Grant was a man Grismore had met in the mid 1500's, they had become friends and Grismore had even helped him get the woman he loved out of an abusive relationship. The wedding between Grant and Sophia was small but beautiful. He had a daughter named Ainsley and Grismore found he was the Godfather. Fate deemed it had another plan for the child had been taken from her parents and Sophia was killed in a house fire. Both incidents had been more than just connected. They were planned specifically to hurt Grant, and they had worked. Grismore had sired Grant soon after to give him a fighting chance at relocating his daughter or exacting revenge on those who took his family from him. It had taken centuries but Grant had found his Daughter among the undead when they came to the Dead City. Grant had all but given up on finding Ainsley assuming she had grown up and lived her life, or been killed not long after her abduction. They had been on a hunt for a relic when they entered the City and after forming a few places to relax, Grant had located her.

Finding his way back to France Grismore made sure to avoid any places he had been known to frequent. In doing so, he had found himself involved in the middle of a dispute. A man named Grant Carrington and a woman by the name of Sophia Benard had become quite close. So close in fact that they had wanted to get married. Her father did not approve of Grant or his daughters choice in suitors wishing her to marry another man with more power and social standing.

After he had grown close to the couple Grismore learned that Sophia was in an abusive relationship with the very suitor that wanted to marry her. Her father refused to listen to reason and get her out of the relationship even when she appeared with bruises on her body and face. Helping Sophia and Grant get married, he smuggled them out of the town they had been living in and got them a home further south. In the country side. Their wedding was small but beautiful, they lived happily for about a year when they welcomed a daughter into their world. Her name was Ainsley, and she had become an important part of all of their lives. Grismore had become her god-father and for a while life was good.

Fate however, had other plans. Grismore had business to do a few towns over and Grant had been out working leaving Sophia and Ainsley alone at home, when Grant came home he had found his beautiful wife dead in a house fire, and his daughter gone. Taken from her home prior to the fire that claimed the life of Sophia. Growing angry Grismore could only see one sure way Grant could live to find out exactly what had happened to his daughter and who took her. Knowing life spans of people in the 1500's wasn't a very long one he offered the only thing he could. Knowing Grant would never settle for Grismore to go hunting the men, he offered to turn Grant into the very being he was.

It was excepted and explained in detail before the turning had happened. And from the moment Grant reawakened into his new life, Grismore traveled with him for five years. Making sure that Grant learned to control his powers in a way Grismore never could. Was never taught to do. Those five years both men grew closer, Grismore learned to see Grant as more of a brother than a friend or Childe. After both men were sure Grant could control his powers without risking a breech. So they parted ways Agreeing to keep in touch. Grant had decided to go about hunting for his daughter alone, while Grismore went about his own way.
