Laneys Fears

Setting-1

Laney walked down the sidewalk of Peaceville. The first thing she noticed was she was in a dress and her hair was curled.

Great. She thought, though it wasn't that bad. The next thing she noticed was how eire the streets where. So, to pass the time she decided she would head over to Corey's garage.

After some time of walking, Laney reached Corey's house. The garage was open, but... it was quiet. Too quite.

She walked in and saw Corey sitting on the band couch with his guitar. "Hey Corey," she smiled walking in.

Corey looked up with a tired, sad, and even mad expression. "What do you want, Laney."
Laney was taken back by the roughness in his words, and the fact Kin and Kon where not there. Maybe practice hadn't started yet.

"I just wanted to wait in here for a while. Maybe hang out." Laney looked at him offering an nervous smile.

"Don't you remember what happened yesterday." Corey said not looking up from his guitar. "The band broke up."

Now Laney understood. This is why he looked so menacing. This was one of her fears. It had happened before and they got back together so maybe it wasn't so bad. "Oh..." she said looking down. "Must have forgotten...."

"Can..can you go? I don't feel like talking." Laney could've sworn she heard him sniffle.

"Okay." Laney walked out feeling pretty down. Then she heard what sounded like a bell that would ring every hour. Must mean the minutes up. She though and got warped to school.

Setting-2

Laney was warped to school in the middle of the hall. She started walking down, somehow holding books, still wearing a dress. Around her she could see people looking at her and whispering. She couldn't hear what they were talking about, but she was sure it was about her.

Laney was always afraid of being and outcast. She hated the thought of people being against her on what she liked, who she liked, or what she did. It always made her mad that people would do that, too.

As she walked she noticed Corey at his locker alone. He glanced at her then shoved his head in his locker, as if avoiding her. Laney walked over to see what was going on.

"Corey, why is everybody acting weir-"

"SShhh! We can't let anybody know your talking to me!" Corey whisper yelled at Laney, shocking her. Why would he act like this? What was going on?

"Corey what do you mean? We're friends. Why is everybody staring at us? What's going o-"

"Didn't you hear me?! Be quiet!"

"Why?!"

"Because people don't like you anymore!!" Corey screamed slamming his locker in Laney's face. Everybody stopped and turned at the commotion.

"W-What?" Tears swelled in Laney's eyes.

"We can't...be friends. Please, leave me alone." The bell of the school rang and Laney slowly disappeared, a single tear dining down her check. Suddenly she was home.

Setting-3

Laney was at dinner with her mother and father. Though after what just happened she didn't feel like eating.

"What's wrong honey?" Her mother asked sympathetically, a worried expression on her face. "You haven't even touched your food."

"Sorry Mom, I'm just not hungry."

Her Dad now turned. "You usually are hungry. What happened?" Her parents knew her well. Laney then explained what had happened just a few moments ago. Her parents didn't look worried after that. As if this was meant to happen.

"Never did like that Corey Ruffin." Her dad said.

WHAT! Laney screamed in her head. Her Dad always liked Corey. They had been friends forever. And her Mom like him too. WHAT IS GOING ON!?!

"Never much cared for him either." Her Mom took another bite of dinner. "He's a bad influence on you honey. You just need to ignore him."

This was all wrong. Corey is what strived her to do better. He was always nice, but lately. No. She couldn't give up on him like this. Just give it some time. Her parents didn't understand. No one did. With people shunning her at school, no Core, and Kin and Kon out of the picture, she had now one to talk to or get advice from.

She was all alone.

A ding was heard for the stove. "Desserts ready!" Her mom chimed and the area around Laney soon disappeared.

Setting-4

Laney was in her front yard. An angry mob waited in front of her. Corey included.

"Come on Laney! This whole towns against us! We have to go!" Her Dad yelled shoving bags in their car. Were they...runing away? Or moving?!

"Dad what's going on!"

"We got to go honey," her mom walked over. "I know it's gonna be hard to leave this town, but we're no longer accepted. We gotta go for now. We'll come back for stuff. But you have to get in the car."

Laney hesitated. This was all so much to take in.

Laney's Dad walked over looking annoyed and mad, but also a hint of sadnesses in his eyes. "I am not asking little girl. Get. In. The. Car."

"Dad I don't wanna go!"

"We have too!" He sternly looked at her, staging her to the car. Laney was pure crying now. Her mother was following them sadly. She got one more glance at the crowd, locking eyes with Corey. He snarled and looked away.

Laney got in the car. Hearing a church bell ring. All of a sudden everything was peaceful again.

Setting-5

Laney carefully landed on the sidewalk. It was just like the scenario had started out. Quiet. She was only a couple of feet away from Corey's garage. And she could've sworn she heard some one inside.

Laney walked up peeking into the opening of the garage. She saw Trina crying in the garage holding Corey's guitar, her parents consoling her. Okay. Now what's going on for real.

Laney, determined to figure out what was going on, lightly knocked and everyone became silent in the garage and turned to her. Trina started crying again her father rubbing her back.

"Mrs.Riffin? What happened?" Laney asked as quiet and innocent as she could sound. Honestly all these events a scenery where....unsettling.

"Ah Laney. Come, sit down." Laney sat down on a crate with a vision as she often had before.

"Laney, you've been gone for a couple of years," No she hadn't. She had just left two second ago. But now that she took notice, Trina seemed to be in college. Corey's Mom continued.

"Since Corey got his license a couple of months ago, he went out for some good with a group of friends. On his way home.....he...he never made it home." Corey's Mom's eyes swelled. "Corey died in a car crash against a drink driver." Corey's Mom sank to one knee. Trina sobbed harder at the mention of her brothers nam and death. Laney didn't blame her.

Laney was taken by shock. Her eyes immediately filled with tears they came streaming down her face. Corey. Dead. No. This didn't compute.

Laney hugged Corey's Mom and it helped them both. She couldn't believe what was happening. How could this happen? And it wasn't even his fault? Did Kin and Kon know? Why wasn't she here?
Suddenly bells rang again, and the land around her disappeared. The garage forming around her with everybody she knew there. Even Corey.

Her face was still wet with tears. Everybody took notice.

"Laney what happened?" Corey asked concerned jumping in front of her.
