relief as the event of the day sink in.
"He will be until Enyo Woods gives him hell." He mumbes to her, his smile growing when he feels her smile against his chest.
They both realise that this is the third time he's held her close and that this is the longest by far, especially with how public they are. They both pull away shyly and Bellamy clears his throat. She wipes her cheeks and looks up at him. "Damn right."
Lexa watches them from the corner of her eye, evaluating them and everything they do. Wonders if given the choice between her brother and Bellamy, who would she choose?
Authors note: boom so that happened. Enyo has a choice to make in the next chapter, one that will change her ways of thinking and acting forever. But will she listen to those close to her? Or stick to the old ways? The next chapter might be up tomorrow or the day after because my writers block is slowly fading. Turns out i just needed one positive comment about my story to help me fight it. lexi_denglish
