Dark and light
Going back to his hut he met Gottschall once more where they spoke of what he had done and even feeding habits of an Elemental Vampire. Learning he could not only feed off of the elements around them but also people Grismore seemed intrigued. Going on a hunt with Gottschall when he hunted humans. It was explained that even though they could survive off of humans it was not ideal, and it was only suggested to use them as a means of healing only.
When the two males parted ways, Grismore began his travels around Europe. During this he fell victim to his cold heart and hatred. Seeing most humans as a plague on the earth. Hearing the cried of the elements around them. For the next one hundred years he traveled around Europe, Russia and most of Asia killing anyone he deemed guilty of a crime or of harming the land. Sometimes taking the lives of an innocent person. On these occasions he would rationalize his misdeed as something that would be deserved if it wasn't already. He had grown cold and distant missing very important clues that he himself was being hunted, hunted by more than one person. Some being hunted him with the intention of recruiting him, others to kill him. When ever he encountered one or the other, a fight would ensue and Grismore always came out the victor. He wasn't interested in joining others, nor did he wish to die when there was so much dark still in the world. Not once did he ever thing he was apart of this darkness. The blood on his hands never seemed to stop him even when his slaughtered children, women who were expecting.
In the year 1290 a man by the name of Brian O'Connell approached Grismore and gave him an ultimatum. Straighten out and stop mass killing or die. Grismore, having never lost a fight simply laughed and made a deal with the man. They would spar and if Grismore won he would be on his way to never be bothered by Brian. If Brian won Grismore would do as asked. This agreement came around mainly because Grismore had grown bored of doing what he had been doing for over a hundred years. Once the terms were agreed to they made their way into a clearing that was hidden in the center of a forest. When dark fell they met in the center and began the spar.
Circling around each other a few times they tried to feel out the others first move before making their own. On noticing Grismore wouldn't move first, Brian did. Stepping in and lunging at Grismore only to back up again on Grismore's retaliation. Grismore, however, feeling the other mans breathing alter slightly moved differently that one would intend and managed to get a blow to the man's stomach in. Brian, having anticipated the movement was already mid retaliation gripping onto Grismore's hair and flipping him onto the ground leaving a large crater where his body had made impact. Getting close to Grismore he growled low.
"I am a hunter of my own kind, you really think it would be easy to defeat me?" He asked his thick Irish accent slipping through as he backed up. Sitting up Grismore looked at the other man curiously.
"You are not human?"
"Vampire, I have made it my life's work to hunt down any non human being that causes trouble with the balance." He explained still at the ready for another attack. Shaking his head Grismore stood up and held up his hands in surrender. He had found something worth listening to. Something new worth learning about.
"Tell me how you chose this life over something...darker?" Grismore asked dropping his arms indicating he had forfeit the spar.
"This can be arranged, not here and only if you tell me your story." When both agreed they found themselves a pub with a large crowd. Grismore looked a bit confused at first but Brian merely smiled. "It is far safer to discuss things among a crowed then it is somewhere quiet where anyone could over hear." Nodding in agreement Grismore and Brian made their way to a table int he back of the loud pub. The noise was no matter to the two men as they could hear far better than the humans who had crowded the place. It was in the pub that Grismore learned Brian had not only taken down his Sire for terrorizing Ireland, but also turned to the job hunting down others like his sire. He also explained about humans, there were the good ones, the bad ones and the ones who fall between the two. It was this way in every race and species, it was their job to keep a balance. The balance of good and evil, the balance of humans and non humans. Anyone could go out and kill who they deemed guilty of a crime, but it takes a special sort of person to do what Brian did. Dedicate his life to finding the truth despite the odds against them, and to take a life despite any relationship to the person.
The more they talked between them the more Grismore had let go of the anger in his heart, anger that had turned to numbness. Letting it go without realizing it left him more open to explaining what had put him on his path. He explained about Annika's death and the blame falling to him. He explained about Gottschall offering to turn him, to give him power to take the man down, then about how he at first refused until the death of his mother, the last surviving family member to the Grismore line. At that point he had slipped into a dark place and taken Gottschall up on his offer so he could take down the murderer of Annika. He told Brian about how he hadn't intended to stay in such a dark place but once he had fallen into it he couldn't find anything worth getting out for, and for a while he believed what he was doing was a good thing. Eradicating the bad, that was until he started killing children. At that point he was just so numb to everything, he didn't care.
Being offered a chance to become a hunter as Brian was Grismore shook his head. He had done enough killing in the past one hundred years and didn't think giving him more power to kill others would be a good idea. Grismore thought he would take some time to return to his roots, this intrigued Brian. Having Grismore explain what he considered to be his roots he grew a bit excited.
"I know a man, he is not human but not vampire. He is a tailor, I know it is not your roots per-say. But I think you would be good learning a new trade, give you something new to focus on. Something similar yes, but new. He could also use a friend to watch over him." Brian explained and slipped him a piece of parchment paper. "Go here, ask for Jeeves and hand him the paper. He will know what to do. I see potential in you, one that would be a shame to wast by killing you. You started this life in anger, fueled by revenge and just in this short time I can tell you are sincere in wanting to change. This is your one and only chance to prove to me you will change your ways. I will be watching you." He stated and stood to make his leave. Grismore did the same looking at the parchment as he left. Making his way out of the small village and into a larger city he soon located the man named Jeeves and handed him the parchment.
