Chapter 7: Stress

I walked out the door and sighed. God, I wonder if life would be easier without Mary.

It probably would be heaven if not for her.

I was picking up pastries for my mother. She was kicking me and my sister out of the house so that her and her friend could hang out and have fun. As usual, she dumped all of her duties on me, so that she didn't have to worry herself with her those duties.

As I arrived, I walked up to the new pastry store. It was run by a monster named Muffet. It had good reviews on it, and since they were a new company, they were on a big sale to lure in customers.

So, my mother had decided to send me off there. I picked out the pastries my mother had listed me to get, and brought them over to the counter. "Will that be all, hun~?" Muffet asked, a slight giggle escaping her lips. "Ah, yes, that's all." I said and smiled softly.

Muffet was quite cute, actually. Usually in her posters her hair is in pig tails and dressed with purple bows, but today her hair was let down, and a purple bow clip was in her hair keeping her bangs up and in place.

As she calculated the numbers, she began to examine my face. "Ah, I think I've seen you before. Would you happen to be (Y/N)?" Muffet asked me softly. "Oh, yes I am. How did you know?" I asked.

She seemed a bit happy and sad at the fact that I had confirmed my name being what it was. Her lips twisted down into a slight frown. Muffet looked away and shook her head.

"A-ah, it's probably none of my business, but I heard some kids talking about you...." Muffet admitted and looked at her feet.

This caught my attention and I perked my head up in surprise. "What'd they say?" I asked eagerly. "They were saying how foolish you were...saying that Grillby wouldn't choose you over Mary...how Grillby might be cheating on you...?" Muffet said, doubting herself.

She shook her head and looked away. "I'm sorry, you've probably never even heard of these people." Muffet said and handed me the bag full of pastries. I was...confused. Grillby would never chose me over Mary? I mean, Mary is really pretty, but....Grillby likes me for me!

Right?

"No no, I have! A lot, in fact. This information helped a lot. Thank you!Have a nice day." I said and forced a smile, grabbing the bag and walking away. "You too!" Muffet said and smiled gently, waving at me as I walked away.

I felt uneasy. My head was dizzy, and my body was overpowered by a feeling I've never felt before. I stumbled a bit as I walked, and I felt myself drawing attention. I didn't want them staring....I wanted everyone to go away....

I ran towards my house. I didn't know why I was so overpowered by what I had heard. I tried to calm down, but I couldn't. As I ran, I saw a few kids block my path. I came to a stop and felt fear rush over me as they walked past me.

"She made Mary upset, right?" One of the kids said. His words were cold and harsh. "Yes, shes the one who stole away her love." The other kid said, with a chuckle.

I stood still as I watched them walk past me. As they did, one kid whispered, "Well, she only stole away her love temporarily. What a fool. Grillby would never chose her over Mary. It's only a matter of time till he sees his mistake."

Those words shot through my heart like a dagger. I stumbled back a bit and closed my eyes in pain. I could feel my body get heavy, and I suddenly felt my phone buzz in my pocket.

"What now...?" I asked myself, and saw the caller. Grillby. I answered and held the phone up to my ear. "Hey, I was just checking up. How's my princess?" He asked sweetly. Hearing his voice lifted a weight of stress off my back, and I could already feel my breathing become more calm.

"Grillby....why do you love me?" I asked slowly.

"Are you alright? You sound really upset." Grillby asked worriedly. "...please, just answer me." I pleaded weakly and took a seat on a nearby bench.

"Well, I love you because your you. When you spoke up for yourself like that, it showed your true colors. Your smile lightens my day, your words are sweet as candy, and I've learned your an expert at cuddling. Your very cute, and when you blush your even cuter. Your very kind when you want to be, and in a way, funny."

Grillby went on and on, and I smiled more and more at each compliment he paid me. He was so nice....I could feel my heart warm at his reassurance. "The list goes on. Would you care to tell me why your upset now?" He asked softly. "I'm just...scared that you will leave me..."

"I'd rather be dead than leave your side. If your worried about Mary, then please don't worry yourself with her. I love you, okay? I don't love her the way I love you."

His words were so reassuring, I couldn't help but believe them. "Thank you...I love you too. Your the sweetest." I said happily and giggled. I was smiling like a dork by now.

(TIME SKIP)

My mother wasn't happy that I was late on the pastry delivery. But hey, we all make mistakes. It's in the past. I brushed off the angry glare she gave me and called Alphys to see if I could hang out.

"Alphys, hey! My mom is kicking me out of the house...maybe we can hang out?" I asked, my voice full of hope. "O-oh! (Y/N)!" Alphys chirped happily.

"I'm glad you called. That sounds fun! U-Undyne can't join us though...she went out with Papyrus today to go to the gym." Alphys explained.

"Well, it can just be the two of us. I'd love to get to know you more." I said and smiled to myself. "Sounds fun! C-can you meet up at my house? The address is (insert random address)." I wrote down the address before I could forget it.

"Alright, sounds good! I'll be over in a minute." I said and began to walk over towards my destination. Alphys lived fairly close to Undyne, and Undyne didn't live that far away. I took the time to admire the scenery, but also to think.

Why was everyone suddenly talking about how I had "stolen" Grillby away from Mary? Did the word get out? Did Mary tell everyone? It sounds like something Mary would tell all her friends about. And Mary has tons of friends.

But, what if Mary didn't tell anyone? How would the word have gotten out? I don't think many people knew about me and Grillby dating.

The only people that knew were Mary, Undyne, Sans, and Alphys....

I knocked on the door and Alphys greeted me with a friendly smile. She welcomed me inside and I got a good view of her house. It looked really nerdy. It had a nice home feeling to it, but it's hard to feel at home when there is anime posters and figured scattered about the living room.

In a way, it was cute and funny. I didn't say anything about since I didn't want to offend Alphys's decoration choice.

Alphys showed me to her room and it was even more anime filled then I could imagine. It was pretty messy as well. There were empty noodle containers lying about and and tiny refrigerator in her room.

Her closet had a mirror on it, and her shelf was dedicated to anime figures. I could barely see the white and yellow design on her walls with all the posters covering it. The desk had a large stack of papers on it, but there were some photographers of her with the other monsters lying about too.

Her bed looked quite cozy though, so I jumped onto it, making sure to leave some room to Alphys could lay next to me. She laughed and jumped in right next to me.

"So, Alphys...did you ever tell anyone about me and Grillby dating? Random question, but it seems like everyone knows now...." I said suddenly and instantly regret it. I hated to accuse her, but I just had to get that question off my chest.

"T-tell anyone?" Alphys asked, a bit confused by my question. She put a finger to her mouth and gasped softly.

"You know, I think I did tell one person... B-but she's an old friend, she wouldn't tell anyone! Her name is Toriel. She's actually a teacher now." Alphys admitted. I sighed knowing a teacher would have no reason to spread rumors.

Alphys seemed to notice how upset I was at this news, cause she brought up one tiny detail.

"I-I'll be honest, though...Undyne did tell someone...." Alphys confessed and looked away. I looked up at her, eager to see what'd she say.

"Some people were talking about how cute Grillby w-was, and being the great friend she was, she told them off and said to lay off, saying how you two were dating."

"And then?" I asked, not letting it end there. "What happened after she said that?" Alphys went silent.

I sat up and looked at her dead serious. Alphys adjusted her glasses and sighed. "They asked who was dating him, and Undyne said you were, s-so they began to laugh....she got so mad, but I stopped her from fighting them....I'm pretty sure they're the ones w-who told everyone."

I sighed and looked down at the bed. "..a..are you mad at h-her?" Alphys asked worriedly. It all honesty, I wasn't. Not even the slightest. If anything, I was happy she was such a faithful friend who would tell off strangers just to defend me.

"No. Not at all! I'm glad she stood up for me." I said with a smile. "But knowing people will be laughing and teasing me will annoy me a bit...but I won't blame her for that."

Alphys smiled and beamed at my positive response. "I-I'm so glad! I was worried that you would be mad at Undyne because I told you..." Alphys said. To lighten the mood, I stood off the bed and grabbed Alphys hand. I proceeded to pull her off towards the living room.

"Let's go watch a movie!"

So that was that.

We both snuggled up and watched a movie. But instead of popcorn, Alphys handed out marshmallows. They were tiny and fluffy, and put into a bowl. There was also melted chocolate used as dip, all set up super cutely by Alphys.

Then she passed out pink blankets with white polka dots. It was all super cute, or as Alphys called it, super 'kawaii'.

After we played around a bit, I headed home. My mother got into an argument with her friend, and she wasn't in the mood to let us wander around. As usual.

So I walked home, but on my way there, I was surprise by a text message. "It's 11:30 at night...who could be texting me?" I mumbled to myself, pulling out my phone and checking it.

It read: "Are you upset?"

It was from Mary.

I had almost forgotten about her since I had been enjoying life so much. Probably because she wasn't in it.
I was confused on the question. "Uhh...no? Why would I be?"
"I thought you took the breakup hard." She texted back.
"Grillby didn't break up with me?"
"After that kiss we shared, I was sure he would :)"
