Project: STITCH
G1 Time - 6:31 A.M.
Eva curled a loose strand of her wet, sticky hair behind her ear. Her fingers were getting numb from swinging a hammer and it bouncing back with a continued vibration after striking the metal surface of the oxygen canister. The heat, draining her of precious fluids, was also getting to her. Eventually, she just dropped what she was doing, and took a break, her hand going to her pocket.
Eva pulled out her Holo, cracks spider webbed and gashed into the screen. She awoke it from sleep, only to find her last reply still there and missing a response from her sister, Lumina. Lumina's Holo icon was dark, showing that she wouldn't be texting Eva back anytime soon.
Eva placed her phone back in its pocket, heaving a heavy, saddened, sigh.
"No reply?" Hank asked while still hammering away, sparks flying everywhere, at his side of the oxygen canister.
"No reply,' Eva confirmed.
"I hope nothing bad happened to our leader."
"I already have enough to worry about Hank. I don't need something extra piled onto my overflowing plate."
"Sorry." Hank continued to hammer. The sparks caught on Eva's skin.
Eva rubbed the little pain that she felt on her arm away. Then, she picked her hammer back up. The wooden handle was still warm, the metal tip still slightly aglow.
She began to pound at the black cylindrical surface again.
"Eva, you can rest," Hank said. "You've been doing this for quite a while, and I can see how tired you've become."
"But just a few more swings and we'll be ready to open up this overly pressurized canister so that we can get back home."
"You will enjoy the fruitage of your work better if you do not go overboard or are too tired to see the accomplishment."
Eva thought about that for a little while, and then, after making a decision, dropped her hammer onto the metal trailer bed.
"That's a good decision you're making Eva."
Eva gave Hank a look. Hank didn't add any further comments.
