The Job Offer
A/N: This is the part of the story that corresponds with the canon tale of the original comic.
"Humph, this had better be worth it." The angered voice of a tall man with burning red skin, a gotie, an Afro, open vest, jeans, some bling that said "HIM", shades, and lobster claw hands.
Alongside HIM was a small girl with red skin, hair curled up into horns, a red Christmas cloak, red boots, a metal pendant on her forehead, and lobster claw hands.
"Now Mimi, stay out of this when I make the deal, is that clear?" HIM ordered the girl, who just nodded.
They were both walking towards a rundown bar in the middle of a double rocky formation that stretched up to the sky. HIM and Mimi had just stepped out of an expensive looking limo and HIM had a metal briefcase over his shoulder. Their plan was to find someone special to further their, mostly his, plan that shall be explained later.
CREEEEK~!!
The rusty hinges of the door squeaked loudly as HIM pushed the door opened, showing some light in the dark place. It was full of strange and otherworldly creatures of different shapes and sizes all with drinks in their hands or fighting. At the sight of the devilish man, a few more cowardly ones chose to leave or stay out of sight for their own safety. The stronger and braver ones put on a brave face if the lobster chooses to speak with them, hoping he won't.
"Greetings you walking piles of filth!" HIM shouted loudly with his arms wide and a grin splitting his face.
Some of the creatures were angered by that, but stayed quiet, "Now then, I'm here for a special reason! My sources say that here lies some of the best hired killers and criminals of the 9 realms, I'm looking for the best of you low lives!" HIM said happily.
Each demon or whatever looked at each other, worried since his accusation was spot on, they were the most dangerous creatures. Problem was, HIM's reputation outranks theirs with overall cruelty and sheer number of known kills. The last thing they'd want is to work for him on a job that'll certainly either get them killed or imprisoned for the rest of eternity.
So, whatever HIM has to offer, it can't be worth what they may loose in the end, or if he'll stick to the deal.
"Common!! Isn't there anyone here ballsy enough to take the offer?!" HIM yelled to the crowd, only getting silence. HIM shook his head while Mimi played with a small voodoo doll that looks a lot like Adolf Hitler.
"Ahem."
HIM and Mimi turned to the bartender, the soul of President George Washington, had called their attention.
"Listen, this job, what is it exactly?" The president asked, HIM grinning as he took a seat with Mimi next to him.
"Now that's what I'd like to hear, now then, this job is a simple robbery!" HIM said, quietly, confusing the soul.
"That's it?" George asked, only getting a devilish grin from HIM.
"The target, is Castle Grim~"
GASP!
Everyone in the bar gasped in fear at the name, many even running out of the place as fast as they could.
It was well known throughout the entirety of the 9 realms of the underworld that Castle Grim, especially those who live in it, are NOT to be messed with. HIM just grumbled seeing the people be so weak, wondering if he'll actually find someone who's brave enough to do it. The soul had a somewhat shocked look, but shook it off, intriguing the devil on why he looked so calm.
"Well, I don't know about the certainty of that, but there is one guy..." George said, lifting the spirited of the devil.
"FANTASTIC! Where is he!?" HIM asked eagerly, the soul taking a quick look around the almost empty bar.
Seeing that it's clear, George took a napkin and wrote down a few words before sliding it to the devil. HIM read the words quickly, "Just go to that place and he should be there, be warned though, you aren't one of his favorite people." George warned.
Now HIM was interested, "This should be fun~!" HIM said with a grin as, with Mimi, stood up and left the building.
Later:
"Hmm, not too bad." HIM said with a low hum as he rubbed his chin with the tip of his claws.
Before the red skinned devil and his daughter was a tall, run down, and multi-story mansion. It was within the middle of the woods, dark, moldy, with the area feeling just dead. In front of it was even a few random gravestones, being old enough that the names on them had rubbed off.
"Would make a nice summer home for the holidays." HIM said cheerily from the sight as they walked over.
Making their way to the steps, hearing it creak under their feet until they reached the front door.
knock knock knock~!!
"Helllllloooooo, anyone home~?" HIM asked as he knocked eagerly.
R-R-R-RUMBLE~!!!!!
"WHOOO ISSSS IIIIITTTTT!?!?!?!?"
They heard a loud yell which didn't seem to come from anyone nearby, but from the house itself.
"My, a possessed home, has been a while since I've seen this." HIM said with a grin as Mimi nodded slightly.
"We're here right speak to whoever owns your rickety ass!" He shouted at the house, hearing it grumble slightly.
Click~!
Until the door clicked open, making HIM grin as he pushed it open with Mimi following behind. Inside, it was severely unlit, not much to see out, which was more difficult for HIM given his sunglasses.
"Ugh, who lives here, another pesky vampire?" HIM asked in annoyance before making it to the main room, having the only noticeable light source.
"Oooooooh~!!!" He said with a pleased tone as Mimi had wide, beaming eyes for what was there before them.
Aside from a beautiful fireplace in the center of the room with a few crinkling sounds. Around it aside from a few chairs and a small coffee table in the middle, the eye catcher was the choice of decoration. All over the walls, and a few on the fireplace itself, were mounted heads of all shapes and sizes. Creatures both native to Earth or from the other realms littered the walls with looks of shock and awe.
"Such a nice collection." HIM said while testing the tips of a dragon's fangs, which left a decent scratch on it.
Mimi hummed while sticking her head inside the mouth of a T-Rex head, even seeing some of it's insides further down the throat.
"How's it look Mimi?" He asked while making his way over to her and see it.
"Like her head shouldn't be inside it."
A voice spoke up, making them turn to see a figure emerge from the darkness.
Walking up was a tall being, easily as tall as HIM himself, including the afro, not including his outfit. He wore a loose fitting grey hoodie, unzipped with white outlines, his face covered in darkness. A black undershirt, dark grey jeans, white shoes, his hands in his pockets, and a set of dark red eyes peering from the hood.
Gleam~!!
And what seemed to be a scythe resting on his back as he walked in.
"Ah yes, she was curious and wished to see inside i-"
"Why are you in my house?"
His sudden question made the devil man freeze before glaring at the man, who glared back.
"It's not nice to interrupt someone when they're speaking." HIM said while straightening his glasses.
"Neither is entering a person's home without announcing themselves." The man shot back while walking past him to one of the chairs.
"Fair enough, anyway, are you the owner of this house?" HIM asked as he raced over to the opposite chair of the man, who sat with a slump look.
"Yes, now back to my previous question, why are you here?" The man asked as he grabbed one of his glasses.
"Why I'm here to hire you for a certain jobs have coming up, thought I will say, you have a lovely home." HIM complimented as he looked around the many mounted heads.
"What's the job?" He asked while taking a sip of his drink.
"May I have one?" HIM asked as he reached over to grab the other glass.
TINK!!
Till he retracted his claw when a knife nearly stuck it, trailing the blade back up to the owner, being the house owner himself, who glared hotly at the demon.
"What's. The JOB?" He asked darkly before pulling out his knife, the father and daughter sharing a look.
"All business, I like you." HIM said with a grin as he pulled out a paper and handed it to the man.
"I need someone to get a certain object for me, now I would normally send my own agent, Mimi here, but this is a little above her pay grade." HIM began while gesturing to the little girl, the man giving him a plain look as he unrolled the paper.
"The object is-
"Horror's Hand."
The man spoke up as he unrolled the paper, which was an old drawing of an oversized glove. It was made of a sturdy metal and a large purple eye in the center of it's palm as it glowed with energy. While on the side it explained the overall powers and abilities of the glove, it didn't say it's name.
"Oh, so you're familiar with this object~?" HIM asked with a grin, believing he's got a hook.
"Yes." The man said while looking up at the smiling demon, liking that he doesn't need to explain it.
...But then lost his smile as the man didn't break his gaze, his hands crumbling the paper into a small ball. With that done, he casually tossed it into the nearby fire, the 2 watching as he did, the paper turning to ashes instantly. Looking back to the man, they saw him cross his legs and his hand grip his drink, taking a small sip.
"It's worthless." He said simply as the afro'ed demon rose a confused, yet angry, brow at him.
"Worthless!? It's the most powerful object in all of Hell or any other realm!!" HIM defended as the man's posture and gaze didn't change.
"Do I look like I'm suppose to be impressed?" He asked while pointing to his hooded face, getting a grumble from the man.
Mimi tilted her head as she tried to get a better look inside the hood, but could only see the man's eyes giving her father a casual look. Though when he turned it to her, she momentarily froze and felt like she saw his gaze soften at her.
"Kinda hard to see with your hood." HIM said as the man nodded before standing up.
"That's the point, now then, if this is all, leave my home." The man said as he was slowly walking out the room, HIM sighing in annoyance.
"Great, now who else am I gonna take this Castle Grim job?" HIM asked with a frustrated tone.
Creeeeeeaaaaaaakkkk~!!!
HIM rose a brow as he heard the man freeze mid-step, his boot creaking against the old floor boards. The man stood stone stiff, the guests even unable to hear him breath he was that silent. Ever so slowly, the man turned his head, his eye staring right through the man in his chair.
"Where... did you say?" He asked lowly and darkly as HIM grinned sharply.
"Why Castle Grim my dear boy, judging from that tone, sounds like someone has a score to settle~!" HIM said as he stood up and beside the hooded man, his good hand over the man's shoulders.
"They owe me for what they did to me..." He said darkly with his gloved hands clenching tightly.
"Oooh, drama~!! Tell you what, you get that "worthless glove" for me, you can do whatever that sick, twisted heart desires to whoever is inside it." HIM promised to the man, poking his chest slightly.
The man said nothing as he turned to the man, his gaze still partially hidden under the hood. Even with it, HIM could still see deep, suppressed anger at him, which made the demon grin wider.
SHING~!!!
But back-peddled slightly when he saw the man hold up his scythe, which showed HIM's reflection as it was held in front of the hidden man's face.
"Like you got yourself a deal..."
